[Q] Jellybean functions deleted in Kitkat ?? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did they get rid of the folder option in Kitkat - used to be able to long press home screen and had option for folder. On Kitkat on the shield long press only brings up wallpaper options.
Did they get rid of the delete all recent apps - used to be able to delete all, but on Kitkat on the shield the option is gone and have to individually delete.
Am i missing something in the settings or am I out of luck ??

To make a folder just drag a shortcut over another and let it drop -> voilá folder
"delete all" in recents is not possible by default.

how to change launcher

I want to say thanks to everyone involved in this hobby. I want to try changing to the other launcher that comes in the Octaine rom, cant remember how to bring up the choices again on the home screen. any help would be great.
Download home switcher app from market
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
When you install a new launcher from the Android Market I think it will ask you which you want to use when you press the Home button.
If it has already asked you and you would like to change to another already installed launcher, you will need to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications then select the "All" tab. Scroll down to your launcher app in the list and select it. On this page, look for a button that says "Clear Defaults".
After that, you should be able to press the home button and get a list of launcher from which you can choose.
Thanks guys, didnt think it could be very difficult
download the launcher of your choice. use root explorer to go to your cache folder (immediately after you download it from the market). copy this apk to your sd card. rename download.apk to launcher.apk (or whatever you want). copy this to your computer. open the rom.zip. delete the current launchers in system/app. drag the launcher.apk that you got from your phone to the system/app in the rom.zip. flash rom.

[TRICK] Get rid of huge thumbnail folder without root

Hello XDA! I am new to these forums. This is what I found when I was trying to get rid of the thumbnails in my internal storage. I got some ideas on the forums but they were all using root access but I did not want to root my Xperia L. So I just tried and the result which I got was awesome. Now there is no thumbnail data on my internal storage.
How To:
1. You need to have ES File Explorer for this purpose.
2. Tap the icon with a phone on the globe on the top right corner of the screen.
3. Then go to settings.
4. Then under file settings go to 'Display Settings'.
5. Check the first option, i.e., 'Show Hidden Files'.
6. Now return back to the file manager screen.
7. Then go to /mnt/sdcard/DCIM and delete the .thumbnails folder.
8. After deleting the folder, tap the '+' icon on the bottom left corner of the screen.
9. Then choose 'File' option.
10. Then enter the name of the file as ' .thumbnails '.
11. Reboot your device and now you are free from getting useless thumbnail files on your internal storage permanently.
THANK YOU

[Q] Can't Remove Notification Brightness Slider

Scoured the forum and net, but I can't find a way to remove the Notification Brightness Slider.
I don't have Brightness Settings Toggle in Notification or Brightness Settings.
I rooted, and installed Xposed with modules. Did this remove it? Or, isn't their a setting to remove it in the stock rom?
Can someone enlighten me?
TIA

There were such notification panel settings in S5, but Samsung has decided to remove them in Note4 and Note Edge.
Thanks for the reply.
I guess the next question is if anyone would know some other way to remove it.
Thanks in advance
I was interested in this myself as I upgraded from the galaxy s4, and an option to remove it was there as well. I installed the app Lux Lite Dash, which is another brightness control. Under the advanced settings tab, there is a checkbox to disable persistent notifications. This app replaces the default slider with its own, and once you disable the notifications in the Lux app, you will be left with no slider
Thanks for the above help.
Finally, found a way to do it!
1. Get SQLite Editor (Does cost $. but you can use it for other things too)
2. Open it, and select the FILES column
3. Scroll to the DATA folder and open it
4. Scroll to the DATA folder within it and open it
5. Scroll to the COM.ANDROID.PROVIDERS.SETTINGS folder and open it
5. Open the DATABASES folder
6. Open the "settings.db "file
7. Click on the "system" file
8. Select "notification_panel_brightness_adjustment" (number 279 on my list)
9. Change the value from 1 to 0.
10. Save, close out and reboot.
11. Enjoy

I'm fairly certain you need root for this, but it does work.

I'm rooted and root seems to be required to be able to access files. However, perhaps someone here knows how to access system files without root?

Hi, I came across this post and just wanted to reply you.
You can use sqlite editor to remove the clock from lockscreen.
1.Open sqlite.
2.Then scroll down to "settings storage", and open it.
3.then open "settings.db" and open "system"
4.once open, search for clock.
5.then you will see a "lock_screen_show_clock 1"
6.Change it to "0" and then save and restart.
Thanks a lot. Also, is there any option to add something instead of this clock as well. Just giving it a try. I will let you know if there is any issue with this.

Note 4 capacitive key -recent apps, long press for menu

Ok I kind of stumbled on this one..
You can turn you menu key into a recent apps key and long press for menu quite easily.
I've only tested this on my device which is on stock touchwiz lollipop. Root is required.
1) Using titanium backup freeze s finder
2) Using root explorer or similar navigate to system/usr/keylayout and find file Generic.kl
3) Open the file with text editor and navigate to key 139. Replace MENU with APP_SWITCH
4) Save and exit the file. Reboot.. Profit
Hope it works for you.
Thanks, this may come in handy :good:
