[Q] Photos not visible in USB > MTP that was visible before. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i first got my One Plus One, I was able to connect it directly and all my photos were visible in the path
Computer\One Plus One\Internal storage\DCIM\Camera
Now when i connect my Phone via USB, I go to DCIM and then it takes a Long long time to refresh and at the end, i see nothing.
Just a Folder called Local Disk and the Windows explorer keeps working (I see the green progress on the address bar)
So today I discovered that if I change the USB settings from MTP to PTP, i get the Camera Photos but nothing else.
Question :-
- Why is this behavioral change ?
- Is this expected ?
- Any way to make One plus one File Transfer Faster ?

I loose app and apps icon every time connect to pc

every time i connect my phone to pc and chose usb drive, setting profile ( app) disappear and my home page icons change to android icon. can any one seen issues like this ? please advise.
I would suspect the ones disappearing are installed on your sd and as such are not accessible when the card is mounted.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Make sure your default connection type isn't "disc drive". To do this, do the following:
Menu-->settings-->Connect to PC
Set it to charge only or anything other than disc drive. You can also have it ask what type of connection to make everytime you hook up to your computer.
Thanks guys. it fixed it.

Fixing the optimus 3d usb mass storage issue

Hello, I have been turning mad lately since my Optimus 3D began acting weird once I connected it to my PC to transfer large amounts of data in USB MASS STORAGE mode.
In the beginning, the transfer was ok and connection didn't show any problem. However, at a given (arbitrary) point, it just connected and disconnected by itself several times in just few seconds.
I thought it was the usb cable, so I changed it, but that didn't fixed it. Then I tried it with several other computers, and that happened randomly on all of them.
Then I thought it could be the micro-usb connector being damage, but as I closely analysed it in the computer side, I found that the phone was connecting ok, but was recognised the wrong way. (drivers were ok, as I reinstalled everything several times)
In fact, the LG update recognised the phone's model and connection. It simply didn't worked as a mass storage usb device.
I spent hours searching the web for answers about this issue, but the only thing I could found was one guy telling to remove the battery for 10 minutes in order really reset the phone's usb mode.
I did it and it worked! HOWEVER, the issue reapeared quickly once I connected the phone to the PC via USB. (it took several minutes to happen, but happened)
I finally found this forum and read a lot of complaints about LG phones.
However, it seemed to be a software error, not a hardware one. Wich was good news.
I was thinking to send the phone to LG for repair, but I had little hope they would even check such an arbitrary issue with usb connection and I thought they would simply say it's my computers fault, so I kept searching.
I finally found a similar issues with Galaxy S2 on the forums, and someone fixed it accessing the "PhoneUtil" hidden app in that phone.
This app don't exist in LG phones, but there IS a hidden menu to fix this, but you will have to install a free shortcut creator app form the market place in order to access it:
- download "ANY CUT" from the market place
- run it and create a NEW shortcut
- select ACTIVITY
- scroll down and tap on: com.lge.hiddenmenu.port_setting.PortSetting
- give the shortcut a short name like "Port Setting"
now you have created a new shortcut in your home screen (somewhere)
Once you tap on it, a menu will pop and let you choose the type of connection to be used by the USB port.
By default, "NO RETENTION" is selected.
If you want to force the phone to use the usb connection for data transfer with your PC, then select AP USB
(if you check the "retain AP USB after reboot" it will freeze your phone and you will have to long press the power button to shut it down, but it will actually work and will be set this way until you change it again)
Voila! That fixed my LG P920 Optimus 3D USB transfering issues.
If you need to make a software upgrade at some point instead of using it for USB transfer, just change the setting to "NO RETENTION" again and check the "reatin after reboot" option.
I just wanted to share this, as I found no fix for my problem in the net and I think this should be happening to someone else.
Feedback is very welcome! (even needed, just in case this is braking something)
By the way, it's a good idea to activate the "Debugging mode for USB" in settings/applications since it seems to make a more robust conection with the phone for mass storage transfer.
As why this entire issue is happening, it seems the USB conection can handle multiple transfer modes. One of those is USB Mass Storage mode (like every pendrive out there) but the other one is a LG propietary comunication mode that I suppose was done in order to have full access to the phone firmware through the computer.
The bug appears in the moment when the phone have to decide if it should engage on mode or the other.
I have noticed (since I forced the port setting to AP USB) that the phones screen will turn itself on randomly once connected and that it don't stay active even if you specifically check that option in the development menu.
I suppose the original bug is still there in someway, but at least it will not ruin the data transfers.
Ok, just in case you don't want / can't make the shortcut for the hidden menu, you can use this method to access the full hidden menu right out of the box without any external app:
push the button to make a call,
now enter the number:
3845#*920#
This will redirect you to the full hidden menu. Once there, you can go to the PORT SETTINGS menu and set it to AP USB.
And if you want to upgrade with the LG software, you must set this to AP USB and make it stay. Then when you are upgrading, you must stay vigilant and press (and keep pressed) the volume up button in the moment it reboot the phone (or before it reboots, just to be sure)
This way, a white screen with red text "factory upload" will show and upgrades will have no problems.
(this mode normally only happens when you press the volume up button with the phone off, and then connect it to the usb port and there is an LG software commanding the phone via usb)

