Terrible LTE after changing charging port - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I swapped out a bad charging port on my wifes Nexus 5. Now this phone no longer will grab an LTE signal at our house. Prior to this install this phone would have 2-3 bars of LTE at our house. NOw it just displays H.. not even H+. Meanwhile my note 4 also has 3 bars of LTE>
I tried flashing the modem.
ANy suggestions before I return this charging port to the amazon seller??

The port will have nothing to do with the LTE signal. Something got rattled when you had it apart or in data settings it got set to 3g

Are you certain about this statement? THe charging port has 2 antenna wires going to it... I am also positive that with my Note2 the charging port was 100% the culprit with the LTE . I had to send back a charging port to a seller on amazon, and buy from someone else.
I have tried switching it from 3 g to LTE>
What I have found out is if I place the phone on LTE only and then near a window... it will finally pickup LTE, but not even display the strength of one bar.

It's something internally that is messed up. You aren't getting good LTE reception so either take it apart and try to fix it or live without LTE.

[Q] Why does my AT&T HOX keep switching to EDGE?

I've noticed this only at night time when I'm at home. My phone will be on Edge instead of 4G. Data is fine because I'm on wifi but if I turn wifi off, I will have no data and it will not connect to 4G.
I live in an area without 4G LTE, but we do have HSPA+. I have a few iPhones in my house also and they are not, nor have they ever, switched to Edge in this area. So why does HOX keep doing it? Is there something I need to do like turn of LTE or something?

I have yet to see mine display anything but 4G, even when my signal is very low
I have run into the same problem as you, and likewise my iphone 4S never went to edge nor had a signal issue where I live. I think i'm going to take my phone back to AT&T and either ask for another phone or a refund. I really like this phone but having no signal at home is unacceptable.
Some of my "android" co-workers have said it may have something to do with the battery profile? Since we don't have root we can't check it but. But something about the phone is thinking "I don't use 4g at night" so it shuts it down to save battery... anyone?
My first HOX would never switch to "E", but always showed "4G", except when it would lose all bars and show a small X. I finally swapped it out yesterday for another one and the new one hasn't lost the signal completely yet, so I'm guessing there are a few bad HOX's out there with buggy radio firmware.
I'd keep swapping out units until you find one with stable cell reception. My new one finally switched to E today, but that's because I'm barricaded in a fortified complex with no cell penetration whatsoever. Seems to be working as expected.
mine does the same. I live in a low reception area and my 4s can hold on to the hspa signal while the one x goes between edge, no service, 4g. Love the phone but I need my phone to work at home.

[Q] Tmobile samsung vibrant dropping signal/bars falling/disconnects from network.

I stay in africa(uganda) I sold my nokia n900 to buy a used unlocked tmobile samsung S 4G vibrant which has become my worst nightmare...the phone drops network signal and sometimes when I pull it outta my pocket it will show (searching) but will connect after 30minutes else i have to reconnect it my self in network setup..all that was not a problem to me because I work in the capital were network is always up in 5bars both 3G&2G but loses it quickly in some building..
Problem:
When I leave the capital just 15 minutes away it starts to drop signal from 5-0 but will regain in some places...it does this in areas that other people on the same network as me won't get a problem so do my previous 3G phones including the previous n900 I owned.
Things get bad when I reach home in that I barely get a bar in 3G and only 5-4-3bars in 2G it keeps on playing and in that process it will go to (searching) until I reconnect manually which forced me to look for a solution on the internet.
Solution I got:
Connect magnet wire in the back external antenna input at the back of the phone, guess you all have seen that hole, in the video the guy got 3bars from 0-1 bar which convieced me that my network problem is now solved.
Starting the trick:
I cut my tv antenna wire in two pieces, removed three thin silver wires and tested one by one.
The first two failed but the third one brought the network down from 0bars of 3G upto 3bars 3G.
Going on with the test now very happy I try a more fitting object I inserted the niddle which I used to remove the rubber cover which covered the external antenna input.
My nightmare begins:
Immediately after I removed the niddle, the signal bars all went off to X but mine shows a circle and a line touching both sides.
When I reinserted the niddle I got the signal back but this time only 2bars for 2G which was 4-5 bars before and 0bars for 3G which could dare 1bar.
finally:
Now I just removed the niddle, network went off again now my phone was relying on the niddle maybe the internal antenna was now disabled or ruined by me.
I hard reseted the phone, cleared cache but all didn't work..i put back the niddle in the hole It all came back.
Yesterday I took it to a local repair shop and today when I picked it I had -79dbm 2G and -53dbm 3G but when I left the shop 15 minutes away I got an X then 5-2-3 bars of both 3G and 2G..thaugh i got the network back without niddle support. The network is badder than how it was when I first bought the phone.
What the repair guy did:
He rolled a copper wire around the external antenna input and soldered it to an object just near th ext antenna input.
Finally:
What could have been the problem in the first place?
How can I solve the problem?
Phone: tmobile samsung galaxy s t959v vibrant.
State: unlocked and being used on airtel uganda.
Android Version:2.2.1
my last say: I have tested 3 different 3G phones with my simcard and all have performed well in my house with full bars and I don't remember having network issues with my previous 3G nokia phones, my brother who has a galaxy pocket doesn't face network problems either..i have tried all network operators with no success but still the same problem and now come for your help because after the niddle night, alk has become was! I like the phone soo, much cause its my first android but am afraid I can't have it like this, friends call me and it has already disconnected from the network even when the bars are still there in full swing..........

