[Q] No USB Driver Found - HTC One S

I'm wondering if my USB port on my older One S is dead. I have two, one old and one new. When I plug the old one in my computer charges it but doesn't recognize it. On the other hand, the new one is recognized and also charges. I'd like to get some stuff off the old one, but the connection for the digitizer is gone, OTG to USB didn't work, and USB debugging is disabled.
So when I go into Device Manager I see it under Portable Devices and in Properties, and it says it's working properly. The thing is under Other devices Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller has an exclamation point by it. I try and resolve the issue, which only appears when I plug the phone in, and it says Device Driver Software was not found. I also can't get into the device from Windows Explorer.
That's kind of ridiculous, seeing as everything else I use that's USB works fine besides my old phone and the new one works great (Besides the SIM Network issue I'm having with that).
What in the world is the issue here exactly?

One more USB question...

Hi there...
A quick question about the USB...
Is is at all possible to have a USB-port that can still charge the phone, but at the same time is "dead" when you try to connect the phone to the computer ??
I have also asked about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179171
The story is that the Phone (SonyEricsson X10i) can be charged fine, but when i connect it to the computer, my computer say that the hardware is not recognized, nomatter if it is in flash-mode, mounted from recovery or in the normal way.
And the phone donĀ“t even show anything about USB connection in the status bar eigther.
I have tried 5 different computers now, and 2 different usb cables.
I have also a X10 mini and a Desire HD that works fine on all the computers and both cables.
I have tried to remove software, remove drivers, clean computers, reboot, check the memory-card in the phone, install software and drivers and all other things i can think off...
It is two windows 7 and three windows XP computers btw.
So is it at all possible that the phone can still be charged, but data-connection fail ?
As i see it, there must be some kind of data-exchange or else the computers would not even say "hardware not recognized"...?!?
I'm not quite sure I understood your question correctly, but let's see if this helps:
I used to have phone that didn't have drivers for Windows I used at the time (I think it was Windows 7). That meant that Windows wouldn't recognize it (when plugged via USB cable) and will not therefore provide power to that USB port (hence the phone will not charge).
I was able to get around the problem by going to the device manager, locating the relevant "unknown device" and force installing some random drivers for it -- I don't even remember what it was that I picked -- something that Windows would allow me to do. Of course the port wouldn't work as a data connection like this, but since Windows now 'knew' the device, it powered the USB port and I was able to charge my phone from it.
My problem is that I actually can charge the phone ok...
But I am not able to make a data connection between the computer and the phone at all...
My question is then, if the usb connector in my phone can somehow be broken even though I am still able to charge the phone...?

I'm fairly sure that yes, the contacts or the controller can be broken so that you can still charge but be unable to establish data connection.

computer does not recognize shield

i'm trying to connect my shield to my computer to do some basic android development (i have an app, it works on other devices, want to test it on the shield).
my problem is, when i plug it into the computer, nothing happens. to clarify, i don't mean that the drivers don't install correctly and then i can't do anything. what is happening is actually nothing. the computer (windows 8) does not recognize anything is happening, the device manager does not see any new devices even after scanning for hardware changes.
the shield is in development mode, and has usb debugging turned on, but i don't get any response anywhere. the shield does at least appear to charge over the usb cable, but that's it. listing adb devices also provides no output.
do you guys have any idea what might be going on that the device isn't recognized on any level that i can tell?
It sounds like either the USB port or the cable you're using is faulty.
Have you tried switching USB ports, to see if it's recognized then? And have you tried using a different cable?

If youre just trying to connect thru adb you need the universal naked driver. If the shield isnt being mounted try a different usb port and make sure youre using the shield cable as well. My samsung cable will charge it but i cant transfer data with it.
Did this get solved?
Did this ever get solved? I have the same issue. I have tried everything everywhere has said to do with no luck.

