NOT AT&T OFFICIAL FIRMWARE
The ROM in question is a 5.0.1 Android build and according to the original source should be good for GT-I9500/9502/9508/9508v versions. The nice folks over at XDA have been playing around with the new software for a few hours now and it appears to be a legitimate official Samsung firmware as opposed to the recent Aurora ports of the leaked Note 3 software.
A few things need to be noted about the Galaxy S4 ROM, though. First of all it has a Chinese region, so even though English is available as a system language, along with two variants of Chinese, some system messages will remain regionalized and so will some functions, like the weather widget.
A stock English keyboard is also missing, but that is easily fixable. Other than that the build seems to be doing well in terms of functionality. NFC, sbeam, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G DATA, Wi-Fi, all sensors for motion and light, hotspot function, Multiwindow all seem to be in working order, as reported by various early adopters.
If you are feeling adventurous and decide to check out the leaked Lollipop software remember to back everything up, as update will almost definitely wipe your internal storage. And if you are a little bit skeptical and wish to wait for the official OTA to start seeding, it shouldn't be long now, as the ROM seems to be just about ready for public consumption.
~~~ FROM THE MODERATOR ~~~ This is not as easy as some may Think...... Caution and an advanced understanding of your phone is recommended before flashing anything "Cutting Edge" releases as this is ....... Caveat ..... Remember you, and only YOU, are responsible for what you do to your phone...no one else.......... ~~~ oka1
This isn't as easy as it sounds... for several reasons.
I'm not going to really go into the details but basically if your not a firmware with LOKI support you won't getting to run a 5.0 ROM on the S4 for the time being. Updates to Safestrap, among other things need to be made, and with the changes in Lollipop it remains to be seen if it will work. Not to mention the build is Chinese, would be better of waiting for the official update for the U.S, Canada, or the U.K
We'll see what happens though ~
It appears to be a ROM that you flash through ODIN. Would Safestrap and LOKI even matter at that point?
Even so, flashing it to your device will likely cause issues when trying to go back. If someone is brave enough to take the plunge go ahead and pull up terminal and check the aboot increment. Mind you, this isn't for our model and may brick your device.
We hopefully wait for lollipop for our beloved S4 it's matter of days already so we have to be patient
Its also for the Octacore variant I believe, NOT the i9505 which is similar to our i337 (minis it has unlocked bootloaders). So ATT Variants I HIGHLY suggest not trying to flash this
I337 is non compatible with this rom.. After install you reboot to recovery.. Appears there is now a i337 edition bootloader providing..
As this is not working for this model before someone damages their phone I am closing this thread
Please don't post firmwares as "Official" if they are not meant for the exact model phone
Verizon is teasing an October OTA update to 4.3 for our Galaxy S3s. I am on rooted and unlocked, stock 4.1.2, VRBMB1 with TWRP 2.6.3.0. I am hoping to see a rooted, unlocked version available here shortly after the 4.3 OTA releases. I think i am not the only one in this boat. Can someone outline the steps I would need to either, 1.) accept the OTA, or 2.) flash a pre-rooted version, if and when it appears here? Thanks
Link to these teasers please?
Also, the update (if said update exists) could potentially lock down the bootloader in similar fashion to the S4 or Note II so unfortunately outlining steps to reroot and unlock won't help you in the event this occurs. The existing exploits definitely support the existing firmware but saying anything more would be irresponsible.
That's sound advice there. I'm not OTAing nothing until the devs say it's okay or they make a flashable zip.
Ahh, there's no mention of an update specifically for Verizon. When OEMs state an update for phone models and do no specify the exact ones, they always mean their international variants. International varants are not tied to carriers and therefore do not need to go through a certification process before being pushed to handsets. If there's an ota coming at all for any US variant, it would't be on Verizon for another few months. It would foreseeably go T-Mobile/Sprint then AT&T/Verizon a month or two later.
Also, any site that has as many grammatical or syntax errors for sentence structure should not be viewed as a reliable source. Try here for example, the info is more clearly detailed and presented.
Yeah wouldn't hold my breathe, If Samsung release in Oct the soonest verizon could/would roll anything out would be jan/feb and pretty sure looking at past performance from verizon the s3 will reach end of life around the same time. meaning no update
I am reaping the benefit of a lot of generous, and smart, people who have kept my Moto Xoom alive and kicking way past what most would consider it's end of life. One of the reasons I chose the S3 was because of the large numbers that were sold. I assumed that the community support would outstrip any "official" support from either Samsung or Verizon. What are chances that someone will cobble together a great 4.3 ROM for the i535, after the release of 4.3 by Samsung?
For reasons beyond my knowledge level, ports from international versions of the S3 don't get done for the VZW, ATT, and so on variants of the S3. I know the non-US models have a different CPU (and chipset ?) so that could be the reason. Proprietary drivers and libraries that hook into the kernel are NOT "free" or open-source. It's not as simple as just re-compiling the Samsung-released kernel as important pieces of the puzzle are missing and it won't work without those pieces....
Let me explain a few things which every new member seems to learn the hard way (I learned the hard way).
Let's take for example the i9505 and the i337. Both Galaxy S4s, both with Snapdragon 600.
I didn't notice the small, but brutally important fact that there is an ENTIRE FORUM for the i337 (I owned an i337), but tried to root it using tools for the i9505.
1. It didn't work.
2. I was lucky I didn't get a brick.
So, they look the same, they behave the same, have the same hardware, but for all intents and purposes, treat them like completely DIFFERENT devices.
So, if you flash the Sprint firmware...
