[Q] Lollipop, a nightmare of issues! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I'm trying to flash lollipop on my nexus 5 but every time is a pain!
If i flash a rom with gapps included, all ok.
But if i try another rom (im testing optipop now) with pa gapps i reach a message "setup wizard has stop working" and i can't do nothing. the screen is black.
If i dont flash gapps, i reach a black screen with no status bar and navbar and after i press a button i'm gone, i can't do nothing else because i don't have the navbar
any advice? this is a really nightmere, kk was fine and easy! why seems this isn't working just for me ?

Try these Minimal Gapps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-google-apps-minimal-edition-t2943330
Is your TWRP recovery up-to-date? Do you wipe system+cache+data+dalvik cache before booting to OptiPop? Do you flash mods?

Clean flash

i've done eeeeverything! seems a problem with the optipop because liquid smooth now work like a charm, (with same gapps)

Nothing wrong with optipop, installs and works fine, like said above clean install.
Seen some issues with twrp on a few ROM forums, I don't use it (philz) so I have no issues.

TWRP is the only recovery which is still supported. The one to use for Lollipop.

[Q] Lollipop, a nightmare of issues! - wrong title here.
It should be: Lollipop custom roms - a nightmare of issues!
Stock one do it just fine.

Sorry, not a fan of twrp, I will continue to use philz, works with every lollipop rom out there, and yes, I have tried every rom in the rom forums more than once, til it stops working, I won't switch . Choice is good.

Can I install CyanogenMod 10 with TWRP?

Hi,
I have currently 4.5 CleanRom, and I used TWRP to install it, but I want Jellybean on my phone, can I just use TWRP to install CyanogenMod 10 with it? or do I need another installer of roms like CWM Recovery?
thanks.

of course you can, but if you're on a newer Hboot, you will need to boot the rom through fast boot with boot.img
but of course.

I already have TWRP installed and I know how to access it on fastboot, the only reason I asked why is because I have seen some rooms not working properly with CWM Recovery, so I didnt know if there was any problem the other way around with roms like Cyanogen.
Thanks!
your good to go with twrp, i recommend updating to twrp 2.3.1.0
Will the CM nightlies flash normally on the old hboot?

they should but if you have any problems go into bootloader and run this command "fastboot erase cache"
are you using twrp 2.3.1.0?
Bootlooping CM10 on Telstra One XL
Hey guys been trying to work this out for the last 20 hours.
Now i followed the very good guides to put TWRP on the phone that worked fine tried to load cm10 latest nightly rom on kept bootlooping. so decided to give another rom ago.
used viper and it worked fine.
wanted to try and get cm10 working
So i have twrp 2.3.1
And latest cm-10-20121102-NIGHTLY-evita.zip
i wipe system, factory default cache. and the other cache.
go and install the rom all looks good, wipe caches and reboot.. than goes to the cool cm10 logo and loops there for AGES like 30 mins than i power cycled it and tried over.
with no working cm10 there i looked around and followed a guide to fastboot a new boot.img on from out of the cm10 zip.
this looked like it was going to work but still reboot and bootlooping.

try this.
1.) Download the 10/27 build
2.) get the boot.img from this build
3.) wipe cach/dalvik and system
4.) install 11/2 nightly
5.) flash the 10/27 boot.img
6.) reboot
This worked for me, something with the 11/2 and 11/1 boot.img was keeping it from booting.
Good luck

I would only recommend TWRP with CM10, or any other ROM.
Problems with CMW are due to the fact that it never officially supported our device, and was just a port. TWRP has no such issues.

[Q?] Rebooting issues

Ok so I have quite a strange problem. Whenever I try to reboot my phone, either from holding the power button and choosing the "reboot" option on the screen, or by turning the phone off physically, and then turning it back on, my phone does not boot. When I try to turn it on, it shows the Samsung image, and then the screen turns black and nothing happens afterwards. The only way I found around this, is that I have to put my phone into recovery and then do a factory reset.
Currently, I'm running BeanStalk v4.3.1009, but I've also flashed the latest version of Slimbean and the samething happens. I used Odin to flash back into the stock Rogers GB firmware and I've gotten the phone to successfully reboot.
I then flashed Beanstalk and I was again unable to successfully reboot the phone.
Any ideas what's going on? I'm using TWRP v2.5 and then updated to v2.6 after going back to the original Rogers GB firmware, if that matters.

This is the problem.
Should I be using CWM? I updated to TWRP 2.6.3 and flashed the roms, but I'm still getting the same issue when trying to install the latest version of Slimbean/Beanstalk. The problem doesn't occur if I try an older version of Beanstalk though.
Oh well, I'll just stick with the version that's working for me.

Can someone explain what's technically wrong with twrp 2.6.3 I've flashed a ton of these 4.3 Roms without issue. Why is everyone saying it's bad?

