[MOD] REQUEST : Google Chromecast receiver app + S4 = portable Chromecast receiver?! - Galaxy S 4 Themes and Apps

So I've discovered that the Google "Cast Receiver" app for the Nexus Player (APK download) installs fine on my S4 running Android 4.4.4 AOSP (PAC-ROM) but doesn't seem to actually DO anything, so was wondering if someone might be able to get it working, as using our S4s (and perhaps other devices like tablets) as Chromecast receivers / Nexus Players would be handy in many situations, e.g. hotels (play from phone to tablet plugged into hotel TV), development/demos (demonstrate on one device, mirror to another), etc.
Alas I don't know anything about modding Android apps myself, but perhaps someone here might fancy giving it a go...?

how to gain access to google tv apps to use with other devices. is there even a point

i am looking for the Airtight app that will let me stream content from IOS device to my MK802 Android 4.0 USB stick that i have hooked up to my TV. since it is a GTV native app, i cannot get it from the play store on either my galaxy note or my allwinner 10 device spoofing a xoom tablet.
since iGTV is basically just like any other android device my MK802 should be able to run it. is there a way to spoof the play store to get the app, or is there anything i can do to get it ?
Any progress on this? I would also like to use the GTV UI on another Android device...

[Q] How to stream videos from Android (S4) to iOS (ipad mini retina)?

I initially thought it would be a much simpler process.. but it seems to be more complicated than it should be. i tried a dozen of apps but still could not get to watch videos stored on my S4 (4.3) and display it on my iPad mini retina (on ios 7.04). here's a list of apps which i tried:
- airsync by doubletwist
- air playit
- remoteplay
- iMediaShare / Flipps
- knockitLive (site closed down)
out of all these apps, AirSync seemed to be a promising app which should work with all Airplay-enabled devices (i.e. my iPad). however, the Airplay icon didn't show up on my iPad even after i broadcasted my S4.
can anyone advise whether there's a simple solution to this? thank you so much !

Hi! You can use DLNA tehnology. You need DLNA server for S4 device and DLNA player (or streaming compatible player) for iOS device. This pair good working in one Wi-Fi network.
any proven app combination that works well? i've tried a couple but still the same issue (unable to detect my s4 server)
I not have ability for test specific app tandem, because I happy nexus 7 owner. But then I testing this technology, used Ice cold DLNA server and WM player on home network. I can testing this only after holidays (Jan. 9th), or you can try spend series experimental.
I interested subj and test again some apps. Simply and working server - ice dlna server. Best choose for android from tested - BubbleUpnp app. Settings for this program rather convoluted, but capability - universal.
For iOS apps I found blog post, link below. If tested apps, please write, that pair guaranteed worked, please.

Using BubbleUpnp on my Android worked. Played back on iPad 2 through the VLC app, which detected the server. CineX also worked but I found the VLC app had a better UI. Both had stuttering problems but CineX seemed better, although not sure if it was due to me changing the settings.

[Q] Any way or form to connect Nex5 to Samsung AllShare Hub?

So I bought a Samsung AllShare Cast Hub from Amazon, which described itself as working with all devices that have Wireless Display connectivity. I buy the device and come to find that I'm having extreme difficulty finding options to connect my Nex5 to the Hub, and the AllShare app says the app isn't compatible with Nex5.
Are there any capable apps or specific roms that should be used for casting an image to your TV?
I'm pretty sure that the Samsung Allshare HUB only works with Samsung phones. If you are trying to mirror your device to a TV, you will need to get a SlimPort.
NEXUS 5
Yeah I figure as much now but at the time I was following the information on this listing: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-All-S...15&sr=8-1&keywords=allshare+cast+wireless+hub
It seems to neglect the device's limitations and insteads choose words like "any device"
It even says "from the manufacturer"
1st time Amazon has let me down.

Is it possible to turn my old Android into a TV box?

Hello, first of all.
It's been a long time since I have visited this place, so excuse me please if I missed a similar thread. I have searched for it.
My question is if it this possible to turn my old Motorola XT 720 into an Android TV box (i.e. Chromecast or similar).
I have tried CheapCast app that only crashed when opening YouTube. This phone has a HDMI port and I assumed it can connect through it to my Philips TV, which is not a smart TV, but a regular HD TV.
The only connection I was able to create was the built-in version of media gallery from phone which has the option to display the pictures from phone on TV screen (proving there is a working connection at least).

This should be possible as the device has the ability to use another display. I would recommend using something like Tablet Remote or other similar apps on the Play store so instead of using the device as a chrome cast you can use it as a full media center device connected to your TV. By using one of these apps you would play videos directly through your device instead of "casting" them. This should hopefully work arround the issue of apps like CheapCast crashing.
Hope I could help and good luck
Thank you, Tablet Remote works good between the 2 Android phones. Still working on it.
I am also working on this route, trying to make use of my screen-broken Xperia Z. However apart from using as mediacenter with kodi, it would be nice if I could properly emulate chromecast. I would love to see a nexus android TV Rom being able to drive my phone, is anybody working on that?

Cast from Android phone to Android tablet

Is there any way to cast media from an app, specifically Google Play Music and YouTube, from a Nexus 6P to a Nexus 7 (2013), similar to how a Chromecast casts those apps?
I'm trying to get a tablet head unit install working elegantly, and casting GPM/YT from my or my passenger's phone while still being able to use Maps navigation natively on the tablet would be the most elegant solution I can think of. If anybody knows of a way to do this or something similar, let me know! I'm willing to pay for an existing app or to incentivize the development or release of a new one. Thanks
I have the same question. I've been searching everywhere for a similar solution with no luck. I want to cast youtube music from my android phone to a nexus 7 tablet on the headrests. (Not just screen mirroring, that creates a sound lag.) Did you ever find a solution?
In other words, how do turn my tablet into a youtube "sink" or receiver?