1. Odin will most likely not let you do it.
2. Even if Odin lets you, you might:
a) get a brick, hopefully a soft one, around 90% chance this will happen.
b) around 10% chance - you get a semi-functioning device, with com.android.whatevers crashing ALL the time, no wi-fi, no calling, no NOTHING.
c) extremely unlikely option (some 0.00001% chance) the Sprint firmware actually works. And no, with 0.00001% chance of success I don't mean "it might work, why don't you try it?", it means "don't f***ing do that stupid s**t".
So I'm available available to receive the firmware for the NH7, but I am not really sure how this mostly security based update will do for me on a day to day basis,
If some has a few minutes to explain how I will be better of then I am now on nc5 sprint note 3
Wait to see what the international version does. US Branded has always been a different galaxy entirely.
So as some of you may know the S4 had it's exploit fixed and since then we haven't been able to get away from Touchwiz based roms.
Before I go get the G3 I just wanted to be 100% clear that even the latest firmware hasn't fixed Bump, and I will be able to do other AOSP roms. From my quick research it seems like it's fine, but I only have 20 minutes left to get it friday instead of monday, so I figured I would just ask to be safe.
AT&T released firmware Build number: KVT49L.D85010f to patch root exploit. Read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/general/d850-software-update-t2937550
When Android Lollipop rolls out to G3 in the near future, rooting will be harder to accomplish. Same for other brands.
But that is recent enough that a phone bought today will not come with it out of the box, so I'm not worried about that.
And in theory I can just flash a bumped lollipop build later anyway right?
I just want to make sure it's not in the same current state as the S4 where you have to have touchwiz and match roms to bootloader version and what not.
I know there isn't too many roms yet with bump being fairly new, but as long as I stay on the current build I should be fine going forward no?
And I guess on that note, the stock rom isn't nearly as bad touchwiz is it?
Cool, I went for it, thanks for the quick clarifications. I can read all about everything now while I impatiently wait for UPS friday.
with LG phones you can always downgrade the software to a version where you can root.
I am sure there will be a way to get official lollipop while keeping custom recovery and root.
Once again, LG locked the door but forgot to close it before locking like what they did on the G2. So we were still able to upgrade while keeping custom recovery and root by mixing and matching partitions from upgrade and previous versions.
I know there's another thread for this but it's an absolute cluster F*** to make heads or tails of. I wanted to simplify things.
Simply download files, download modded Odin and put files in proper slots in Odin.
This is will give you stock U firmware with the latest PK1 modem. Root isn't what it used to be so I don't bother with it, please don't ask me for root files and instructions of this firmware.
so this will work with the latest update from November? and also what are the benefits of U firmware? I haven't been able to find any good info anywhere. i have rooted and flashed before lol i just haven't been in the game for a while
U firmware seems smoother, it's bloat free. Only real downside is no advanced messaging.
me a bit. If you could help me with any answers or links to my question(s) I would sure appreciate it.
1) I would like to odin into the phone the latest TWRP but I am not 100% sure which file to flash.
2) I would like to ROOT the phone if it is fairly safe at this point in development, but again I have heard of at least 2 different methods to do this.
3) Please advise on which file to use and/or method. My phone DOES connect up with my PC just fine via USB and I have ADB working also.
Well if you continue searching and reading some more, you will see that twrp only works on non locked bootloaders. Any carrier driven Samsung device has a locked bootloader and twrp will not work. We have the snapdragon and not the exynos. If you need to have twrp then you need to get an S7 edge Exynos version. There is no working custom recovery for the snapdragon version phones as of yet.
Yeah, you'd think! The international is the one that gets everything first.
The unlocked firmware favors T-Mobile though offering T-Mobile customers features that other users don't get.
Samsung never released 4.4.2 for the US but everywhere else kthe world they did. In Germany it hit in summer 2014 after the tablet was a little over 2 years old. In Luxembourg it got 4.4.2 less than a year ago. The latest update in the US was a security patch in late 2015. Samsung said the update would release the the US eventually but it's been over 2 years it's been out. Where is the damn update. I've been spamming support trying to get ahold of the team in charge because I want the official ROM because KitKat makes it way smoother and handle ram better and every app requires atleast KitKat now. I know I can flash custom ROM but that's not something I want to do on this tablet. So has anyone found a way to get n8010 KitKat on n8013. I always get an error in Odin. I'm looking for a n8010 device or motherboard for sale as well in case I can't get it in mine. Thanks
Its not listed for 8013 and i dont understand your released in Europe when its a USA cellular model .
I'll clarify, n8000 is cellular model, n8010 is international wifi, n8013 is Us wifi. It does up as Cellular South CSC but it's wifi unlocked. They all got KitKat except for the US wifi variant which I expected it would get first, don't know why the CSC is XAR but that shouldn't matter Samsung
As posted no update for 8013 .
Others yes see identical posts .
Yes I know I'm asking if anyone was and to get n8010 running on n8013 since they are same hardware, I hope Samsung responds
Samsung isn't here and they aren't going to support an ancient device and they won't support it more than they have when it was still relevant.
sammobile.com doesn't have 4.4.2 for the 8013.
There are a plethora of ROMs to choose from that will meet/exceed your requirements (well, the 4.4.2 part, not an 'official' 4.4.2).
I ran Omni for years; it's a wonderful ROM, only surpassed by the currently-maintained CM/Lineage 14.1 (Android 7.1).
I wanted official but I may give that up, I have never rooted and custom rom guides are way to brief I want someone to show me how to do it. Also do they have s pen support and all the apps and play store apps on custom roms, I want it also to be smooth as ****
Omni and CM/Lineage are far smoother than stock. Both have full S-Pen functionality (use Note Buddy app if you have to, has nice extras also) and both have full Play Store access (install gapps, per instructions) and with root, you can use F-Droid.