ROM Flash Gone Wrong

Okay, so I'm pretty conflicted/concerned. So I guess I should explain how I ****ed this up. Well, I was pretty tempted to flash PA Beta 4.6, it really looked good to me. But having not flashed on my Nexus 5, I didn't have a custom recovery, so I installed flashify and TWRP and set it up. Went well. Then I downloaded PA Beta 4.6 and also flashed it, took a bit, but I got it to work. All is good right? Well, I was confused at the lack of Google Apps (Play Store, Youtube, G+, you know). So I went into the recovery and wiped my data and tried to flash again. Only problem is, I accidently also erased the download for PA Beta 4.6. So, I get home (I was doing this all at school) and try to flash the factory images for 4.4.4 Hammerhead. But I cant seem to get it to work. When ever I use fastboot and flash the images, I end up with either 1. Non stop Google screen when I boot up, or 2. A picture of an Android with his front hatch opened and a red triangle with an exclaimation mark. What do I need to do? Please help!!
The android on his back is the stock recovery. Just hit vol up and do a factory reset. That'll fix your problem of booting

You have to flash google apps aka gapps separately after flashing the ROM

This. And don't flash custom firmware without PC access.
if TWRP is still working I would use ADB or FASTBOOT to push the PA Beta 4.6 ROM or another rom to your phone and then use TWRP to install it... sounds like you just wiped your SD card so move the ROM you want back to the phone and try try again.... GOOD luck hope everything turns out!

Installing multirom through the app
Hi guys, I've used the whole morning to read through all 100+ pages today. Now i'm back home and i'm ready to install this. But then I found out on the OP that it states that "You can install it either from MultiROM Manager app or from this guide".
Now im wondering if it means that i could just install the app through google play and its done? So i do not need to go through flashing it through recovery, modify recovery? just patching the kernel?
EDIT: i think i actually did it successfully already. Thanks for the great work 1
My personal cm11 builds, using no modifications won't boot using multi boot. Do I need to include something extra?
You need to use a patched kernels like ak kernels

As Whatsapp verifies your device (and rom) you'll have to verify your number every time you boot into another rom!
WhatsApp won't synchronise all your messages. (I'm pretty sure, the ones you wrote won't show up)
Edit:
Die anyone managed to install Dirty Unicorns as a secondary rom? Mine doesn't boot :/
Ok so i've run into some alarming problem (by alarming i mean that i haven't found i solution and that i can't boot)
So after I rooted my phone (TWRP installed) i decided to install multirom, i folowed the procedure. Custom TWRP is installed and running, the boot menu is working perfectly, and i havce the custom kernel, only problem is, i haven't any secondary rom installed, and i can't boot to primary (black screen for 2-3 minute then reload multirom boot menu)
Does any one have any idea of what i can do to try to fix this ?
ETA: I managed to boot to main rom again by flashing CM11s from the OPO toolbox, device ended up not rotted and iv'e got Cyanorecovery (default one) and default kernel.
After some test i'm sure the kernel is the source of the problem, i can easly get the recovery but everytime i try to install the kernel the phone won't boot or bootloop.
So essentially the kernel downloaded from the app doesn't seem to cooperate

Multirom work fine with Lolipop
I just flash Lolipop on my opo and it work fine, but if i flash it in secondary it cannot work.. So first I flash it as secondary, after complete of flashing I swap the internal ROM with the L ROM.. After L ROM become internal ROM I wipe it again then I flash all the file again.. Then it work fine, even I change the L ROM to secondary it work fine.. but my primary ROM cannot boot.. So for my primary ROM I will reset it back and flash the ROM back to see how it goes then..
cyanogen don't boot anymore
hello, thanks for the awesome work, i'm having an issue with cm (on my oneplus one) the other roms boot and works fine; but cm stay stuck on a black screen (i made cm updates :s) i already tried to flash kernel again but i doesn't work; an idea to fix this ?
Multirom and L
Having some difficulty getting Multirom to run an L ROM. When I install an L ROM as secondary and try to Boot, I get a bootloop. Then when I try to boot any of my other secondaries, they get stuck on the boot image after trying to boot L. I have to reflash the existing secondaries to get them to work. The Primary is never affected, it boots fine. I am running CM11s as primary with the AK.010.OPO.CM12 kernel. I have updated TWRP to the 20141116 version. The L version is bpear96's 11/16. Any help would be appreciated!
Yellowish screen
Hi, I just installed multirom on stock rooted rom and after reboot my screen became yellowish. I think it's a patched kernel problem. Anyone has got a solution?
Is it possible to have mahdi as primary rom and cm11s as secondary, and vice versa?

katkiss marshmallow install wizard error

hi all i installed the katkiss marshmallow rom recently, the rom works great but seems to have a problem on my tablet with the Gapps that i got from the same thread as i got the rom (aka it is the right Gapps ). after i loaded gapps it runs through app optimizations as usual after installing a zip in twrp but then it gets stuck on one for about 20 minutes and then goes to a black home screen with the error install wizard has stopped, i can go into the settings menu but not to my homescreen, the message keeps popping up and then when i reboot it always says optimizing app 1 of 1 and then gives the error again when its done, pls help because the rom isn't very useful to me without Gapps, also how do you allow the browser to use storage in this rom i know this is a known issue with a bypass id just like a step by step guide of how to perform that bypass.
thanks.

format /data then:
flash the rom + supersu + gapps in one shot.
It sounds like you tried to add gapps at a later point or something.
If you do that and install the latest rom version from the thread, the browser will also have access to the storage without additional steps.
Also make sure that everytime you flash a new rom version you flash all 3 zips: the rom + su + gapps
thanks for the quick response ill quickly try install it all in one go and let you know how it went.
