Hey,
I'm creating an app, that requires fingerprint scanning. It has to have SDK compatible with android, so I can use it in my app. What can you suggest? I need some cheaper variants.
Thanks.

I have been searching for a way to passcode/password protect apps on my Nexus One since I got it. Is there a way to restrict access to apps such as SMS, Gmail or email? I have this on my iphone but have yet to see this for the N1.
Another thought: Is there a way to create a folder and password protect the folder?
Just enable the pattern locking in the security settings. Android does not permit a numeric passcode, but instead relies on a drawn pattern. However, it limits access to the entire system. You cannot limit access to specific apps.
This is the one and only feature i do miss by Windows.
This android app offers (basic) support for such things:
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/index.html
You can individually PIN code each app. of your choice.
ok thanks..i downloaded filemagic but how do i install?
Its not filemagic, its Tasker. AFAIK since its still in beta, the author puts the download link until there is some bug found. So you would need to follow the site. Here it describes how to do what you want in Tasker:

EDIT:
Oh I found a link, you can download it here:

+1 to protector, its a great app
Disclaimer: I'm in no way associated with Unified Remote. This app is a workaround for an annoying app in Unified Remote, that's it.
Unified Remote is an app that allows you to control various PC programs from your Android device. It has a built-in feature to allow you to create shortcut directly to specific remotes instead of opening the app and clicking your way through the menu, however this system is flawed in that it only works on browser. Try to add such a shortcut to e.g. WidgetLocker, and it will simply add it back in the launcher instead.
As of the latest update, they "accidentally" fixed this by adding a URI Writer tool to create NFC tags. It's possible to use this tool without an NFC tag and launch remotes that way.
I've written an extensive tutorial on how this works and how you can do without this app it here: http://www.pocketables.com/2012/07/...ote-shortcuts-in-non-launchers-heres-how.html
However, if you prefer a simpler solution, I created this app to do that. What it does is give you access to the URI Writer and allows you to configure the app itself to be a shortcut to a single remote. That means that once configured, opening the app means you're opening the remote you configured it to link to.
Warning: This app is designed to work with the full paid version of Unified Remote. The intent used to launch the URI Writer references it being the paid app, so that's the part that probably won't work with the free version. UR is a great app that is worth the money, so I decided not to spend time on making it compatible with the free version. If you like UR enough to need this app, you like it enough to pay for it.
Explanation/tutorial video:
Warning
I am not a developer. At all. I literally can't program. This app was creates using Tasker's new App Factory feature, which allows you to export apps directly from Tasker. The UI, functionality, etc was created using Tasker, not coding. That's the explanation for the file size, since it has to package some stuff from Tasker as well. The Tasker project that this app is an app version of can be downloaded here.
Because of this, the app is provided as a "use at your own risk" deal. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, I don't know. It provides an easy fix to a niche issue with an app I have no affiliation with. I've been wanting a shortcut to the Basic Input remote in my WidgetLocker for months, and this allows you to do things like that.
thx. I just started using LMT/pie and wanted to longpress my Yatse icon to start my xbmc instance. This does the job nicely
The uri writer wouldnt launch, perhaps because of version changes since you made the app, but I copied the uri from a widget configured to do what I wanted and that worked just fine
The fingerprint scanner in H90010f firmware is only available for system apps. I know that universal fingerprint API was added in Android 6.0 and up and at lollipop firmware level, only a few devices like those of Samsung or Huawei have this feature. I was wondering if someone knew a way to make third-party apps to be able to use fingerprint scanner (for locking apps or whatever the reason). Plus use it for scrolling as well like we could just swipe up or down the button to scroll through news feed, or is it a hardware feature and not a software?
Hi everyone.
I was used to utilising Samsung Pass for passwords, especially with its integration with Note8's iris scanner. Is there a password-manager app with a similar integration with either fingerprint or face scanner for OP7pro? Thank you.
Lastpass

There are bunch of password managers.
Lastpass, Bitwarden, 1Password, Dashlane
I recently moved from Lastpass to Bitwarden because I wanted something that I open source and where the source code is available

mSecure.
It's also cross platform and syncs across platforms.
Android, iPhone, PC and MacOS can all be synched.
Have a look at KeePass..
I like Samsung Pass which I can login to android apps & seems other password manager can only login to websites and not apps
Hi all,
I'm new to Google phones, I got my Pixel 7 Pro on release day after having a Huawei Mate 20 Pro for the last 4/5 Years. Is there anyway to have individual Apps locked that require you to give your fingerprint to open them without the use of a 3rd Party App from the Play Store?
I used to be able to do this on my Huawei in the settings and lock any apps individually but I can't seem to find that option on my Pixel 7 Pro. I've seen the "Pin Required" option on Whatsapp but even that doesn't work great as you can see everything when the app is opened behind the pin screen.
Thanks for reading.

You'll find, as I have, that a lot of that creature comfort stuff are not in pure android. Unless I'm wrong, you'll need an app to do it for you.
Correct. As @xgerryx said, there are apps in the Play Store to make that feature available, although I don't use them so I don't keep up with what's best, or what works.
Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it could be done within the settings of the phone without the need for another 3rd party app being installed. Shame small things like this aren't available within stock Android on Google phones yet this was available years ago on other Android handsets.
Issue with app lock applications from the Playstore on non-rooted devices, it's easy to bypass for anyone with an iota of Android knowledge. You really need one baked into the OS as they're far more difficult to overcome.
I the same for me !!!! coming from oneplus with smart launcher pro....incredible thing any native app locker one by one in android stock !!!!
where can i ask this point with google team ?
hope for next version ?

How can I contribute to Android? You can report bugs, write apps for Android, or contribute source code to the Android Open Source Project.
There are limits to the kinds of code contributions we accept. For instance, someone might want to contribute an alternative application API, such as a full C++-based environment. We would decline that contribution, because Android encourages applications to be run in the ART runtime. Similarly, we won't accept contributions such as GPL or LGPL libraries that are incompatible with our licensing goals.
We encourage those interested in contributing source code to contact us via the channels listed on the Android Community page prior to beginning any work. For details, see Contributing.

Hey!
I was dissapointed, too, after switching from s20 ultra and mi11 ultra about this missing feature.
My workaround:
(0. Microsoft launcher to hide needed apps)
1. Tasker lock screen function (you can define apps that require lock), (I am tasker heavy user) so i don't need any more extra apps
2. Terminal-systemizer magisk module to help tasker not being killed (can be killed anyway, but enough for my needs)
3. Profit.
