some differences I found on 2versions of galaxy Note 4 - General Topics

Hi I just wanted to tell you guys the things I found while using two versions of galaxy note4. I brought my Korean version to us and now using both(exynos and snapdragon ). And then I found some interesting things!
1. Battery life.
Jesus this is so much. While I used my exynos when I was in Korea and found it weird that it lasts only for 4hours. This was the maximum. So I thought this is Because of the network since I used cat.6 in Korea. But when I bought t mobile sim card and used it with the exynos, it turned out the Same.
This is a very big problem since my snapdragon lasts about 6hours screen on time.
2. Heating problem.
It depends But hmm I think it's pretty much the Same for both But my exynos gets hotter when I charge it Lol. Yeah, I think snapdragon gets little But more hot in daily Use.
3. Camera.
Well I thought exynos was kinda not so good Because when I first got it, the module was from Samsung while snapdragon was from Sony...But after the update, my exynos is now saying it's from Sony imx 240(maybe, not sure). So I was like wtf? Lol haha But Yeah both are the Same module. So No worries.
4.performance.
When I played asphalt 8 Well they we're pretty much Same. But my exynos starts to get lagged?! It's just a little and it's noRmal after turning it on again. Lol
Yeah this is all, If you guys wanna know more, ask me. I MAYBE can let you know hahaha thanks guys!!

Is it still worth buying a galaxy s7?

Hello.
So I was wondering if the galaxy s7 still worth buying. It might be a asked question already, but since the time is passing, the answer might change.
So in my country there is an offer for this phone. It's on 2 year contract for #30/mo and you get the phone for around $55.
I am moving from a xiaomi redmi note 3 5.5" screen. A phone which is getting really frustrating since the mic stops working while talking.... The 4G connectivity also stopped working as well.... I was about getting the mi max 128 gb, but I'm happy I didn't.
Thank you in advance
Why would the answer change? Phone is less than 9 months old and no newer S series has been released since
Read the previous "Is the S7 still worth buying" threads
I was using xperia z5 premium and the audio jack broke 3rd time and i was pissed so after a big complain telco agreed to replce my z5 with any other model and i switch to galaxy s7 edge and i am very happy

My answer is YES , the reason is, the S7 Edge still THE BEST 2016 phone , and still the best on the market, no Iphone, no Sony , nothing equals its camera, screen, battery life, design, water resistance ... there is no a better chance, the S7 Edge is the best phone i ever had, and it still....or, wait until the S8...ON MARCH...( the S7 is only 8 months old! ! )
Thanks. I got the s7.
Nicr phone overall. I like it. I wish to have a direct wake up from the fingerprint like xiaomi and other models.
The camera is great.
Calling quality is great too.

is the snapdragon 835 s8+ worth the upgrade from an exynos 8890 s7 edge?

Hey guys. So far my s7 edge hasent let me down. Is there any reason to pay 1100 cdn for an s8+ when I bought my s7 edge back in nov 2016 due to the note 7 fiasco?

If you want a bigger screen, you can upgrade. You can watch you tube reviews and make up your own mind..
For me I think better to wait for the Note 8/S9

Keep your money mate! If you were coming form an older phone I'd say make the leap, but you should be set for at least another year.
It totally depends on your circumstances. If this and if that, only you know those answers ..

It really depends. There is more to the switch than just the processor. Antutu performance wise its about 25 ranks higher than the S7 Edge in overall performance. My roommate updated from the S7 Edge and likes it and I have both and prefer the S8+. If processor is the only factor for you then you can hold off for a while maybe window shop at your local store to see if you like it better.
bigger screen and the battery life are my two big favorites over the S7E. The fact the S8+ is also far less laggy than the S7E (which has to be a software problem since the Note 7 ran like a raped ape in comparison to the S7E and they shared the same processor/ram)
battery life is nearly double for me. Which is worth it alone.
All I know is my wife's s7edge is running like crap right now. Even cleared up some memory, moved all kinds of stuff over, reset phone and still slow and the battery life since nougat is horrendous. Weird, right when the new phone comes out.
I have tested the s8 and from when I had my s7edge it's definitely faster and smoother, but it's nowhere near the speed of my Mate 9. Should work for my wife, but not me.
Seems like battery reviews are decent, but so where our s7's when we 1st got them.

