New samsung Tizen phone will run Android Apps, Gears next? - Samsung Gear 2

Samsung's Z1 expected to drop tomorrow, will run Tizen as the default OS, but will be capable of running android apps from day one. Hopefully this will also come to the Tizen operated Gear series watches.
http://www.androidauthority.com/tizen-android-apps-acl-580069/

I hope so too. At least maybe we can sideload acl if we can get a dump of the acl app?

I made a similar thread in the galaxy gear forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...oid-apps-tizen-z1-acl-how-gear-tizen-t3002154
Haven't had any responses yet though.
We need someone with a Z1 to try and rip ACL (assuming it's free. I don't promote warez distribution). Alternately if ACL is built into the firmware we might be able to extract it from a firmware dump (but the articles I've read seem to indicate that it is not built in but needs to be installed from the tizen store and we can't access the tizen store without a Z1.)

will there be android hack for samung wave?

currently i am using samung wave.
the hardware is good, but i dont like the bada os.
does anyone know if there will be an android hack for wave? probably the galaxy s firmware
Nice Idea But i do not know yet
Good idea samsung wave with galaxy firmware, when, please
would also really appreciate such a firmware.
the hardware is so close to the GalaxyS, so it doesn't seem to be impossible ..
the hardware of this phone ist so great, the case is so good looking metal, and the display is the best beside the Galaxy S - it would really deserve a cool modding dev, that brings android to it.
If you can gain root and install a linux kernel, yes. However, looking at the work it's taking to install android on the hd2, with the highly customizable windows mobile OS, it's almost definitely not gonna happen with bada OS when there's a perfectly viable alternative (Galaxy S)
i buyed this phone yesterday. its perfect hardware for Android . i hope someone finds a solution to install android os on it soon.
Me three? Or four? Any devs interested?
If it had an official Samsung release of 2.2 froyo I would get the phone in a heartbeat. Pipedreams. Wouldn't mind the screen being just a tad bigger with less color saturation also.
Hi All,
Check out this thread as there is a lot of people wanting Android on the Samsung Wave and are will to donate to see it happen. Maybe post in that thread to show your support.
Ok turns out I cannot post links yet. So go to the thread 'samsung wave instead of galaxy s?'
If we have enough people will to donate maybe we can get the attention of someone like Cyanogenmod [dot][com]
We want Android on Samsung Wave!
Hi fellas.
I want this to happen too!!
IF YOU ARE ON FACEBOOK Then please join my page titled:
"We want Android on Samsung Wave!"
if you want Android on Samsung Wave!
Wave has everything on the hardware front, a Smart-phone lover's dream come true!! but It's the crippled software that bottle-necks what could truly be an Iphone killer!
So please Samsung..Do the right (and rational) thing!!
and unleash the Wave S8500 with Android support!!
this will turn your wave into a Killer Wave!! &
It will make you No.1 in smart-phone league!!
If you wanted android..why did you buy the samsung wave in the first place? you should have bought the galaxy S...
cause I want a good build phone with a flash.
I second NHS2008. I would also add that the Wave is 30% cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S/i9000 and is basically the same phone with a smaller screen.
Android on the Samsung Wave would be fantastic!
Maybe u can donate me some money big mouth so that i can buy something better than the galaxy of course
hmm
.lol at last comment.
I have been seeing these posts all over the web for some time now with people wanting android on their WAVE fones.
I beleive it is possible, just no one has done it yet because the galaxy is around.
I am not just guessing, as i have ventured into the file system on my fone many times in the past.
The Galaxy, runs its 'root software' that then loads up Android, Making it an Android fone.
Want some good news ?
The wave is running this exact same 'root software'.
Most of the files are the same, the folder structures are the same. everything except the wave has different configuration files and of course the addition of the Bada platform and different hardware drivers.
Yep bada is nothing more than a platform, so to speak.
Think of it like this,
Lets pretend the old DOS is a 'root software'.
And windows v3 and windows 95 were both platforms (or GUI's, however u want to look at it).
Once upon a time, you would have a hard drive that would load into DOS, which you could then choose load your windows 3.1 (the old day, hehe).
Then came windows 95 that would startup and go straight into windows, right ?
Wrong.
Win95 also started up with Dos, then loaded windows 95. Just was dont in a way that same it look seemless (when it didn't BSOD on ya ).
A quick change to configuration files, and you could stop that win95 autoload feature, and it too would boot into the DOS it was actually starting with, giving you the option to run which ever windows you had on hand.
Now if your still following me
Both the Galaxy and the WAVE are starting up with the same 'DOS/root-software', then their config files are telling one to load the 'Android Platform/Windows v3', and the other is telling it to load the 'Bada Platform/Windows 95'.
Thats the best way i can think of putting it to explain it.
So the theory is, Remove the Bada files, And copy the android files on, and update the root-software's config files to point to the Android ones at startup.
Or even better, leave both file sets on there and create a startup menu that would allow the user to choose if they want to boot into Bada or Android.
Dont beleive me ?
Go ahead, compare the files and file structures for the 'root software' area's on both the galaxy and the wave. they are the same, because both fones start up the same, the main difference is the platform it tells the fone to load after startup, and the driver settings for each fones hardware.
I hope this has helped,
as i was getting tired of seeing people say android on the wave isn't possible and never will be because they're 2 totally different fones.
Feel much better now i've gotten that out.
lol

Android as an OS for non-phone devices

Hello,
First off, apologies if I have posted this in the incorrect forum.
The company I work for is looking to update one of it's product lines and has been toying with the idea of using Android as a development platform. Up until now the philosophy has always been to develop simple, bespoke embedded software that provides only the functionality that is needed at the time. The device itself will be a medical device, and as such will have no telephony requirements (and associated things like contacts, calander and the large majority of the pre-installed Android apps).
I have read, and understand it is possible to re-compile Android from source and remove all of these non-required functionality. My question is really if that is worth doing? i.e. stripping out all un-needed applications that get build into a stock ROM. Or would it be a more efficient to use some form of OTS embedded Linux platform?
Something in Android 4.0 that does seem to be useful is the support for Bluetooth HDP.
Kind Regards,
Simon
Well there are other devices that aren't phones that use Android. Take the motoactv for example. It's a fitness watch that runs a stripped version of Android, but it's still Android and applications can still be programmed and installed to it.

