What do you use root for? - LG G Pro 2

Just wondered what you guys are using root for?
with the release of 5.0.1, and no root, i was wondering if i still needed it. So i checked my SuperSU and this is what i have:
App Quarantine - useful for bloatware
BuildProp Editor - not needed anymore, used it once for Viper4Android
Busybox Free
ES File Explorer - very useful
Flex multiwindow Mod - used it a few times
Game Killer - useful but doesn't work with ART runtime
Storage Analyser - used a few times
Viper4Android FX - used daily - not sure if 5.0.1 is any different and those on lollipop will need to do anything regarding their audio
not listed, but probably useful is the SD card fix so apps can delete/edit files outside of the native app.

- Xposed: G2 TweakBox (remove carrier from lock), GravityBox[KK] (Pie menu + battery), LG Pie Support (for Pie).
- ES File Explorer
- Busybox
- AdAway (though, it can interfere with apps like Facebook - because I don't use such stuff on my phone, I don't care)
Well, these from the top of my head.
I missed Pie + no navbar the most from 5.0.
And hell, as I wrote in other threads, battery life is much worse.

Xposed is here, we can bid farewell to most of immaturity Lollipop comes with. The release of this OS was clouded even for the Nexus devices what else is left to talk about.

Cyanogen's Pre-Req's Remain for this ROM
After reading the Barbones wiki - http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Barebones, I decided that I a better froyo experince could be had if I removed what I didn't/never use.
This is my first ROM modification that I'm posting (I've modded roms before but kept em to myself due to adding paid apps into the base build). Most of the questions that are to be had here, have already been answered in other threads (use the search button!)
This is not meant to be used by n00bs!
This is meant for advanced androiders that know what they're doing and how android works. So questions about how to do this and that, why is this and that, will not be answered (as I said before, already been answered in other threads, so stop being lazy and look for it).
Any other questions are fine though.
The following has been removed from the 8/14/2010 nightly build:
(This is all to my preferences; Fully Tested on my MT3G. Should work on G1 but I don't own one, so a G1 tester confirmation would be helpful)
If options you need were removed, so what, download another ROM and GAPPS package.
---TO INSTALL---
Do you really need to know how to do this? This is just a mod.

System Recommendations:
CM Parts:
- Dithering Off
- JIT Off
- No CompCache
- Lock Home in Memory
- No Apps2SD (I have a MT3G, so it's not needed at all. G1 users would probably need it, but search the forums for that answer since I don't have a G1)

---ROM removals---
=ADWLauncher - (Replaced with vanilla launcher for performance;
If you want LauncherPro or ADWLauncher, go download it since they're constantly being updated)
=Calculator (I have a real calculator!)
=Development.apk (I never use this)
=Email.apk (I stick with GMail for it's push services; POP3/IMAP polling kills the battery)
=Gallery3D (Replaced with 2D Gallery; 3D Gallery is too slow and buggy for me)
=LiveWallpaperPicker (Live Wallpapers are not designed for D/S hardware)
=Music.apk (Better options in the market; don't use my phone for music for batttery conversation)
=Protips.apk (Who cares about this!?!? I sure don't!)
=RomManager.apk (Rom Manager has been updated a few times and the CM version is now old)
=SoundRecorder.apk (The icon is ugly and plain; pick your own recorder from the market)
=SpeechRecorder.apk (Same as above)
=term.apk (I prefer to use Better Terminal Emulator Pro, no use in having two terminal apps)
=voicedialer.apk (I never use this since I'm never driving or using a bluetooth headset)
=vpnservices.apk (I never use this)
=All ringtones and notification (one stayed -Drip) sounds (I use my own/removed for system space)
---ROM Additions--
Toggle 2G
---GAPPS Removals---
=Amazon MP3 (Because I never use the music app, why would I keep this?)
=GenieWidget.apk (Constantly running in background, no matter what I try. I use the browser to keep up on news and weather anyway)
=googlevoice.apk (Updated version in Market; would rather have user control of updating)
=VoiceSearch.apk (Removed to update to Market version)
=Maps (Newer version in market)

How many times have you tried opening the settings?
More than 10 times. All force closes.

Ok, try running a fix permissions. If not, send me a logcat. My intuitions is telling me that it could be the launcher. Will check when I get home.

