I've been having a strange problem over the past week where Google Latitude would randomly disable itself for no reason, and cease updating. I only noticed this because my battery has been lasting well over a day.
I'm running CM9.0 RC0 (the 4.0.4 build), but for the first week or so it has been fine, so I don't think it's the ROM at fault specifically. I don't have any task killers installed, and there's always plenty of RAM free (I don't have much installed). I don't have any over/underclock or over/undervolting applied either.
It's almost like something is forcing my device to stay asleep, as other things don't update either whilst it's asleep. Emails still come through, as do calls and IMs, so I don't think this can be the case either.
Does anyone happen to have seen this kind of behavior before and know what may be causing it? I'd rather not just do a wipe/reflash to try and fix it, as I'd like to know what's causing it first so I can potentially avoid it happening again in the future.
Did you ever find a solution to this problem. I am running 4.2.1 on my Nexus 4 and Latitude keeps disabling Location Reporting. I don't notice until a friend tells me. It's very frustrating.
I am completely stock, unrooted, so I doubt it is to do with your ROM.
Me too!

Me too.
I'm now on 4.2.2 and it's still doing it. I installed Backitude today... let's see if that will function as a workaround.

I'm have a stock 4.2.2 Nexus 4 and see this problem frequently also. My wife complains she can not see where I am and when I check I find location reporting has turned itself off again. Very annoying. Her iPhone seems to be able to keep latitude location reporting on!
whenever i copy/paste, the app crashes.
whenever i try and use GPS and a run tracking program, it takes a LONG time to find a lock. sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. then, sometimes mid-run i will lose the signal, when my Droid Incredible would be strong in the GPS area during the same running route.
Will Verizon's newest OTA fix any of these issues?

Bump, on cm10, but can't post there. My phone will often show me running parallel to the highway I am on. Or jump around g maps randomly.

You can use gps test to clear your agps and let it resync will probaly fix the gps issue. As for the others I dont know.
As for the latest OTA, it corrected the "no sim" issue, added remote connection for support, and a new radio iirc. No gps tweaks.

Thanks. I tried GPS Status & Toolbox and cleared/redownloaded the aGPS data. Should be the same thing, right? It didn't help. I flashed Bean's ICS ROM last night, so I'm going to give it a GPS workout on the highway tomorrow to see if it makes a difference. If not, isn't it likely the phone itself? Can a software GPS issue follow you across ROMS?

I have been paying close attention to this issue and this is what I have come up with... On a stock (non-rooted) Verizon galaxy S3 I can lock indoors and even after rooting I can lock indoors. It is always after I unlock that damn bootloader that I start getting the gps issues... It still works but it is flaky! Gotta have the thing in clear view of the sky almost always... I say this cause I have had 3 different refurbs for the VZW S3 and so I tested my theory and to back it up I also have an at&t S3 and a T-mobile S3 and they don't require you to unlock your bootloader and I NEVER have had any issues with those models...? I really think it has something to do with unlocking our Verizon bootloader.... IMO Like I said, I have done extensive gps testing and this has been my only idea of what is borking the I535's gps signal strength or lack thereof! I can lock in my brick house with both of my other S3's but the Verizon model is **** as soon as you unlock the bootloader... I have played with just about EVERY app on the appstore and different mods on xda and some have made it better but nothing compared to the others.... Can anyone else chime in and let me know what you think...?
well, I installed the ota, but no fixed on the copy/paste and GPS. Went on my run and it didn't find a lock until the 3rd mile. I guess they will be sending me a New one. Maybe I'll try to root it and unroot Just to preserve my game data, etc. Can I still root it with this new ota? Never rooted before.
I might not root, in which case is have to transfer everything from the internal storage to a Harris data hard drive?

Well, mine took a long time to lock this morning. But it has been accurate all morning, which is improvement. I was having trouble with getting a lock before putting a ROM on, but I can't recall Having any issues before rooting, which I suppose does mean I pit a ROM on, really. But then, I rooted before I really had it long enough to test the GPS. Please post back if you try rooting the ota. Because if I keep having issues with GPS, that is my next step too.

First post on XDA!
Now to the GPS issue...My S3 had the same type of issues being described in this thread. My gps would take a LONG TIME (5-20+mins) to lock in and if it did lock in then sometimes it would have me driving along a road parallel to the road i was on and i would hear it trying to get me back onto the road i was already on. I talked with Verizon tech support in this issue and the person i talked with just took me step by step to try to nail down the issue. i told him i already tried GPS Status app with resetting AGPS and downloading a new file but that never really helped. So he had me hard reset the phone with holding power, home, and volume up after the powering off. We opened the Maps app that came stock with the phone and it didnt lock in in the few mins that i had it open. Then we downloaded the newest Maps app and tried locking in again...no luck. I was also not receiving the OTA update (phone was always stock and not rooted) so we checked for that through the setting on the phone and i still couldnt receive it. Before all this happened I already talked to Verizon support and they had send me a refurbished S3 a few days before i made the call to tech support. So i told the guy that the refuribished phone that i had received got the OTA update as soon as i put my SIM card in the first time i powered the phone up and i havent had an issue with the GPS on it. He wanted me to just double check the firmware and the GPS signal on both phones and he said there was definatley something wrong with my original phone so that phone was sent back.
So i would suggest just calling the carrier and have them send out a new phone for you if your having GPS issues.
they're sending me a new one, the tech service guy on the phone has a gs3, and he didn't have any of these issues, so they are replacing it.
hopefully it doesn't have this issue...
now i gotta find a way to save all of my game data...
I had this same GPS issue and I found a post that seemed to fix the issue.
Go to Google Services Framework in application manager and clear all data. Then go to Google in application manager and clear data plus uninstall updates. Reboot, installed google update, and now my GPS locks on within seconds. Good luck, hope this fixes your issues as well.

