Hi guys, I've googled & looked around various threads on here but cannot find a good match to my query so apologies if it has already been asked before!
Anyway, I have just upgraded to the Xperia Z3 from the original Z, I want to now back up and transfer everything over to the Z3 but not sure what is the best/easiest way to do this? I am not sure about Xperia Transfer app as that doesn't support transferring apps over unless it is an iphone, backup & restore from pc companion I am also confused on as I am not sure if that means you restore & backup on the SAME phone??
So what is the correct way? Many thanks for any help!
Lots of views but nobody has even a clue?

Download Helium from play store and on to a PC and follow the instructions. It should be able to backup most app's data ready to restore on to the z3.
Inevitably some apps will fail to backup but unless your Z is rooted I believe Helium is your best shot.
You can alternatively connect to the PC suite and transfer data. PC suite has a built in data transfer tool.
Thanks both for the advice, I used Xperia Transfer Desktop app in the end as the non desktop 1 wouldn't work and always got stuck on step 5! I am impressed that everything including my device calendar got sent over too which was another main thing I wanted! Now all that's left to transfer are apps - I remembered doing it somewhere where everything including data were moved but can't remember how. So may give helium a go as my original Z is rooted.
If you're rooted, best option is titanium backup (Z3 has to be rooted for that too)
Be careful restoring system apps though, because the system apps of the Z probably won't work correctly on the Z3

What!"!!
You have root... use TB to backup, then put the sd card in the new phone restore it on the new phone....
Or if you do not have a sd card, take a backup, move the backup folder to your PC, then to the internal storage of your new phone and restore it
I can help, quite easy
Make sure your backup folder from xperia z is (copied to) on your SD card (for ease of use)
Place SD card with backup in xperia Z3
Open titanium backup, go to menu>settings>location backup folder.
Now all you have to do is click scan and choose to scan everywhere. Once found click on the folder and click "use current folder"
Now restart titanium backup and your backups are found and restorable

Lol I never had to use titanium in the past because I somehow managed to move stuff like saved game data across with no problem - I just wish I could remember how I did it?!
Only ever used root to change fonts & now I can't even do that as the app I used doesn't work on Z3

Thank you for the guide
But have to admit I am still confused. I basically want to backup saved game data mostly, so how would I go about doing this? I have no idea where the saved games data would be so that's why I'm struggling to locate the correct files to do this
Do appreciate the help though!
If you restore from titanium backup you have the choice to restore only data or data and the app. You don't have to know where to find the files, if you have the list on titanium you can restore. Game data included
And the data would be in the folder: Titaniumbackup

Ok, please bare with me, like I said I do appreciate the patience & help! I gotta learn somewhere
So I already have the game installed on the Z3, so do I go on my Z and click 'backup'? (choose the game of course), once that's done, I put the sd card into the Z3, then how do I restore only the game data? It looks very alien to me haa.
Yes you just click backup, then copy it to your sd card (Titaniumbackup tends to backup on internal memory)
Put the SD in your z3, point titanium backup to the backup folder like i explained earlier, in the middle tab you click the backup of your game and then choose restore data only.
That's all there is to it.
Might sound a little difficult, but really is easy as 123

Your welcome if you enjoy the app make sure to buy the donation version to support the dev
Also that will enable batch backup and restore and more cool and useful functions (like the ability to sync with cloud storage which kinda makes you not needing an SD card for transferring )

Yes, definitely considering to buy, seems I can do so much more!
Btw, as you have been very helpful, you wouldn't perhaps know how to change fonts either do you? I have a vague idea but never tried it coz it got complicated to understand again lol.. & plus, know any way how to get the old styled walkman widget back? (I have a thread about it here & my many problems!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/walkman-widget-ugly-t3031514/post58868867
For the fonts I've never done it, but try fonts installer root from play store ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.font.installer)
Make sure to make a Nand backup first! (you do this from recovery)
---------- Post added at 10:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 PM ----------
For the Walkman thingy, i really don't know... I don't use the widget either. I always just pull down my statusbar or navigate directly from lock screen (i know my songs, and also roughly know how far i am in the song )