3G cell reception issue and fix

I just want to write this post maybe it will help anyone that has or will have the same problem. I looked all over the internet and could not find a fix, so here is my fix. Hope it works.
I work over seas on oil rig sites (remote locations) so I talk to my wife and family back home via different VOIP apps so its important to get a 3G signal, usually I lock WCDMA only network and get at least 1 bar which is sufficient. All of a sudden I started experiencing very weak 3G signal on my phone, weirdly this was at the same location where it had full bars in the past. This only applies for 3G, I could get 2G signal no problem.
In other areas that I know had good 3G signals and towers were close, it would work alright outdoors but once I get behind a door or a window 3G disappears even if I have it locked. I put in my sim card in my old Galaxy Nexus and it had 3G indoors with no problems at the same place and right next to the N5. So I started testing with both phones right next to each other when I lock 3G with the same SIM the Galaxy nexus would get 3 bars while the Nexus 5 would get the empty triangle (emergency calls only).
I couldn't get out of my mind that I dropped my Nexus 5 a hard drop, but I have a rubber case that took all the shock and the phone didn't get a scratch on it. This was before the 3G signal starts getting funny. Couldn't help but feel that I broke it somehow though. I felt like this might have got something loose inside. What didn't make sense to me is that if the antenna didn't work it wouldn't get 3G at all, indoors and outdoors.
So Step 1, I assumed it was a software issue. I went through a painful hard reset. To my surprise it still had the same issue afterwards.
Then out of desperation I saw this dude's video on how he couldn't lock GPS until he opened the back of the phone and found that the GPS antenna was not connecting straight.
youtube com/watch?v=K1-uCIb-t8I
So I started searching for where the 3G or 2G antennas are on the N5, but couldnt find anything that points that out. The phone was worthless to me like that so... I took a deep breath and decided to open the phone. Keep in mind, i'm an oilfield engineer and I still had a feeling i might [email protected]#k the phone up, specially that I did not have any tools with me.
So I watched this video on how to open up the back cover:
youtube com/watch?v=mkbmtu-1KSQ
and went through this guide on what's inside the N5:
theregister co uk/2013/11/05/nexus_5_teardown_shows_a_light_touch_thats_easy_to_fix/
Then I opened it, couldn't find anything to do, except maybe clean the minor dust off and blow on the ICs a bit. There is alot of pins that connect to antennas located on the back cover itself, so I closed it up, made sure its closed tight and all the pins touching, put in my SIM, and GOD DAMN!! IT WORKS AGAIN... I was getting full bars 3G!!!
So what I figured is that when I dropped it, one of those pins moved a little bit away and broke the connection between the antenna and the IC. Works great for the last 5 hours, solid connection.
Hope I would help anyone with this

Thats nice , but lots of ppls have the signal issues with nexus 5 , and it isn't antena disconect for 90 % if us. I have separated the phone many times. , done about 5 hard resets's tried diffrent verions of radio's diffrent ROM's etc... nothing work's. Frineds have nexus 5 2 of them , and they can get 3g and 4g when they want, and i can only get Edge which is 2g. which is unusable..... I noticed that i have 3g only when i am in other towns, but not mine home town.... I tried diffrent sim cards, and diffrent netowrks, nothing seams to get the 3g at home, plus the gsm sucks, it interupts the calls.. So i must be the frequencies of the working 3g network in mine home town ? Then how i don't get 4g ? Why other ppl with the same phone, and same network have 3g when put next to mine ? NO one knows...
Same Issue
i am having the same issue, just having "E" Edge and cannot connect to 3G/4G, done everything to resolve the issue, took apart the antenna part of my phone but all the connectors and wires are intact, did hard reset several times, tried different ROMS including stock ROMS, tried the *#*#4636#*#* selected all the Radios but no luck, used 2 different sim cards but no use, same damn "E" in the status bar, APNs are all in place, nothing is wrong with the settings so far, dont know wots da problem with this set.
Please help us.

