Hi everyone
I have an issue, when I'm on my office the network signal isn't strong so when my One S go to "NO NETWORK" after it don't go back to network.
When the situation is this I can't go to airplane mode, change operator (from settings), the only thing that work is shut down and restart (no fastboot).
Anyone else have this problem?
Maybe is a software bug?
I have the Paul recovery and su
EDIT: More info
That don't happen every time that the phone go to "no network".
I think that happen when it a weak signals and are under 2G network.
there are users with similar issues, I only use 2G networks. If i want to do a bit of browsing i will manually change to auto mode, but other than that i always leave it at 2G..
hopefully there will be a radio upgrade soon that should fix this problem...
I'm suffering from the same behavior!
I'm still with the original ROM with no ROOT so I contacted HTC about it yesterday.
I got today their reply today:
"On your phone, kindly go to settings > mobile network > Network mode, kindly change the network mode and check how the signal will respond to each of them.
-Kindly try a different SIM card, to check whether the issue is with the SIM card or the phone itself.
- Soft reset for the device by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.( Note that soft reset erases any unsaved data.)
- Safe mode(which disables any 3rd party application which might be causing conflicts for your device.) for the device by Switching power on , then press and hold volume down when the quietly brilliant logo appears on your screen, you should see 'safe mode' text written on the bottom left of your home screen.
- Factory data reset, kindly backup your data before proceeding with this step please as you will
lose every data on the phone's memory.
Please go to Settings > storage > Factory data reset > Reset phone."
I haven't done anything yet and I didn't notice the 2G issue you mentioned.
I also haven't got this issue for the last 48 hours but did encountered it twice (!!!) on Sunday while driving across the country.
I'll try having the Network on 3G only and see if that matters although the area I leave in is not with good 3G reception.
GSM is 2G
WCDMA is 3G
i use GSM only unless im using the net
I'm aware to the 2G-3G difference
I'm on WCDMA preferred so my phone tries to be on 3G.
My phone also suffers from the 3G<->H data connection jumps while the desire wasn't having any with the same provider (different SIM of course).
sorry, My bad !!
i understand what your saying now
I cant confirm much as my provider doesnt have 3g signals in my area
If i try to use 3g at my home, I have 0 bars thats why i always use 2g
I switched to 3G only (since I have most of the time 3G and surly wants it for the data rate).
I know I have on my way to work and back places with 2G only but I'll give it a try for the coming days and reply.
BTW, just few minutes ago, while having 3G active for sure (before the 3G only switch when it was still on 3G preferred) I couldn't make any phone call although I had 4-5 bars and data connection was running.
Two days ago I tried to change my sim.
Before I had a cutted microsim, now an original microsim and the issue is still present.
Yesterday I had this problem only in afternoon, not in morning and only where the switch from no network -> 2G -> 3G is very very frequent.
In all other times out from office I never had this issue.
I also changed SIM with no help, stayed in 3G network only with no help and observed that when such a network crash happened, GPS reception is also disconnected!
I had no coverage situations with the 3G only mode which recovered, but what we are facing is a network "crash".
Our situation was escalated to technical support of HTC after I wrote them all the data and they tried to solve it over the emails w/o success.
Same problem for me. I tried only 2G, 2G/3G, only 3G, but no way..same problem..i hope an update can solve this..
I just bought my new One S from T-Mobile yesterday and everything appeared to be okay but now I can barely get it to hold a signal. Forget throwing it on GSM only because it will have signal for a whole few seconds before dropping it. I also am having Wi-Fi issues as well. It just intermittently drops the connection there as well... Not a great start!
whether im imagining this or not im not sure, But for me it seems like, When the Network signal increases, the WiFi signal drops, And when the WiFi signal Increases, the Network signal drops...
ive been noticing this for over a week now, So it cant just be coincidence..
I dont think my (or our) handset is faulty, I just think theres a pretty big bug in the ROM, and no matter if you switch ROMs they all use the same base at the moment..
This phone has great potential. But HTC need to be listening to us and release some updates. !!

I noticed the same exact issue last night. My phone will go to full signal before dropping whichever connection. I'm just glad this phone can handle staying on 4G without draining the battery like crazy although I can only imagine how much further it'd go with 2G.

Exactly the same here. But I had a different WIFI issue - WIFI won't drop but stay connected - even if I am far away off the AP.

that one is also a known bug.
On top of that, WiFi will sometimes stuck at "error" status with no ability to turn it on...
All probably related to the same network chip driver or "Radio"...
I have same network reception problem. When I am in a poor reception area it loose reception all of a sudden and takes a while before getting the signal back. I often toggle flight mode to force network detection. I also think the reception bars don't reflect reality; sometimes it seems I have good 3G reception but cannot surf the web. I fear it is a critical bug. The phone seems unable to handle correctly signal fluctuations and protocol changes (GSM, 3G, HSDPA).
I'm colletting more data about this problem.
First of all I don't have any wifi issue, or maybe I don't see this.
I have a modem with N standard and one with G standard and nothing of this have issue.
About the network issue in this days I never have, only when I'm in office and the signal suck a lot.
Q: Anyone that have Tmobile/mod rom with 1.70 RUU have this issue?