[Q] Nexus 5 not connecting to computer (usb), does not show in device manager

Hi,
I would like to see if I can get anyones assistance with solving my problem. I have lost the ability to connect my Nexus 5 to my computer via USB. I had previously been able to connect the phone without any problems.
Connecting my phone to PC charges the phone but no drivers are loaded, nothing changes in device manager and I cannot see a change in windows explorer to view the memory card.
So far I have tried the following:
searches on various sites
rebooting phone, starting in safe mode, wiping all data, performing a hard reset
connecting other phones to usb cable to check that it is not a charge only cable, also trying several other USB cables
connecting phone to other computers
connecting other phones (HTC) to load drivers (then uninstalling drivers)
displaying all hidden devices in device manager and removing all drivers that resemble something to do with mobile phones
uninstalling programs I no longer require on the PC
using "wugs nexus root toolkit" to uninstall and re-install drivers
checking & unchecking MTP, PTP, developer options, USB debugging in various combinations to elicit a response from the computer.
I have also tried to visually check the connections of the USB port on the phone wondering is there is a break but I cannot see very well.
does anyone have any further suggestions to get this phone connected to a PC?
my only last thought is to attempt to open the phone and check the resistance of the plug connections.
Have you tried enabling and disabling usb debugging while plugged in?

Are you sure you're using a data usb cable and the usb port is good?
Same Issue
same thing happened to me today when i connected the device to PC.
Mine says unknown device on PC under other devices. so i hope my USB port is ok.but im not using the original SUB cable. i wonder that's is the issue. but it didn't bother me until today. my original cable is at my friend's house.
Tried updating drivers manually. But following error message occurs once i select the drivers folder and hit ok.
Windows was unable to install your unknown device
Please help.
so, not really a solution but while at work my phone fell on to a nice rock cracking the screen. I have replaced the phone and the new phone connects to the pc fine, drivers come up without a problem (I will put this down to a fault with the phone)
Thank you for your assistance

[Q] MTP/PTP Connection problem

Guys, I have some problem with my Note II, the MTP/PTP function stopped suddenly like 2 days ago. When I connect to PC, the phone doesn't pop-up let me to choose USB connection mode, and in PC it just showed up as 7 CDC's in device manager, this is weird, I am sure that I have the correct drivers installed. Before that my phone keeps pop-up that dock is connected, but I doesn't own a dock though. So I guess it is USB flex cable is faulty, I replaced it and still having the same results. Charging, USB OTG, ODIN mode works fine though, just I am unable to connect my phone to PC. HDMI out I don't know because I don't have the cable. When I ask the shop they said there probably is something fried on the mainboard IC. Is it true? MTP mode is quite important to me man... Tried other kernel like AGNi and select UMS mode also not working, previously it is working though. My phone is out of warranty, and the Knox warranty also voided. Should I sent to Samsung SC? If no go I might change to OnePlus One.
Now I am on stock ROM also not working. :crying:
did you try updating the drivers
through windows automatic updates?
or did you try with win7 or win8 or linux?
Xp has always troubled me with incorrect or missing drivers

Can't connect via USB

I think I've exhausted my options, hopefully somebody here has an idea.
From day 1, my TF300T has been unable to connect to a PC. At first I thought it was because one of my cats chewed on the USB cable before I could try (it still charged, just no PC connection) so I didn't do anything while it was still under warranty.
Since then, I've tried 3 different cables, multiple PCs and a Macbook, and I can't get anything out of it. It's not detected at all by the computer - no unknown device, no prompt for drivers, no device connected sound when I plug it in. No reaction on the tablet either, whether USB debugging is on or not. I also tried replacing the USB port on the tablet, but got the same thing. I doubt it's a driver issue since I'm not getting anything at all on either end of the connection.
It DOES connect to the dock ok, and all the dock functions seem to work. I've tried connecting the USB cable to both the tablet directly and the dock, and I get nothing from either port.
I'd really like to be able to flash custom ROMs on it, and I can't find a working way to root or flash it without a functioning USB connection. Could it be the third-party USB cables giving me problems, and if so, is there one that actually works? And if not, is this just a lost cause?
