[APP][4.0+] SimplyScan: PDF Camera Scanner - Android Apps and Games

Today I have released my document scanning app on Android after coming to 2 realizations about current document scanning apps on Google Play:
1) The Pro versions are way too expensive.
2) The current scanning apps are too convoluted and required "figuring out".
So focusing on simplicity, as well as having an affordable Pro version, I began work 3 months ago on SimplyScan. I would love any feedback I could possibly get, as I'll be aggressively turning out updates since it's a new release!

i can confirm that this runs on Lollipop (SlimLP 5.0.2) on my OnePlus One.
thankx for this!

Hey, @AggieDev,
really cool and sexy app, much more friendlier ui than other scan apps I tried, immediately bought PRO after first try, thanks a LOT and keep your great work and simplicity! :good:

Good morning. Gave your app a try. The interface is very nice and modern. I am left with some questions...
Where are the documents saved once the scan is completed? I see I can export them to my phone, but could not find them locally beforehand.
Is there any OCR abilities in the paid version? I couldn't find such in the free version.
Thank you.
Sent from my Motorola DynaTAC 8000X

I'm giving this a try now! I use a scanner app SEVERAL times a day, on several different document types. I currently use 4 different apps (Cam Scanner, Turbo Scan are the main ones) and I will definitely be using this today. I have a Nexus 5, and HTC One M8, I'm on the Nexus today, but I will let you know how it works on the HTC when I switch back.
PS - LOVE the philosophy and passion behind this app.

Looks really nice! I don't often have to scan things on the go, but if the need ever arises one day, I'll be sure to check this app out first.

OCR is currently in the works! The documents themselves consist of images and some minor data, so any of them can be retrieved by exporting, if you want the images themselves select "Photo" or "ZIP file of photos" when exporting.

Can you point out the features which makes it better than the Google Drive Scanning?

Drive essentially has the basic scanning feature without the freedom of doing multiple things with your documents, with my app you can export to other formats than PDF (such as a ZIP file of the photos), you can fine tune the image effects, and you can apply various settings to your PDF before you export.

3MB too large for too small app
Looks and works great
I've only played with it for a couple of minutes but it seems to work good. I absolutely LOVE the polished UI. My only problem is that I don't really use a level
Still, great job.
This is the nicest "spirit" level I've seen. I'm sure its not the easiest decision, bu you get a lot of credit for making ads and anonymous data configurable. I hope you go on to build a whole suite of apps!
Great looking app, I am excited to see more people start making high quality UI for android apps because that is one of the things I dislike the most about android is the lack of polished apps. However, I love android still. But keep up the good work
I have to say this is quite clean and works really well. Thank you!
Doesn't let me install from the Market, says it's incompatible with my Galaxy Tab, but I bet it is.
Very nice, Altho ppl rarely download something like a level as a single app though.
Things like this should be combined with other utility apps to have a good selling point.
Good trial tho.
I love that you've given the ability to change every setting imaginable. (full screen, orientation changes, keep screen on, etc.) I feel that most apps need, although lack, most of the options you've provided. And of course, amazing UI. Great job. 5 stars
Thanks gogoad, this is an awesome app, keep up the excellent work!
One thing I really like about Bubble Level (by BRL Technologies) is that it displays 2 levels (2 axis) at the same time, and this is very useful (to me, at least).
Very good graphics, thanks for doing this. Hope to see more great apps from you.
Cheers

Probably there is a room for improvement using new market feature witch allows developers to distribute multiple apks (for example with different resources resolution) under one entry in market. I will investigate it in "near" future.
Oh, and as a last resort you have "Move to SD" option.