I don't have wifi issue at work with a powerful 802.11n network AP but experienced occasional fake/unstable/disconnect wifi at home with a poor AP which operates on no-one-knows-but-definitely-not-N network. I don't really bother too much cos I can always turn wifi off and on to reconnect.
In terms of 3G/H signal switching problem, yes, a bit annoy especially when playing online game on 3G but accessing internet is fine just need to sometimes wait a bit longer.
I am on international unbranded version in UK.
I've the same problem in France about 3G/2G and wifi on international unbranded version.
i recently updated to 4.0.4 thinking (hoping) this would fix the problem but it has happened twice since... doesn't feel like it is happening as often but i can't sit there and stare at the bars all day either... my preferred network mode is always on cdma... NOT lte/cdma even though i frequently travel to 4g area...
more info:
in our house (non 4g area) my phone sitting next to my gfs rezound she will have 3 bars i will have zero to one but can make clear calls with no problems...
also, is there a program that monitors when we lose data signal so when i go into vzn i can show them the problem... the chances of going in there and showing them grey bars would be slim since it's random
i need some clarification... i see people talk about radio updates and low signal strength... was 4.0.4 supposed to fix this problem or is this a hardware problem and i need to exchange my phone...
there is some talk about bad batches... phones put together in china or korea... has anyone actually clarified this... my phone was manufactured in korea
Grey signar bar indicates that you dont have a connection to Google's servers.
Ok. Why does it go in and out? Is it typical? Is it a nexus problem?
Pretty sure when my phone goes out my gfs phone is fine.
Way to be informative.

I'm fairly sure it isn't constricted to the GNex as I have an HD2 on CM9 with the same 'issue'. However, I've always thought it's in some way related to background data. When this is disabled, the bar is grey, and when it's enabled it's cyan.
So, again, to clarify... Everyone with a gnex is supposed to have this problem and the 4.0.4 isnt going to fix it?
someone mentioned replacing sim card... has anyone else replaced their sim card to fix this problem
I just got a new xperia z5 and I'm using it on att but my phone signal is always showing zero bars.
I get data but incoming calls sometimes don't go through or go through after 2-3 rings.
The signal shows bars when I make outgoing calls but then disappears quickly thereafter. I thought it was maybe WiFi calling enabled but I don't even see that option anywhere in my phone and this happens when WiFi is off too.
This is a very strange phenomenon and can't find any answers anywhere. There is also a small circle with a line going through it on the notification bar, not sure what that is.
Does anybody know what's wrong ?
Small circle with line indicates "do not disturb" mode is active. Its under sound or notification settings, can't remember which. For signal status, check APN. Also, is your IMEI for this phone the Z5 one or an old AT&T phone? If AT&T has your IMEI for the Z5 it will register on their system as an old phone since they don't have Z5 in portfolio. I had to give them an old IMEI off a LTE device from AT&T because it was showing as a P series phone in the system and I was only getting 3G, no LTE.
Just noticed the small circle was for sounds. Thanks
I am getting LTE which is weird because it just not showing any bars on top but the lte works.
No one else has issues with their signal bar on their xperia z5?
This is really strange and can't figure out what's wrong with it.
No issues with the bars per say but definitely issues toggling networks, especially with 3G prefered mode. When 3G prefered selected I only get mobile data when H+ icon shows next to the bars. 3G, 2G and H don't work! The phone sometime takes up to 10-30 seconds to toggle to H+ and be connected. This drives me nuts! Do you guys experience this as well? Today I got no signal at all (no bars, nothing) for two hours.
Stamina is off and I have proper signal.
SFR France btw.
Try to toggle LTE off.
This sounds like an issue I had with a data only SIM in Japan with my S6, except no 2G network was the cause I think, not sure what would cause it on AT&T.

It's strange because I show full bars when I make an outgoing call or right before someone calls me, all the bars fill up. But it takes 2-3 rings on their side for it to ring on my phone.
And after the call it goes back to zero bars. But I still have the lte sign there.
Is there a way to update the gsm radio?
Same issue here (Z5 on ATT). I get one bar consistently when the phone is idle with the bars filling up when making calls, sending texts, etc., but I do get full LTE speeds and haven't noticed any other problems... I did look at my account, and the Z5 does show up as an "unknown device".
I tried changing APNs from "Attnextgenphone" to just "ATT Phone" but it didn't make a difference...

