[Q] LOLIPOP to KITKAT downgrade help - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
had a question on if anything special is needed to go from lolipop and downgrading to kit kat or do i just flash like normal
I though i saw something about needing a special zip file in a thread but i just want to be sure i may be confusing it with the proximity zip or something
Thanks for answers

There's no such thing as a proximity zip. I think what you're referring to is the firmware zip. When going from KitKat to Lollipop you need to flash the Lollipop firmware and the Lollipop modem. When going back from Lollipop to KitKat you need to flash the KitKat firmware and the KitKat modem.

Strange, I have never had to flash the modem separately.
What exactly does it do?
I'm now running Lollipop YNG1TAS17L. I updated from KitKat to Lollipop via an OTA link using TWRP recovery. Should I still flash this Lollipop modem?

No
The OTA did it for you automatically
Please do not flash any modem on it unless you are facing issues with your radio(network connectivity)

I just tried what u suggested, but it didn't work. I am on CM12s and I want to try PA 4.6 Beta 6. So I downloaded kitkat firmware and two modems too ( the two kitakat modems with 'Full' prefix. I went to recovery, flashed the firmware, then tried to flash the PA ROM. It showed an error, like "can't go back to old version Nov from new version May". It also showed error in update binary script. Then I flashed the modem and firmware, and tried to flash PA again, but it didn't work. Please, help me. I wanna go to PA kitkat.

What error did you get when flashing the ROM?

@Heisenberg
See the pic attached. It goes like:
"Can't install this package (Mon Nov 3 .....) over newer build (Mon May 25 .....)
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/MODs/Downloads/pa_bacon-4.6-BETA6-20141103.zip'
Error flashing zip .........
Edit: I just flashed cm11 firmware before flashing pa zip. I can see that in the image. And sorry for the poor pic quality. Taken from my dad'a Desire 310

Alright, first things first. I can see you're asking the same question in the PA thread, please don't double-post, only discuss an issue in one place at a time.
Is that a themed version of TWRP you're running? And did you wipe properly before flashing? The error you're getting suggests to me that you're not wiping properly.

I did a full wipe: wiped system, dalvik, data, and cache. And sorry for double-posting. Was li'l impatient.
---------- Post added at 03:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:23 PM ----------
And yes, it is themed version of twrp, 2.8.6.1

I'm unsure why it isn't working for you then unfortunately. I can only guess that the wipe isn't working properly because the installer is still able to detect the previous ROM. It might be worth flashing the stock TWRP instead of the themed version as that might be causing the problem.

Okay. Will try the same procedure with stock trwp.
Edit: @Heisenberg[/MENTION] The same error with stock twrp. Have a look.

I can't see the text in that image. I'm not sure mate, does the same problem happen with other ROMs?

Woohoo! I finally did it. @Heisenberg PA 4.6 Beta 6 flashed successfully. What I did was just RESEARCH. As you said that the error has got something to do with TWRP, I searched for CWM. I then went into Philz Recovery thread. Just scrolled down for download links. Read this somewhere, "To flash older files, use recovery version 6.02.2- . Then I got the link to download CMW touch recovery version 6.0.5.0. And then the magic began. Wiped everything, installed cm11 firmware, and then installed PA. And now I am running PA. Anyways, thanks for giving the hint about TWRP.

Thanks. I just want this information to be available to all those who want to downgrade. Could you just update the OP.

I'm reverting back to KK.
I've installed the firmware you provided, and the Full-YNG1TAS0YL-modem-flashable.zip modem. Then I've installed slimsaber (4.4.4) and Zane's boeffla kernel from here http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/zanezam/linaro/bacon/cm11.0/stable/
The proximity sensor is broken, any fix my friend?

Hi, I have a xt1032, UL and rooted, stock rom and kernel, Xposed with TWRP. I flashed the stock recovery and also uninstalled xposed framework..still got an error message and update failed. I didn't delete any system apps but has some frozen thru TB. now defrosted and trying again. I'm on the T-mobile network (I thought it was cdma but I guess it's GSM) should my kernel be the174.44.1.falcon_umts.AWSRetail.en.us? because I noticed it no longer has the 'AWS' part..if anyone could offer some insight on that
So you didnt sucsess to install ota ? Why dont you flash stock rom maybe you have some errors in system and then update. My version is like u wrote (it was before update) xt1034 quote me if u done with flashing and get ota search on forum stock rom images im on phone cant find link right now .

No, no success for me yet- there are links up now in other posts for the xt1034 my friend. I think at one point I flashed the wrong firmware by mistake, cuz I definitely have a xt1032 and the version should show 174.44.1.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US but this pic has the AWS version for the xt1034 that is not right for the xt1032
Dude you dont know wich version u have remove back cover and see on battery then install US retail rom im post link in last reply.pm if something goes wrong im not at home right now .

No, you need to use fastboot mode to install stock firmware. it will wipe everything from the device. then you can install custom recovery and root. then back it up in the recovery. that is the only way.

yes you can revert back, because I have done it many times.
if your bootloader is updated to the latest version, you can still go back to 4.4.2 even if the bootloader is from 4.4.4.
you just have to skip this step
Code:
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img

Are u sure abt that?
Many people out there, they have half-brick devices cause they try do down grade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 GPE.
People say that the fastboot doesnt work and the partition is different

Of course I am sure. I done this myself. I am back to Moto stock firmware. I tried GPE but HDR mode was missing in the camera app.
and no Audio Effects (DSP Manager). But it is possible to go back to 4.4.2 from 4.4.4 but you have to skip the motoboot image file. that is the bootloader. you cant downgrade the bootloader.

I have XT1032 and you can go back to stock 4.4.2 for XT1033, because XT1033 has 4.4.4 update as well.
Why are you running GPE for XT1033 in the first place?
I have converted from GPE to Stock Motorola firmware and had no issues with partition. so obviously you are doing something wrong.

how to install 4.4.3 roms?

Hello? Yes, I'm a noob. I tried to read and understand, but was not able to.
I have bootloader unlocked and rooted 4.4.2 stock in my m8.
I want to install the 4.4.3 roms.
My simple question would be what are the steps to get 4.4.3 radio? installed
wait to make it clear you only want the radio of 4.4.3 or the whole rom ?
but if you want to install the rom you need to have sometype of custom recovery after you installed that (you can do it through rom manager app on google play)
after that choose your rom that you wanted to install and then just flash it using the custom recovery

You didn't mention your carrier, but essentially you want to update to the latest firmware first, then flash a 4.3 ROM. To get to the latest firmware you either take an OTA from your carrier, which requires being completely stock with stock recovery and no changes to system, or flash a firmware file that someone has extracted from the OTA package. The latter is imo easier if you are already on a custom recovery. The development forum for your carrier likely has a post dedicated to updating firmware.

Revert to KitKat from 5.0.2 firmware update?

Howdy, I've been running various Lollipop builds and ran the firmware update for bacon on my OPO over the last week or so, and I want to revert back to kitkat/stock. Do i have to flash the cm12 firmware for 5.1.1 roms? I have the OTA update and running on 5.0.2?.
Yes, Each 5.1.1. ROM thread states that you are required to flash the latest firmware (otherwise you might get bootloop, flash errors).
