Hi there, I have a MotoG and I'm just wondering which is the equivalent to Samsung EFS partition (where phone IMEI is store) in order to create a backup just in case because days ago a friend of mine lost their Samsung Galaxy S4 due to bad SO upgrade (some Wifi issues and voala phone hasn't IMEI and isn't recoverable) so where is the partition I should backup and which tool I can use to do this?
Originally it was believed the equivalent partitions was "PDS," however this has turned out to be the case. You could try backing up all partitions with something like Partitions Backup & Restore. None essential partitions include: System, Data, and Boot.
Bootloader is stored in a non-user-accessible partition - it's quite possible IMEI is saved in a similar way. Even with a backup of all partitions, you may not be able to recover IMEI.
The main (only?) way people loose IMEI on Moto G is by running the fastboot command: fastboot erase all
IMEI recovery research is being done here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/info-moto-g-imei0-t2925970

Hello peopleI am new to the S7 devs, since I've been browsing in the XDA S7 forum I've noticed a lot of people that lost their IMEI or corrupted it during installing custom ROMS.
It feels so bad even to imagine it, I was wondering if there is someone who can explain what makes a ROM corrupt IMEI or the EFS partition, and why some ROMS does the damage to people and not for others?
And whether having an EFS backup can save you in all cases or there are some cases where you really have no hope even with a full phone backup (all partition included)?
I am a big fan of custom ROMS but unfortunately, I can't afford to lose that phone at the moment.
So I was hoping that someone will shine some knowledge by answering what I asked and also provide some advice to do in the future to avoid as much as possible to end up with a Bricked phone or a useless one without IMEI.
Thank you very much in advance and don't be lazy on typing some lines that might help some people even if it's not me at the moment

What is EFS?
The EFS refers to a folder called EFS which can store information like meid, imei, serial number, config, diag settings and radio settings, etc in an encrypted format at the file system level stores. So it is very neccessary for us to backup EFS before flashing ROMs.
How will you lose the EFS folder?
How will you lose the EFS folder?
As far as I known, you always lose your EFS by mistaken operations. For example, flash ROMs or wipe data using an uncorrect method. Even wrong power on & off ways like taking out the battery to force shutdown as starting could corrupt your EFS, too. Rooting and flashing ROMs usually have no influence on EFS data, but you know everything can happen in the real word. There are some ways you can check whether your EFS folder is lost: inputting *#06# on dialler, going to settings/about phone/status or checking mac address.
What results if you lose the EFS folder?
The loss of the EFS folder may bring about an incredible disaster on your device such as no imei information, base band unknown, no radios and so on which mean your device will no longer be recognized by your carrier. After knowing that, won't you back up the folder?
How to back up the EFS folder?
Bofore backing up the EFS folder you need make sure your Andriod device is rooted. Then, install Custom Recovery on your device. Open the Custom Recovery, select the Backup option, and go on select the paritions containing EFS, then "Swipe to Back Up" to begin the backup process.
There are as well two Apps from wanan to backup your EFS one is EFS Backup and the other Partitions Backup
Always remember before playing with your phone, to read a lot, and always do BACKUPS
Hi,
What are the partitions which should be backed up after rooting OP8?
Since TWPR is not available for Android 11, I guess have to be done manually.
Already taken backup of persist partition, anything else? are there not EFS partition anymore ?
My axon 7 was flashed with Oreo 8.0 but it won't accept a network from my GSM SIM card.
Probably the partitions what holds the EFS data ( modemst1 & modemst2 ) got corrupted whilst upgrading to Android 8.

Investigation: Recovering EFS after TWRP restore
WARNING: Do NOT use TWRP to restore EFS! Several people have used TWRP to do a backup and restore of EFS, and rendered their phone's mobile settings invalid. This is typically indicated by cellular data not working and/or invalid IMEI. This...

Having my V60EA rooted with all my apps installed and configured I started to wonder how to perform a backup.
On a file level I have working Swift Backup, NeoBackup and partially old good Titanium Backup.
The question is how to wisely backup on a partition level. TWRP seems to be not ready yet (or am I wrong?) What then? QFIL and manual backup of all those dozens of partitions? Or maybe this doesn't make sense as there is KDZ file? Maybe I should backup just a set of crucial partitions, like boot_a/b (already got them backed up) and some others?
From everything I've read so far, my first step will be to get into QFIL and make a backup of every single partition in case I make a huge stuffup and need to restore any of them. It seems to save a lot of people from certain doom.
Still battling to understand what a FTM is as this seems like it's going to be pretty important for my Verizon to make it to EA successfully.
I think you could omit user data partition if you use another backup tool like SwiftBackup, OAndBackupX/NeoBackup etc.
And there are about 108 other partitions to backup. System is the biggest or of them - 21GB. I've just backed them up.
Ok, via qfill backup QCN than backup vital partitions of LUN 5, maybe you will be need it some time.
Than make full backup partitions you do not need backup userdata partition.
I am working like this made backup full there is rooted made system rw and some customizations. Than when. I set all my userdata customization and apps I am using migrate tool to backup userdata apps, settings... Also I can using LP to backup apps data.

You do not need backup single one by one partition, you can do it several of vital partitions than make backup.
If you want to croosflash Verizon to EA you do not need Verizon FTM you need EA FTM.
In FTM stored some temporary data like imei, ntcode, s/n... While first booting it write data from other vital partitions. You do not care so much about FTM.
Hello,
i wonder if it's possible to clone everything from Android phone A to phone B with TWRP.
Meaning saving the (encrypted) data partition and the others on SD via TWRP, put that SD into another (identical) phone and restore.

Typicaly, if the two devices are identical, you can backup one and restore on the other, but, I'm not certain whether encrypted data would restore correctly.
If Android on device A and device B is rooted then you can create a NANDroid backup of A and restore it to B utilizing Android's dd shell command.
