[Q] VZW Note Edge Safe Mode - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi friends, hope all is well with ya. i have a question, for anyone else with a VZW Note Edge that they obtained on release date or shortly afterwards. does anyone else have a phone that's booting in Safe Mode, and will NOT exit out of Safe Mode whatsoever? I had some trouble activating it (despite VZW's simple instructions of just popping the new SIM in the phone and turning it on) so i got that taken care of, but even when I first booted it up initially, it was still in Safe Mode. There's a notification in the drop down bar stating, "Safe Mode is enabled" and to tap it to disable Safe Mode, which essentially just restarts the phone. and every time it boots back up, it's still in Safe Mode, which restricts any/all customization whatsoever, and what is the point of having a phone if you can't customize it. thankfully i still have my Note 4 handy if necessary, and i've backed everything up with VZW's cloud, Google + photos, SMS Backup/Restore for texts and Helium for my game data. i've done a battery pull, checked the settings, powered it off and on, performed a factory reset, and i can't find anything that will disable it, other than the predetermined instructions that Samsung has on the VZW variant page (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-N915VZKEVZW). turning to you guys first before i decide to harass customer service and/or take a trip to a VZW store to handle it in person. is anyone else having this issue? thoughts? ideas?

I got mine on the 9th. Booting normally after lots of restarts and tweaked configs. I'd go swap it out if you haven't already.

thank you. i did swap it out, turns out the down button was jammed completely, you could actually see that it wasn't at a perfect vertical angle when comparing it to my replacement device. so far booting perfectly fine, getting everything restored from Helium as well.

mytouch 4g erasing all screens

OK, so, i know the topic sounds confusing. But my wife's mytouch 4g's battery died the other day. so, we charge it up then turn it on only to find out that every widget, every app, etc is gone from the screen. all that is left is the live wallpaper. apps and everything are still on the phone but all the links to the apps and various widgets are gone. just blank live wall paper screens. so, she manually puts everything back like it used to be, rebooted the phone and now everything is gone again. WTF? anyone know why it is doing this and how to make it not happen? she is against installing any custom ROMs (i'm working on bringing her to the dark side of android). thanks for the help.

The first thing you should try before you do anything else is a factory reset. This sounds like a pretty weird software bug. If it continues, call T-mobile and have them send a replacement.
Is this her first Android? Is she restoring data and settings from another phone through the use of MyBackUp or similar programs? Sometimes using these programs to restore data can cause strange behavior like this, especially if that data is coming from a different device.
On first boot after the factory reset let the phone sit for a solid 5 minutes before setting up. There is first boot "thinking" going on...
EDIT - if you lucked out and got the "good" screen and don't want to warranty replace it you could always root and use the stock nandroid restore found somewhere in the mytouch 4g development section. I'm fairly certain that a factory reset will solve your problems though.
that happen to me.... power the handheld down and let it sit a good few minutes and then boot it back up... all the homes screens should be back to normal.
idk whats up maybe its a bad batch of MyTouchs T-mo recently recieved but i had to send mine back as it kept rebooting itself multiple times a day

How to boot up your phone in safe mode.

If your device are causing problems, you can enter the safe mode to troubleshoot the problem by
1)Turning off your device
2)Press the power button.
3)When the time the Samsung logo appears, hold down the Volume down key until you reach the lock screen.
Be aware that all apps installed are disabled in safe mode...

Yep, but sometimes it comes as a surprise, especially if you wanted to use a specific app but forgot that it was a 3rd party app.
Was quite a shock to discover this mode when I wasn't aware of it... Loosing approx. 350 apps is a shock... Luckily I saw "safe mode" on the screen before reflahing back to stock and starting again which is my fallback if things go wrong....

Yes when we enter safe mode there are only samsung garbage appear. I thought we all knew this. I knew it since i was on note 2. That's why i backup my touchwiz layout and data using titanium backup before i attempt to use the safe mode. Anyway im sorry if your phone goes wrong because im not giving the instruction very well

This is quite nice to know. Cant imagine yet though when it will be quite useful at least for me.
Safe mode is a way to boot up the phone when only original, factory installed programs load up. The most obvious reason to do so would be: lets say you install some new application and phone no longer works. With safe mode you can boot up the phone and delete offending app and be all golden in no time at all, otherwise the only option would be to wipe and reload everything anew, rather very time consuming proposition. In other words safe mode is trouble shooting tool and should only be used as such, with malfunctioning phone. It saved my arse quiet few times with my Win computer, and albeit I had no reason to use it on my phone yet, except for testing, it's good to know such option exists just in case.

Galaxy S6 Active Ultra Power Save (Brick) Mode

To start, I have lost access to the reaction video of my wife's first pregnancy announcement. So I would even be willing to make a donation to someone who can help me. (If that is against the rules, let me know)
I used an app from the Play store called Package Disabler Pro to disable some of the bloatware on my phone. In doing so, I disabled something necessary for Ultra Power Save Mode to function. (perhaps Touchwiz) I use Nova Launcher. I tried to show UPSM to a friend yesterday and was met with a black screen. The phone was still running, as I could get the notification window to drop down from swiping. But I had no option to leave UPSM in the settings. The settings that were listed were very limited. I tried everything and ended up soft restarting the phone. It booted back up into UPSM with black screen (no launcher). I finally started tinkering around with Recovery and cleared the cache. At some point, I don't know if it was caused by the cleared cache, it stopped booting fully. I now get stuck at the finished ATT boot animation.
I'm at a loss as to the next step. AFAIK there are no custom recoveries for Galaxy S6 Active yet. So pulling data from ADB in recovery is out. The only other option I have seen is a 'dirty' stock rom flash. But I don't even know if that is possible or will work. If there is anyone out there that has any clue what I should be doing, please help me. I need help. :crying:
Thank you.

