[Q] problem installing rom. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I installed CM11 a while ago on my Nexus 5. I had no trouble installing it through Cyanogenmods own installer, but now i want to install
the official rom again, so android 4.4.4 Kitkat. But when I want to flash it through TWRP i get the error that there is no MD5 file found.
I got the rom from the official site from Google.
I want to install the clean version of android again because i have some trouble with my battery and want to try if its still a problem with original software
installed.
So can you help me with this?
Thanks in advance.
Eelke91

When you after trouble shooting a battery issue you should wipe your phone and flash the stock image. Do not trouble shoot a battery issue with a custom ROM. Period. There are too many factors involved. And bugs can arise that won't be in a stock image.

I do want to flash to my stock image, but sadly i didnt backup so i want to manually install stock android kitkat.

You don't have to wipe internal. Just Data and Cache. Go fastboot a stock image. If you aren't backing up Your Apps and you aren't clean flashing ROMs, that's why you are having so many issues. Never dirty flash a ROM unless your ROM Dev says otherwise.

Okay, but im pretty sure I wiped everything trying to install stock android. Atleast i got the message when i wanted to reboot that there was no OS installed..
So if its still possible to fastboot to my stock image can you tell me how to? I've now restored my phone to CM11, which was the last ROM i had installed, so i still can use my phone but its not the stock
image.

The instructions to flash a factory image are on the same page you download the image from. You need to flash it with fastboot, not recovery.

Okay i flashed it back to the stock os but still problems with my battery so i think its broken..

[Q][GT-i9020a] How do I reflash back to factory?

Hi, new Android user here.
I was trying to root my Nexus S phone yesterday and I'm having problems. There is a lot of rooting guides out there and I used one from xda and also one from unlockr.com. Managed to root the phone ok (I think), but everytime I flash a custom ROM, the phone won't start at all, it just sits at the boot up screen and repeats itself.
So I'm thinking, I should just start over again. So I flash the stock ROM from xda back to 2.3.1. Everything seems ok, the phone starts up... but it's always stuck on airplane mode and the phone itself doesn't even show stuff like IMEI, mac address anymore.
So now I figure I've probably messed the phone up enough and need help lol. How do I go about reflashing the stock ROM and getting my Nexus back to out of the box condition (Stock ROM and no custom bootloader)?? Any guides or step by step instructions would be very helpful.
Thanks
Did you wipe before flashing roms?
Sent from my Nexus S c",)
Maybe flashing the KB2 modem would help that but the 9020a came stock with 2.3.3 and not 2.3.1 so that could be it...I'm not sure but that software wasn't meant at all for ours so it could be part of the problem. But if I was you I'd take a look at this thread wich has all the stock software for your phone. Make sure you wipe everything in clockework and then flash the stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13123996&postcount=39
dsixda uploaded the stock backup and the stock recovery, you can read more at that link, good luck hope it helps
You can download the full stock ROM from the link below:
http://goo.gl/8P8vl
Move the zip file to sdcard. Boot into recovery and flash the ROM. It should get you back to stock 2.3.4 ROM, all locked.

edit: well now everything is ok again, wiped data, flashed with CM7 and now it says 2.3.4, go figure.

problem flashing roms on moto g xt1032

Hi, I'm new to flashing roms and after installing CWM 6.0.4.7 on my xt1032 and rooting whenever i try to flash a rom it gets stuck in the boot animation. I have tried CM 11 Carbon rom and paranoid android. I don't know if I'm using the wrong GAPPS or what. Please help.
Gapps are not the problem:the same thing was happening to me. The real problem is the bootloader: if you are on kitkat, you have to revert to stock jelly bean (4.3), install custom recovery (for JB), root and flash the custom rom you desire. That's the only way that worked for me.

I tried o revert to 4.3 but when flashing boot.img it said hab check failed for boot and now when i try to boot up it goes to the unlock booloader warning turns off and repeats. I can get back to fastboot but when i try to enter recovery it shows a broken android lying sideways. I think i bricked my phone. I really need help
Go back to Stock and start from Scratch.
As long as you can enter fastboot you should be fine.
I too have suffered with this problem, today i have done as above said, reflashed 4,3 but when i onstalled the cwm 4.3 version i still suffered the same problem, so i tried the cwm4.4 and hey presto, i now have cm11 on my phone, yee haaa

Try this, when you get to the broken android follow the instructions in the link below for "external reset" this will reset your phone.
https://motorola-global-portal.cust..._detail/a_id/97329/p/30,6720,9050/action/auth
if that fails just flash a stock 4.4 image with fastboot using one of the guides.