Still trying to figure out why this is "Advanced Users Only".
Flash ROM, use it.
Not so advanced, but good work I guess.
I think when he says that he means if you have to ask questions on how to set it up or how to fix your bootloop (when you prolly just forgot to wipe) don't install. He doesn't want to have to walk every person who doesn't understand how to set up swap or how to remove or add app through the processes. And i totally agree with him. Many rom pages get cluttered (over 200 pages) with a bunch of useless crap like how much swap people or using when they should be posting logcats or reporting problems. Much stuff like setups vary on what and how the user uses the phone for. So the chance of one person set up will prolly only work about 5% of the time. See even this post is useless but you asked so i answered. Again this is my opinion on why he said that.

I would like to say, good work on this. I gave it a try yesterday since I had been running CM5 for a while (after an attempt to smoothly run CM6) on my G1. It was good until apps2sd was needed via Firerat's scripts. The phone was super sluggish and I was basically back to the same experience with my first try at CM6. This was after a full wipe and fresh SD card. I think I'll hold off on 2.2 until I change devices, but again, good work
Very smooth on my tmobile g1

[Q] Ask for Custom ICS

Hi dev´s and interested readers. :good:
I´m searching for a time for the right thread to ask my question, hoping this´s right place.
For a long time i used a HTC Buzz, always modded this crappy and slow hardware with Cyanogen and others
´Cause of small purse i bought a Phicomm FWS710EU to get a bit faster Hardware. It has a 1Ghz single Core Qualcom CPU
running on ICS 4.0.4, Build FWS710EU_0000_4.0.4_1.0T12_1105_SH with Kernel 3.0.8-perf [email protected]#1
Its fast enough for my things, but its not fine tuned, Android is not half nor complete, quiet no tools
May anyone take hand on this thing building a good and mostly complete Rom based on Jelly Bean or ICS?
Or may anyone assist me to build my own? I´m not noob, but time is short, fulltime Job...
Thanks for reading
Just a quick push
Is someone using the same device? just reply, found out some interesting things
Sorry for "bumping" this tread but I guess the only excuse to this is the actual lack of the device in the hands of developers.
I got it for Xmas before Xmas (lol) and rooted it just a week after I got it BUT couldn't find CyanogenMod or any other custom ROM for it so I installed:
- the updated boot.img via fastboot (you must find it on the English Phicomm supports & downloads page)*,
- Link2SD (really, is 200 MB enough?!),
- "Reloaded ICS for CM9" (Themed statusbar),
- CM10 bootanimation.zip,
- customly modified framework-res.apk (I hated the shutdown screen. I replaced it with the Phicomm P without orange BG),
- Xposed framework with Xposed App Settings (ParanoidAndroid-like forcing of Tablet UI on some apps) and Tweakbox (CRT Screen off effect),
- (graphically glitched) ClockworkMod Recovery (built via the builder on the CWM homepage, jenkins.cyanogenmod.com/job/recovery/17671/ ),
- "Project Butter for ICS",
- Nova Launcher (stock one has special icon theme masking which I personally deny on some apps),
- Widget Locker (Widgets on the lockscreen),
- Apollo (CM music player),
- LMT (ParanoidAndroid pie menu replacement),
- Greenify and Advanced Task Killer (Greenify for more nasty apps, Advanced Task Killer to clear RAM here and there),
- SD-Booster (cache size of 2048 KB),
- ROM Manager (must have),
- Titanium Backup (must have),
- SuperSU (must have),
- Busybox Installer (must have),
- other root tools (for example modifying CPU governors and such),
- AdAway,
- FDroid,
- DSPManager (from CM9, works but shuts itself sometimes down, maybe due to lack of RAM),
- Google Now,
- the LEDFlashlight.apk from the Phicomm update.zip (3rd party apps fail) as system app,
- Jelly Bean Gallery and Camera (Camera sometimes glitches),
- Jelly Bean Keyboard (Swiping is faster than typing),
- Gmail (as stock email app replacement because the stock one sends 2 copies of the email, has tag problems and so on...)
and lots of other apps that I can't list right now (such as games, games and other games).
You mustn't do the same as me but I hope I gave you some directions.
*The updated boot.img contains an updated kernel. I felt a speedup but can't really prove it. The only downside is that the screen stays black for a time at the boot animation. It got released in January.
I would like to build CyanogenMod by myself but I can't because of the bad PC I've got (32bit, 2gb ram is tooooo low-end).