I saw the post on this and tried it but it didn't help my phone.

thanks, i tried clearing those places, and while i couldn't find "google," i cleared "google maps" and hoped it would work, however, it did not.
Verizon is sending me a new phone, hopefully this phone will be better...
Fwiw, mine seems better now on beans ICS rom
So, I picked up my N5 last summer. It's the first android phone I didn't feel like I had to root to get everything I wanted out of it, but after updating to lollipop OTA I've found wifi reception is TERRIBLE, often it would be preferable just to use my cellular data connection; I've read this is a common problem too. Unfortunately, doing this, I find I hit my data cap occasionally, which is a gigantic pain in the butt. I've read that I can downgrade to the version of kitkat that the phone shipped with, but that's kind of like fixing an ingrown toenail by cutting off my foot.
Does anyone know if cyanogen fixes this? If so, that would be preferrable to rolling back version.
Don't know about that WiFi bug. Never experienced it on my phone and neither do I experience it on CM. But if I remember correctly some guys also posted about this issue in the CM thread...
"I've found wifi reception is TERRIBLE"
What does this mean?
Fewer bars on the wifi icon? Wifi connection times out a lot more? Slower speeds?
Fewer bars doesnt mean that the connection is worse.
Timing out/slower speeds might be due to several reasons. TCP/IP tunables, apps using up traffic/opening up ports...
Hi,
ever since I updated to Lollipop 5.0.2, activating WiFi takes a lot longer than it used to on KitKat. I usually switch off WiFi.
On KitKat, after tapping the WiFi icon it usually took no more than 2-3 seconds for the device to activate WiFi, find my network and get connection.
Now, on Lollipop 5.0.2, it never takes under 8 seconds, often even longer.
How can this be? How can they mess up this apparently simple act and make it so much worse than it was before?
I bought my Moto G in early 2013 (in Germany). It is rooted but I don't think I have done anything special to it. For this last update from KitKat to Lollipo I could not use OTA, though, and the only way to make it work was to install the Brazilian stock ROM (could not find a proper European one). Systemversion says 220.21.28.falcon_umts.Brasi.en.BR
Is the Brazilian ROM the cause of this problem?
Either way: How can I fix this?
I also have that problem.
Getting it connected on University takes like 15 seconds. 8 to turn Wi-Fi on and the rest to actually get connected to it.
Turning of the Wi-Fi is a lot slower than it was before.

Do you also have the Brazilian ROM?
Nope, stock EU 5.0.2 over here.
Too bad I don't know anyone else with the same phone 'cause I would like to check if the problem's on my phone or if it happens with everyone.
It's also kind of a bummer that no one else posts here...
Hi,
The GPS on my Oneplus One appears to be very close to broken after the OTA update to 5.1. My phone is completely stock - ie not rooted, locked bootloader, the whole lot. Everything else on the device works beautifully.
I've searched around and it doesn't appear to be a very common problem with this phone.
The GPS worked flawlessly on 4.4 and I think on 5.0 (was only on 5.0 for a couple of days before the 5.1 OTA came through).
Using GPS test I can see 32 satellites, but it will very, very slowly fix to 7 or 8 and sometimes get a lock, mostly not.
Is this something anyone else is finding, or has a fix for?
I'm not against rooting and flashing another ROM, it just seems a little overkill when everything else works so well.
Thanks in advance for any help...
Did you tried GPS Fix from Playstore?
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
^^^ Yes, often resetting and downloading new AGPS data can fix this. I use GPS Status & Toolbox.
Thanks guys. "The GPS Fix" app sorted it out. I'm not sure what it actually does behind the scenes but I'm getting a solid lock instantly now.
Is this something I'm going to need to do periodically, or after a reboot to keep it working?
Cheers...

I travel a lot internationally and only have to do it when I go to another region. Once I'm in a region for a while, I just leave it alone.
This is what I used http://ejvyas.blogspot.com/2015/10/one-plus-one-bacon-gps-fix.html
Did it work well long term?
I thought I'd fixed this with the apps mentioned earlier, but it's still pretty poor. 30 seconds plus to fix and then drops out constantly...
Same issue here.. It started after the last update..I travel for business and I use the phone to plan my route.. Last trip had great weather yet horrible drop off. Hasn't gotten any better since..
