Boot Up! Why - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why does it take so long to boot up the tablet? Its as bad as the first generations androids and blackberries.

Do you constantly turn it off? I'm fine with the boot time since I really only reboot it once a day

Yeah since battery only last about 6 hours I'll run till it dry. I'm actually pretty disappointed in it. Wished I would have kept my nexus 7.

Both devices are "slow" on boot. How long does it take?

[Q] WTF just happened?

I have had my S3 for about two months now and it has been rooted the whole time. The stock ROM finally annoyed me enough to try a new ROM. I installed Rootbox then Pacman, but they both just sat on the boot screen for about 10 minutes before I pulled the battery and gave up. I tried installing MIUI which went well but as soon as I hit the 'restart' button, the screen went blank and now the phone won't turn on. The battery is fine, I tried the known good one out of my wife's S3.
Is there any hope here? Any chance I will be able to get it swapped out at Verizon? Am I just f'ed?
Just for the record because I know it will be asked: I am have installed many ROMs on my old Droid X and I did follow directions for these installs. MIUI even had the wizard. I do have a nandroid but since I cannot turn the phone on at all, I can't get to it. I cannot get to download mode or react when I plug the charger in. I can't even get the thing to vibrate when holding down the power button...as far as I can tell it is COMPLETELY dead.
Thanks for the input.
Pull the battery and try again. If that doesn't work plug it in and see if it charges.

i fried a gsiii and got a replacement frpm big red. just tell them the OTA did it. if it can't turn on they can't check what you've done until it's too late. bring it in asap and have a sob story about how the update destroyed your phone... it worked 2 days after the jelly bean update for me.

No dice on both fronts.
Thanks Bear, that is pretty much the plan so far.
Any response booting into download mode?

Does the screen flash for a second or respond for any amount of time when you try charging it with or without the battery? Our is there no response at all when you're trying to charge it,?

No problem. They will give you a replacement as long as there is no physical damage to the phone... Good luck!!

Did you flash a rom for the i9300 version of the phone and not the i535? I did that and hard bricked my first s3.

cromi but it was long before i swiched to it, i do have a lot of apps but not sure why it takes soo long to load

The amount of apps will slow your boot time down for sure. I've got quite a few apps on mine and boot time is around 2 1/2 to 3 minutes for complete boot up. Also, I'm running CROMI with Unters TF300T Kernel.

thats the same set up as me, i know there are start up managers but ive got no idea what to do with them
Startup manager pro. Very easy to use. Simply uncheck what apps you wish to keep from running at boot. Shockingly there are a lot. Stupid developers.

Autostarts is another one that allows you to choose which apps start at boot. Just be very careful what you disable and make sure you make a recovery backup before you start. Ya know, just in case you disable the wrong thing. Lol. It can and will lock your phone/tablet up.

Touch not working

Anyone ever hear of finger touch being unresponsive while S-pen functionality remains perfect?I don't mean you have to thump it to get it to recognize a touch,I mean NO TOUCH WHATSOEVER....zilch zero nothing.....I've flashed stock ROM,checked settings in every app that could be involved... I'm baffled. This Note is about 9 months old.Daily driver is Jamison's AOKP JB 4.2.2

Sounds like the capacitive touch digitizer is bad.. This has nothing to do with the s-pen digitizer ...Have you dropped it or banged it around much. Maybe its a loose connection ... Just thoughts. but 8 months old its under warranty still. Call samsung.. Boohooooo

Was the tablet connected to charging? If yes take off the charger and try.
Remove tablet from any magnetic case amd try again as well.

Well I tried those things unfortunately they didn't work Thank you for responding though .went ahead and ordered a new digitizer on Amazon there's a rather long video showing how to repair it.wish me luck

You are MOST DEFINATELY gonna need it. Would be easier to restock and get fixed under warranty...
Well this guy video is ultra high def and it really doesn't seem that hard. I have the tools also. I flashed this thing about nine times I don't know if they would honor of my warranty or not. I realize I could use triangle away...

Screen blurry

I was playing candy crush earlier and my screen just started turning white and really hot so I took battery out right away. After I turned it on the screen is all flickery now. I thought it might be the ROM since I'm running g paranoid android but when I went into recovery mode even twrp looked blurry. Any suggestions? Kinda hard to tell but I took a couple pics of the screen.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Forgot to mention that the screen is cracked but its been this way for a couple months now and has never gave me a problem.

Verizon 4.3 Odin File.

Ok so I'm already on 4.3, but I think I may have messed something up. Is it ok if I flash the 4.3 firmware with Odin to get back to plain stock. Here is the file:

Yes, it just erases /sdcard and restores you to OOTB factory settings.

Ok because I'm having a bad battery issue. Won't stay charged long and charging is unbelievably slow. Like 1% in 30-45 minutes. It's a brand new phone!
