Best Car Mount? - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

Hey all, I'm looking for a low profile car mount, most likely one of the magnetic ones, I want to keep it OFF my windshield. I just got a new 2014 mustang and it has 0 place to set it. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

This is what I ended up getting from Best Buy.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitec...26.p?id=1219231132128&skuid=6664126&sellerId=
Will come back with a review later, I had a $20 reward zone code so why not?

note 4 is too heavy for vent mounting....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EEEKit-GoPr...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item5d53f61c53
Dont know if you have the convertible or not but.....
i picked this one up. going to attach it to my headliner (top left corner) instead of the visor. trying to figure out how to run a power cable up to it if i like it there.

I just get one of those sticky sunglasses rubber thingys, cut it a bit and placed it on my steering wheel base near the dash. And cut a little piece for between the speedometer and tach. Phone mounts nicely there, like having a built in GPS that can be seen right next to the speedometer. When the phone isn't mounted, it cannot be seen at all.

I'll post picks later but I didnt mount it on the vents, I mounted it on the center voltage flap, I might decide to go with the steelie down the road, but for now this works perfect for me and basically free.

They also have new version .

I'm currently using a car mount that you stick in your air vent, and then it's a magnet for you phone. Works really well, even with the note 4, for how heavy it is.
http://www.amazon.com/TechMatte®-Ma...UTF8&qid=1423762718&sr=8-2&keywords=car+mount
If you have a really heavy case, though, it might not work AS WELL, but it works pretty well.

I can't say that that is a universally true statement. There are some REALLY nice car mounts out there that are NOT iottie. I personally think that iotties are a little overpriced for what they are. There are equally good car mounts out there for a lot less of a price.

There is no equal when it comes to staying put on an uneven rough surface in -25c Canadian weather. Over priced yes but I'll take the peace of mind knowing my Note won't be lying on
the floor when I get back to my car or fall off while I'm driving.

3M double sided outdoor mounting tape does a better job in -40C canadian winters. and it costs a few cents.

I have used many different car mounts of all different costs, but this one is by far the best and not even the most expensive!

Looking for a sturdy N1 car dock (not the htc one)

I'm looking for a sturdy Nexus One dock.
The stock htc car dock is too expensive for me, and kinda short. Besides, my headunit works as a BT, so I don't need speakerphone or the BT in the car dock.
The main point is for it to be not flimsy and, hopefully, fully cover the N1's back from the sun.
I did read the thread with ebay car dock, but people are saying it's bending on the sun and is unreliable.
Any advice is welcome =)

I've been using this one for almost 2 months now.
I'm in Phoenix and it holds up just fine under the sun. The suction cup is pretty secure. Only issue is it doesn't rotate unless you loosen the knobs.
I park in a garage during the day but at work my car is under the sun and when I go home, it's fine.

Is that a spring loaded clamp on the right hand side?
No, its just flexible plastic. That thing behind is to adjust the angle of the holder.
I used this one for a few months, it scratched some teflon off the bottom of my n1. The bottom holder part, below the back button, is quite sharp plastic.
Pro Clip mounts are the only way to go.
They may be pricey, but they don't looks like ass in your car.

but when you're driving a f.o.r.d..... well, you know ;-)
does that mount tend to heat up/freeze the phone when the hvac controls are set to maximum ?
i'm using a target blue light special. don't have the box, but it's got an arm about 8" long, rotates 180*, and is very secure both the cup mount and the phone. cool thing is you aren't locked into one phone or another. it has ratcheting arms that clamp the phone gently with foam pads.
i do like the low profile look of your mount in the mustang though. almost hides the phone completely from prying eyes.

I shut off the vent behind the mount when it's on heat. For AC I usually leave the vent open since it's usually summer and the phone sitting in the sun can get pretty hot.
I definitely close off the vent when the heat is on though, and with the vent closed, it stays a normal temperature.

Dirt cheap custom car mount for Galaxy S

Check this out. Gonna order some parts and give it a go. I'll let you all know how I get on.
Cheers,

That looks nifty but I always prefer OEM accessories... Probably because their quality control is more polished than mine.
Can you give the ebay links that are relevant to our phone?
Here is what you need.
Mount for Garmin Nuvi - LINK
Hardcase for i9000 - LINK
Sticky Pads - LINK
TOTAL: £5.06
How do u make the cup part that goes on the ball part ( I didn't see any such thing in the link...)
Sacky, the mount you quoted does not include the bracket to attach the suction mount to the phone case.
Here's what I've ordered, a bit more expensive, but they're all from the UK, so no waiting for bits from Ummygumgumland:
Mount Holder Suction Cup Garmin Nuvi 275W 255T 465T 260 - £4.99
Black Matt Hard Case Skin For Samsung i9000 Galaxy S - £3.82
Garmin Dashboard Mount Disc GPS SATNAV Nuvi 200 250 255 - £2.99
Total = £11.80 or £8.81 without the dash discs.
I'll update this thread when they arrive and let you know how I get on.
Cheers,
BS...
What's the dash disk for? Can't the garmin thing stick to the dashboard without it?
No it can't. It can stick to the windscreen, but not the dash. You don't need the disc unless you specifically want to attach it directly onto the dashboard.
Cheers,
BS...
Well the suction cup section has arrived, and it's sturdy as hell, perfect! Gonna modify it later using my Dremel type tool. Pics of the process to come.
Cheers,
BS...
The rest of the parts arrived today, I built it tonight and it has surpassed all my expectations.
Photos tomorrow.

