Nexus 5 models band - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I bought a Nexus 5 in late 2013 from the french playstore. Now I have moved to the US and I am wondering if the phone is expected to work perfectly on AT&T or if it will have some restrictions.
It is unlocked, rooted with stock (5.0.1) if it matters.
It seems it cannot benefit of LTE / 4G of AT&T but I would like to confirm that (maximum i can get is HSPA +)
Thank you!
Jon

It'll work just fine up to HSPA+. I use a D821 from Australia on H2O which is an MVNO that uses at&t.

Maybe try that and enable radio band 4 and the other one should be able to connect to LTE after on AT&T

funny, i just called google to confirm and see if there is actually different models, they just say the LTE should just work fine, it does not matter if bought from france or not....

[Q] Switch a GS3 from Sprint?

I have four Sprint devices [two are GS3s] that I'd like to use on Verizon.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to do something like that?
Verizon says that I can't use a Sprint device, but is it possible to flash something that will make it look like a Verizon device?
Thanks- I need to know whether to try to sell these phones or not.
Don't quote me on this, but I thought Sprint devices had integrated sim cards, only accessible via mods?
Assuming I'm wrong, you'd first need to check that the radio on the sprint variants supports any of Verizon's bandwidths. From there I'm not sure. Maybe flash a Verizon ROM and test? I'll do some research when I get home and let you know if I find anything useful.

Alright, did some reading. From what I can tell, the Sprint GS3 will have limited connectivity at best. The reason being that the radios do not in fact support the same bandwidths.
Verizon's S3 supports:
LTE 750
CDMA 850 / 1900
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
Sprint's S3 supports:
LTE 1900
CDMA 800 / 850 / 1900
US Cellular version adds CDMA 1700, LTE 700/850/1700
Verizon operates on LTE at 750 (mhz?) only, so that's a definite no-go on the LTE. As far as the CMDA 850 matching up - you might get some connectivity, such as voice, maybe 1x data/3g data, but I don't really know enough about the topic to speak with any certainty.
Hope this helps.
You can't anyway because Sprint and Verizon phones are locked because of cdma regulations or something like that.

My Verizon Note 2 is unlocked factory. T mobile sim cards work fine, I've tested it, just no data because the bandwidths aren't supported by the radio.

That's different. Note 2 is hardware unlocked so that you can switch to any carrier or use any rom worldwide thanks to your root method. Not the same for the GSIII. In Adam Outler's first Casual method for Note 2, he has a video explaining just how far unlocked the phone is and what you can flash since the hardware (as in the insides) is unchanged worldwide.

Obviously. Not disputing that - in fact I was more or less observing it. He said that CDMA phones are locked or "something like that" . That statement could be misleading to some, indicating that ALL CDMA phones are locked due to "regulations", when I know for a fact they are not.

They're locked in a way that makes it to where you cannot switch to Sprint if you're using a Verizon phone and voice versa. So they are in fact locked. Not gsm locked though. Cdma phones are locked. Our phones are gsm capable.

Quick ? about Verizon S3 and ATT 3G

I have a quick question for everyone. I have a Verizon Galaxy S3. I am wanting to move to Straight Talk on ATT Service. I put in a Straight Talk SIM, and input the APN Settings that I had acquired.
The only service I could get was "E", which I'm assuming is Edge Service. I was just curious if anyone knew anything I could do to help the phone at least get HSPA on AT&T(Straight Talk)?
Thanks.

From my understanding it does not work that way. The only service you'll get is edge.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
3G
I believe the model is missing the HSPA+ freq. needed in the USA. I have heard that it does get the HSPA+ with SIM card in other countries, but only EDGE in USA.

AIO Question

My Nexus will be here tomorrow and I'm wanting to sign up with AIO's $60 plan. On their site it is asking for an IMEI. My concern is that the new Nexus IMEI may not be compatible with their 4g network. Has anyone else had success with AIO? I don't want to be stuck on 3g. Should I be seeking an IMEI from another device as a work-around? If so, what device, and where? My current phone is a 1st gen HTC Evo with sprint. Any help and advice is much appreciated!
Ive been wondering the same thing also.

They're using AT&T's network, I'm on it right now and get HSPA, HSPA+, and LTE. Works 100% fine. Used the same SIM card on my nexus 4 and had great service.

I've also wondered if AIO's LTE (AT&T) will work on the N5. So you have the N5 and it is working no problem? How are the speeds on LTE and HSPA+ (yes i know they throttle, just wondering how it feels)??

Unfortunately i don't have have a Sim to swap. I'm wondering if I order one using the IMEI from the new Nexus 5 will I be able to access 4g? Or will I be bumped to 3g because the Nexus 5 does not show up in their system?
Using Aio SIM from my N4 with not so good reception where I live and getting decent speed.
FYI, the N4 wasn't in their system either and needed the EMEI to activate.
Activating a nexus 5 on aio will be a cake walk. Nothing like the problems people over on sprint are having.

[Q] Nexus 5 d820 in Saudi Arabia and Philippines

Hi everyone,
Just bought nexus 5 on ebay and thought it was d821,the seller told me that it is d820. My question is, will it work fine here in Saudi Arabia and when I try to go home in Philippines, no issues at all?
Thanks.
You may or may not be able to get LTE connectivity (depending on which LTE bands are used by those network providers) - but 3g and voice should work regardless on any GSM carrier.

Hi,
Have you got your Nexus D820 in your hand, Is it working in KSA calling and 3g? Please confirm which network it's working with Mobily, STC, Zain?
Thanks in advance, appreciate your support.

Well I got the D820 and I live in Dubai. 3G works with Etisalat except for the LTE which doesn't support the local LTE bands here.

I ordered D820 from Amazon and I tried different SIMs even have Etisalat SIM here in Saudi Arabia with roaming but it always says "SIM not detected"

Have you tried more than one sim card? Actually, the problem could be from the phone. It could be a defect. Nothing to do with whether the carrier supports it or not. If there's a sim card in there then it shouldn't say " Sim not detected"

I have a D820 and it works in Syria over Syriatel, and since we don't have LTE in here so it's the same for me.

Is there any problem with Nexus 5 D820 in Syria?

New to anything but VZW..

Hey all.
Lifelong Verizon user looking at the Nexus 5. Would have to go with Sprint as they are the only other carrier with coverage in my area (and only 3G for the time being).
I've had many Android devices in the past and have unlocked/rooted/flashed them all. I'm only used to CDMA/LTE and seeing carrier specific branding on custom ROMs though. Does it not matter with the N5? I thought there was a difference between Sprint (LTE) and AT&T/T-Mobile (GSM) but perhaps I'm mistaken. Would appreciate any clarification.
Thanks.
Nexus 5 isn't available for Verizon. Nexus has the radio frequencies for sprint T-Mobile and at&t so all you need is the APN and it works

Yeah like I said I'd be looking at switching to Sprint. Curious about the custom ROM question I posed, thanks.

Look for small local GSM or cdma carriers in your area such as mine in Hawaii we have mobipcs and they told me the nexus 5 works on their network

Sadly I'm from a farm community and we don't have much here. Verizon and US Cellular CDMA/LTE and Sprint 3G are the only carriers we have with data coverage.

Welcome to the nexus 5 world if you can hold for a couple more months and want T-Mobile they will usually follow behind after At&t

Sprint should have lte everywhere in the coming months. If its not there yet it will be soon.
With custom roms most have cdma implemented and work fine.
What is your location?

"Soon" the term soon and "coming" is very potent in sprint
