SM-T235 / SM-T235Y Tab 4 7" - ROOTED - TWRP Recovery 2.8.7 for SM-T235/235Y (LTE) - Galaxy Tab 4 General

SM-T235 / SM-T235Y Tab 4 7" - ROOTED - TWRP Recovery 2.8.7 for SM-T235/235Y (LTE)
UPDATED 7/30/2015 with OFFICIAL TWRP 2.8.7 for Galaxy Tab 4.7.0 SM-T235(Y) DEVICESAs with other TWRP's for newer Samsung devices, you need to uncheck auto-reboot and F.Reset time in Odin so you can manually shut down the device and boot into recovery the first time after flashing the custom recovery. If you don't boot into the custom recovery immediately after flashing it to the device, then the OS will overwrite it with the factory recovery and you'll need to start over.
DISCLAIMER :
While we all love to flash new things, You and You alone can choose or choose not to flash this custom recovery.
I am not liable for any of the following : Bricks, Soft Bricks, Meltdowns, loss of data, or damage to your device.
DISCLAIMER #2:
THIS RECOVERY WILL TRIP YOUR KNOX COUNTER - YOUR WARRANTY WILL BE VOID.
THIS RECOVERY IS ONLY FOR SM-T235 and SM-T235Y Tab 4 7" LTE Devices
INSTRUCTIONS1). Download Odin3v1.85.zip, recovery.tar.md5.zip, and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip - all attached
2). Unzip Odin3v1.85.zip placing the extracted folder somewhere on your PC you can find and execute Odin3 from later.
3). Store UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip somewhere on your SM-T235's external SD storage where you can find it from TWRP later.
4). Unzip recovery.tar.md5.zip placing the extracted file recovery.tar.md5 somewhere on your PC you can find it from Odin3 later.
5). Put SM-T235 tablet in Download Mode (Power Button+Volume Down+Home Button)
6). Flash recovery.tar.md5 using Odin3 v1.85 - use PDA/AP button in Odin - UNCHECK Auto-Reboot and F.Reset Time
7). When flashing is completed you will see RESET displayed in Odin3.
8). Unplug your SM-T235/SM-T235Y from the PC and press (Power Button+Volume Down+Home Button) to initiate a restart/reboot - Don't release your fingers from the buttons.
9). IMPORTANT: AS SOON AS THE DEVICE POWERS DOWN (screen goes blank) MOVE YOUR FINGER FROM THE VOLUME DOWN BUTTON TO THE VOLUME UP BUTTON WHILE STILL PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON+HOME BUTTON.
10). IMPORTANT: AS SOON AS THE SAMSUNG SM-T235 LOGO APPEARS (White Letters) RELEASE YOUR FINGER FROM THE POWER BUTTON WHILE CONTINUING TO PRESS VOLUME UP+HOME BUTTON (If the animated Samsung Logo appears, then you missed Recovery mode and will need to start the entire process over from the beginning.
11). IMPORTANT: If you timed your finger pressing and releasing properly, you should now SEE the blue TEAMWIN splash screen which means you are entering TWRP recovery.
12). Once in TWRP Recovery, you will see a button that says Install. Tap on it.
13). Find UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip where you previously stored it on your external SD card and install/flash it to your SM-T235/235Y using TWRP.
14). Once installation of UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip is completed, you can proceed to reboot your SM-T235/T235Y from the TWRP main menu.
15). After the device finishes booting up, your Galaxy Tab 4 7.0" SM-T235/T235Y will be rooted.
16.) Download and run RootChecker to verify root.

That really blows, I feel your pain. I use chrome on my desktop with the adblock extension (I think it's even available for IE now) and I find the -- XDA 2013 theme for the website is much more aesthetically appealing and easier to navigate

It works! Changing of buttons is kinda tricky though, but its all good.. Thanks alot! :good:

Confirming what you posted in the old thread, that your device is a SM-T235Y ?
Glad it works.
The T235Y has different factory ROMS on sammobile than the T235. Differences include CSC groupings, and configured radio bands, but the kernel and the partitions are the same as the T235. I suspect that's why this recovery works for the T235Y too.
- Speaking of which, can anybody point me in the direction of a way to get past the hurdles Samsung has added to block the ability to reconfigure LTE radio bands
- If we need to change the CSC's or CSC group to be able to enable LTE Bands 4 and 17, well, Sammy's making that tough to do too.
- Wondering if I can flash the modem firmware from the S5 Mini on the Tab 4 7" LTE using TWRP?
- Then wondering if bands 4 and 17 would be available after flashing since the CSC's play such a role in which radio band's get configured on each device.
Any help with the radio would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it's T235Y.. You can add T235Y in your title so other users will know.. Yes it has different ROM so I hesitated at first. Just need a couple of beer to do it, lol. Thanks a lot for this recovery. :good:

My friend....Congratulations...I have tried any method known to Google to root this tablet. Yours was the only one that worked. I have been waiting for this moment from November so thank you for making my day.