Here comes the science bit:
Parts before modification:
Here is were I 'rough cut' the bracket, making sure to leave some of the curved bits on for fine trimming:
Fine trim the rest of the curved bits off to leave it nice and flat:
I'm an IT worker, not a glue expert, but i thought I did alright here
Clamp and leave to cure for a couple of hours:
Notice how the bracket is glued slightly to the left on the second picture, to allow the camera to 'shoot' past the mount when driving. Can be used with apps such as Autoguard Blackbox to record video when driving
Well, I'm made up with the finished article. It's absolutely rock solid when attached to the dash/windscreen, and the phone clips effortlessly in and out of the holder.
Thanks for looking,

The photos are working now but I agree yesterday the they weren't. I agree you have done a good job and produced a fully functioning bracket but you could have saved all the hastle by buying the one I got.
But then life would be so boring, plus I've seen a couple of comments about that type of holder scratching the silver bezel.

I bought this one, mainly because of the extended arm, so I don't have to reach over the dashboard to get to it
Then I bought a cheap mount with the same phone holder part, cut bits off both, bit of superglue here and there, and now my phone and it's silicon case fit perfectly! No scratches!

Car Mount-Xenomix 2x NX2000

Just got this unit from Korea today and I have to say I am impressed. I have been an avid user of Arkon mounts and such but this one caught my eye from the Nexus 7 forums. I was curious if the mount would fit a phone AND the tablet with cases on. Low and behold, that is a yes. I paid 30USD shipped and took about 10 business days to get to me (From Korea).
The packaging is really nice, thin but nice. Inside you find the mount ready to go except for maybe the inserts or tabs to insert in the mount depending on your dash to adjust/correct the height.
The suction cup is comprised of the sticky pad stuff that you see on the Xenogear mounts where you can use a wet towel to re-institute the sticky suction cup if it gotten too dirty.
The GREAT thing is that this mount is way smaller than any of the other "off dash" mounts that I have seen. I prefer this because if you use the mount with a N7, then your vision is not impaired because the tablet it not on the said dash, rather off the dash, maybe hanging is a better term to use lol.
Another awesome aspect of this mount. It can be used with both my Nexus 4 phone with or without a tpu case on. However, you have to place the phone in vertically. Which isn't horrible, I am use to mounts with side clamps of some sort. Just something to get used to.
Anywhoo...here's some pics with both the N7 and N4. I recommend this if you are looking for a smaller footprint of a mount! I'll report back on usage in a couple of days.

LOL you can't. I guess you can try to put an qi charger in there
That would be very cool. Low profile and wireless charging.
Just reporting back after a day of usage.
The adhesive sticks like a sonovagun! LOL On the mounting disk, it's not going anywhere! I assume that the more smoother your dash is, the greater the adhesion.
I also played with the mount and made a few adjustments to lower the bracket as much as possible. To do this, you need to have the expandable claw facing down and then loosen the backing of it to slide it down all the way. In addition, I learned that the mount can telescope OUT if needed. To lock into place, you just have to flip the back switch, which I believed to be the suction cup lever, but it's more of a locking mechanism. Great mount!
Just a fyi, the instructions are in Korean, so no go there lol. But there are pics to get the idea of what is instructed.

Nah it cant be done. You can try to drill a small hole in the mount but I don't think I'll be doing that. I don't want to risk damaging the jaws. And the jaws are too wide to fit the N4 to open up the charging port.

Car mount recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a decent car mount? My dash is textured, so the suction ones don't work, and I hate the ones that stick to the windshield.
Does your dash have enough of a flat spot for a weighted base? That's what I use in my car (a Honda Civic). The base stays put and then I can suction whatever mount I want to it.
It's a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, so the flat surfaces are lacking.