[ROM] [5.1] [10/22/15] LolliGPE - Sense Apps, Xposed, F2FS, Themes[MULTICARRIER]

Team "Brown Eye Winking" Presents:
Digitalhigh GPE - The ORIGINAL GPE for HTC M8
(often imitated, never duplicated!)
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU'RE HERE TO POST A QUESTION OR ISSUE REGARDING THE ROM, PLEASE READ THE OP AND SECOND POST ENTIRELY.
If this is your first time visiting, please be sure to read this and post #2 THOROUGHLY, as I have tried to address many common issues and questions in them. If you ask a question that is addressed here, you will most certainly get a facepalm meme aimed directly at you.
Hi! I'm Digitalhigh, and welcome.
What is this ROM?
This ROM is a mostly vanilla port of the International 5.1 Google Play Edition ROM for the HTC M8 with minimal modification and tweaks. GPE Roms are similar to AOSP in that they are lacking in the custom "skin" that OEM's like HTC and Samsung's respective Sense and Touchwiz use. However, unlike pure source-built ROMS, GPE contains certain features found in OEM ROM's. Specifically, this GPE supports boomsound, motion launch gestures, and the Duo FX camera.
What makes this ROM somewhat unique is that the installation process has been meticulously designed to be incredibly modular and allow for as much or as little customization as desired. Aside from the changes needed to make it work on Sprint and Verizon and updates to Google applications and frameworks, it is possible to install a nearly 100% stock GPE ROM. On the other hand, it's entirely possible to tailor nearly every element of the ROM's applications and performance variables.
In short, it's like an erector set for flashaholics who want some Sense in their Cyanogenmod...or maybe the other way round.

All three MMS apps in the ROM are now fixed for size stuff. Because I'm replacing a core system app (Hangouts), there *MAY* be issues if you have an updated version of it installed as well. I got a bunch of google f/c's after dirty flash - rebooting seems to fix this.