Success!!
I played fingers just like over my guitar fingerboard, haha! Then, suddenly, I was in face of TWRP face!
First of all: install SD fix!

SD gets fixed if you flash a newer factory ROM than the 5/22 NE8 version. You will need to reinstall TWRP and re root.
TWRP installation and root tested and found to be working no matter which ROM you are running, including the latest version, NJ3
TTB
P.S. After rooting, KNOX can be disabled using ES Task Manager and it doesn't respawn, remains disabled. I'm toying with this in an attempt to get service mode changes to the available LTE bands to stick.
P.S.S ... I'll be releasing either ALPHA 2 or BETA 1 with the Slide to install SuperSU fixed and the missing advanced menu items added later this week.

No Custom ROMS yet, but since we now have a working recovery and root, there will hopefully be some soon..
I'm beating my head against the wall trying to get LTE bands 4 and 17 added. The factory firmware is quite unforgiving. A custom ROM would sure make the effort easier. Someone PLEEZE ......
Regarding freezing Knox, yes that's what I meant, and it works, but I've managed to wipe the CSC during my efforts to add LTE bands. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing at this point.
Apparently the Samsung USB drivers do have a diagnostic mode driver for Marvel chipsets. After much effort, I have it installed on my Win 8 machine, and the driver switches dynamically when switching from PDA to MODEM in the Service Mode menus. Problem is, its not a serial driver it is a USB/QC driver and QPST version 2.7.411 still doesn't recognize it. Need to find a way to get QPST to recognize it.
Can't do the NV ram edit needed to add LTE bands without diagnostics mode.

It works. SM-T235 LTE
Thanks!

I think my t235y will never be rooted, you are awesome bro

Thanks for your efforts, TTB!
Now a question : can we make a Nandroid bckp on the External SD?
I would to make one, but, apparently, the bckp goes to Internal, where I have no place ...
Is this intrinsic of TWRP or a later version can change this?

Check the T230 recovery/root threads. I believe (not 100% certain though) I saw that someone has created a fix/work-around to allow switching internal SD and external SD for this.

What do you mean you think it will never be rooted? This works on the T235 and the T235Y.