I used to use ifont and that worked fine on my xperia z but on the z3 it just changes to italic! Anyhow I'll try look into it more, thanks for the help anyway! I have no idea what nand is either (does it just mean backup in recovery?) even if I did I wouldn't know how to restore/use lol, might stay away from anything for now in case I brick my phone!
And as for the walkman, it is driving me nuts lol..
Yes, Nand is backup in recovery, and can also easily be restored from recovery. Just take a look in recovery for 5 minutes and i think you can manage to do it yourself. It isn't difficult at all.
But as i said, the app i mentioned seems to work fine

hi!
I'm owning a HTC One S since a few days, rooted, and I'm wondering about the best way to back up my device.
Actually I'd like to know what is the most powerful (i.e. more complete) backup app/method: Titanium/Go Backup (or similar), nandroid, or this one: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/ultimate-backup-tool-no-root-required/ ?
If I wipe my cell, which method will allow me to restore it with same apps installed, same icons at the same place, same data and settings for each app (just like a Norton Ghost/Acronis TrueImage)? I think it's the nandroid backup, but I'm not an expert...
2nd question : if I loose this phone and I buy a new one (exact same), will I be able to restore my backup in the new one? Would it work?
3rd question : what about a non-rooted device (thinking to my wife's One V)? can I do a "Ghost" of her phone BEFORE I unlocked her phone's bootloader?
THANK YOU
kinda feel alone here...
anyway, I read more and here is what I understood: nandroid will backup everything like a Ghost, including the ROM. Titanium Backup will backup my apps and data, but not the widgets and homescreen, and Go Backup will backup apps/data/widgets/homescreen.
By saying "apps and data" does it mean "app settings" ?

Don't know about go, but you are correct on everything else. App data is settings saved stuff etc, it's everything about that app. If you restore an app with data it will be exactly as it was when the backup was made.
You do need root to backup using titanium, but I think there are ways to back up some stuff, using other methods, but I don't know them.

Most people seem to gravitate to titanium. I use the app manager in ROM toolbox pro.
OK, question two, yes. Backup the folder from your sd card to a PC. If you get a new phone just copy it to the new phones sd card install titanium (or whatever you used) and restore.
As for three I think you need to be unlocked to install a custom recovery so I don't think so.
Edit: nandroids (what you refer to as a ghost) are done through a custom recovery.

You can, just need to find the system setting for the launcher and backup the data. As long as your new rom uses that same launcher. For example cm uses trebuchet. Apex and Nova are two popular third party ones. Widgets aren't saved though, everything else is.
If you're not using a launcher like apex or Nova I highly recommend you try it. I can't imagine going back to the stock launcher. Plus you don't have to worry about what launcher the rom uses, just back up your third party one like any other app and install on your new rom. Then hit home, set it as default, simple.

I've flashed a new ROM and restored the app from Google Play.
Among them, Titanium Backup and it's Pro key.
First I've saw the error "not enough free storage".
Then uninstalled both the app and the key. Reinstalled.
Wipe dalvik cache and cache...
Nothing works more.
I can install but it always shown Version Pro (donation) - Thank you! but I cannot backup anything.
P.S. I do not have an .odex file in system\data folder (as suggested in other threads).
What can I do?

yes, thats where i was, but it did not detect the legacy location and give me that option like it normally does. Tried editing the post after I figured it out, but I had to wait 5 minutes then didnt care any more lol. In the screen where you select to scan or use current, the back button goes up a level in the directories, so I just had to manually navigate to the proper location

Several fixes have suggested so far and different fixes have helped different people. So here an additional option wich migth help.
I moved the backup folder from it's previous location to /storage/B3EC-1310/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/Backup using adb shell which is a lot faster then using a file manager which moves every file in a directory separately.
The B3EC-1310 is the ID of the SD card which will be different for every SD card.
Then I changed the location in Titanium Backup itself as well. That works for now but is still not perfect. I guess I need to change from the AOKP rom to a rom which does not protect the SD card.

