Unlock the bootloader. If the official unlock fails, try motoapocalypse.
Flash recovery. CWM is old, use TWRP 2.7.1.2 or OpenRecovery 2.09.
Flash ROM, gapps.
Don't be afraid of search. All of the information is available.

Then perhaps you shouldn't flash phones if they "go out" on you after flashing them...? Be happy with stock, it's not too bad on Motorola devices.

what about just rooting the phone then
Also the sidekick had a cracked screen after it fell a few times so i think thats why it went out

Also i am getting a storage space is running out yet i cant find any files to delete that are causing the low space

If you're unlocked, flash a custom recovery like TWRP or OpenRecovery. Then TAKE A BACKUP.
After you have a good backup, save it off somewhere and keep it in a few places so you don't lose it. TWRP will then offer to root after you reboot to system if you are not rooted already. If you're using OpenRecovery or want to flash your own version of SU, look for a .zip of your preference. Do you want SuperSU or SuperUser?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887727
The debate always rages on. Just chose whichever one you prefer and flash it. Of course this applies to stock, most custom ROM's will provide some way to access root (IE CM's method of clicking multiple times on 'build number' in About Phone).

I can't view your other thread with the XDA 2010 theme for some reason, but please don't crosspost - it dilutes the community effort.
At any rate, I used this guide to unlock back in the day.
There's also motochopper etc tools like that to unlock.

Hi arrrghhh. Thank you for the link, i manage to unlock the device. after that (as you can imagine) i tend to flash custom recovery then root the phone. However I can not flash custom recovery i dont know why.
I try multiple methods, also try to flash it on fast boot as well (fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img) however every time i reboot to recovery, it is always the stock recovery. do you have any idea why would that happen?
I am on stock 4.1.2 ROM from sprint.
Thank you.

Sounds like stock recovery is wiping your recovery being flashed.
After you 'fastboot flash recovery whatever.img', hit the power button on the phone to turn it off. Release. Then hold power + vol down - keep holding vol down until you see the Moto logo dim a bit (~3-5 sec).

[Q] Help needed

Ok so i need help. Take into account i'm a noob at this. I've recently rooted and boot loader unlocked my Desire S. All was going well until i proceeded to install a new rom. I fancied cyanogenmod so i downloaded it via rom toolbox and then using rom manager tried to flash CWM which seemed to work, then when i tried to boot into recovery a red triangle would appear and then when i held the volume down and power buttons together the menu would come up and i would select install from sd card and it would say error, then boot up as normal. Now this was yesterday and in all my frustration and tiredness i played around a bit and tried everything i could to sort the problem out but as expected, that did not help, as i now have an even bigger problem. Every time i try to go into recovery mode (via rom manager and fastboot) it freezes on the HTC screen with a white background. It also does this when i try and restore factory so i'm really stuck. Have i bricked my phone? It still works as normal if i take the battery out and turn it on, it boots normally and functions normally. Any help will be very much appreciated thanks.
As your hboot is unlocked, you have to use the fastboot command in order to flash a new recovery. Rom Manager can't replace your recovery.

I followed your guide and it all seemed to be working, i tried flashing it using fastboot again and the same error message came up, so i moved the .img file to the android-tools folder and still the error message came up, not sure what i'm doing wrong
you shouldn't remove the battery under any circumstances.....
Use fastboot command to attempt to reboot the device or try three button sequence of volume up & volume down then power button
What does your boot loader screen look like, versions etc?

i managed to use 4EXT and installed cyanogenmod, it's currently repeating the loading screen with the arrow and the android animation on the skateboard is this normal for the first time booting up?
First boot could take five to ten minutes.
If your htcdev unlocked then you'll need to separately flash the new kernel (boot.img) through fast boot

It's the right version of Gapps. I presume that you did a full wipe, cache etc before flashing?
There is a stable v7.2.0 available from here - thanks to Nexx.
Also, if you like CM7 as a base, you might be well advised to try out Reaper ROM by Lowveld. It's what I've been using as my daily for months and I've never had a single problem with it. So fast, smooth and stable.

First make sure you have TWRP version 2.3.1.0 or 2.3.3.0 recovery, if you have the old version it will brick your device when you wipe data. Next you need to download the latest Asus full firmware from Asus site. Go here http://www.service.asus.com/ then click on download, then type in search box tf700 hit search, then pick tf700, then pick O/s is Android, click on firmware and find the correct SKU for your region like US for United State, under neath you see a icon of a floppy disk called "Global" click on it to download. Asus site is slow to nagivate so be patient. Once you download the zip file, first unzip it to another zip file, then copy to your sdcard, then boot into twrp (the recommended version), then flash this zip, once done, you will lose TWRP because this is a full firmware with JB bootloader. You need to fastboot back TWRP, then use twrp to flash Cleanrom. That's it!! Just ask if still need help.
Well I finally got the asus website to download the file for me.. Chrome issue I guess..
I then got lucky when I flashed it because I have No Clue what version of twrp I have.. lol I just flashed it with goo manager so I am amusing latest. This is my first experience with these asus products.... sorry for the ignorance. (only moto and samsung devices in the past)
It says right on the NV flash page to not use it with post 9.4.5.30....
"'THIS ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE A PRE 9.4.5.30 BOOTLOADER"
That is what I had, now I have 10.4.4.25... um 9 is < 10 right?....
Even though I used OTA root keeper I lost root too, I guess I have to start over from here.....?
Thanks!

