I'm one of many unfortunates who managed to flash the locked N8000 bootloader onto my N8013. I'm far out of warranty and have no interest in Kies, so the only real problem I'm experiencing with N8000 ROMs is some apparent battery drain when the tab is uselessly searching for a cell signal.
So, what I'd like to do is identify the components in a N8000 ROM that make it think it can have a cellular connection and remove them. I'm on the ragged edge of my technical skill and not sure if such a thing is possible, but it might be worth at go since there appears to be no way to get back to my 8013 bootloader.
Is this a realistic idea, and if so, what do I need to pull out of a N8000 ROM to disable the cell part?

At least that's what I think it was... I rooted, unlocked BL, and flashed a couple custom ROMs and radios on my VZW GS3. I tried JellyWiz, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid. I can't be sure exactly when, but at some point, I lost the ability to get a good signal.
I work in a basement where only Verizon gets service. I used to get 5 bars all the time here and was able to get 1X network coverage and stable WiFi. After rooting, ROMing, whatever, I couldn't get any signal at work (the big circle-slash symbol), was dropping WiFi like crazy, and at my house which is a good 4G area, I could barely get 3G and making a call was a hopeless endeavor. I would constantly drop calls, and the ones I didn't drop were so choppy that the person on the other end of the phone was completely unintelligible.
It should be noted that with each new ROM I flashed was a clean flash. I Odin'd back to stock everything to try to remedy the issue. Bootloader got relocked, baseband reset to stock, everything. I put this phone back to exactly how it was out of the box. The problem persisted.
I finally got a replacement phone and the problem is gone. Besides the fact that my VZW-using colleagues had signal the whole time, this new phone also gets signal.
Now I'm hesitant to tinker with this thing because I'd rather be on stock TW than have a phone that is non-functional at the two places I frequent most - work and home.
Does anyone have an idea what happened here???
Hi guys I have for almost a month buy a clone of Note II (GT N7100 ) MTK 6577.
It's identical to the original firmware 4.0 (in the info says 4.1 but it is not), but the problem is as follows:
I have problems with signal reception. The signal is very weak, and does not ever tried it on a phone identical (bought two) and the other does my card and conversely his card in my not work, so it's a reception problem with my phone.
My question is, is there a way to solve? Update firmware, change ROM, put the code in the PAD or tell me. I would like to work out why it is very important for me and I hope in you.
Thanks to all for your cooperation
I just reset the phone... other solution?
If i force network operator with the code in the pad phone?
Probably it's a manufacturing defect, my brother order a Note 2 clone(GT-T700) and the phone came with phone and wi-fi signal problems. Sometimes the signal come and go in both signals. My brother (using reference photos) opened the and saw that the phone signal cable was not properly placed.
Right now he is trying place properly the signal cable and he is trying to work on the wi-fi signal
damn ... to tell the truth even wifi and really poor ... do you think it is difficult to fix it?
Hey guys, possibly random question...
I'm currently on the RevolutionHD 8.0 ROM, but I had the same issue on the Redemption rom as well so I'm guessing its a fairly usiversal issue with ROMS..
I have an 8010 Note, so I have no 3G at all, and yet on these roms my battery drain is at least 10% due to "Cell Signal".draining it. Except... if there is no antenna or anything, it seems odd that its still managing to drain so much power, when this power isnt actually going anywhere..
Does anyone know any of of stopping this? I have already run the Revolution8.0's "8010/8013 compatibility" program, but it doesnt seem to address this issue.
Just wondered if anyone knew of a way to stop the drain. I have attempted to go into airplane mode, but this also shuts off WiFi, so this isnt really a solution.
Thanks guys

