[Q] Stuck in boot loop after factory reset - CWM works - need help - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here are the particulars.
rooted
Display JZO54K
Fingerprint = motorola/tervigon/wingray:4.1.2/JZO54K/.....
Loaded elementalx - xoom- v1.3 three months ago ran fine. Stupidly, I did not flash a backup. Now after deleting cache, factory reset, stuck in "loading apps" after splash, the boot loops back to motorola screen where I can launch CWM v4.0.0.4 - I want to get a ROM on there and continue using this mission-critical dinosaur. Can someone help?
I guess the real question is can a rom be copied onto the ext-sd card via windows out of the xoom? If so will CWM see it and will it work?
Have not tried connecting and using ADB. Not feeling confident enough at this point. ext SD still has data but when in CWM device does not show up in Windows.
TIA for any help
Geoff

I pushed a stock rooted rom via ADB (I found the internal sdcard is accessible via the ADB shell) . The stock rom showed up in the CWM select zip file list. Installed the rom and the xoom animation freezes then continues the boot loop - regardless of rom installed. Cleaned system cache and davik cache as well after factory wipe. I am beginning to think hardware issues. No amount of cajoling will get this thing to boot into its OS. Either memory or processor - when it worked, I did have it running incredicontrol and 1.4 ghz and the max memory limitation upped to 64MB in order to run a lecture player for school.

[Q] Accidently Wiped system and almost everything using Team Win Recovery Project v2

Was trying to flash the ICS ROM V5 but it got stuck on the boot animation. I did a factory reset, surprisingly it was still there. So i used "Team Win Recovery Project" aka "twrp-crespo-2[DOT]0[DOT]0RC0[DOT]img" in nexusshacks.com. I went in there to do a factory reset but i wiped the ACTUAL system instead. So when i reboot i am stuck on Google. Unfortunely i only had 1 back up which is in ClockworkMod, but i cant access that. I dont mind my lost files because i can recover that but i want my phone to work again. Can i copy the nexus s contents from another nexus s and place it in my SD and will it work? If you guys have ideas please do reply because i need my phone fixed asap. Bootloader unlocked and rooted using superuser.

okay,am not very familiar with TWRP but your problem doesn't seem that big,you wiped the /system which should not affect your USB storage data (even if you wiped the USB storage it's not a problem),try to boot into the bootloader (volume up + power button) then go to recovery, mount the USB storage and put a ROM on it,then just flash the ROM and your device should boot up normally,i think you weren't stuck at the bootanimation since when you flash a new ROM the first boot could take from 5 to 10 minutes.
i usually do a clean install before flashing a new ROM (format system, data, cache, boot) and the device just boot up normally after flashing the new ROM so it's not a problem if you wiped your system just flash a new ROM.

I did this same thing a few weeks ago. I just had to reinstall everything (including the recovery) from fastboot. Worked like a charm.
I used the nexusshack tut to root my nexus had no problems.
You could go into recovery, mount usb storage, find the clockworkmod directory and copy that to your pc..
do a full data wipe and flash a new rom, then install rom manager flash CWM recovery . move the clockworkmod directory back to your phone. boot into recovery and restore you backup.
Just an idea .. not sure if it could work..(take no responsibility is it doesnt)

[Q] Bricked P5100? Help please!

My P5100 had CM10 nightly on it and was running fine until I upgraded to the latest version of CM10 after wiping the cache & Dalvik cache. After the upgrade I couldn't get Google Play to run even after wiping its data and fixing permissions so I tried to do a CWM restore. Unfortunately there was a fault restoring the Data partition and now my tablet is stuck at the animated bootscreen. If I long-press the power button it powers off but immediately restarts. There is no way to start in in recovery or flash mode. I've plugged it into my PC and the Samsung Android ADB interface is showing but the other references to the tablet all have a yellow triangle in Device Manager. I'm hoping some clever person can help me rescue the tablet with ADB. Thanks!

IF CWM is not working use Odin to flash CWM again then use CWM to flash CM10,
You may need to do a factory reset (full wipe) from CWM.
If all else fails use Odin to flash stock JB ROM

That's the problem - I cannot access download mode
UPDATE - it just started in download mode! I can manage from here!!
Just for the record you can install adb on the pc and run the command 'adb reboot recovery'. This will force the tablet to reboot in recovery mode.

Jeez, this has taken up most of the day to fix. I came across many problems I have not previously experienced:
1. When the tablet was stuck at the boot animation and I tried to turn it off by long-pressing the power button it immediately restarted. The only way I could get it to turn off was by long-pressing the power button whilst it was connected to my PC.
2. Flashing the stock ROM with Odin appeared to complete successfully but it would never fully boot, it always got stuck at the black & white Samsung screen. Same problems turning it off as above.
3. Flashing CWM with Odin caused the tablet to reboot into the stock ROM which would not load, in the end I had to untick the "reboot" button in Odin, power it off then manually restart with the Vol- & power buttons.
4. The only way I could get a bootable ROM was by flashing CM10 with CWM. I tried to restore 2 previous CWM backups but on each occasion there was an error restoring the Data partition and I got stuck at the scenario at (1). The backups were made to the external SD card with CWM Touch - is the Touch version unreliable?
I would be really interested if anyone could shed any light on any of this stuff!
For how long did you let it install during the first reboot? It happened to me too, and it took about 10 minutes, maybe even more...
Also, did you try in the "Mount and storage" cwm menu the options "format system", "format data", "format cache" and "format preload" options, prior to re-flashing a ROM? I have read somewhere that for a clean install it's better to do this, as it really clears everything that could mess up the system between two different bases ROMs (like CM and stock).
What I do everytime is using in CWM these 4 "format" options, plus "wipe" system, cache and dalvik, then immediately after this I flash with cwm the new "zip" copied on the card. Then the first reboot is much longer than usual, as at this stage it installs the files, rebuild the dalvik cache etc.
Good luck

I think I gave it a good 20 mins to boot. When I got up this morning there was an error message saying that there was no room to install any more apps even though I had very few installed. Settings -> Storage would not calculate the space available so I figured that the partitions had become corrupted. I did the step by step format you described and reflashed & it all seems to be OK now.