I will try to investigate it. Can you tell me what ROMs are you exactly using? Seems to be a problem with "market manifest" (file which defines what devices are compatible).
For now I've changed main post and added link to apk. You can also use market enabler as telenut pointed out.
Thank you all once again. I will keep you updated with changes.
Excellent!
Easy to use, excellent graphics. And the *option* to configure without the need to do so. Providing the choice of supporting by ads or not, is also outstanding.
Even though I don't really need it, I'd also like to see a second level (axis).
BTW, I don't agree to package apps like this with others. I kind of prefer the unix style - choose the right tool for a job and not a collection of tools

I have a question,
I have two mobiles and an eee-pad transformer, and im installed TeeVee on all of them, and since i follow around 13 series, it was rather painless to add them on all devices. How about a feature to allow one to share all the series, maybe via a QR code or something, that could be read on other devices and add them automatically?
Thanks!

Hi koven we're planning on releasing a new version still this month.
tarunongo thanks a lot buddy.
bloodhunter112 sorry the purpose of this application is solely to keep track of the airdate and information of your favorite TV shows.
I'm enjoying your app so far, with one exception I hope you can address. Some of my shows aren't being put into the calendar on the correct days.
First thing I tried to resolve the issue was to hit the update button and re-populate the calendar, but nothing changed.
Here's a screenshot of the app on my phone. The show I'll use for an example is Boardwalk Empire (though it's not the only show that's listed incorrectly):
Next I thought there might be an error with http://www.tvrage.com/ so I went there to make sure the information is correct:
As you can see, the next episode should be airing on Sunday, 6 November 2011. So something is breaking down between http://www.tvrage.com/ and your app. Might be some kind of scraping error.
Edit: I should note that Sunday, 6 November 2011 is the correct air date for the next episode of Boardwalk Empire according to HBO.

Thanks baks for the feedback.
I have just pushed an update to the store which allows DealPad to run on Android 2.2+. This now allows approximately 95% of active Android devices to access the application.
To celebrate this release the Ad-Free version has been reduced to just 50pence.
As always I look forward to hearing feedback from you guys.
Amazing app, definitely the best “HotUkDeals” app on the market. However, I have a suggestion, would it be possible to add a slide function to move between panels?
Sorry just noticed your comment now. I have considered the slide between tabs. The reason it is not implemented currently is that when a tab is switched the deals are downloaded. So adding the slide to switch tabs doesn't feel right.
I will keep it on the to do list and see if I can cache some deals to make it feel more natural and fluid.
Let me know if you have any more requests/comments.
Ahh its fine. Could you not make the slide feature like the YouTube app? The page itself doesn’t actually freeze, so you still have the ability to slide/press a tab even though it’s loading. Caching the deals would be a good idea though, definitely more efficient.
By the way, I have also noticed the settings page doesn’t actually have a header?
By the way, have you thought about adding the ability to switch between holo light and holo dark themes. Just a thought

Yeah the way youtube implement it is nice. Sadly the way the deals are stored at the moment means I can't do that without changing the data structure which will be a bit of work.
Regarding themes, I am personally not a fan of holo dark but I have had a few requests so I can look into it. Unsure about black and orange though

Yeah I understand what you mean, hopefully it wouldn't be too hard to implement though as a slide function would be great. It would definitely make it easier to switch tabs on tablets.
The black and orange theme wouldn't be too bad in my opinion, not greatly important, but nice as an option.

WiFi scanning with WiFi off
GREAT app!
Would it be possible to trigger "WiFi SSID Transition" events when WiFi is off with Android 4.3's "scanning always availible" feature? That would be really nice (e.g. only turning WiFi on if a specific SSID is available)
It should certainly be possible. I'll add it to my longish TODO list and it will probably rise up the priority as 4.3 takeup becomes more widespread.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi! Very nice app! I played with it just a few minutes, but the list of triggers/actions is impressive! Thank you for sharing your work with us.
If i'm allowed to, I have a suggestion: what about allowing the user to execut a shell script (.sh) on a trigger? Maybe it could be useful for advanced users and low level actions.
Have a nice day.

If i'm allowed to, I have a suggestion: what about allowing the user to execut a shell script (.sh) on a trigger? Maybe it could be useful for advanced users and low level actions.
Have a nice day.