I am glad I am not the only one with this issue. At home I get one bar with wifi off and with wifi connected I get zero bars until a call is made or received.
I am located in NYC and have the 32.0.A.6.152 rom and the baseband is 8994-FAAAANAZQ-00029-16

Exactly the same here (FW and baseband). I'm in CO and I do sometimes get full bars outdoors, but it happens randomly... It's almost for sure a problem on ATTs end considering that they don't even recognize the device on their website.

Is there a newer baseband that we can upgrade to that will fix this signal issue?
Or de we have to wait till the marshmallow upgrade comes out.

Hi, it's a high probability that you are seeing bar fluctuations as you suggest because your phone is actually changing bands during this time, because the cell tower pushing your call etc doesn't have the signal strength to push LTE.
As for the OP if his LTE/4G shows higher bars as soon as he is using the internet this is a different issue, and strange maybe faulty hardware.
I would recommend you all go somewhere where you know there is good coverage, even with another phone if possible and see if you still have the same issue.

Mate I am not sure the phone suffers from signal issues, I have had most of the Z series phones, all have the exact same signal strengths for me at various locations, and the phone has better coverage than other manufacturers as well, when I compare to other friends in super low coverage areas
Hey @bigneeker,
Just wondering if the MM update has fixed your signal issue.
For me it hasn't, but if it did for you then it might be a region issue (mine was Singapore, but I flashed the MM update for Germany).
Cheers,

It didnt for me
I noticed it too. Sony xperia z5. I use the quick LTE toggle and when LTE is on, all my bars are greyed out, but when LTE is off and I'm on H+ and 3G then all my bars are lit up.

Same here. Also, whenever I lose signal or inexplicably switch to Edge, toggling the LTE switch off and on seems to fix the issue.
I compared the specs of the Z5 and the specific bands/frequencies AT&T uses, and the problem might be the frequency that they use on Band 12... I don't know.
I don't know about European carriers, but since T-Mobile uses a different band for its LTE, then that might explain why this issue is not that well-covered in the US (though I can't confirm that).
Cheers,

I have strange problem. When i use LTE I get full bars and everything works fine for a couple of minutes. Then I lose connection. I can not open any webpages, update Twitter or anything else. The bars are full and the 4G icon is there. If I run a couple of apps like LTE Discovery or Network Signal Strength, they both show that I am connected with good quality. But nothing on the internet works. I have checked the APN. It is correct.
If I deactivate cellular data and switch it on again, I have connection for a few minutes again.
If I set it to 3G only, everything is working fine.
I have tested my sim in my wife's iPhone and it works fine, no connection drops.
The phone has been laying around for a while. I just started using it again, but I can not get what could cause this behavior.
I am on Android 6.0.1.
Any ideas on what to try?
Possible loose connection inside the phone? Maybe a factory reset is needed? Is the phone being used with a case that could be interfering with the signal?

I flipped the back cover off and inspected the connectors. They are both seated. I am not using a case. Going to try a factory reset next.
But I don't see how a loose connector would behave like this, keep the connection for a few minutes and then drop? As I wrote I have full bars and both the apps I have tried show very good connection to LTE. Shouldn't a loose connector then show zero?
I believe those are wifi wires.
Is the imei properly displayed in the dialler?
Maybe re-flash the latest stock ROM in fastboot?

Yes, correct IMEI.
Did a full factory reset, but seeing the same. I have got full bars and a 4G symbol with no exclamation mark. I have connection for a couple of minutes and then it drops. Switching to 3G only makes the problem go away.
Going to try a re-flash, but I have never rooted this phone, and I am on original rom.
I see that there are two antenna cables, one white and one black on each side of the battery. Does anyone know which is which? Does 3G and 4G share the same cable?

I am at a completely loss with this. I have searched and I have found a lot of threads on several forums with a similar problem. In fact the problem with intermittent loss of connection seem to go back to the 5.0.1 days.
I have tried everything I can think of, but still I have 4G for just some minutes, then it drops. If I wait another few minutes the exclamation mark shows up next to the 4G symbol. Every "network checking" app I have tried shows I am connected to LTE. In the phones "about"-menu and sim information, it also shows connected. But it's not.
Toggle Airplane mode on/off solves the problem, until it drops again after a few minutes. If I try speedtest I get full LTE-speed before the connection drops. I haven't timed it, but it almost seem to keep the connection for exactly the same time everytime.
This has to be a software bug of some kind, but what can it be??

