[Q] How to add/create "how-to" popup at the beginning of an app? - Other Tools & General Discussion

I have a question about How to adding/creating "how-to" popup ("Swipe down from the top to exit full screen") at the beginning of an app?
I was just checking out Google Play Books app, when I opened the app, a pop "Swipe down from the top to exit full screen" appeared. I was looking for something like this to implement on my app.
If there is someone who know how to do it or any tutorial or anything like this, please help.
Thanks

Just use an entry in SharedPreferences.
When your app starts, check wether the key already exists, if not, the user (probably) just installed your app, otherwise he has used it before.
EDIT: So you have to save this key after having found out the user is new, so it won't be shown again at the next app start.

DQQpy,
I believe the question was not answered, as I also have the OPs question. How do I make those instructions and visual aids that will provide that experience to the user on first use?
Your original answer though is helpful, as it indicates how to see if this will need to be done or not, but does not fulfill the entirety of what was being asked for.
If anyone else can chime in and help, I would really like to be able to add this into an app I am working on.

Oh okay, and what do you mean with Pop-Up? Perhaps a dialog? Can't post link, just google "android dialog".

I want to make a make a simple app

Hi ,
I Have a very good idea for an app that is rather simple but very useful. It involves simply a Specific picture which you can zoom and pan around then there are a few text boxes I want included in the app to search.
For example , A route finder that is already on the internet. You enter the details on the box on the computer then the results come up. But i want the boxes off the website and instead linked to my app , then the results appear on my app. So a search function is possible via the application.
The problem is I am a total newbie to codes etc and haven't got a clue where to start in the least. The app is very simple and an experienced person could create it in know time but I am a newbie and willing to learn to create some useful apps to put on the market free for all to share.
Thanks

Have a look at the Android Developers website
Hi ,
Thanks for that , I've had a look but it is so so confusing :S
Oh yes , and if it counts I'm going to be using windows vista to create the app?? Is there possibly a beginners guide to creating these apps or what??
Oh yes and I have now got one part sorted (sort of) , I will use the image viewer already on the phone to allow the scrolling and zoom of the image.
Anyone got an idea how long it would approximately take to create such an app??

Best answer I could find, and it makes sense:
This isn't possible from an OS level. That share menu is populated by Android based on what apps you've installed declare they can open. You can look at the technical details here, but the end result is that without extra coding from each individual app to filter the results, you are always going to get the full list in whatever order Android returns them in.

Basically in the apps code somewhere it states that it has the ability to use the Share function, so it's automatically added. Without removing the code or removing the app altogether, Android sees the app and adds it. Might be something someone a lot smarter than myself would be able to write an app that manipulates this somehow. But from what I'm seeing it hasn't been done.
thanks man, its ok if just cant be done, everything has limitations...
Would it be possible to have a separate share app that lets you add options (like "SMS to Bob") as well as hide some of the defaults? That app itself could be registered as a "sharing" app (maybe sorting to the top of the list?) or could be launched individually. So a process flow could be to launch this share app, load up the gallery, choose the photo, choose the destination. And that process would be just as convenient as launching the gallery, choosing the photo, selecting to share, and selecting the destination. Same number of steps.

An app to delete Android hidden (key)logger ("usage statistics")?

Hi, i found out something in Android (Oreo now) that disturbs me a bit : it's basically an history of which app you opened and when. Even uninstalled apps appears. I stumbled upon this while trying to add some desktop shortcut with "Nova Launcher Activities", it appeared under "Settings". I'm sure there are other log like this though. I wasn't able to find more about it using Google. DO NOT DELETE this post : i think i already posted but it appears nowhere. Hopefully some people have knowledge about this.
Thread are going down quickly here!

Screen Capture with Web Address

Hi, I used to be able to capture (Screen Shot) a page I was on, and it also grabbed the Web Site address I got it from and attached it into a Text or Forum Post I would be posting or using. I didn't download any particular app to do this, it was something that was Stock. I can't seem to find this feature anymore for some reason. This feature might not be suitable to most, but for me, at certain times, it was very beneficial. Does anyone know of the setting or app that did this?
I was not rooted when I did this, nor am I now.
Samsung Galaxy S8+ for AT&T
EDIT: I searched for days for my answer, only After I posted this post, I was able to find my answer. It's the Android Operating System Screenshot tool But for anyone else that wants this feature, you need to open up Google Search & go to your Google Settings, Then go to General, then down to Edit & Share Screenshots.

[Bug/Feature Request] Opensubtitles require Authentication now

This "bug" was actually introduced by Opensubtitles. As some of you may already be aware Opensubtitles now (since 04/03/2020) require authentication to access their api, as explained in their forums (new user, cant post links)
Since this breaks a big functionality of MX Player, rendering impossible to download subs directly from the app, I would like to request a location to insert my credentials.
If this has already been discussed here before, please delete my post and just point me in the right direction, since my search hasn't returned anything on the matter.
Thank you.
Edit: I Just realized you can do this, from the dialog that opens up when you click the link. Just delete this thread, im dumb.

Thanks for sharing this here.
We would like to confirm that opensubtitles.org has recently changed their API policies and requires you to log in with your account before making any searches. In case if anyone is noticing the similar issue and having difficulties in finding the options to use your own account, please follow the instructions below to add your own account or register a new one.
1. Open Online Subtitles option
2. Tap on the opensubtitles.org link.
3. If you already own an opensubtitles.org account, then enter your login details and press OK.
4. If you don't have any, tap on the Register option and enter your details.
5. Upon completing the registration, you will get a confirmation email on the account specified.
6. Open your email and click on the activation link you received.
7. Once you activate the account, check the online subtitle search option again, and it should work for you.
We hope this information helps.
No account is needed if you adjust the keyword(s) search manually. You'll still get the not authorized toast, just ignore it. I'd like to see an option to change the subtitle portal preference.. I'll start a thread later for it.