[ROOT/GUIDE] SM-T210R For Dummies, or Rom display issues

Talking ROOT SM-T210R SIMPLE and Easy, 8gb, White
Okay so I've been at it for days and i mean like months.... when I first bought my 8 gb white Samsung galaxy tab 3 Kernel 3.4.5, android 4.1.2, model JZ054K.T210RUEAMK1 and all i have been running into is problems, like jittery display issues, or flickering display, I tried every method but none has worked but i finally found one and got it all working and running, First of all i would like to thank gr8nole for this method, and all who have helped him. So first let me explain the most easiest explanation for dummies like me, or noobs,
NOTE: KIES, will fix any display issue and bring you back to your original rom, i forget to add this, because ours is the pain in the bottom, to get it to work correctly, it go download, http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/, download windows version then follow this method, http://www.samsung.com/us/support/faq/FAQ00048586/52928, then it will get you back to basic then make sure to check usb debugging
Just and example video for visual learners http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xolmt...ature=youtu.be, but you want to click on the files i suggested on the bottom lol not what he has on his screen xD
Must Have: KIES, make sure you have fully updated rom from samsung themself which can be found on kies (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/faq/FAQ00048586/52928) use this method, when you plug it in and update firmware, which your android should be on 4.1.2 and version because that's what i have
1. First lets Get all the files we need, First go download SM-T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip at his xda post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433853, after you have download that you will a friend name odin, which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539 (With odin you only want to use v3.07) and nothing else , Last but not least, you want this file from gr8ole android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip and save that to your sd card or ext while click on usb debugging or wherever you wanna store in on tablet
so you should have odin 3.07
T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip (lol make sure to extract this file so odin can see it xD)
android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip
2. Use the same method as g8nole and minor adjustments
Instructions:
1. Download ODIN on your computer (just do a google search to find it...version 3.07 will work fine). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
2. Power off the device.
3. Restart in "Download Mode" by holding the "HOME" button, "Volume Down" and "Power" all at the same time (for about 5 seconds).
4. Hit the "Volume Up" to enter download mode.
5. Start the ODIN exe program using admin rights which means right click run as admin. I recommend un-checking Auto Reboot. DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION!!, LEAVE UNCHECKED!! YOU BEEN WARNED (which it already should be). See notes about ODIN below.
6. Connect the device via USB to your computer. Verify the device shows as "Added" in the Message box. If it doesn't show then you need the Samsung USB drivers (just install KIES to get them) which can be found here http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/.
7. Select "PDA" then choose the T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip.
8. Hit "START"
9. Wait for device to restart. Which means wait til odin says OKAY in the white box and the Picture ask you to reset, When the download icon on your tablet, and under download updates is full bar, and odin says reset!, just unplug it. then restart by holding the power button down, with vol up, and home, once the samsung picture shows, just let it run and onces its on put the zip file andriod universal root in any place you like, then reboot while holding the power, vol up, home, then only hold the up vol button when you see the logo, while also holding the home button, recovery mode should now be on. Select install zip, and locate the android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip)navigate with the up down volume button and power button to select file, whichever you placed in sd, or exsd,
10. When all is done reboot device, then it will update your android once you turn it on, Now the anoying part, It will be rooted but what google play won't connect?, easy fix , first lets just update all the binaries since its already rooted in supersu app,
Google Store Fix, now first you have to delete your some things, your apps wont dissapear or nothing as long as you dont uinstall them, go to settings<application manager<all<google play store<clear data/cache w.e<force stop<uninstall updates<it will then ask you it will be factory installed<yes, next step, delete your gmail account if you haven't done so, now go to your time settings (Date and Time) and change it to recent date whichever today is , then open play store and it will ask you to sign in again, blah blah google needs sign up and it should be up and running
ALL DONE, remember this is for people who have run into flicker display problems, which is caused by kernal issue with our model, but with stock rom itself we can universally root it through odin with just that simple method which took me like 3 mins lol to do
Grats guys! you have root and cwm now who doesn't want that enjoy and thanks to developers hard work! and my ambition!
Great guide. My friends SM-T210R kept getting kernal panic mode and the flickering screen. I did the same thing you did except I also installed Rocket Tab rom and Blackhawk kernel. It still Crashes every couple hours. I never could get the stock Kernal + Rom to work not sure what I was doing wrong. Perhaps I will follow your guide exactly this weekend.

thanks a lot this is my first guide i ever created in my life really lol so its kinda jumping around the place but this will root your samsung white, 8gb, and you wont get the display issue, and then download gl to sd with a 32gb card my god i can fit so many stuff, im so freaking happy, i found this method out, but im addding more stuff to it so you can start from scratch if your tablet can get in download mode then its never broken, i tested this like 15 times already, its been working fine for me, i was just trying to get step by step as low as possible
I'm trying to follow the instructions for the Kies restore.
I keep getting this error however. (Yes USB debugging is enabled. I also tried doing it from Download Mode)

OK, I could be wrong... I just got the tab 3 for my daughter and haven't done anything to it yet.
But from my S2 experience.... And this might be incorrect because I can say I never ever really used kies..... But I don't think keis will work anymore on a rooted device with a custom recovery ? It could be I'm wrong, that it won't work with a custom Rom tho... Maybe it should work with custom recovery and root.... But I thought it didn't.
Anyway, don't know if there's a file out there for this device, but I've always just used Odin to return to stock. I never used kies. Cause kies is an unstable, unreliable mess.
Anyone feel free to add to what I've said..... Or correct me tho.

I used to have an S3. From download mode, Kies would always restore it fine. Also I have stock rom and recovery when I tried to run Kies. I was simply trying to get back to my countries proper rom. (Which I can't download because SamMobile download hosts are awful)
I even emailed Samsung about it, they got back to me this morning. They told me to reinstall Kies, if that doesn't't work take it to a Samsung support center.