I tried backing up from Titanium Backup, but whatever I tried, it kept complaining about insufficient space.. Tried changing the backfolder to either /storage/0/TitaniumBackup and /storage/legacy/TitaniumBackup, but it still failed. Had to resort to backupping to a USB-OTG stick..
Any settings I need to change or something?
May be you bro, I tried it on my N5, 4.4.2 and I had no issue. I'm assuming you do have plenty of space? You have 6.1.4.3 running?

Edit Device: Galaxy S5 Rom: Alliance v5.3 Android version 4.4.2
Hi XDA gurus...
Just received a Galaxy S5, upgrade from a HTC Desire HD.
Before swapping over which I have not done yet, I want to know if there is a way that a particular Banking App can be installed on the S5 via image or .ISO or whatever, rather than by complete re-installation? I have personal reasons for wishing to do so, without going into detail... don't want to bore you with the reasons.
Hi!
I think the only easy option I can think of that 'should' work, is Titanium Backup. Below I will post a link to a guide for it. The app is on play store or course.
Basically...run a backup on your old phone. Transfer the backup folder from titanium backup on your internal SD to your computer.
Get your new phone setup and install titanium backup. Then just transfer your backup folder onto your new phone in the titanium backup backup folder...so the backup folder ends up in the same spot on your new phone.
Then use titanium to restore your bank app and data.
I would only do this with your bank app...and hopefully it works out. Fresh install the rest....or try restoring them. But if you have issues, you're gonna have to just install them fresh.
Here is the guide ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480343
Other options could be an app that backs up to drive ...or Dropbox. Then restore them on new phone from drive or Dropbox.
There's many backup apps on the play store....just gotta search on them and read their description.
Personally, I'm not a fan of any if this tho. A new phone should have fresh app installs in my personal opinion.....but that doesn't mean it won't work.
Good luck! ?
---------- Post added at 08:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 AM ----------
I should add, both phones need to be rooted to use titanium backup, and many other backup apps.
Also, here's a useful link of someone trying the same thing.
Its not for your device....but the principles will be the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/transferring-data-n4-to-phone-t2728375
Here is the adb backup method. Its far more advanced tho, but you don't need to be rooted.
Read very carefully. And if it seems too much, then don't.
Here's a guide, its not your device....but as long as you aren't flashing any files, it won't matter.
Again, quite advanced....you could ask for help in the thread if needed.

Hi,
my N5 has some presumably hardware related bug: It sometimes crashes and after reboot the battery is almost empty. So Google will now send me a replacement unit.
I wonder: is it possible to backup my old device with TWRP (nandroid backup) and restore this backup on my new device?
This way I would not have to reinstall everything from scratch and just make a perfect clone.
Has this been done before?

Yes you can do this. That being said, DO NOT BACK UP THE OLD N5'S EFS PARTITION. If you do back it up, DO NOT RESTORE IT ON THE NEW N5. It will render it useless if you plan on using it to connect to anything but WiFi. Also make sure to copy everything from /sdcard as Nandroid backups will not save your personal data. So manually backup all your pictures, songs, downloads, etc and move to a PC first.
tl;dr - yes just don't restore old EFS partition backup on new N5 and save your stuff

Correct, long as your personal data is backed up you are good to go. Just when you get your new N5 and put TWRP on it, do a quick backup of your boot partition. Shouldn't take too long and it'll auto generate the backup folder for you to drag & drop you old backup into. You can just delete it afterwards.

If not, you have a file permission issue or something.

Go to About Phone from Settings and click the build version until you enable developer settings and go in there and enable ADB. Plug it into PC and see if the drivers install properly. If they do you'll see the phone connected as "Internal Storage" from your "My Computer". As posted above it should be in the root of your SDcard in TWRP/backups

I found TWRP in the root file system under data/media/0/TWRP
But these folders don't appear under Windows.

So I installed a terminal emulator and typed in:
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
And now TWRP miraculously appeared in my Windows explorer. Thanks a lot!
IMHO, you're just asking for any number of issues. New phone =fresh start. You should just set it up.... How long does it really take. ?
But, it's your device. ?

Oh.... And likely your issues were not hardware, but better chance it was software. Why risk turning your new phone into the mess your old one was. ?