I'd say give the stock a try. The stock tars for our regular S6 dont wipe data. Let this be a learning experience to backup important items to the cloud or thumb drive

Is there a distinction between using Stock Recovery to flash stock and using Odin? Stock Recovery warns that user data will be formatted. So I'm assuming that it wipes the user data partition. All that aside, does anyone even know how to get ahold of S6 Active tars?
Ah! I have this same problem right now. Note5. Haven't dug myself that far into the hole yet, and I somehow got out of nova launcher and into TouchWiz (safe mode boot probably), but im stuck in grayscale and can't do anything other than the limited settings options or make phone calls. No texting, internet, full settings access, quicksettings, or really any apps but contacts and phone.

Have tried starting the phone in Safe Mode? Thats what I'd try.
Try what sd_N suggested.
Turn your phone on by holding power button + volume down
When you get the samsung logo, release the power button but keep holding volume down all the way until you get lock screen.
If you are able to boot to safe mode then there's most likely something you have downloaded / something running during your regular boot that crashes / malfunctions.

I found a Solution for those who are still Stuck in Ultra Power Saving Mode.

Samsung S8+ Whole screen flashes red and blue with alarm and vibration

have a crazy situation - a number of times in the day at odd times the whole screen flashes red and then blue while vibrating and playing the alarm.
I do not think it is a virus and cannot figure out with what app this is associated with. I cannot associate it with any app directly. There is no message just suddenly starts flashing until I tap on screen or after about twenty seconds turns off

Yours is a great idea but these settings are disabled on the phone. Thank you for the suggestion however
Im having this same problem. Did you ever fivure out the issue?
After hard reset
Did a hard reset worked for about a month and in the last two days started again I have tried to Google and see if others have the same issue and there is nothing on the www. Crazy and absolutely have no idea what is causing it
Moto 360??
I am having the same issue. I also have a Moto 360 watch. I think there might a connection when the watch isn't in range the phone starts this panic behavior of red and blue. I still haven't found a solution....
What Fw are you on ? And do you have exynos or SD variant ?
I have a G950F and a moto 360 too and no issues so far ?
Same thing
This just started happening to me too. My only change recently was: I install an android wear watch hauwei 2 last week. I enabled developer mode to try and trace the cause.

I am doing the same with the Debugger (now), good idea. But I must admit, I don't know how to use the option on the Android to necessarily trace to a specific app.
I do know when I turn Bluetooth off the issue seems to go away.
Has anyone tried changing the network the device is trying to connect to? Let's say you have a GSM network, try setting it to GSM only. Vice versa for CDMA.
Same issue w/ s7 and note 8
I recently began having the same issue with my Galaxy s7 a d now with my note 8. The only connection is I've had my watch(fossil Q founder) connected to both. If I get out of range or disconnect from the phone via airplane mode etc. is when the phone loses it's mind. I think it's a feature in the event you might have misplaced your phone the watch is helping it be found(if that makes sense). I haven't found a way to disable this.
I had this Blue to Red flashing screen on my Galaxy S7. I could only operate my phone on safe mode, the virus or whatever this was drew the battery down while I was offloading photos and syncing the phone to the Samsung cloud. Then I only had approx 2% battery when I went to do the hard reset and before I could make it happen the phone lost power and I believe this virus prevented it from charging back up, essentially my cell died in 2 days from whatever this was. luckily AT&T is providing me a replacement but what an awful virus and what's to say when I resync the phone with Samsung it doesn't happen again?
Ok now, really?! You guys don't wanna tell me that since 2017 you guys are tracing this totally insane Homecomming ring plus red and blue screen flashes. So basically you living with this insanity since it's inception, and nobody knows what it is? I'm about ready to throw my phone into the garbage.
Any OS that is pre-Pie can be infected with rootkits that require a firmware flash to eradicate. A factory reset won't work.
Otherwise it sounds like you are introducing an app that is doing this after the factory reset.
If it doesn't do it in Safe mode... it's an app you added.

Data recovery/Phone recovery on bootlooping pixel?

My phone died last Wednesday and has continuously proceeded to boot loop ever since. Not sure if this is due to mother board issues, a recent update, lack of space on device, or malfunctioning apps?
I don't think its a motherboard issue though. I was pretty much at capacity 29gb usable of 32gb. I recently downloaded instagram and every time I used it the the system UI send a warning message and proceeded to crash every time, but the phone never boot-looped? I had recently updated to 8.1.0 and after looking at the android loading screen over 1000x now, I can tell that the animation is a little different from before.
The bootloop that I am experiencing isn't a load then restart loop it's just an endless load. With the the google 'G' and an endless loading bar beneath swaying side to side for hours on end.
Unfortunately I haven't backed up my phone in more than 5 months. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to get my data back (i.e. media, numbers, texts etc.) or potentially get my phone working again with the data intact?
I can boot into recovery mode perfectly. In the past google had a "clear system cache feature" on V7.1 I think? but that was phased out with more recent updates leaving me with the option of only factory resetting the phone. My phone is not rooted. I was wondering if there was anything I could do in the recovery screen that could mimic the clear system cache feature? Like writing some sort of command line or something? Or anything else that I could do to get my data back and my phone working again?
What are my options?

I think you can clear cache in fastboot. Not sure why you would continue to use an app that is crashing system.

That feature was taken out of the boot-loader by google in the past few updates. I'm currently on 8.1.0.
I was wondering if there was an alternative method that I could take in fast boot/recovery mode that could possibly give me the same cache clearing result? Possibly some sort of adb method or something? Also unfortunately my boot loader is locked. So If I can't clear the cache, I was wondering what my current options are as far as backing up the device before I inevitably have to do a factory reset are?