my bad i was busy with work but, kies just gets you back to stock version, and this is for sm-t210r, which i rooted from stock version using this method, but it seems you have sm-t10 regular, if you have that, odin would do just fine this is for your model, this method is for sm-t10R, and model number

yea depends what he has though if he has sm-t210 then just use odin but using odin with a pre-rooted will get you flickering screen on sm-210R, if you have regular then you have to go a different route to restore it back to normal, if you have a flicker screen problem or any problem, then the kies method i have will recover it, in kies just use the update tab on sm-t210 and it will recover to stock thats all or use odin, your choice. if you want to root sm-t210 the method is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433853, this will root yours np ^^

Question. I followed the instructions which are more or less the same as what I did to root my S4. When I enter download mode in the device and open Odin (v3.047) and I select the folder where I downloaded the CWM file, T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip, I am not able to see that file in the selection.
Odin itself does not recognize the .zip extension as a valid file type for PDA files so is this simply an issue of renaming that file and removing the .zip from the extension? If so then the OP needs to be corrected to include this step because otherwise people will sit there wondering why this same thing is happening to them.
For reference Odin PDA File extensions are *.tar, *.md5, *.smd, *.gz and *.tgz.

yea so its odin v3.07 and it is basically your steps lol, like every detail, but just a twist for our model sm-t210R model k, this method is for basically anyone who messed up their tablet because they did the prerooted version for sm-t210r,
Yeah, I thought it would be a quirk. I used an older version when I was mucking around with my GS4 and had a similar issue but by removing the .zip in the file name it recognized it and worked. My work around with this one though was unzipping the file contents and pointing to the unzipped file. Never a dull moment.
For a while it was a scare though yesterday because something screwed up with recovery and I got the dreaded screen flicker and could not find a way to correct it. Not only that but I was already having issues with recovery that I could not get any of them to install. I kept getting permission issues. I ended up blind guessing things and was able to fix it by using TWRP 2.6.3 MK1 then when that was fixed I used ODIN to install the T210RUEAMK1_T210RXACAMK1_XAC to get things back to stock'ish. From there I was finally able to root the device with the universal-root-signed-zip.
This nightmare has me gun shy and I am hesitant to even want to attempt a custom ROM now. I've successfully rooted my wife's HTC Sensation which was a series of hoops, my previous GS2, GS3 and the GS4 without ever so much as a hiccup. My personal phones I am a ROM whore. When I installed the triangle away last month and checked the counter on the GS4 I had 31 on the counter.. in four months. Unless there is a bullet-proof ROM for this pad I don't see it happening. It blows, I may unload it and get something different that is not so much of a mess.
Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah, I thought it would be a quirk. I used an older version when I was mucking around with my GS4 and had a similar issue but by removing the .zip in the file name it recognized it and worked. i feel ya man, i been messing around with roms also only one i got to work was rocket lite, but that gave me a few bugs, so i just recovered back to rom, the only reason i used kies because when i would go to the samsung site to get the file for it, it was busy and would never download, so i found this method to just root our sm-t210R model K, so far i can't even get kernals to work either, like for exp cwm, you need that version or your screen flickers, its really anoying, unless you have that one, truthfully i think the most hard models to root or install rom, there are certain types of cwm, rom, etc just for it. Like how odian 3.07 only works with the cwm file, i used the new one but i get a bad screen or it doesn't even load...pretty much a big middle finger
Yeah, it kind of sucks and after coming from the S4 being able to pretty much throw everything at it and it works including the first versions of 4.4.. this tab has been a pretty big let down for me. I was going to try Rocket Tab but the download time is ridiculous so going to give Crash ROM an at bat next.
biggyhead said:
my bad i was busy with work but, kies just gets you back to stock version, and this is for sm-t210r, which i rooted from stock version using this method, but it seems you have sm-t10 regular, if you have that, odin would do just fine this is for your model, this method is for sm-t10R, and model number

I don't understand why it would though.
SM-T210 and SM-T210R are identical except the R model has infrared. Everything else is identical.

This root method tutorial is only for Galaxy S5 SM-G900F. Please do not try on any other Galaxy S5 LTE variants.
Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding as a precaution.
Your Galaxy S5 should be on an official firmware by Samsung, not a custom ROM.
Remember you may brick or damage your phone i would like to mention i take no responsibility what so ever should you somehow manage to do that! By trying this guide might solve the issue for now
Not sure why but doesn't seem to be that stable for me with this one maybe it's just my phone but that's just to mention so anyone may take note of this, if you don't need root then avoid for while till it's fixed.