Nexus 5 with Android 6, can't access phone contents on Win 7 pc

Hi,
I recently installed the OTA Android 6 update.
All seems fine, except today I wanted to copy some of my photos off the
phone and put them onto my PC. But when I connect the phone to the pc
all it shows is the icon of the Nexus 5 but does not show any folders nor files!
Does anyone know if there is a hidden setting somewhere that I have to
enable or is there something else I need to do?
BTW, I have my phone unlocked (not rooted) when I connected the phone so it is unlocked
while connected to the PC via the USB cable.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ok after a lot of googling I have managed to find out how to do it, see below.
Swipe down the top notifications window on your Nexus, the device must be plugged into the computer, there should be a persistent notification banner showing for USB Mode. Mine stated "USB for charging", touch for more options.
So I touched it an it then gave me the following options:
Use USB for
(o) Charging only
( ) Transfer files (MTP)
( ) Transfer photos (PTP)
( ) MIDI
So I selected "Transfer files (MTP) and it then showed up in Windows
I hope this helps out others who are having a similar problem.
It just seems strange there is not an option to change this in the main Settings menu
under "Storage & USB" !?! I wonder why the developers did not put it there?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10 point 1 - migrating files using the USB

I'm trying to migrate .mp4 files from a friend's Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10 point 1 - Model GT-P51137ssxar tablet to my desktop PC running Windows 7.
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct sub-forum but would appreciate your help locating the correct forum, please?
It was suggested to download drivers if the USB is not recognized but in this case the USB is recognized so I've skipped to the part where it suggests going to the tablet's “Settings” option in the menu accessing “Applications” from there and selecting “Development”. This will give you the “USB Debugging” option.
I found Settings but nowhere is “Applications” listed. I just see an App Manager and when that opens it justs lists downloaded Apps.
I don't see any “Development” so I'm not sure how I can reach the place where Debugging is done.
I can Bluetooth smaller files but the mp4 files are too large to Bluetooth which Is why I'm trying to use the USB chord but Windows Explorer does not see any .mp4 files on the tablet even though on the tablet screen it lists ( 75) files in the "Camera" section.
Thank you so much for your help and understanding.