No, you unlocked right? read my instruction you need to reflash twrp then you can flash custom rom. You can follow instruction from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938129 start with section 2, make sure you download the latest twrp (2.3.3.0 goomanager won't help you here).
I am unlocked. I will have to use the fastboot method to get twrp again right? Is there another way? My computer has been having issues with ADT, since you can't just get the good ol SDK anymore....
I'll try anyway..

Eventually you will need to use fastboot/adb, so I suggest to get it working. Once it's working it only take a few seconds to flash twrp. In the future when Asus release another firmware with a different bootloader, you will need to do the same again.

How to apply OTA update on Rooted At&t One X

Hi,
I have this AT&T one x, (I m using on NON AT&T network), so cant have an ota update.
Looking at few forums, downloaded the OTA version on XDA (631 Mb)
Saw people writing, that just rename the file to update.zip and then go to recovery and choose install from internal memory.
That dint work for me.
Error: not able to mount sd mem
Then few people wrote to choose install from external mem.
That dint work either.
Error: not able to mount sd mem
Then saw few people saying that I need to root my device and unlock bootloader.
I dint that, and tried from bootlaoder to install from zip.
That also dint work.
Now saw, I few wrote that i need to be S - OFF.
Which I tried doing it, but i m not able to do s-off for myself.
Pls pls pls.... can any of you EXPERTs out here help me.
Waited like for AT&T to release the update, now when it is out, i m not able to make it through.
Your step by step instruction would be highly appreciable.
Be aware, that if you have the AT&T version, and you are rooted, then you probably have SuperCID (in fact, you must have SuperCID, unless it was already changed back). If you have SuperCID you must S-off (or return to the AT&T CID) before applying the OTA, or you will brick your phone!
I am not all that familiar with the process to install using OTA.zip (and haven't done it myself), but it was discussed in these threads:

Take 5 minutes to look around before asking "big" questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237

In this case , do i need to relock my bootloader and stock recovery?
If yes, where can i find stock recovery, i have deleted it.
By "i deleted it" do you mean you installed a custom recovery? If so, yes you need to get stock recovery back on.
Only way I know of to reinstall stock recovery is to run the 2.20 ruu. Since you're s-off, you don't need to relock; just run it.

I have already done that.
And now in case anyone needs help, i can help those people out.
Coz the method is simple, but it is not at all explained clearly in any of the threads.
It has come in bit and pieces.
I have noticed one thing.
That after installing the update and again unlockin the bootloader and rooting, I am not able to see "TAMPERED" being written in the boatloader.
Also, now when I am rooted and also have SU permission, I m not able to switch on my WiFi tether with the files mentioned in the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677261
The "TAMPERED" flag goes away when you're s-off and flash a new hboot.
I believe wifi tether is blocked on the new AT&T base. You can flash a custom rom on the 3.17 base and it should work.

How long does it take twrp to be flashed?

[Q] Sprint Root... Is it that easy?

Having been on Sprint's LG G4 (damn bootloops of death) and G5s for the past two years, I've been out of the rooting game for a while... I'm no stranger to HTC; I started with the OG EVO and went up through the M8 before jumping ship to LG.
I reeeeeaallly don't mean to sound like a noob, but I don't see any "Root" thread... I see all of the rom development, but no plain old "Do this, get root."
I searched the Q&A and News subs, and I found something that seems a little too easy... Do I seriously just unlock via HTCdev, fastboot install TWRP, and install SuperSU from recovery to have full root status?
Again, I really apologize for sounding like I just fell off a turnip truck, but the most rooting experience I've had in the past two years has been a couple of Kindle Fires, and those have admittedly been done with supertools.
I thank you in advance for any words of wisdom, and again, sorry for sounding like a boob (I swear, I searched the forum first).

I saw this after I decided to go with Magisk instead of flashing SuperSU, but still flashed TWRP... Would going without TWRP be better just to preserve stock recovery for OTA purposes, or is there another reason why bypassing custom recovery would have been better?

Ease of taking OTAs is the only reason. Then again, you can re-flash stock recovery (readily available for all firmware versions) in TWRP in a matter of seconds.

Thanks for your feedback. Tried it myself fife minutes ago. Well could have known it, as boot, recovery and system are the partitions that are unlocked for flashes when bootloader gets unlocked.
