Hi there.
I have recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone, and i am having some problems with it.
While watching youtube videos, and also while doing anything else on the phone, the screen will freeze for around 2-3 seconds, then unfreeze again.
This happens roughly every 3 minutes roughly.
I have tried clearing the youtube cache
I have tried enabling developer mode and turning on 'Force GPU rendering'.
I have tried rooting my phone, and downloading an app called project butter, which you may have heard of.
None of these actions have fixed the stuttering, so i really need help to find a permanent fix, or at the least, a temporary fix.
If someone could please help me out with this, i'd greatly appreciate it.
Thank you

Why don't you try a factory reset? Or even a custom ROM for that matter since you've already rooted and lost warranty.

It's pretty easy.. Since you're already rooted, just flash a custom recovery, do a Nandroid, flash the ROM and Gapps through that after wiping. I can help you with it though PM if you want But if you like the stock Samsung ROM, try a do a factory reset before that Hit thanks if I helped

Okay... I don't know what to do anymore.
Every Jellybean ROM I flash on this phone is far from buttery smooth.
Okay hear me out.
I turn on the phone...
Drop down bar is stuttery... Scrolling is very Skippy...
I give my phone 5 seconds charge..
All the lag stops.. 100% smooth.
I turn off the screen..
Turn it back on.. And the lag is back.
Its getting on my nerves and I've tried EVERY ROM in here...
They all act the same..
I've done kernels and overclocking...

I've flashed.. Reflashed and flashed again...
Nothing...

Can grab logcat thru adb or via an app like alogcat. Either will do the trick.
If you use adb, the command I use is adb logcat > XXX.txt . Run this when you reboot the phone and it will get the info needed. You can then attach the txt file here or on pastebin. Good luck

A friend of mine bought a Nexus 5 and had it for a week and it worked perfectly. He decided he wanted to sell so I bought it off him. We did a factory reset on it to delete all his data etc off of it and after when I put my sim card in and went to set it up to use it, it doesn't connect to my network automatically. When I choose my network in the setting it will say "registering to network" and then say "can't connect to network at this time please try again later" I have tried using different sim card from different companies and it still does the same thing.

try to re-flash radio image.
This seems to be a really common problem with these phones. I have personally known two people's phones did this and the only solution was to RMA it. Not to mention numerous other reports of the same problem here on XDA.

Might as well flash the factory image if you don't care about data. That way, all possibilities would be covered.

This is concerning.
Hey all,
This started a couple of weeks ago and has gotten worse. I'll be using my phone normally and it will just freeze. No warnings, no messages, nothing. If I wait around 5 minutes I'll be booted back to the lock screen and the message "Unfortunately the process com.android.systemui has stopped." The phone will then function normally. Now when it freezes I just hold down the power button until the phone restarts since it's quicker.
I haven't installed any new apps recently so I don't think it's down to that. Sometimes before the phone freezes it will stutter badly for about 20 seconds. Would appreciate any help. Running stock 4.4.4.
Would be helpful if you could post your logcat/dmesg. That way we can have a look and narrow down the problem

Make sure you enable USB debugging. I believe in this case logcat is more important than dmesg.

Unfortunately afaik as of JB you either need root for logcat or access to a computer.
I'm just taking a shot in the dark here but perhaps try wiping the cache partition from recovery? You don't need a custom recovery to wipe cache.

I think that's a problem for the solution of the fire makes it
I order the same day repair lab
Flash a factory image. If the restarts stop then you know it's a problem with the ROM/kernel. Not all phones are identical, what may work for some doesn't always work for others. Your phone simply may not like some custom kernels, simple as that. If the ones you are flashing are undervolted by default that could be the problem, as some phones respond better to undervolting than others.

Don't use toolkits. Flash the system image with fastboot. If the problem is still there, it's your phone. If the problem disappears, it's the ROM/kernel. Again, use fastboot and not a toolkit.

Hello.
Im not sure if someone else also found the fix for app conflicts and errors when u mannualy update system apps. But I found a working fix.
When I was testing something to fix my led cover but find out this will resolve the annoying conflicts when manually updating system apps.
So this will work for as I tested so far for 10 minuts or when u reboot. After that u need to do this again.
1. Go to device security.
2. Go to safe or secure start up. Im not English so.
3. If secure start up is disabled turn it on and reboot.
3. If secure start up is enabled turn it off and reboot.
I was able to update all apps I had conflicts before. But when I reboot again u will need to redo step 3. Only this time it will be turning on or off instead of off or on. So bassicly when it was turned off then u will turn it on instead.
Hope this will help for u guys aswell.