I see two options for you, then.
1) A mount that clips onto an air vent.
2) A mount that has a rigid/flexible arm that sticks out of the cigarette lighter.
A CD-slot mount would be perfect for that dash since there's no screen/buttons/etc above the CD. Amazon has quite a few to check out.
Try the brodit website
For me.. I would get some kind of wireless charging dock..one that's attractive (airdock, the Samsung one etc) and mold it in to the trim. That fo-brushed aluminum trim to the right of the push to start button would be my spot. Pop off that plastic, run the wires behind it and mold in the mounting bracket using advanced wood putty (its called wood putty but the epoxy kind is plastic, very hard and strong) sand and blend..paint to match..bam a seamless transition as if it was always ment to be there =) ..that's what my projects always turn in to lol

I've had the Brodit for many years now and its brilliant. I bought one for my S3 and I can adjust it for each subsequent phones. Available on Amazon also but you do need the clip for your car and the holder for the phone. Worth the money.
May be you will like this product,
you can search ebay item id:201268839849
just only $4.59
There are lots of options if regular suction cups don't work:
Brodit makes custom mounts for lots of car models. You then have to buy the matching holder for your phone.
There are CD-slot mounts if you have a slot load CD player but don't use it.
There are suction cup mounts which work on textured surfaces like the iOttie one I just linked.
There are mounts which anchor into the 12 V plug or into a cup holder.
You can get a plastic disc that has a foam adhesive sticker on one side and a flat smooth surface on the other as a base for a regular suction cup.
As someone else just mentioned there are friction mounts which put a heavy weight on the dash..but those scare me. The potential for a heavy object to become a projectile in an accident is enough to stop me from considering that.
You can also use a combination of these solutions if there is something compatible (17 mm ball joint, AMPS plate) between the car mount and the phone holder. Hope one of those options works for you. I've had a brodit base with a number of things attached to it for the past 6 years.
I use the kenu airframe

The last dash mount I bought for my car included a flat plastic disk that you secured with the 3M 2-sided sticky tape. You mount the suction cup mount to that, and it's rock-solid.

I'm not sure if the Dock'n'Play functionality works, I connect and stream over Bluetooth so I don't use that feature. I just think that the holder itself is solid and my S6 fits fine in a TPU case. This and the previous gen, smaller iBolt are the two most solid mounts I've ever used.

I use a dash mounted grip - works in horizontal not vertical and fits any phone up to 6 inches https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spigen-Ste...1786&sr=8-1&keywords=spigen+car+mount+stealth
I'm using an AnyGrip 100 MD.
* It is a dashmount and my dash isn´t real flat but bended (A Volkswagen Golf VI).
* Non adhesive (but you can use the provided 3M pad) and it's very very sticky!
* Even with my DBrand skin it sticks real good.
* It doesn´t leave any mark.

Do you have any photo of how it look in your car? How does it work or does it work with phone case installed?
Thanks

Sure. Here it is. Sitting nicely in the seam by the radio. And here's the phone on it. The metal plate is in the case. That way there is no damage to the car, no damage to the phone. Love it!

As others have noted, CD slot mounts are some of the worst in the "strong" department. If you look strong look into the Ram X Mount. But be prepared for the industrial anesthetic. I drive a Jeep Wrangler and love it, holds the phone firmly even when driving over rocky off road terrain. But I don't know if I would buy it for a passenger sedan.
Kenu Airframe+ as long as your car has the vents like shown in the pic is amazing!

I'm currently using an iOttie easy one touch 3 suction mounted to my windshield with my 6P. Even though it seems secure there is quite a bit of flex while driving. I drive a Ford Ranger so you feel every bump in the road, even on surface streets. I'm considering upgrading to a RAM X Mount myself(most likely rearview mirror attached mounted on an arm) not sure if it's worth the extra expense however.
Do you use a suction cup with your X Mount?

No, I pulled out one of the screws for the sun visor and replaced it with this
http://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Motorcycle-Handlebar-Screws/dp/B005J43I56
Then I attached the X-grip
http://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Universal-X-Grip-Phablet/dp/B00C7B2NV4
to the ball with this
http://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Double-Socket-Swivel/dp/B009SX0J88
On the Jeep the screw for the sun visor is M8 so this is a fairly clean setup. The X-grip is on the left side of the steering wheel
Is it worth the expense? It depends. There is still a decent amount of play and vibration, especially off-road, but there is zero change of the phone coming loose which is good enough for me. I don't need to read anything on the screen, I just need to be able to see a pre-defined route on a topo map. If I were to do it again I would probably not use a double-socket swivel arm, because the extra joints introduce a lot of play. You get to position the phone perfectly but it does vibrate when there is decent shake in the vehicle.

Personally using a Logitech +Drive car mount. Its operates through magnets and they come with a metal plate which is adhesive but i don't peel off the adhesive protector and chuck it in between my case and phone. I mount the dock on my dash with the included base plate that has a 3M adhesive on the bottom. it would work both on your windshield and your dash because it uses suction cups which have not deteriorated after a year of usage. pretty much the best magnetic mount in australia you can find.