Enter your smartphone in download mode: for achieving that, first turn off your device; then press power, volume down and home buttons at the same time.
Connect your device with your computer via USB cable.
Odin will recognize your SGS5 thus the “added” message will be displayed and the ID:COM section will turn yellow or blue – if not, reinstall the drivers on your computer and retry the steps from above.
From Odin select the “PA” option and pick the TWRP recovery file from desktop.
Don’t make any other changes and in the end click on “start”.
The installation process will be automatically completed.
The “added” message will be displayed in the end and the ID:COM section will turn green.
Unzip USB cable and reboot your smartphone.
You can learn how to enter recovery mode on your Android device by using our dedicated tutorial.

you need to use the other link for the root and go through it properly after rooting update and go through it completely then you can go for recovery the problem with lollipop is unstable root that's what causing it else the ROM is stable and fully working 100% without any problem as is!
can somebody please explain why there are like three threads with the same firmware?? what's the point?

its not stable nor fast, and the guide you made is like everywhere so you really didn't add anything!.
loads of applications wont work on this rom and its bloody slow.
I don't know what k0sh is on about but there's nothing wrong with this Rom. It's very fast, all my apps work perfectly and the battery life is as good as most other roms. The only bug I have found is the Gifs do not display properly in twitter. They look like they're being fast forwarded!

Ignore the guy, he's an idiot. I remember him from Galaxy Tab days. Obviously nothing has changed.

[ROOT] Galaxy Tab 4 10.1" SM-T530/NU

Edit: This method was intended for KitKat only. If you want to root lollipop, follow this guide
ROOT FOR GALAXY TAB 4 10.1" SM-T530/NU
THIS IS FOR THE T530/T530NU NOT ANY OTHER T53X MODELS. IF YOU TRY THIS ON A DIFFERENT MODEL I'M NOT PAYING TO REPLACE YOUR NEW PAPERWEIGHT
All the necessary links, files, and instructions can be found at this sitehttp://www.w0lfdroid.com/2014/09/To...4-S5-and-Note3-Android-4.4.2-NF-or-Later.html. The kernel files you will need to download are at the bottom of the downloads list, under all the phones (or you can just ctrl+f your model number). Odin can be found anywhere just make sure it's a reliable source.
So it seems Samsung has been patching whatever kernel exploit towelroot was taking advantage of. Now there is at least one other method to root these newer builds, but it trips knox, thereby voiding whatever warranty Samsung gives you. The method linked to above should NOT trip knox or even cause you to lose any data. All it really consists of is using Odin to flash an older kernel (temporarily) to root using towelroot, and then flashing a (slightly) modified kernel from the newest build to keep root.
I'm sharing this in the hopes it helps those looking for root obtain it, without worrying about that knox nonsense. A word of warning though, Odin is one of those programs that if you do something wrong, you can permanently brick your device. So don't play around with the settings at all, just have it the same way it shows in the pictures
I'm going to quote the instructions below (adding on where I see fit), but you'll have to visit the website for the files and of screenshots of how to use Odin. You need to have Odin v3 (I usually use 3.09) on your computer, as well as the kernel files, towelroot.apk, and of course the drivers for your tablet installed.
This process WON'T wipe your data, but backup your tablet just in case this process corrupts your data.
Go to your System Settings->General->Security and check the box to all Unknown Sources. This will allow you to install towelroot, the application that will root your tablet.
Download then unzip your tablet kernel files, to a place you'll be able to easily find them.
Boot your tablet into download mode (hold home, volume down, and power) run Odin v3.exe on your PC and connect usb
Flash Model_ROOT_Kernel.tar.md5 file using odin3 in PDA or AP section.
Make sure Re-Partition is NOT selected.

Once Odin is finished, reboot your tablet into the stock rom
Root your device using TowelRoot method (install the apk, run the app, follow the prompts it's simple)
Make sure your tablet is rooted ...
Flash back the specific kernel for your tablet build number using Odin3 in PDA or AP section.
Congratulations, your tablet is rooted on the latest update without tripping binary or KNOX counter.

If you don't know what knox, odin, towelroot, etc. all are, don't have a heart attack over all the terminology. The point is this'll root your tablet without messing with anything at all.

Yeah but towelroot doesn't work on the newest builds, and while the only known solution around here is to stay stuck on an older build the link I provided allows you to be rooted on the most recent firmware. For those who prefer to stay on the most recent stock, I'd argue this is a valuable link.
Is this gonna work for the current KitKat 4.4.2?