No, I have not. I will try that as well. Have to look around a bit to find out how.
Yesterday I rooted the phone and installed the latest Ressurection rom. I suppose that came with a new radio module? But the problem remains even there. I am starting to believe that this could be a hardware issue after all. I have ordered two new antenna cables and will replace them. But I don't understand how a faulty antenna wire could cause such an error. As said, it keeps the connection on LTE for a couple of minutes. Switching Airplane mode on/off fixes it for another couple of minutes. If I switch to another apn and back again the LTE also wakes up again for a brief time.
Switching to 3G only works fine all the time. 2G and Wi-Fi also.
And just to know when it says that is connected to 4g is it really connected? Have u tested the speed?

Indeed!
It looks a lot like this:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/o-UyGECxh2k
But having read the thread through, there doesn't seem to be an absolute answer to what is going on.
Tried downgrading the modem to the modem from 5.1.1. No change. Have LTE for 3-4 minutes, then it drops. Shows full bars, but there is no connection. After another couple of minutes the exclamation mark comes next to the 4G symbol. Toggling Airplane Mode on/off gets it going again for another couple of minutes. It drops even if I am using the phone.
Changing to 3G only, works fine.
I have ordered new antenna cables, both the black and the white, and will try to replace those. I don't have much faith in that, due to the nature of this problem. A broken antenna cable should not work for 3 minutes and then stop until reactivated by airplane mode. But, I have run out of things to try.

I am using Telenor in Norway. My wife has an iPhone 6 and I also have a Samsung Galaxy S4. They both work fine on 4G with my simcard.
I had a similar problem in new York. I have metro PCs which is owned by T-Mobile. Every where I checked they said my current APN was correct, but I still had the exclamation point. I ended up fixing it by changing my APN from fast.T-Mobile.com to metroocs. Have you compared the apns from a working phone to the nexus. It sounds more like an authentication problem rather then a signal problem. Or call your carrier.

So... the apn-settings are correct. They are the same as on the S4. I even tried a sim from another carrier now. It behaves exactly the same.
This has to be a hardware issue, even though I can not understand how it keeps the connection for a few minutes and then drops. Doesn't make sense at all.
I had a similar issue with Consumer Cellular (an AT&T MVNO in the US). When preferred network type LTE was selected, the Nexus 5 would go to “No signal” every 12 minutes for 45 seconds. This wasn’t an issue when preferred network type 3G was selected.
I was able to resolve it by modifying the APN slightly, changing the parameter “MVNO Type” to “GID”. I left the MVNO value field to its default value.
This issue started with Android 5.1 and I still need to set that parameter with 6.0.1. Experiment with that setting and see if it helps.

I tried that too today. No change.
But I have discovered something new. If I start streaming a radio station when I still have 4G, it keeps streaming. I left it on for an hour and it kept the connection the whole time. I stopped streaming and started surfing + facebook and it kept the connection.
When I toggle airplane mode off/on or reboot the phone it keeps the connection for a few minutes and then drops. Like before.
Now, this HAS to be a software error of some kind. It almost seems like the 4G radio goes to sleep after a few minutes and then it doesn't wake up again. If I switch to a different apn and back again, it wakes up.
I have made sure that the apn settings are correct. My carrier has confirmed that, and they are exactly the same on my S4, which works fine.
Does this make sense to anyone? What more can I try? Is it possible for the 4G radio to go to sleep and stay off?
Edit: Keep trying new things, and I have discovered that if I connect the charger when the connection is "alive", it keeps the connection. When I disconnect it, the connection drops after some minutes. This strengthens my theory about the 4G radio going to sleep.
Hi fellow Honor8 owners,
I have UK Honor 8 32GB model purchased from Vmall.eu/uk. I came from an iPhone 5S and must say I'm loving the device!
Only issue I have been having is constantly, the Data signal keeps dropping out and I am unable to recieve/send calls and texts. It completely drops out for a bit then comes back. This happens very often.
Is anyone else experiencing any similar issues? I have the nano SIM installed into SIM slot 1 .
I will maybe give the SIM a clean and reseat it into tray to see if there is any difference.
otherwise aside from that issue it's been amazing! One thing I'm really impressed is with battery, I am getting like 6 Hours Screen On Time on each cycle! and I'm not such a light user. Great for £260 unlocked!!
:good:
I also have giffgaff. This also happens to me mostly at home. I disabled Carrier Aggregation which seems to help, but it still happens sometimes.
I have the same and set the signal to be 2g only while at home, as I am using home wifi. I get many more bars when I do that and its good for calls and text only of course.
Its a pity we are not able to activity switch mobile data modes depending on our location without rooting.

So I tried cleaning and blowing in sim slot maybe debri but no still had the same issue. But then changed to carrier aggregation off, that helped a bit but still had issue often.
Finally resorted to switching to 2G for Calls and SMS only and I am mainly getting full signal strength all the time!
strange.. wonder if it is hardware issue or can be fixed via update?