You have to go to settings - about - then tap on build 7 times. The developer will appear in settings-developer there you can enable usb debugging.
What mode are you connected to the pc? Is it camera mode?
Try MTP media transfer and the pc will find all. Good luck
Hi Billy,
Thank you for posting.
I clicked on Settings and scrolled all the way down and I only have "About this device", no just plain "About". I clicked on "About this device" but I do not see the word "build" anywhere in there.
Could ti be located under another heading?
Once I click Settings I see a multitude of listings - Data Usage, Display, Sound, Storage, Cloud, Developer options.
I clicked on Developer options and saw "Build Number" and tapped that and it displayed that developer mode was already turned on.
What would you suggest I try next?
Thank you!
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10 point 1 - migrating files using the USB
Hi Billy,
I just conducted a little experiment. I copied an .mp4 file on my Windows 7 PC with one Windows Explorer window pane open and then with another Windows Explorer window pane one right next to that pane I pasted that .mpo4 into a folder on the Samsung marked "Camera" and it's in there.
Then, with the mouse, I dragged that .mp4 in the "Camera" folder on the Samsung back over to a different folder than where that .mp4 was on my PC and it dragged over perfectly.
That seems to suggest that my .mp4 files are *may not be* located in that "Camera" folder on the Samsung but rather in another folder.
Unless, Android does what Microsoft does which is have hidden folders on by default which you then have to uncheck in Windows to see certain folders and files. I have no experience with Android.
I assiduity opened every folder I could see on the Samsung but never saw any .mp4 file. I then did a Windows Explorer search of the entire Samsung for any file named .mp4 and it found nothing.
Yet, when I Bluetooth it finds .mp4 files but I have no idea where it finds them on the Samsung.
Thanks for your additional suggestions.

I think you are connected to the pc in camera mode via the usb cable
See, when you connect your tab to pc via a usb,
You will get in your notification bar of your Samsung tab "usb connected to pc" , you should check that option there should be 2 or 3 options, one is media transfer(mtp) , second is camera mode and third is charge only(maybe different in your case)
When you select media transfer, the pc detects the phone Internal as well as external sd card and it will be in "my computer" listed as your model name with all the files and you can copy and move it in that mode. If you're seeing it in "camera mode" it will be showing a camera icon. In that case the pc only detects the media under DCIM camera folder. It won't show all your files in that mode other than that folder Cause the pc treat it as a digital camera.
Hope this helps and you get an idea how android works and don't forget to keep the tab unlocked while connecting. It won't show anything unless unlocked
Hi Billy,
When I turn on the tablet and connect its USB chord to the PC a message on the tablet appears ups saying “connected by camera”.
I never get a choice of how to connect to the PC so when I import all the files in DCIM>Camera I just get .jpgs, no .mp4s or even a list of .mp4s.
Is there a way to access some area on the tablet and change it so that media transfer (mtp) becomes an option?
There’s noting in the manual about this.
Thanks.

You get option to change after you connect the usb,
You just have unlock your tab, swipe down notifications, tap on the message connected to camera, it should show both the option to switch between camera mode and mtp, in camera mode, it won't work my dear.
Yes there's no manual indeed, but people here are probably good at helping each other out
I don't get any options when I connect the usb cable. None. For a second I see a pop which says "connecting to camera" and that's it. Nothing else happens. I don't know which "tab" your referring to? Is there a tab up top like in Windows (e.g. File\Edit\View)? There is no Notifications on screen. I see an icon for Settings | Polaris| Contacts but no Notification. Need I enter Settings and change something Thanks.?

USB will charge phone but not transfer file

I have a UL40 cell phone and a home PC. I download onto my cell phone then save what I want to keep on my desktop. I have been doing this for years. Today my cellphone stopped doing it. Charges fine, but can't open it to save to other computer. Changed cable, didn't work, rebooted, nothing. I googled the problem but the advice for settings/mtp aren't working on my model. Will I need to factory reset it or time to get a new phone? Thanks.
There is an icon in the shape of a circle from the top bar.
Get the menu from the circle shaped icon to stay open and discovered a USB menu setting choices.
Charge this device
Transfer Files
Transfer Photos (PTP)
Use this device as MIDI
Choose "Transfer Files" you will be able to access the UL40 from the PC.