[Completed] Outform 15.6" iDisplay Android Tablet

Picked up one these tablets its a commercial built android tablet running KitKat 4.4, this has a bespoke install specifically for retail management in the form of integrated MokiManage software. While the software can be turned off and your left with a big standard Android tablet (seriously the onscreen keyboard is massive), i would though rather have a standard android install than one with features enabled & disabled according to the manufacturer requirements.
It is possible to access the recovery to implement an update but;
1. Would it be possible to replace the bespoke install with a standard KitKat ROM?
2. Its brand new & built to withstand Saturday morning kids playing whack a mole on it, would YOU risk bricking it?
Hi!
I can't find anything at all on xda about that device. You could try a Google search, or try asking here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
I really doubt you can do much with it though. You would need to have something created for your specific device, and I can't find anything.
Good luck!

Quest 2 Emulator to play Quest games on other HMD's

[email protected]
I just wonder if there is one.
When there is nothing is it possible to get the "oculus os/android" working on Qemu with kvm or something like that? Normal Android already runs on Qemu so is there a possibility?
Unfortunately not, as Oculus has not released the source code for the OS. We'd need that to compile it for Qemu's "Goldfish" target (ARM64 cannot run on x86_64, and vice versa, without tricks). Since we don't have any of that, not even a device tree, it cannot be done.
Android-x86 is a compiled version of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for x86/x86_64, so that version of Android is binary compatible with your PC and QEMU, normal ARM/ARM64 copies of android are not. We also cannot simply take the OS from the device and plant it into QEMU as, once again, they wouldn't be binary compatible and the OS on the Quest 2 wouldn't have the drivers needed to run on QEMU as it would only have the proprietary blobs needed to start the HMD.
Hmm, I was hoping for some kind of quest 2 Android SDK myself, so I could try out a few features myself, but it's not THAT important. Was kinda hoping I could test the OS and built-in apps a bit before buying it. Yes, I have a standing offer to borrow a friend's quest 2 for a few weeks, but it's honestly more work than it's worth, to do that, because he lives something like an hour away. If he was right next door then sure, but he's not. He also lives in a group home on a caddy waiver, so there's all these rules he has to follow which makes having friends over a pain, as I can only be outside or the garage, and not in their house.
There's so many things that I really would like to look at before purchasing one, just in the OS and settings, like how adding your own figures to the home environment for instance, and all the multi screen things that oculus seems to be adding. Not to mention that I'd also love to try out sideloading apps, which really almost requires prior knowledge as it's a bit different than normal sideloading I'm given to understand. All of this stuff is something I would love to try without having to potentially brick a working quest 2. And yes I know that nothing on a quest 2 should brick from any of that, but still, it's not a known entity to me, therefore the caution, to my mind at least, is worth it, considering if something happened I'd have a 400$ paperweight

Question Android Studio for GW4 watchfaces

Newbie amateur dev question. I want to use Android Studio to develop a watch face app (not just a Watch Face Studio customization) for a GW4 that I'm about to buy (I've previously used Tizen Studio for similar Active2 projects). I selected New Project, Wear OS, Watch Face, Kotlin. That creates what looks like ready-to-go code for a simple watchface. I started an Android 11.0 Wear OS 3 emulator and built the project (debug variant), following the instructions to first set the Launch option to Nothing.
I then clicked Run. The app installed on the emulator (it's listed under Settings, App Info), but it does not appear in the list of available watch faces, so I can't run it.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong (or where I should ask if this is the wrong place)? This is literally my first attempt at anything with WearOS.
Android Studio Bumblebee 2021.1.1 Patch 1
emulator: Android 11.0 Wear OS 3 - Preview
More generally, is there a tutorial somewhere for using Android Studio to develop apps for the GW4? The Samsung Developers site just points to the Android Developers site, where I don't see anything specific to either the GW4 or to Samsung. Is there a specific emulator to use for the GW4? How do apps need to be signed to run on the GW4? Etc.
You have own GW4 for tests?
I ask because without own device harder...
Samsung offer remote... RTL Service with "real" GW4 device(s)...
Galaxy Watch - Remote Test Lab - Samsung Developers
RTL(Remote Test Lab) allows users to install and test applications over the web.
developer.samsung.com
More stupid Questions...
Windows User?
This is all I found on Youtube.. but he seems Linux ..

Thanks, adfree! No, I don't have a GW4 yet. I was hoping to explore how easy it is to port my personal apps from Tizen to WearOS before I decide to buy one. Usually I find it easiest to debug everything on an emulator before trying on the physical device, but the RTL Service sounds like a good alternative, so I'll take a look at that.
Yes, I'm on WIndows, but that video still looks like a helpful resource.
I've actually gotten hello-world apps to run on the WearOS emulator. It's just the watch-face app that I'm having trouble with, since for some reason it does not appear on the emulator's list of watch faces to launch.