Yes thank you so much I'm back on 4.4.2 You guys are great
hello everyone
I have a question about PaulOBrien superboot root method (look in modaco forum the moto g root method 1).
I have a 16GB Moto G and updated to Kitkat via OTA.
yesterday I used the method 1 (superboot) on windows 7, to root my phone, and run it for the first time and ended on a black screen with green bars (supposedly normal). I power off the phone and turned on and load kitkat normally and noted that the phone was not rooted.
y tried the method for a second time and have the same results (ended on a black screen with green bars), but when kirkat launched, on the initial screen i saw a message "System UIDs Inconsistent. UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable." and the system didn't respond.
I performed a factory reset via stock recobey and kitkat showed the same message but let me in the "i´m feeling lucky button" worked this time. there I noticed that my device was now rooted but non app was able to access the internal memory due to some r/w permissions as I think, because when I try to copy files to the phone via USB cable, I get have the same denial, even whit ADB push i get the same message of permissions denial.
I need a way to solve this because in this actual stage the phone works but the apps have like no access to the memory making them unusable,
for example i cannot take a picture, or download a file, for some reason all google apps not work or force close every time.
I need a way to upload a .img file to the phone in order to perform a recobery or to make a fresh install via fastboot, donn't know how to make the phone let me wrhite files on it. :crying:
(note: sorry for my bad English)

As long as you can enter the bootloader you haven't bricked anything!!! so don't you worry!
I have two questions: when did you download the stock rom, did you check the MD5 ??? Are you sure that it wasn't a bad download ?
Additionally: are you sure that you have downloaded the appropriate ROM? Did you try to flash any other ROM?

I am having the same issue. I got this xt1032 after it was OTA upgraded to Lollipop 5.0.2 and I downgraded it to KitKat 4.4.4 Stock. Now I'm also getting stuck on the boot animations on every Custom ROM I try to flash on it.
Does anyone know if having the bootloader upgraded due to the Lollipop update has anything to do with this? mine is at Ver. 41.18.
EDIT: I was finally able to flash after Formatting Data from Recovery. Keep in mind this will basically delete everything from the internal storage and you need to put everything back there manually. Always make sure you backup your info/apps/music/fotos before Formatting Data.

I have the Nvidia Shield 16 Gig Wifi tablet and Ive only had it for about 2 months. I wanted to unroot and completely go back to out of the box settings. I flashed the stock recovery, and boot. When i flash system.img it says insufficient space. Im really freaking out over this. I now have CWM running as recovery, but im stuck in a bootloop/softbrick. Ive had this with other tablets before but it was fixable, Im stumped with this one. I really need help here. Please and thank you for help, I need it ASAP.

So, basically you left your shield tablet without a rom installed? If you have CWM recovery, you could flash a Full OTA found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi...k-recovery-images-ota-library-guides-t2988881
It happened to me to. So I downloaded a Philz built in Jan (I googled it)**** and I flashed the full 2.1 ota.
You could flash the TWRP 2.8.5.0 found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58864006&postcount=90 and then flash the full ota.
Then, Im thinking, you could flash stock recovery. I'd recommend flashing TWRP though, I had a problem with CWM and I could not flash full 2.1 OTA with it.
PS: Did you try wiping system from CWM and then flashing system with fastboot?
****EDIT: I found the Philz I used: https://goo.im/devs/playground/shieldtablet/Philz_Touch-01-02-2015_14.18-TN8-WiFi.zip
but Ive moved forward to TWRP since I couldn't make nandroid backups with it.

Probably because you have custom recovery still or you are rooted.
The android red guy happens bc you are rooted (it'll happen even if you have stock recovery).
To system update, you have to be without custom recovery AND unrooted.
EDIT: Im theoretically speaking. I am rooted, therefore, I dont update via OTA.
i tried to recover to factory but i am stuck at system.img which dun seem to be copying into my tablet i manage to flash twrp in and wat else can i do to make it working again?

Having trouble reverting to stock rom on my shield tablet set to be killed

So when the whole shield tablet recall program started, I installed blisspop on my old tablet. Now I want to return that tablet to stock. I downloaded the 2.2.2 recovery image and tried to flash it off of a micro SD card through twrp, but I keep getting a error that's says failed to sysMapFile and nothing happens. How can I revert back to stock? And I picked 2.2.2 because I was worried about the killswitch, can I actually use the 3.1.1 image and then re root and remove the Tegra update file? When I return to stock rom, will I be able to reinstall a custom recovery but keep the stock rom? Sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty new at this. Thanks for the help!
Flash what ever you want in fastboot.
IF you let it boot make sure it's been factory reset, if it connects to WiFi your F****D.
From recovery delete the "TegraOTA" folder/apk from /system/app (or /system/priv-app, I forget). As long as you nuke the updater before it connects to WiFi you're fine.