Yeah if you have either the SM-T530 or SM-T530NU, this is designed for the most recent KitKat builds. Click the link, check it out

Just the IR blaster but the T530 update has a different build number, idk why but OA1 was originally on the website, the guy must've taken it down for some reason. Give me about 10-20 minutes and if you want I'll PM you the new kernel Odin file for your model number
Thanks guys for PMing me.
Although it didnt help directly (no access rights to one file, md5 error on another kernel) i was able to find a suitable file:
boot_T530_XXU1AOA1.tar.zip
So now everthing is fine and rooted again. Maybe i should invest in superSU pro?

Oh nice, sorry I couldn't help but thank you for sharing. I think Supersu pro is more of a thank you gesture to the Dev, but I guess whatever extra features you get can't hurt, your call. Just know you won't need or really want to install SuperSU if you put Cyanogenmod on your tablet

Really confused..
Hi guys, I am wanting to root my SMT530, however I am confused as to what builds will trip knox (Ideally I do not want to..)
My device is currently running "T530XXU1ANH7" If someone could please help me out as to 1 - Whether it's possible? (from what I can see it is) and 2 - Via what method? (CF Auto Root / Towelroot etc)
Many thanks!

OA2 kernel
1) I just bought a SM-T530NU, and shows that it has an OA2 kernel. Will the OA1 kernel work with it?
2) Do I need to install both the OAx and ROOT kernels?
3) How can I tell what processor is in the device? (It is the GT4 nook version sold at Barnes & Noble.)
Thanks for your help.

For what purpose do you want to get Root? I can learn?

Root Kitkat/Lollipop KNOX 0X0

I searched but couldn't find a proper guide to do what the title says..
Whatever is mentioned in pieces here and there aren't detailed enough for a starter..
Thanks to
@geohot for TowelRoot
@Chainfire for Mobile Odin Lite/Pro and SuperSU
@joeykrim for Root Checker
@Wrathlon for the pit file (I registered on XDA just to Thank him - he helped me overcome Boot Loop with that pit file when I installed the 1st Poland Kitkat firmware) :highfive:
Please let me know if I am missing crediting someone else..
TowelRoot won't function on recent Kitkat firmwares because geohot has been hired by Google and therefore, the loophole was fixed (this is what I've read on XDA-not very sure about it though it makes sense)..
Mobile Odin Lite/Pro won't function on latest Kitkat firmwares & any of the Lollipop firmwares.
Now, moving on..
I own the 32 GB International variant of Samsung Galaxy Note (from UK), Model : SM-N9005 to be precise, I am not sure if this works on other models of Note 3 or not
I am gonna mention here the steps that I followed, in a manner as precise as I can enlist..
I'll also gonna try to do so in a manner that's as elaborate as I can make it.. Therefore, some steps might seem obvious and/or extra
If you still find yourself in any doubt-do let me know..
Strong Personal Advice -
Please read the steps twice before you actually start following them
Because these are all Official Firmwares that we're gonna be using, you don't need to turn on ADB (Android Debugging) in Developer Options.
Requirements
Install latest Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones (current latest can be downloaded from here).
Download and extract N9005XXUEND3_BTU
Download and extract N9005XXUGNG1_BTU
(only if you want to your device to be finally on Lollipop), download and extract N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO (you can find all of these here at Sammobile.com or Samsung-Updates.com
Download the archive from the attachment & extract it. It contains a pit file, Odin v3.09 (newer versions are available too, I provided with this version so that snapshots don't differ), SuperSU v2.46, Root Checker (so you won't need to visit Play Store when your phone would be lagging after downgrading) SuperSU v2.46.zip & TowelRoot (so you won't need to visit their respective websites when your phone would be lagging after downgrading)
I request you guys to visit these websites before & or after this process to donate to their creators.
Guys! Please do so.
You'll also need Mobile ODIN Pro which can be bought from here.
Back up your data & ensure that your phone is charged 80% or more
Downgrade to N9005XXUEND3_BTU
Use Odin v3.09 & flash your phone with the N9005XXUEND3_BTU tar.md5 file & use the pit file that I provided in the attachments
Make sure that before you hit the Start button, it matches this snapshot-

