Help choosing device - General Questions and Answers

Hello all. I am unsure if this question belongs in this sub-forum. I have been through the QUESTIONS DO NOT BELONG IN GENERAL post, but i think this is not a Q&A.
So the reason i have this question is that im at a standstill. I was set to buy the Nexus 6, but the size and price made me change my decision.
Anyway, now i have rethink and im undecided between the Nexus 5 and the Oneplus one. The main reason im undecided is related to roms and software.
By looking at the N5 sub-forum here in XDA i see thousands of posts when compared to the OPO. I am worried that even though being a bit less heavy spec-wise the N5 might keep more developers working on it then on the OPO. Therefore more roms and software for the future.
Related to hardware i know the opo has better specs. Rounding up the HW differences what makes me undecided between the two is the RAM and the better battery life.
So iam currently stuck between these two phones and ill have to make a decision soon, i will be buying one of these in about two weeks.
Thank you for everyones help.
Best regards

you can go for samsung note 4 it`s so good

personally, between those two, I'd go with the Nexus 5 (just barely) for the exact reason you said: dev support.
Now if it was Nexus 6 and Oneplus One, I'd go Oneplus no question because of the price difference yet great specs on the One.

not matter what ,if i want to buy a new phone ,i will buy the latest
model for certain brand,if the latest model cannot satisfy my needs with their
price or size ,i will go for the latest model of other brand .that is my suggestion,
guessing samsung latest model is good .

The One Plus One is an exceptionally good piece of kit for the price and runs cyanogenmod which is a fantastic OS

Hello everyone and thank you for the replies.
I have decided to go with the One, i have been going through lots of forum posts lately reading from persons who changed from N5 to One, and in the bigger picture most ppl are calling it a good decision and a improvement.
It seems to me that the N5 is really a good phone, and imo its a better looking phone then the One, but following all my readings, the screen and the Ram in the One make a solid improvement over the N5.
Regarding my biggest concern, the software devs, well im just going to have faith in the One community. The device already runs one of the most popular roms and i have recently found out that the One is a supported phone for the franco kernel.
All in all i think im doing a good decision.
Right now im crazily sourcing funds to buy it, while i wait for my invite...

Choose OnePlus , it's a monster .
I personally like the Stock Interface more than custom UI's .

Which phone would you get for 240€/320$?

Hey guys, I dropped my old smartphone (LG L9) into the toilett and will get money from my insurance company to get a replacement phone. The amout is mentioned in the title. Now my question is, which phone would you take and why? I personally would **** to have the Moto G for its' quite good specs and reviews, although I am a bit concerned taking a Motorola smartphone... just due to their history now. It has pretty much evrrythjng I need. A decend camera (I know, not the best), very good battery life, fm radio, a good screen, which is also not too big and fits in my pocket nicely and also has a lot of support on the custom ROM side. Because as many other here, I tend to suffer from obsessive ROM flashing disorder how about winstupid phones? Are they stkill that bad? Oh and no I dont want to have an iPhone... I currently have the ... lets call it pleasure to use one. Definitly not my type of phone
So feel free to post your suuggestions or move this thread to wherever it belongs

Hi, @android.4.0,
A much better and proper place for this question to be posted would be the designated device recommendation thread. If you re-post your question there, you'll almost definitely get more answers from people who know what they're talking about.
Thanks!

Does a new 2015 phone outlive a new 2014 (or older) one?

Hello XDA!
My faithful Galaxy Nexus is finally showing its age and is starting to malfunction, so it's time to look for a new one - and I'm continuing with the Nexus family. I can afford a new Nexus 5X or a new Nexus 6, and I'm leaning towards the Motorola, but I am worried that the LG is a better choice in the long run.
To make it clear, I don't care for the latest Android. I know the 6 will stop getting updates before the 5X does, but there are always custom ROMs. My question is whether the 6 will start having technical problems (signal issues, battery death, camera & OS issues - like my Galaxy Nexus has) before the 6 would, considering both of them are mint condition. Does the phone stay in "cryogenic mode" until it's used by someone, or is there some sort of "planned obsolescence" that will make older phones fail sooner than new ones?
Thank you!
P.S.: If it is off-topic/forbidden, please ignore this. If you prefer the 5X to the 6 due other reasons than being newer, please let me know why. I'm not 100% sure which one to get. AND, the Nexus 6P is out of budget.

Help finding a good phablet (6+ inch phone)

before anything let me say to the mods that i searched and there was no thread relating to my need. the recommendation thread doesn't fit my question so i hope this doesnt get deleted.
so, i currently own a huawei mate 7 which i somewhat hate but since i got rid of my nexus 5 late last year i have no choice but to use it. luckily there are new phones available now and later so ill hopefully have at least a few choices.
at the moment im looking at the oppo r9+ but i would really appreciate as many suggestions as i can get. the recommendations need to be of phones that are 6 inches and above. ideally with a snapdragon soc and hopefully with custom rom support. my current discontent with my mate7 is the lack of custom roms and thats due to huwei not helping by releasing sources.
i plan on waiting to buy my next phone till after i do extensive research this time around (never again huawei!..... NEVER AGAIN!!) so suggestions about phones possibly coming out next year are ok. thanks in advance for any and all help!

Which phone best replaces/improves on the Note 4?

My note 4 has reached it's end of life for a multitude of reasons, mostly due to being dropped too much. I've very much enjoyed it for the last 2 years.
While I do not wish for this to be another "what's better thread" I know some of you are much better versed with the current smartphones with the best internal components for the money. So far I've come across the pixel XL, HTC 10, and the Mate 9.
Budget isn't a concern, nor is carrier as I'm sure what I'm looking for has multiple radios. I just want to know what to buy and flash so I'm not wasting time reading reviews and looking through development forums.
tl;dr I want another 5.5-6 inch screen phone with the same 4k screen and camera capabilities, as well as the best processor and ram in its class. Aftermarket ROM development is also an important factor. Pixel XL is looking the best so far.
much appreciated