Looks like nobody has mentioned that if you LOVED the way Note 7 felt in your hands with symmetrical curves front and back then you will be right at home with the S8/S8+. It's every bit as sleek as the Note 7 was. Much speedier and actually more sleek due to not having any buttons on the front.... Only negative I've got is no s-pen. Will upgrade to Note 8 as soon as it's out . Once again, if this will be enticing enough on top of what everybody else has said, will be all up to you

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually utilize soc for linux packages and such so any performance boost is good. One reason I was hesitant is the 8890 still ticks well. Also yeah if the note 8 is coming this year I may get that one. I love my s7e but I miss the note. The S pen makes a good mouse too.
How's the s8 durabilty? I already shattered my s7 edge in december and the insurance gave me a brand new one. I already wasted 100 on two tempered glass because of case incompatibility. I would run no screen protector but I'm wary lol.
Also my s7e internal memory is running out since most of my apps can't be moved to sd card lol.
Idk it doesn't seem that big of an upgrade, that's why I asked.
Until the Note 8 comes out there is zero on the market to replace what the Note 7 performed. Our Note 7's where mini PC's and I agree the S-pen had developed over the years to become a mouse. I want a Note 8 and am looking forward to its eventual introduction. I think the Note 7 is a legend of a mobile and NOT for the negative reason but its positive capabilities. I have never missed a mobile with the exception of the Note 7.

Overall speed

Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy S8 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?

Yeah why not, samsung Galaxy S8 has been outstanding, because this was the time for samsung to grape their consumers back since the incident happened with samsung galaxy note 7(mod edit) of BATTERY EXPLOSION, best of luck to galaxy s8 and s8+
It's ok still has a way to go tho
I can say it, the phone is "fast", maybe not the fastest, but phone is fast, I've not used a galaxy series phone as my daily driver since Galaxy Note 2, however I've tested every Galaxy series phone, And with S8 plus finally I went back again to Galaxy series phone as my daily phone.. That's all I can say about it.
Coming from the S6, i can positively say that i have noticed an improved experience in terms of fluidity and multitasking. Really can't complain right now
Try setting your performance mode to game mode and the phone seems to be smoother and faster. Not sure if it's just a placebo effect though.
regarding to S5 - awsome

I can agree on this. I have been using iPhone 3 years now and finally i came back to samsung android camp with release of s8+.
It's fast but it ain't so smooth than i expected it to be. I mean for time to time when i use multiple apps at the sametime, it stutters and keyboard lags time to time too.
Otherwise it's really good.
Slows down a lot after some months. camera starts slow and is not reliable. RAM Management is ****ty for a flagship.

Same her. The slowest device i own.
Got to say I've only been using this phone for just over 1 week and the last few days it's started lagging already, which is a real surprise imo, had an S7 edge a year ago and it wasn't like this.
However after finding this thread I checked my mode and it was set to optimised mode, so set it to performance mode and will see how it goes.

thanks, tried that already but it did nothing. only thing what helped was a full wipe. for now it's much faster ( i asume for a month or so) but still lags more than my old 6P. Let's see if it will improve when they update it to android 8 next march.
disappointed
Bought less than a week ago, previous phone OnePlus3 - used for a year.
OnePlus 3 became slower than when i just bought it after a year because of all the stuff installed etc, obviously.
So this phone i have now(s8) - feels about the speed of OP3(after a year, not new) - and often times even slower.
Really disappointed.
I factory reset my OP3 to sell it, it feels like a lightning compared to s8.
I am afraid to think how this thing will work after few months...
Yes ok great display(feels smaller than OP3 though because of weird aspect ration, also more comfortable in hand, to be honest, but smaller)
Yes very good camera(reviews say, tried to take few pics yesterday, didn't see any noticeable difference to be honest, but ok may be i dont know how to shoot).
But except for that dont feel like it justifies the price.
The fingerprint sensor is amazingly crappy after OP3(again we are talking a 1.5 generation older chinese phone!!!)
I am really afraid after few months it will go real slow.
The only good thing since its galaxy i believe it d be easier to sell if want to later, compared to OP5 which would come way cheaper if i chose it.
I ll give it some more time, if i feel like its getting even slower i ll sell it and buy an OP5.
Honestly though, for that price they should be ashamed at Samsung for selling a phone that cheaper chinese brands easily outperform it.
I've been using my phone in "High-Performance" mode for a week now and so far so good, even though I've since found out that there is no boost from the CPU in this mode it seems much more fluid compared to the "Optimised mode".
Not fast. it lags and stutters and isn't smooth but it's ok! I think I can kinda live with it?!
The problem with this thread is that not everyone who is complaining bought the phone. Some just hate Samsung, some just write based on what they read on the internet.
Its a shame XDA has so many trolls atm.