The actual name & path of files will differ, just ensure that the same options are Ticked/Unticked
Let the device boot normally, a seeming Boot Loop might be encountered (I encountered it), don't worry, let it Boot Loop several times, finally, it'll Start
It'll lag (mine lagged badly ), will not have any Network signal/IMEI
Don't panic & be patient with your phone, you might need to pull out the battery if it goes totally unresponsive (mine did), but it'll manage to get the work done & be better with the operations after some time.
Connect it to the same PC as before (if you removed it after flashing it)
Copy the extracted tar.md5 from N9005XXUGNG1_BTU archive, SuperSU v2.46.apk & TowelRoot.apk into the phone's internal memory
Install TowelRoot.apk & Root using the app (reboot won't be required-I didn't need to)
Install SuperSU v2.46.apk & let it update SU binaries
Tick on Enable Pro in SuperSU, it'll restart itself
Tick on Survival Mode in SuperSU
Restart your phone now.
Use Root Checker, grant it SuperSU access & you should have Root access now.
Upgrade to N9005XXUGNG1_BTU
Purchase Mobile ODIN Pro & run it (grant it Root access)
In Mobile ODIN Pro, use the Open file option & choose the extracted tar.md5 from N9005XXUGNG1_BTU archive (it should be in the Internal SD-card if you've followed the steps precisely
choose Enable Ever Root
choose Inject Superuser
choose Wipe data and cache
choose Wipe Dalvik cache
Tap on the Flash Firmware option & then tap on Continue to go ahead with the flashing process
You might wanna plug in your phone's AC charger to avoid any power shortage during this critical phase.
Let the phone boot up, use Root Checker.
Phewwwww..... :victory:
Your phone should now have the Stock Firmware which is Rooted & KNOX 0x0
You can remove your phone from charging now.
But, if Lollipop is what you desire to have rooted on your phone, you'll have to follow these steps too..
Upgrade to Lollipop N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO
Put SuperSU zip in a folder in your SD Card (external SD recommended)
Put Lollipop ROM (N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO.TAR.MD5) in your SD Card (external SD recommended)
On Mobile Odin Pro, touch on "Open file ..." load the TAR.MD5 file and confirm
Then touch on "OTA / Update ZIP" and select the SuperSU v2.46.zip
Untick the Enable Ever Root box.
Tick the Wipe data and cache box.
Tick the Wipe Dalvik cache box.
Tap on the Flash Firmware option & then tap on Continue to go ahead with the flashing process
You might wanna plug in your phone's AC charger to avoid any power shortage during this critical phase.
Let the phone boot up, use Root Checker.
:victory:
Your phone should now have the Lollipop Stock Firmware which is Rooted & KNOX 0x0
You can remove your phone from charging now.
Note : The bootloader won't upgrade in this method.

4/5 current Thanks for the OP are there because it works for them..
1/5 current Thanks is from one of the developers whose app has been mentioned here, Root Checker's developer to be precise..
I would be very very wary of using PIT as many brick the phone .
I flashed using the original posts that this thread expands upon but at the boot loop just flashed Modem NF2 and rebooted .

I did the "almost same steps" twice because sometimes (with these 2 Kitkat firmwares) the Bootloader won't update..
I used this instruction to root KitKat.

Apparently, you don't need to downgrade. Flashing old kernel is enough to use towelroot.
I'm already on N9005XXUEND3, rooted with TowelRoot with Knox 0x0.
Can I directly upgrade to Lollipop or I have to upgrade to N9005XXUGNG1 before?

I am still on JB - MJ3 (see in my signature). Rooted with Towelroot
Can I use this method but skipping the UEND3 ?
Also does this do the modem etc or is it just kernel?

Yes, you can..
It'll upgrade everything.. Though, if you choose to move to Lollipop in the end-the bootloader will not upgrade and it'll stay to that version of Kitkat upon which you'll install it (Lollipop).. :good:

Is that a bad thing or is it ok to have the KK bootloader?
So to be clear, I just go from "Upgrade to N9005XXUGNG1_BTU" with mobile Odin?
My region is UK which is a non-branded phone. I think BTU is the correct version for this (supports 4G)?
im on 4g updated to lollipop polish version using mobile odin i then installed lollipop bootloader seperate using odin knox will stay 0x0 too

Does this method of obtaining a Knox 0x0 root on Lollipop extend to other Lollipop ROM's, or only the one listed in the OP?
For example would it work with a newer ROM, or with the UKO2 latest release?
I literally only want root to be able to use Titanium Backup, having just had the pain of losing everything following an unintentional factory reset (don't ask!)

That's awesome!
Now... please excuse my ignorance, I'm such a 'casual' user, it's almost pathetic how unadventurous I am and how intimidated by 'warranty status' I am...
But...
Could you possibly explain to me whether there is any inherent disadvantage in me using this method over, say, simply having a stock unrooted Lollipop?
Does it create any inherent instability or issues that I should be aware of?
And do you by any chance know of a better stock unbranded Lollipop ROM which will work better or with greater stability than the current UK O2 offering?