Data Connection Issues

Have anyone experienced data connection issues on the AT&T variant, some of my apps like Craigslist won't open, but it will on other devices?

Yes. I am having issues on my Sprint Note EDGE. The signal goes up and down and the data is very spotty only giving me any data about 20% of the time. I am waiting on my replacement but I doubt the phone is faulty.

My issue is now turning out to be one app, which is Craigslist. I can't connect via AT&T data, but I was able to use a Verizon Hotspot to connect.
I have noticed data & wifi connection dropping frequently. I have been blaming my mobile operator and internet service provider until I saw this thread.
On my T-mobile Edge i was getting Wifi drop outs every minute or so.
I am getting a replacement tomorrow and I will report back.
here is what my battery stats looked like

Firmware.....
Its a Firmware issue
Guys I am almost positive this issue is due to a glitch in Samsungs firmware. I tested the data and was able to download over 1 megabyte per second with only one bar on 4g Spark LTE.
According to the tech support person I talked to that would not be possible on only 1 bar. (btw I stopped the test after hitting 1 Megabyte per second for those that need help converting that equals 8mbps). I was in a saturated 4g Spark network with 5 towers within spitting distance from my location and it still only showed 1 bar. I'm thinking either how the tower reads the signal strength or a bad code line shows no more then 1 bar no matter what.
Now for those having dropped data. Check the Sprint {if you are on Sprint or your providers site for a similar coverage map) site to see the saturation for 4g Spark service, the phones are now setup to LOCK on and HOLD onto the FASTEST tower, which according to the tech who also filled me in on the way the new antennas work, can lead to what seems to be dropped service. She would recommend for individuals having this issue if Spark service is not fully activated in your area to switch over to CDMA only under settings to fix the LTE data dropping issue. BTW the Spark LTE service is apparently different then the old LTE service so those versions do not appear to work interchangeably (according to the Sprint service map). I'm assuming this new triband lte is new for all the carriers but maybe not...
I also noticed someone else got the new version of the firmware, which I also have and that did NOT fix anything for me. If anyone is struggling with this issue I would wait until the firmware is updated again. WHICH I hope by that point we can get flashable firmware for those of us that are rooted...???
Now for a VERY Important Fact: there will now be no way to use data while on a phone call. These phones are a single antenna model. You can either be on the phone or data... UNLESS you are making a WiFi call. That is why this is now a option. It will keep the antenna set to the data side of things and make it possible to use data for the internet at the same time.
I hope this helps.

Thank you for the info. I agree it has to be a firmware issue. I am getting a replacement handset tomorrow to verify that but I can see all these hansets being bad. I am in areas all day long with strong lte/spark/and 3g but my data connection constantly drops. I do also see the cellular signal shooting up and down but have no issues with my call quality at least. Have to reboot...toggle airplane mode....or shut data off and on just to get a little bit of 3g service for a second or two. I really hope the firmware update comes soon. I also went under networks in setting and set it to CDMA only and it as at least seeming to give me a steady 3g connection for now...will reply if that changes
signal
I had the note 4 for 3 weeks before giving it to my wife and getting the edge....the note 4 in all my normal travel was perfect....now with the edge i have horrible data so its something i hope they update quickly
I don't rely on the stock signal bars, they are not really reliable in my opinion. Instead if you install SignalCheck Lte or SignalCheck Pro (for those that are rooted) from the play store. It accurately shows the true signal strength of your connection.
I like the Pro version since it allows to reset the connection quickly if need be.

Only 2G/EDGE after teardown on Nexus 5

Only 2G/EDGE after teardown
Hello,
yesterday i fixed the broken screen of my Nexus 5 (European version).
Today i noticed that only EDGE is working and that i dont recieve 3G.
My dataplan doesnt support LTE so i cant check the LTE connectivity.
I double checked the coax antenna cables and they fit well.
How can i determine which part was damaged? Or are there any suggestion what could be wrong?
kind regards
Today i noticed the HSPDA Symbol at the train station.
It seems to me that the overall signal is very weak.
I ordered a new antenna cable and hope that it will fix the problem.
Are there any suggestion what could disturb the overal signal strength?