Lol 6p was the laggiest garbage phone I've ever owned
Blows
I kicked myself for not jumping on to the Verizon 50% off deal on the Google Pixel 2. This Samsung S8 blows, it lags way too much after some use i have to close all the apps (at times not that many are running) or just restart the phone. I would have assumed for a flagship phone this would be a lot faster. I'll have to wait for another deal before I toss this phone and get a Pixel 2.
I would give a "quickness" rating of 3/5 if I consider the performances of the phone out of the box. I mean it's ok, but can get messy.
However, after flashing a decent rom and rooting the thing, debloating most of samsung crap with package disabler or equivalent, I managed to get something really really fast that deserves a 5 stars rating.

My opinion of the s9+ moving from a Galaxy s5

Hey all,
I wanted to make a quick rundown of my review of the s9 so far. I have the sm-g965u on T-mobile, I moved from a TMo Galaxy s5 that was rooted with a 7800mah battery. At it's peak i'd get about 3-4 days with moderate use but with 1 gig of ram moving to the s9 is a huge improvement. The speed of this phone is unbelievable. It's incredibly snappy.
My biggest issue is the battery life at this point, my battery info shows at 3500 mah but I can barely finish a day with light use with full battery. I never had this idle drain with my s5. It's 10:28am here and after 46 minutes of screen time, 23 minutes of waze i'm down to 86%!
I'm hoping once root and roms start getting pushed out for the U variant things start improving or Samsung fixes some stuff.
I am also coming from S5 and used it with the battery that came with it, 2800mAh I guess, charge it twice a day at least to keep it running, I have heard the same about S9+, the battery can only keep a day running. Samsung will definitely fix these issues in an update. Not sure when that will happen though.
Btw does the size bother you? S9+ is taller than S5, not sure if it will easily fit in front pockets of pants easily.
Good luck waiting for that custom rom...Because even on the GS8+ after a year there are no custom roms for the U model. For exynos, development could be amazing because of project treble.
Basically, don't get your hopes up. If you have an issue with battery (which to be fair you probably will), try and disable some of those apps with package disabler pro, install greenify and hope for the best.

I was actually really curious about that thank you for that, I'm guessing i'll find myself moving over to the OP 6 when it comes out and just selling this one.
So you've moved to a phone with a SOC that's probably 3 times as fast, has 6 times the RAM, a much bigger and brighter screen, and a battery less than half the size, and you're surprised it doesn't last nearly as long on a charge?

I had a pretty big thought process I was going to go with, but since I haven't picked up the S9+ will just say "sorryboutyou".
I have an S5 laying around here and had a Note 3 and 4 with extended batteries. I never saw 3-4 days EVER.
Treo 600 representing! That 650 upgrade was the bees knees though. Got that advanced coupon at the conference in Dallas and by the time they showed up from that "deal" I already had been using my Sprint one for weeks.
What on earth is going in here ? Lol ????????
I used S5 for 3 yars. Battery life is same as S9+ but S9+ is much, much faster and better at all.

Brand new SM-N986B/DS unopened box on my desk. Do I open it?

Having read all the arguments about Exynos vs Snapdragon I'm now thoroughly confused.
It also seems the U and O Snapdragon variants only cover some of the bands used by my telco (Three in the UK).
So, I can return this unopened box if there is a SD variant that works in the UK properly, or, if it's all a load of nonsense, I can open it and begin my Note 20 journey.
What do we say XDA?
Honestly I've seen the videos and I've seen the comparisons and it comes down to if you really want to go with the agreement that SD is better or take the semi Fair fair trade offs...
Dual sim and esim are not available on the US versions without tweaking the device.
Base storage is 256 vs the 128 we get.
However I noticed some of the exynos versions don't have all the 5g bands

Keep in mind this is just my opinion. DEX and a few other options worked just fine with my note 10 that I had and it was exynos.

Thanks, I've no need for dual sim or esim. Just looking at performance if it will work on Three in the UK. And realistically what difference would it make to me? Any at all I'd wonder.

Dual SIM is awesome for travel - personally, I don't want to go back to single SIM.
From what I've seen of the comparisons between the Exynos and Snapdragon, the real world differences are not that great (with the possible exception of battery life). There is even some suggestion that Exynos can handle 5G in both SIM slots whereas Snapdragon might not - but this is still an outstanding question in my mind at least.
That said, I elected to get the Hong Kong SM-N9860 (Snapdragon), as 5G isn't as important to me as performance, battery life, and dual-SIM capability. Plus, HK has Samsung Pay, so that works on the phone as well - if your phone is from a country that doesn't have Samsung Pay, it won't work.
Hope this helps.
Use it as a paperweight or to prop up your computer screen. That way the battery life will be better.