None that I'm aware of..
EDIT:I mentioned in my previous replies that, the bootloader will not be upgraded to the one that comes with Lollipop if you upgrade to Lollipop with this method..
The difference is that in unbranded roms, bloatware is less than those found in a carrier rom..
On the contrary, a carrier can choose not to include some feature or pre loaded app from the manufacturer.. For eg-in the US, a carrier removed Microsoft Apps from it's version of S6 rom (you can say that the carrier removed some bloatware this time)..
Oh, I forgot to add... does it work with other 'KK' firmwares as the 'starting place'? Are there newer KK's that this method will also accommodate as the baseline to root and then install Lollipop and keep root and 0x0?

Root_Method_Rev_B/11_Bootloader_Using_Combo_Firmware

This is a root method for the s7 and s7 edge on bootloader 11 (B) phones using the combination firmware. I really dont think it will do much but I will post it and maybe someone will do something with itDownloads
COMBINATION_VZW_FA60_G935PUCUBATA1_REV-11-B_01-13-23.tar.7zOdin3_v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.7z
S7 Files Found Here
Instructions
This will repartition phone to be like Verizon S7 flat models and Verizon S7 edge models to make things more uniform. This will not affect the phone. If you have done this method before 10-31-22 and currently are on safestrap you need to redo the process from step 1 to partition the phone correctly.
1. Download and unzip COMBINATION_VZW_FA60_G935PUCUBATA1_REV-11-B_*-*-*.tar.7z.
Inside is a HERO2QLTE_USA_VZW.pit. Load this pit file in the Pit Tab in Odin and the COMBINATION_VZW_FA60_G935PUCUBATA1_REV-11-B_*-*-*.tar.mds in the BL slot in Odin. Under the options tab in Odin select nana erase and make sure repartition is check and then flash
2. Phone will reboot twice when done and on second reboot you wipe data and then reboot. Once phone is booted you will have a limited combo rom you just need to copy rom from post 2 too phone and reboot too safestrap. You can do this by using the reboot app and click reboot recovery or by manually rebooting too recovery from powered off phone hold power up + volume up + home button till phone boots and you see recovery rebooting. The other apps are not needed unless for some reason safestrap doesnt work then Flashfire is included to do the flashing
3. Proceed to Post 2

Combi firmware should flash over any carrier version as long as the binary bit matches, in this case "B"/11.
So after flashing the combi and SuperSU_System.zip in safestrap, will the phone have to stay in combi firmware? Is it possible to flash it back to stock without losing root?
By the way, just checked and there's still no engineering boot available for "B"/11 bit version.

I guess it might be useful for mods and servicing.
I just checked all my sources for a true eng boot for "B/11", but still nothing out there.
At least one can flash a combi unlike on all newer models which lock that down too.
I'm still rockin' my old S7 after all these years, it's rooted on "A/10" and works just fine for what I need it for (basic stuff). lol

yes this method doesnt gain you much but figured I would post it. I held off a long time because I figured an eng boot for rev 11 would show up but since none of this stuff is needed anymore to carrier unlock phones these eng firmware's and files dont get leaked like they did in the past

I am on a SM-G930T with bootloader B, tmobile rom G930TUVSBCTA2. I installed the combo firmware just to see if it worked. It did but obviously without normal phone functionality.
When a reverted back to the stock firmware though, I lost the fingerprint security capabilities. When I try to scan a fingerprint, I get a popup that the Home Key needs to be clean and dry. (But it worked perfectly just before testing the combi firmware.) Weird.
Have a coworkers S7 G930V and need to backup some system apps, adb backup doesn't seem to work (file is 47 bytes lmao) if I flash the combination firmware, do I have to wipe data or will data stay? My assumption is data must be wiped so thats no good
I am also curious about whether this results in getting the phone wiped - I'm trying to backup the applications from my old phone (the S7 930U with B/11 bootloader) with Titanium to put on a new phone since I can't receive 2FA texts. I've got my SIM Card with me, but my service is not functioning here in Europe and after spending hours with the phone company the only way for them to fix it is for me to travel back to the US for a few days to resolve it and return, which I won't have an opportunity to do for several months.
I did the the last time I upgraded, from an S4 to an S7, without any complications. It seems every year the process becomes harder and more convoluted.