I believe that you have a bootloop... Can you tell us what is your bootloader version or firmware version? What is your TWRP version also? You may need to wipe your system to get it up and running again...
Thx LetMeKnow,
I'm using twrp 2.6.1.0. Bootloader number is 10.6.1.14.10-20130601.
When you tell about a wipe, full wipe with full install of the rom again? I will have to do a backup, data only is enough for apps installed?
thx

Your TWRP and firmware are good... I think that your data partition is corrupted and these are my suggestions..
1. In your TWRP, go to Advance and file manager, copy all your personal stuff to your external SD so you will not loose them when you format your data partition.
2. In your TWRP, do a nandroid backup of system, data, and boot
3. Try this first, Wipe everything except your system and your external SD and reboot...:fingers-crossed: If your device is up and running then it is telling you that you have a data partition corruption.. So your data backup from TWRP is useless..
4. If step 3 did not work, then your system is corrupted..You may want to do these.
--Format your data partition
--Wipe everything except your external SD
--Reinstall Cromi x and reboot so you a totally clean installion...
--Now you can restore your data backup and hope that it is not corrupted
--Good luck ....:fingers-crossed:

It's not a bootloop if he's stuck on the boot animation. If it keeps booting back - then yes, but getting stuck on the boot animation has happened to me numerous times (and always when I was on a Hund's kernel - sorry LMK, but Hund's just doesn't work on my tab), which a simple Factory Reset (the default option in the TWRP "Wipe" menu) took care of.
If that doesn't work, then yes - you will have to format data.

The only way to diagnose the cause of "stuck at boot animation" (i.e. to gain insight instead of trying random things involving data loss) is to read the logcat.
Hello guys
Thx for all these infos. Finallly, it was the data...
Just before your answers, I've tried a wipe of cache and dalwik cache. Android's apps updated, and stuck again on logo animation.
So I've tried to update to 5.2a, with no format of data, the same arrived.
I've reinstalled the 5.2a with full wipe, and now it's ok (I will have to do it again, some options unselected are finally necessary. I will go back on 5.1.2 one if no update of 5.2a in the week.)
How can the data be corrupted? I remember, I've had installed an apk from googleplay, this apk can be faulty?
Thx
I seem to be having the same issue with the same version of CROMI and TWRP 2.4.4.0 so I wiped the tablet and put the ROM on a microsd to reflash. For some reason, I'm not seeing the zip file in the file manager or the install option. Please help.

Try with a microsd formated in fat32, this should help.
TF700 with Chrimi-x 5.2a
Hi Guys,
First post. I installed Chromi x 5.2a to my TF700 and it was working great.
I was looking at the options and it said I was using the 4.1 JB theme but I could switch to 4.2 Theme of JB. I did, and when my tablet restarted, I get a black screen and a bunch of errors once in a while.
Is there a way I can change it back to 4.1? I can't access the OS only TWRP.
Thanks!

Weird. I would re-flash the rom. It installs to the 4.1 launcher by default - but something is off... That shouldn't have happened.
Did you clean install CROMi-X?

[Q] CWM Loop in Galaxy P1010

Hello,
Installed CWM to perform a migration out from the factory original Frodo level.
Took a backup with it. When reboot instead of booting again the std Frodo level it keeps booting into the CWM recovery.
Tried to clear the caches.
Tried to download an exitrecovery.zip file (renamed as update.zip, moved into the removable card first and later into the sdcard by using the CWM USB mount), executed successfully but didn't fix the problem.
Restored the backup level performed at the begining, but still boots into CWM.
Any hint or procedure to get rid of it? Even just restoring everything back to factory levels (I'm afraid to do this drastic step and still get the CWM recovery screen when other alternative action might be applicable).
Thanks!!

Will not boot into OS

have an LG 290 with CWM installed 6.0.1.9 installed
When trying to reboot from either power on (with or without pressing the volume keys) or from the recovery menu, the phone boots into the CWR menu. It never boots to the OS. I have flashed with OptimusRS JellyCream Rom v2_p920 using CWR's install from internal SD card. I wiped the cache and dalvik, but It still keeps rebooting to the CWR menu.
Any suggestions on how to boot into the OS would be appreciated.

So from my past experiences, and from what I can tell, you're suffering from an issue I suffered from before.
I'd recommend immediately swapping to a new baseband for safety issues, and ROM support, and then working from there.
From what I understand though! You went to flash a ROM that wasn't completely supported for the baseband you're using, and this causes the following, or can cause the following errors.
-1. Phone will boot into OS, but no signal - FIX: WAP Points need to be fixed for your Carrier.(Can be found by an easy Google Search)
-2. Phone will boot up, but has a constant Boot Loop meaning the phone just keeps resetting itself, and never opens the actual OS, a few issues can cause this, either an improper ROM install, or the ROM IS NOT supported for the current device.