You should be able to do this with the Launch Shortcut action using a third party app such as Secure Settings. It would certainly be nice for advanced users to be able to do it directly from MacroDroid so I'll add it to the TODO list.
Cheers,
Jamie
Is it possible to switch between 2G/3G without root and stuff?
I'd like to make my phone switch automatically to 3G when mobile data is turned on.

Hi,
When you guys say its not compatible do you mean it won't let you download from Google Play?
I have loads of Galaxy S4 users and CM users, so I'm not sure why you are experiencing this issue. If you can give me any more information I'll try and sort it!
You could always grab the apk from the website link if you're interested in trying it in the mean time.
Cheers,
Jamie

I am G note 10.1 user and downloaded your linked apk directly on my aokp 4.3 cm infamous rom. Installed two other apps successfully at later time.
The installation precess just told me that the app isn't installed .
edit: maybe it is useful to say that goggle play is not installed,

Hi,
Sorry this is not supported and I'm pretty sure this is not possible to do on a non-rooted devie.
Cheers,
Jamie
Can it disable or enable WiFi when I arrive or leave a specific location?

Ah ok that makes sense, I've not tested on a device without Google Play installed as I've never before made the apk available via any other means. I'm guessing there is some dependency due to all the in-app purchase stuff that prevents it working. I'll try and look into it and see if there is any easy way to get over this.
Cheers,
Jamie
Hi all,
Just a gentle reminder that if you like the app, could you please take a few moments to leave a rating on Google Play. It really helps me out a lot and its very hard to maintain a high rating because people are only to quick to leave a bad review if they hit a problem or don't like something.
If you do hit problems then please let me know before leaving a 1 star as I will always do everything I can to resolve any issues.
Many thanks,
Jamie
Done!
Thanks for such a great app!

I have updated Fearch to include some needed fixes on double storage devices and database queries while indexing. Please update and let me know what you think!
Thanks!!
Came from the Portal, very nice layout! I like the indexing. It isn't detecting my external sd though, and want to know how I can help. I own a legacy device the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze, running CM11 Official. What can I do to help?
awesome dude, keep up the good work!
Works perfect on my Nexus 4, keep up good work!.
What an excellent application! With 64 GB of data and that much consisting of various file sizes and file types, this is a 'godsend'.
Please explain to me why this app requires Full Network Access?!
I have 2 others 3rd party file manager and all of them is using full network access. I think it is because they using bluetooth or wifi direct when we share files. Correct me if im wrong

This is because you can't load ads without network access.

I am currently using vold.fstab located in /system/etc/, do you have file similar or in another location so that I can check various mount paths? This would be the first step. Thanks!

That, and ads need network access as well.
Make a paid version then. Im tired of every app requesting full network access. Its completely unnecessary. At what point did we as a community accept this as the norm?
I would rather you release a free version with less functionality then a free version with ads that requires full internet access. If the app turns out to be usefull then charge a buck or two and people will gladly pay, myself included.

It is simple, as much you want to believe people can make money on android without ads, you are mistaken. Regardless of how well the app is, people are still not going to pay for it. If you find my app doing something it shouldn't, then report it. Thank you for at least looking at the app. I am sorry that it just for you. Is there anything else I could do to appease without removing the ads? There are only two ways to make money on android, people paying for them, and people using ads. Sadly, more money is still made on ads and not enough is made in paid versions. My app doesn't use the internet unless its the free version for ads. I can't thank you enough for the response. Have a great day.
I will think about what you have suggested and maybe I will remove ads and add in more pro functions. Anything you have in mind that would make this better then?

thanks for a very useful app. Note that it does not show on the play store, even when I search the store for 'fearch'. There is another app called fearch that appears to be something completely different.
in any case, I was able to download the apk and install it. but the link to the pro version launches the play store with an 'item not found' message.
Dead?
Can you explain why this app isn't available on Google Play anymore and why your website isn't working?
Is this Project dead?