Addendum/faq/bug reporting
Reporting Bugs:
I have a limited amount of time, and there are a TON of posts made to this thread asking for help. I try to answer as many as I can, but sometimes the questions are so redundant or vague - it's not worth my time. To avoid being one of these posts...do the following...
Since this is now a multicarrier ROM, the number of variables involved in solving some issues has increased threefold. If you are reporting an issue, is is going to be very beneficial to both you and I to let me know a few things. What version of this ROM did you flash (post the filename), carrier you're on, what firmware you're using, what kernel you installed, and if you did a dirty flash or restored apps with TiBu.
Also,
I'm a big fan of logcats, especially when it's an issue that can't be easily reproduced. As this is basically a vanilla ROM, the issues should be minimal, but if you do have a problem that can't be easily reproduced, then you need to post a logcat, or I may ignore you or say something snarky instead of providing assistance. Obviously, a description of the issue and how to reproduce it help as well. Saying "my phone dun not work" isn't going to help.
Now, read below and see if your question has already been answered.
Common Issues/FAQ
My wifi turns off when the phone goes to sleep.
Flash the firmware in the OP.
GPS Isn't working(GPS ISSUES)
Flash a stock sense ROM.
Get a GPS lock. (gps only) - You can verify this using GPS Toolbox.
Reboot to recovery.
Flash my ROM.
This doesn't always work on the first try, but once you fix it, it should stay fixed. I've personally had to try like three or four times to get it to stick...but then it's flawless.
Update: People have also reported success by flashing sense - copying gps.conf from /system/etc, flashing back to GPE, and then putting gps.conf back into /system/etc.
What does kernel XXX do?
Look here.
What's this firmware?
It is the wifi, chipset, touchscreen, sensorhub, and adsp (sound) firmware from the official 5.0/5.1GPE release for GSM devices. I have removed the hboot, tz, boot.img, recovery, and repartitioning done by the firmware, as well as modified it to be flashed to any carrier device.
Is this stock HTC/Sense 7 App included? I want it.
The list of current working HTC Stock Apps are:
Dotview
HTC TV
Weather
Camera (Zoe not working)
Gallery
Blinkfeed
Keyboard
Browser
Music Player
File Manager
I've already got the ROM installed and want to do an update...should I wipe first?
Probably not? It depends on which version you're on, but for the most part, you should be fine dirty flashing. My approach is always to try first, and then if there are issues, do a wipe and rebuild my apps and stuff. Most changes I'm making at this point should not require a wipe. If I feel it's wise, I will state as such when posting news of a new release.
If you're NOT currently using GPE, then YES, you need to wipe.
I tried a dirty flash, and the device *almost booted* but it's stuck at "starting apps". Now what?
Sorry. It sounds like you're one of the people where a dirty flash won't work. This is *usually* a result of updating google play services and skipping revisions. You could try manually deleting the folder /data/data/com.google.android.gms using TWRP file manager. If that still doesn't work, then you should probably just do a clean install.
I tried a dirty flash, and the device booted, but a bunch of apps are crashing/not working/complaining about files missing. What is with this *&^# ROM?
Dirty flashing is called "dirty" for a reason. You're taking a running filesystem and trying to insert a bunch of new programs. Sometimes this works, sometimes the jump from app versions is so much that it breaks those apps. The simple fix is to do a clean flash. If you're feeling more intrepid, find the folder for that app in /data/data and delete it using root explorer or TWRP file manager.
Will Xposed work with this?
You betcha! This has the "alpha" Xposed for 5.1. It is very solid. However, the modules that have been updated to work with 5.1 are still a little scarce, so you will have to test some of them to see if they work.
For your convenience, I have included Gravitybox and Xhangouts with the installer.
I installed this ROM, and now my screen/wifi/touchscreen/etc isn't working correctly!
Have you read through the firmware instructions in the OP? Please do.
Will I be able to use other ROMS with this firmware?
Probably? All I'm doing is replacing hardware bits with the latest ones. If your wifi doesn't work on a different ROM...flash the stock firmware back.
Okay, so does the Sense camera not work with this ROM or not?
IT DOES! For the longest time...it didn't. But now it does, and it's included with the ROM.
A few of the features (like Zoe) are not available, but this is the only Sense 7 Camera/Gallery combo with working Duo FX.
I flashed this ROM, and now my SD card is gone in recovery!
Your stuff is still there - your recovery just isn't smart enough to see it. Update to the latest version of TWRP by Captain_Throwback from here and you will be fine.
HELP! I flashed this ROM, and now my LTE doesn't work...even on other ROMS!
First off, chill out. This is a known issue with HTC devices as a result of nothing more than flashing ROMS over and over and over and over again. While it is alarming, it's fairly easy (albeit involved) to fix. Read below:
Anyone having radio issues: The NV partition, which handles the radios, may be corrupted. Especially if you do a lot of ROM and firmware flashing. You can flash all the ROM's and firmware you like but it will not change the fact something is corrupt. The only way to reset the partition to out of the box stock is to flash your carrier's 4.4.4 firmware and the stock recovery for you device. Reboot to recovery and select factory data reset and let it do it's thing. If you watch the reset log you will see it mention resetting the NV partition. Then just flash back your recovery of choice and ROM of choice. This has been the proven fix for HTC devices for a few years now.

Is it presently still not possible to incorporate HTC sense framework to have things like Zoe , Gallery, Camera, and... Well I guess that's all I really care about haha. I want to take advantage of the dual back cams, but other than that, I want my AOSP style back!

Thank you and GPE does take advantage of dual cam when you take pic it should pop up for edit.

I'll let you know if it works on this one soon. But it should, I read somewhere a while back where HTC supplied the ONE M8 GPe with the camera firmware to make it work. And since the software for the GPe devices come from the manufacturer not from Google, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.
Awesome, installing now!
This feels laggy compared to the stock ROM. I might have to switch back if it doesn't change.

That's very surprising. Maybe it is missing certain optimizations? In my experiences I've never seen a GPE Rom get outperformed by something Sense-Based.
Though I will say that my tweaked/rooted Stock Rom with faux kernel is ripping fast right now. Best stock experience I've had to date.

Are the audio enhancements there? I really think HTC nailed the audio with boomsound.

