?
I usually hate to shoot full resolution with phones because I think that the quality is not worth the extra size (less space available on disk and files are slower to open).
I have a very cute Fuji X10 which takes very nice pictures at 6mpx, which is more than sufficient for me, I even printed up to A3 size and it still looks great.
However with the OPO I found out that while shooting at a comfortable 2mpx (it says 13mpx max), the quality is awful. Shooting at max res and resizing gives you way better quality. So I was looking for a camera app reliable for shooting at resolutions like 2mpx.
I think it's a software problem. While shooting with Canons with chdk firmware, for any chosen resolution, the camera would shoot at full res and only when writing to the card it would resize the picture to the desired res. Do modern phones work like that too?
Another request would be, while shooting with lower res, having digital zoom locked without exceeding the real pixels. Are there app which do such things?
(English is not my first language, but grammar nazis are always welcome)

Hi all,
I recently upgraded to WM6 (file name is XDA_EXEC_WWE_20202_20307_11500.exe). The results were all good as I really like the new "glass" like interface. However, the camera now has a "2M" option which displays the resolution as 1600x1280 which appears to be one of the few 2meg resolution sepcifications out there. The pictures taken also have the resolution of 1600x1280 and don't appear to be stretched or skewed in any way which would be evident if resolution of a smaller pictures was increased disproportionately. Does this mean that camera's resolution is limited only by software? or is it some kind of glitch?
Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Hi,
The Camera CMOS is only capable of 1.3MP, you get 2MP by software interpolating. Basically the CMOS captures a 1.3MP shot and the software resizes and fills in the gaps by guessing what should be there by using complex algorithms to analyze the original picture.
If you want to know more search the Wiki......................wikipedia that is!

Yes its done by interpolation. Even the old WM5 camera app already has this option.
Hello i was wondering which is the optimal size for photos and films to fill/fit the screen.I guess you will say its 800x480 but if its so please tell me the best software to resize them. Thanks a lot.
P.S I searched around but for pics i couldnt find a resizer software with the desirable output size i am sure you know better.
Yes, the best size is 480 X 800 for photos (Portrait) and 800x480 for videos (landscape)
For resizing you can find MANY MANY apps floting around. But keep in mind that if the original photo doesn't have the right proportion and you resize it to 480X800 you'll get some distortion. The best way to achieve a good result is to resize you picture so that one of its sizes fits your phone, and the other size is bigger. Then, you simply CROP the picture to 480X800
Same rule applies for videos too...
Finally keep in mind that if you try to ENLARGE a photo, the more you enlarge it, the more distortion you'll have on the final image... Generally speaking avoid to resize anything for more than 150% as the final result will be distorted.
When you want to play video you can use the Video Encoding GUI. Works for me on the Blackstone
I have noticed that the camera pictures have very low size 0.5 mb my old nokia e51 pictures were larger... I had one app I can't remember the name, the pictures quality were much greater.. So is there any app that can beat the stock app??

You shouldn't take the size of a picture as a reference for quality. It depends on many factors how big a file would be. Speaking from my experience a wide photo is bigger than a zoomed in photo because it has more details to take in, a photo in a brighter light gives a bigger size, a photo with a lots of details and colors also gives a bigger size. Plus technology is advancing at rapid pace so you can't compare cameras on different devices from different times.
As alternatives you can try something like: Camera FV-5 (emulates a DSLR with many of its functions) or you can try putting on a stock camera from LG Prada or LD O3D Max (normally to have these you must flash a ROM) or you can look at here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502963 - a thread about camera mods on O3D
I also recommand some other apps that gives more functionality to the stock camera: Fast Burst Camera - takes like 100 shots in about 20 secs - good to make animated gifs, and Lapse It - an app that takes and wrap it up timelapse pictures into a movie.
Hey,
I copy three resolutions of an image to my surface: 6099x4066, 1152x768 and 1366x911
The full resolution picture is not as sharp as the other two pictures. Why? Also if I zoom in and zoom out in the full resolution picture, the image looks horrible. I need to go to the overview and then click on the picture again to the it normal (but not so sharp). Whats the problem?
I want to convert my photos to a tablet resolution but 768px is to small for the future and the full resolutions makes problems now.
Best regards,
neon
Hi, I dont have one and was just trolling on this section of the Forum as I was thinking of buying one, but it might be due to the picture having to resize and optimize to fit the screen? It might be but its just a guess.
Ok, but the other versions must also be resized and ony the really big version has this problem.
It could be because the Big one has to either decompress or compress to fit, can remember which. >.<
Being new to the world of shooting and compressing videos I wanted to ask you which is the best way to reduce video file size without major quality loss?
I am not an expert in videos and optics, all the info about bitrate, codecs and stuff is alien to me. As a simple IT whiz/programmer I want to shoot quality videos (let's say, on long trips, vacation, etc) with a smaller file size, in order to record more. I just don't want to bring my laptop everywhere over the world and store a huge amount of data on it.
As an example, and everyone might have heard this, but many full length movies (+90 mins) with 1080p resolution and quite a quality image have a file size of approx. 2GB. I just took a 6 min FHD about some fireworks and it came out 1,2 GB. That's way to much and I can't afford to store videos that large if I intend to shoot some more...
So any idea on how to save up space and shoot quality but lower file size videos might help me, and I'd be grateful!
Cheers!
