[Q] how to erase data from broken phone - Honor 6, 6 Plus Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My H6-L02 has fallen to the floor and the display does not respond, I would like to send it to repair but how to erase all data in the phone. I have TWRP recovery installed in it and a custom ROM based on B117. The phone is off now.
Thanks for advice.

[Q] HTC Incredible 2.2 rooted: Won't Boot

I've tried a lot of things.
Long and short of it, I was dumb. I was playing around with kernels and installed one I shouldn't have. Reason being as I wanted to go back to stock and they stock kernel on hydra-kernels.net(?) was good but it had an error for me. The error was involving phone storage.
So, I went and downloaded a stock D'inc kernel but this as it turns out was from 2.1 or so. Naturally this didn't work and broke my phone or at least really ticked me off.
I tried the downgrade but the bootloader won't see the image (formatted sd to FAT32 both in windows and OS X)
tried to hard reset: nothing
clearing cache nothing
Is there any hope?
any suggestions would be appreciated
Bump.
I need a working phone
Can you get into recovery? (Clockwork or Amon Ra)
If so, just flash a backup. If you do not have a backup (shame on you), wipe everything and flash your ROM of choice. You will of course have to start from scratch this way, but your phone will be working once again.
I was thinking of this. When i boot into recovery and select "wipe data/factory reset" it does it's thing and upon reboot I'm still stuck at the white screen
For some reason it won't install any roms either
Spoke with a Verizon tech and they're sending me a new phone
Should I be worried if they perform tests on it? The phone itself is S-Off because of root. Will they charge me for the new phone?
I have to send the one I have back to Verizon.

Stuck in the bootloop :(

I noticed One+ was a bit slow so I decided first to switch from power save to balanced and it was still going slow so I decided to do a reboot. After the reboot the phone got stuck at the boot animation. I can get into recovery tried a factory reset didnt help. Im wondering if i try flashing the OS if that would work. Plus what would be the best way to do so.
What ROM, Kernel are you using?
Switching from Power Save to Balanced shouldn't cause your phone to be stuck in a boot loop. Something else caused it.
Everything is stock, it was really weird I was considering maybe using adb to flash a stock img (although i have little experience doing that). I tried rebooting again to potentially start this process (this is after a good 5 or 6 reboots and a factory reset) and it started up to the welcome screen. Another side issue it seems like the factory resets for this device only wipe the apps + user data. I know if I was rooted i wouldnt expect the media to be wiped but its stock with the stock rom. I bought it off ebay and when i went to load my stuff i did a factory reset and noticed the previous owners data including call/text logs and contacts were all on the device

If you were to flash a stock image, it would be done in fastboot mode and not adb mode. So is your phone booting yet?
You can always adb sideload a custom ROM and flash that to get your phone to a bootable state again.
The phone booted up after a good 3 hours a factory reset and multiple reboots

rooted honor 6 bricked

hello guys, so this is how it goes, my honor 6 was rooted few months ago, and recently i was accidentally format data through cmw, i know it sounds stupid, but now the phone is stuck at boot screen, initially i was just wiping data and factory reset, then because of my stupidity i went on pressing things like formatting system or data, and now the phone wouldn't function again, just stuck at boot screen, the worst thing is i never do a backup
I searched over the internet and tried few methods including wiping dalvik data and factory reset again, but it just wouldn't work, i'm really helpless, so im putting my only hope in this forum, i hope any experts here can help me out, i took it to phone repair center but they couldnt fix it, i just bought this phone not even half year...i'm seriously need help ! :'(
noob here, i want to know also the fix for this
any ideas?
thanks
Download the ROM of you phone (the ROM from Honor website)
Extract the data partition with Huawei Update extractor from the update.app
and send these adb commands:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash data DATA.IMG
Or more easy:
Put the update.app in an dload folder in your SD CARD, power off, press 3 buttons of the phone and wait the recovery process.

Recover data from corrupted storage

Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935V and the other day I put my case on and put the phone in my pocket not realizing I had put the case on upside down. With the case on the wrong way, the power and volume buttons were pressed and the phone rebooted several times. I thought I was just getting notifications when my phone was vibrating in my pocket, but in reality it was vibrating because it was rebooting. It must have booted to recovery and/or download mode and then because the buttons were still pressed, rebooted again and again. When I checked my phone after a few minutes of it unknowingly rebooting, it was in recovery mode so I attempted to boot normally. It didn't fully boot, but I got a message "Phone storage corrupt. The data partition has been corrupted. You need to reset your phone to factory default settings. This will erase all your data."
Now, I'm an IT professional so I know how storage disks work. I know that the partition table is probably corrupt but the data itself is probably intact. I would like to recover the data on the partition such as photos, videos, texts etc, but since the phone doesn't fully boot, I can't get to the storage from a PC, and when I connect via ADB I get the message "error:closed" when I try to do anything.
My questions/thoughts:
In the same way you would slave a damaged hard drive to recover the data, is there a way to access the partition without booting to it?
Is there a way to do a full ADB backup of the partition and try to extract the data from the backup?
Is it possible to install a custom recovery and do an image backup of the partition and try to extract the data from that?
What is the likelihood of recovering the data after a reset to factory settings? I have access to professional data recovery software and I'm willing to spend some money on specific software for Android recovery.
Is there any other way that anyone can think of to retrieve data from an Android device that can't boot? Or to repair the corrupt partition?

bootloop 4 blink red light every time I restart device

Hi,
I' sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section or duplicate. I searched around and found something similar but les detailed or with rooted configurations.
I have this issue, when I reboot the device, it stucks in bootloop. This happen:
-power on 1 vibration
-sony logo
-android logo
-white screen with animated waves
-stuck animation
-4 times red led blinks then reboot
usually I use this energy saving apps: Greenify, Brevent, ForceDoze
Nova Launcher, not rooted, stock ROM Nougat 7.1 (from Xperia Companion)
and usually I don't stop anything of system apps
other apps are regular apps
The first time it happened I had repaired with Xperia Companion, two reboots, none issues.
Every time the issues happen the system seems buggy or something, like if i press back button it shows me stock launcher instead of Nova, or Sim Network is unresponsive, or some other little things are not so fluid like usually are or are not expected.
Flash stock ROM with flashtool doesn't resolve the issue (stays in bootloop), only full repair with Xperia Companion or a flash with complete wipe
can't execute ADB or Fastboot, in the flash mode (fixed blue led)
my question is: there's a solution to this?My mobo is bricked?there's something I can do without software repair, or reflash it?
around i found someone that says "SE2Tool JTAG flash" resolve this issue, but what I now this tool is used by rapair shops
anyone can help me?
Hi, I have the same problem. I tried to flash stock rom just like you did but without wiping cache and data because I got important files in storage. So I didn't even try to perform a full repair with Xperia Companion since it wipes everything in storage. Did you find the solution? Please share with me your experiences. Thanks.

Hi, the last time I've reflashed stock rom wiping only cache, data remain intact. Still working since then.

Just did that. Flashed the stock rom while only wiping cache with the Flashtool. Still no luck. Thanks anyway. Do you have any other suggestion?

first of all, it sound silly, a scheduled time to time incremental backup.
it's more easy to avoid-mitigate this boot loop issue rooting and install a bootloader like twrp. there are a lot of guides here that explain how to.
with recovery you can choose to backup data partitions if stuck on bootloop, on stock you can't do anything.
in your case if the reflash did not work you must do a repair through companion software, loosing all your data. or pay a service shop to recover it, but o don't know if its worth it