I'm synced and settled down, and the only lag I get is with camera. Everything else seems comparably responsive.

I am seeing the lag as well, nothing horrible but it is there, I have noticed after a reboot though it mostly goes away. Except in the camera. It is almost unusable. Also I can confirm that the dual camera system is definitely working right. Also I think that we are still having raido issues, I attached a few screenshots but I am on 3G, and my other M8 that is stock gets LTE when I sit them side by side. And my network is 31000 instead of Verizon Wireless, and we are still roaming.

As always the ROM comes without Google Play and all that stuff but you can easily use Google Installer V2 to install Google after flashing this ROM
After a few days using it, it´s very smooth, fast and battery friendly and (at least for me) without any bugs so far.
And best of all, the Android Security Patch is now from December 2016, quite new compared to the old ROM with Patch from August.

Rooted and Stock - What to add/tweak?

I've rooted my Stock OS Pixel 3 XL - What to add/tweak?
Suggested discussion format:
- What specifically have you used root for to add or tweak your Stock OS?
- What did each addition/tweak accomplish?
- What have you tried but then removed, and why?
- What are you considering but haven't tried yet, and/or want to accomplish but haven't found a way to yet?
Running Pie PQ2A.190405.003 by the way...
- What specifically have you used root for to add or tweak your Stock OS?
So far, I have added Majisk with the following Majisk modules: Active Edge Mod, FDE.AI, Systemless Hosts. I have also added AdAway using F-Droid app.
- What did each addition/tweak accomplish?
Active Edge Mod - Allows custom response when squeezing the sides. I bought the Pro version, and have it set to pull up the camera when squeezing while the phone is locked. If the phone is unlocked, a squeeze turns on the flashlight.
FDE.AI - Much like L Speed or HEBF Optimizer apps, but I'm seeing if I can truly buy into the 'set it and forget it' simplicity of FDE.AI.
Systemless Hosts - Found this in Magisk settings options. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe this allows Magisk to hide adblocking attempts (AdAway in my case) from the OS and any apps which may try to counter adblocking efforts.
AdAway - The #1 reason I rooted - system-wide adblocking!
- What have you tried but then removed, and why?
I tried to install the Majisk module OnePlus Slate Font Systemless, but I immediately noticed that it turned the : on my lockscreen clock into a rectangle in error, so I removed it.
- What are you considering but haven't tried yet, and/or want to accomplish but haven't found a way to yet?
I am considering ViPER4Android. I'm vaguely familiar with this app, but don't want to tinker too much - just want to improve the Pixel 3 XL's audio quality overall if I can just install it and make a few adjustments (or none) and end up with a difference. Maybe this weekend...
Also, I had a OnePlus 6 - I'd love to find an easy way to black theme all of the OS screens like you could with the flip of a switch on the OnePlus (or a Samsung) - but without having to install a custom ROM. Update: Ah yep, I remember now: Substratum.
- What specifically have you used root for to add or tweak your Stock OS?
Magisk installed via TWRP.
- What did each addition/tweak accomplish?
Viper4Android (Use mostly convolvers, xhifi and bass effects + My HTC USB C to 3.5 is delicious), All kind of magisk modules, such as Google Sans MOD (The font is systemwide), Energized (like adaway but more aggresive), FDE.AI (resulted in little bit more of juice), Rboard Themes (for gboard theming), and other mods that requires magisk like Riru Core and Riru Xposed (and with this MinMinGuard (no ads systemwide in apps), GravityBox (LOTS of tweaks with this love the EQ Visualizer on lockscreen) and Whatsapp Tweaker (some mods for beta whatsapp)), YouTube Vanced (for no ads and background playing), substratum (theming), Sa2ration (for sturate a litle bit the oled screen), ActiveEdgeMod.
- What have you tried but then removed, and why?
One r two substratum themes because some layers break apps when updated, Custom Kernels (in general they help performance but my SOT decrease), tried to uninstall some system apps but results were not good.
- What are you considering but haven't tried yet, and/or want to accomplish but haven't found a way to yet?
Screenshots in secured apps (Think there's a tool for this but haven't tried)
Some mods in whatsapp tweaks (don't want to get banned)
Android Q but still need apps for banking, work which not support it.
