Rooting Galaxy Tab 2 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This thread is probably "not the same" as others...
Because I have a very specific case!
So I have a Galaxy Tab 2 - today I successfully was able to install CyanogenMod on it.
My tablet used to be P5113, now it's P5110.
(Galaxy Tablet 2 10.1)
Anyways.. That was just some information, now to the question...
How do I root my tablet WITHOUT deleting anything off of it and not having to go through installing the ROM once again
P.S If it is possible, where can I find the files for it? I have rooted my tab before, but it was a very long time ago - and I don't remember how to do it now :/
Thank you! Best regards, Dima.

If you ate on cyanogenmod then you can enable root from developer options

ROM Porting

I have Samsung Galaxy Tab II 7.0 (GT-P3100)
It came with ICS 4.0.3 upgradable to 4.1.1
While playing around with it, I rooted it, installed a Custom Recovery (CWM) and a Custom ROM (CyanogenMod 10.1), Android version 4.2.1.
Now everything is just fine except a few bugs that are normal in Nightly Builds.
I want to re-install my Stock ROM because I want to sell it and the buyer wants official stock ROM.
One of my friends has the same handset (GT-P3100) with same baseband version (P3100DDLG1)
The only thing that he did was that he updated his one to official JB update OTA (4.1.1)
He also rooted his phone.
Now, I want you people to help me, how can I copy his Tab's ROM and install that on mine.
I want instructions to be easy and porting procedure simple.
Like the way I install updates for CM 10.1
Thanks.

Wrong forum, my friend: you have the Galaxy Tab II (GT-P3100), while this is for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 (GT-P6800/6810/I815).
But the answer would be the same.. You don't want to port a ROM (that would be trying to make a Galaxy Note 10.1 ROM run on the Galaxy Tab II 10.1, for example: make a ROM run on a device where it wasn't meant to run): you want to "transfer" a ROM between two different devices. And that is quite easy. Your friend makes a CWM backup. You get that backup on your tablet, and restore that backup. Then you'll have the exact same kernel, system and data as he does. Then, you factory reset to erase the data, and you'll have the ROM as if you'd just installed it fresh. You'll probably still be rooted, though.
A more straightforward way would be to simply download the ROM you want from SamMobile and install it through Odin.

Thanks for the Answer Brother...
Actually I'm new to XDA forums, that is why I'm a little confused between "forums", "porting", "posts", "topics", "transfer"...
Anyways I know how to make the Backup of ROM in CWM although I don't have any idea where are the files stored on the tablet.
I mean when my friend creates a backup via CWM, where will be the "Backup ROM" stored (path)
if you can help...
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Doubts about rooting Tab 2 P3110.

So I am a total newbie to android, its roms and rootings, recoverys etc.
I had bought a Tab 2 GT P3110 with Android 4.1.2 and build version DDCMA4.
I had installed some apps and games but i now i require whatsapp on my device. There is a method to install whatsapp but it requires root.
Also, I dont like Phablet UI and I need Tablet UI. I heard that this can be achieved on the stock rooted rom with Xposed.
So, I need to root my device. I saw several forums but they give the method to root on 4.1.1 but I have 4.1.2.
Anyone who has the solution may reply to this post. I need a working method but not just a reference link to some other thread about rooting.
And last, what is CWM recovery and do i need that for rooting galaxy tab 2 3110.

It is the same method for both.
And no you do not need cwm to root. It is for installing ROMs and mods.
I'm leaving WiFi, or I'd walk yout hrough. Either way, i would be pointing you to the developer forum for the cf auto root thread.

I also had never rooted anything. I tried CF Auto Root and is an excellent method, rooted mine and my sister's in about 30 seconds. Really really easy.
Yeah.. It seems I never saw the FAQ for 3110. I tried the CF Root method and it was very simple.
I used the cwm method and would highly recommend it, so easy to use and simple to install roms afterwards if you want to
You should consider flashing a custom rom. My p3113 was lagging really bad because tw was so heavy and took up most of my ram. Now the tablet is running extremely smooth.

Which rom did you use?

Quick newbie question

I am trying to fix a tablet for my Auntie. It's a Galaxy tab 2 - GT-P5110.
I've tried recovering/resetting it, and despite it completing successfully, it just freezes on the "Enter your name" screen during initial setup.
I would like to try a custom ROM (or an updated original one) could someone point me to a ROM that is simple to use, and as similar to stock as possible?
I've done this a few times over the years on various devices, but I've always followed step-by-step guides.
Many thanks.

Hey there!
If your device were P31xx, you would have one or two stock-based ROMS. But I don't see any for P5110.
How about trying CyanogenMod 11? You could use a theme to make it look like TouchWiz.
If you want to use CM11, here's a link to the latest milestone: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655044317
Also, here's the GApps: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358560841

does it have tablet ui? because when you have the buttons in the middle it is kind of hard to navigate.

Google removed the TabletUI code since Android Jellybean 4.2.2, so you won't find it in any android more than 4.1.2.

Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T230: Fast Custom ROM for Kids

Hi guys,
Ive purchased a Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T230 for my 2 year old to use. I would like to have "kids mode" and a custom rom (slim & fast) installed which doesn't have all the "unnecessary" stock apps installed . Could someone advise me which ROM to install? Thank you very much in advance, also in behalf of my daughter
Kind regards, Rudi

Hi, custom ROMs aren't available for that device, and for me it's impossible to develop on it since it has completely different hardware than 8.0 or 10.1 variants. If someone has 7.0 and is able to develop on it, you could be more lucky. But now no...