Battery life is terrible and it keeps dropping calls. I've had my one since release but have phoned for a collection and refund today. I've tried everything but it never gets 5 hours SOT. It's OK in standby but as soon as you start using it the battery percentage drops instantly. Signal is also poor on Vodafone UK but no problem with my other handsets.
Well so far not much love at all for the Exynos. I thought I'd have enough "yeah it's fine, crack on" type replies.
I'm surprised really, my guess would have been that it was basically ok!
I'm going to leave the box unopened and see what people say over the rest of the day and tomorrow!
I have the SD dual sim n9860.
Even the snapdragon has unsatisfactory battery life, IMHO.
I don't think Samsung test their devices for long enough before release.
This should have had the 7000 mah battery they are now starting to use, even if the device got thinker and heavier.

From what I have seen online, part of the issue is the requirement for a separate modem from the SoC, as Snapdragon is pushing (or being pushed to offer) a 5G solution that isn't quite ready for prime time. Adds a lot of cost too, mostly for the benefit of marketing.
I have the 986b it's fast

Well so far I'm on the verge of returning the phone. I can't find a single post on the internet saying yes it's ok compared to SD, mainly for heat, battery and apparently camera differences, noticeable with low light shots.
I don't think I've ever had a phone unopened on my desk this long ever!
Seen some comparison YouTube videos and tbh there isn't that much difference 5 or 6% on some tests and even the exynos came out better on one bench mark can't remember witch now but to the average user won't be noticeable battery life slightly better but again minimal I watched a run down vs sd and exynos exynos died and sd had 7% left so not much better anyway people moaning about battery its different for everyone depends on user and what doing and how set up I get quiet good battery with few tweekts hear and there and its simple just plug in to charger for 30 min and hay presto loads of battery plus we get 256GB and akg headphones so not all bad I've decided to keep mine now and its early days things will improve with updates as well was going to get galaxy z flip 5G but 3300mah and mediocre camera and hefty monthly cost £88 will stick with note 20 ultra its a beast and that bronze is ? i got a good deal out of voda 48GB data with entertainment no upfront £58 month should of been £78 and £49 upfront for just 24GB thats what it is now, but I was on a double data promo when I exchanged handset so she left me on the previous plan with 48GB Bonus [emoji106]

The performance is OK, no issues there. It's just the battery life that is horrendous. Having gone back to the Note 8 over the past couple of days it's actually better, but only has a 3300 battery. Something definitely not right with this phone. Could just be a bad battery but I can't be arsed going through an exchange and setting up all over again for the same thing to happen.

I think you might be referring to this comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHxRH8aYnUU
And I agree, it would appear that the differences aren't as great IRL as the benchmarks might suggest - I went for the HK SM-N9650 anyway, as it would seem to have the best of both worlds - Snapdragon (although jury appears to be still out on usability of 5G) dual-SIM, and 256GB storage.

Are you using 5G? I have also read that the separate modem will drain more battery as well as opposed to an integrated SOC solution: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/201...65-is-a-step-backwards-for-smartphone-design/

No, switched 5g off as we don't have it here, but no difference to battery life with it on or off.

That's what the article suggests as well, I believe - that there will be additional battery drain due to the separate modem regardless.

How horrendous is horrendous? Am on a SD Note 10 plus here, a US version I think which some days of moderate use can get quite low, others I can go to bed with 40pc plus left.

Well considering the s20 ultra had a 5000mah you would of thought the note 20 ultra would be getting into the 5500+ at least tbh , i had the s20 ultra as well and not alot in it still had to charge around T time for 20 mins just to last the evening on both devices and I've found that on most of the flagships with 90/120hz and WQHD its just a battery hog feature pretty much goes for S20+ S20 ultra Oneplus 8 & 8 pro , oppo find x2 pro all phones I've had and returned all the same need charge at some point to last the day the only phones I've experienced with decent battery is unfortunately Huawei p30 pro and p40 pro now they have excellent optimization and ram management got to give Huawei that one just a shame with all the ban crap no GMS or I would of hands down kept the p40 pro for sure excellent phone

Horrendous is just over 4 hours SOT. Boot up at 7am and empty by 4pm. Loses 10 percent battery in 40 minutes.