Yes, you can also just flash the custom recovery from fastboot when you are installing the custom ROM. Or you can just not flash a new recovery at all. If you leave your current recovery partition intact you can still flash your custom ROM using fastboot.

would either of you be up to creating a potential debrick image for this device ?

Update Build W/O a Computer

Ok, let me start by saying that I'm fully capable of updating my phone with a computer, I'm just hoping there is a better way. So far every time I've downloaded a new firmware, update the flash-all.bat and run it, something will fail towards the end of the update and the only way I've been able to successfully update is by using one of those tool kits (forget which one, it's on my computer). I'm not that concerned about all of that with this thread. I'm wondering if there is a way to do it without a PC.
I'm on NMF26O (root, ElementalX, etc) and tried flashing Pure Nexus over the weekend. Since it's based on NMF26V, I kept receiving an error on boot about updating my vendor.img. So I downloaded that firmware, extracted it, and flashed the vendor.img in TWRP. That led to a plethora of other issues that I couldn't resolve by flashing the boot.img, reflashing the rom, ect. Several hours later I ended up flashing the boot.img and vendor.img for NMF26O, restoring my backup, re-installing Elemental, and rooting again.
Since these updates will be coming out every month, and roms will always be based on the latest update, I feel like I'll be pulling out the computer every month, downloading the updates, modifying the flash-all.bat, and running it through the tool, just to be able to update my rom. The first time I forget to update flash-all.bat, I'll lose the 60+ GB's I keep in internal storage. There has to be an easier way. TWRP is capable of flashing images. Has anyone been able to update without using a computer? I don't care if my radio is out dated, or something is mismatched as long as my phone works as intended.

Not sure why you ran into issues with PN. You need to be on the latest build NMF26U. You can flash the ROM via recovery. Then tku have to reboot once and go back to recovery and flash the V vendor image because the ROM is based on NMF26V. Each time a new ROM comes out on a new build you can flash in recovery.
If your talking about flashing stock OTAs via recovery that's not possible yet. No need to do this if you're going to be using custom ROMs though

I'm on NMF26O. What's the difference between it and NMF26U and why would the vendor image from NMF26V work with NMF26U but not NMF26O?
Seems like all you would need is the /system from the rom, the vendor image, and maybe the boot image (or a custom kernel). I think I'm missing something here.

If you install PN its based on NMF26V. So unless you are already on that then you would need to flash the ROM, reboot back to recovery, then flash the NMF26V vendor image.
I'll play devil's advocate here... Yeah there is an easier way, use your Pixel stock and take OTA's. Enjoy a phone that always works, with or without a laptop!
I understand my audience and realize this isn't a popular mantra here but I felt exactly like you did with my 6p and vendor images. I got to the point where I sacrifice root now just for my own sanity. My phone works for me, not the other way around.
What I do is side load the full OTA ( which you can get from the same place you get the factory images ). I only use the fastboot boot version of TWRP so that my stock recovery stays in place. Then all you have to do is boot into the stock recovery, adb side load the OTA file and re root. Then you're fully up to date without worries of your data being wiped !
( Although if you look in the flash fire thread from Chainfire, he's working on a version that will let rooted pixels flash otas like normal ones :fingers-crossed: )
I think you guys are missing the point. I have no desire to ever be stock, which rules out the possibility for an OTA in any form.
What I'm trying to figure out is exactly what is necessary to make a custom rom (based on the latest OTA), work if flashed over an older build, without first somehow applying the full OTA. Or is it impossible?
On just about every other phone I've owned, we could piecemeal the files needed for minor updates, along with a custom rom. The only time we'd have to flash a full update is for major updates ( 4 to 5 to 6, etc).

Ok, I figured it out. Just download the OTA.zip (not the full firmware), flash in TWRP, immediately flash TWRP again, and reboot.
I'm now on nmf26u.

I don't think we can just flash OTAs in twrp yet. Haven't heard of Antone doing it. There is a beta Flashfire out that I guess works to flash updates. J have it but haven't needed to try it cause I'm running PN and DU

I've done it several times tonight. Went from O to U to V, flashed Pure Nexus, screwed up the rom, restored to O, then O flashed back to U and V.
Just flash it like a rom in TWRP RC1. Make sure you flash TWRP again before rebooting if you want to keep it.