Those two ROMS use firmware from the 8000 which has the cell radio. All they do is some tricks to hide the cell icon and they don't seem to actually fully address the lack of the cell radio. I would just use a ROM made for the 8010/8013.
Hello all, this is my first post and also please move if in wrong place.
I have had a off the shelf, not locked to a network Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 for a couple of years now without issue except that it would take sometimes 5 minutes to join the Orange network and get a signal, other times it might be a minute, or then it might be on the network as soon as the phone booted. I just lived with this "little pain in the bum" problem.
I rooted the phone so I could remove un-needed pre-installed apps, to free some space, which worked, but I already had the signal issue before this so I don't believe this made it worse. Last few days I sold it on ebay to be told by the buyer that it would not connect to the network no matter what sim was installed. I now have the phone back with a view to fixing the problem. They basically were not waiting long enough for it to connect to the network, which is fair enough as it should connect quickly.
I have used the following sims, all connecting to the network eventually: Orange, O2 and Vodafone. - This is the same behaviour as before I sold it but just lived with it, but it is clearly a problem.
My findings are that when I first turn on the phone and *#06# the IMEI is null / null. Leave the phone and it will show the REAL IMEI which is printed under the battery and once the IMEI is shown, it will connect to any network. So I don't think it is a fake IMEI problem as it will find the real one. I have also always had a issue with GPS being very poor.
I have tried to backup / restore the EFS folder but it made no difference. I unrooted to the stock ROM before I sold it, re-rooted etc but nothing changes. The IMEI eventually is found and the phone works without any issues.
Hopefully someone will have an idea of where to start to try and fix this issue.
Many thanks in advance.
Woosh
I have also found that the baseband version is also not available to start with. Everything happens together, the IMEI number, the baseband version and connection to phone network all appear to happen at the same time.
I have just re-flashed to stock rom with no change to the delay in getting the IMEI etc. KIES also does not recognise the phone until the missing details are found and then KIES is happy.
Anyone?
Hello,
I have a problem with my OPO that has been going on for months now (I suspect it's hardware based? but not sure)
My opo can always connect to 2g network
My opo can only connect for a limited time to 3G/4G networks. If i change the network type, I get internet alright for about an hour or so. After some time or event (can't find a pattern), the phone is suddenly disconnected from mobile internet (even though data is ON), but my reception indicator is full. I also cannot place calls or get called: when I try calling, I get either a textbox "network unavailable" or the call attempt just ends on it's own without result. I'll call this state "fake 4g"
Here's what I have already tried:
-reboot, flash other rom, factory reset
-downgrade and upgrade TWRP back again
-messing around with 4636 (but i think i haven't tried switching to US band and back to EU - i'm from europe). Note: the interface shows precisely one cell tower when i'm connected to fake 4g
-going back full stock (flashing a version of cm prior to YOGPAS1N0) in order to update the radio. I even installed oxygen at some point
-pulling a logcat. However, this problem (other than the fact that i have only have a basic grasp of IT) is that I cannot exactly pinpoint WHEN fake 4g occurred without looking at the screen/placing a call. I managed to determine fake 4g came up between 4:55 and 5:46, which is still a heck of a logcat. In order to generate some logcat chatter, i've placed a few unsuccessful calls during fake 4g period (i've pinpointed those logs)
Does anyone have any idea as to the cause of this bug (not entirely sure it's hardware based because it works, well, sometimes...)? Or can anyone maybe tell me what to look for in that 50 minute logcat? I guess I can always have another logcat run in the weekend and check every 5 mins until i can spot fake 4g happening.
Note: I haven't opened it to check whether the antenna is plugged or anything (not that i would see much, i think). Anyway, i can always do it if need be.
Thanks in advance
I have been having a similar problem, the LTE range keeps fluctuating from zero to 3/4th to full from time to time, even when the phone is lying stable. Range appears well when on 3g. It isn't sim card based as iv'e tried various sim ,phone combinations.
Also i have noticed many topics appearing in the past few months regarding network issues ... some kind of a pattern ?
Ah yeah I forgot to mention that I tried the simswap trick too, to no avail.
So you're suggesting the hardware antenna might be of poor quality, that might be the case. If so, I suppose the antenna cannot be easily changed (ie incorporated in mobo or whatever).
Does anyone know whether antennae are prone to fail in general?

Nope.If there hasn't been anything that could damage the hardware,no.
Have you tried changing firmwares?

Even i am facing the similar kind of problem and posted my question here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/internet-issues-intermittently-unable-t3714911. One more thing to note is if you try tethering with laptop the internet works just fine (it happens with my device) . Even i have tried many combination with 4636 interface but i really can't understand the reason behind it.
Flash latest modem firmware... Then *#*#4636#*#* ..then on phone change signal to 3g only or LTE only..
Helped me from losing signal
