Poweramp was going absolutely superb until I went for Android 5, I tried LiquidSmooth Official ROM, Candy5 ROM, bunch of other unofficial builds as well as CM12 Official build for my OnePlus One, whenever hearing songs, on variable intervals, I can hear a static sound cutting through the music, at times it comes up 6-7 times in a single song and extremely annoying, stays on for about half a second, i tried with different kernels, increased priority and buffer size in poweramp, nothing worked.
I tried with PlayerPro too this morning, same thing. Its not really the similar static noise to old televisions, but a different type of static sound.

On my international Galaxy S3 (stock everything), while playing music over headphones (tried several brands), I hear intermittent distortion, it's like a buzzzz or a spark. If you're a casual listener you could miss it. The duration of buzz/spark is for a fraction of a second. It occurs at least 2-3 times in every song. When I go back and play the part again, where the distortion occurred, I am not able to hear it. Oh well, I know the recording is clean.
I am not sure if it's got to do with the CPU cranking to cater to a different process. I tried keeping Wifi, bluetooth, data, ... all off. I also removed all processes via the task manager + cleared RAM.
Please help. I can't live with this issue since I am so much into music and very picky when it comes to audio quality.
Thanks a bunch.
not an earphone problem
i have the same problem precisely as you describe.the drop or interference
is so momentary that the first few times it happens i think its a hesitation
in speech or a minute pause inthe music.its enough to irritate or spoil the
full enjoyment of your listening.
i dont think its the earphones because ive tried a few different pairs that i know
work perfectly with other players including another Samsung.I think i may have
to request a replacement if it is a permanent feature.
Hi,
I'm on the final CM10.2.0 build (Dec 2 2013), MF1 firmware + ML1 modem, and I'm having a new audio problem that wasn't there on CM 10.1.2 before...
When I reboot the phone it pairs correctly with my car radio over Bluetooth, and Google Play Music plays my playlist just fine that way. Then when I leave the car, that becomes the only app that can do audio - Youtube, for example, is silent and in fact playback gets stuck 15 seconds into each video, then advances one frame every 20 seconds or so. Other apps like the alarm clock or phone ringer have no audio either. When I got a call, I had no call audio for the first 10 seconds, then suddenly it kicked in.
This persists until I reboot. Then all apps play audio correctly until the next time I get in the car and it plays over Bluetooth. Yes, I've checked my speaker volume levels
Also oddly, the first time post-reboot that I get in the car, it auto-plays like it used to. But subsequent times, I have to go to Google Play Music and hit Play manually.
Has anyone seen something like this? Searching hasn't turned up any similar problems.
Thanks!
Just to wrap up my own question in case others see this too -
The problem seems to be Google Play Music. After my OP, I flashed back to stock and back to CM 10.2.1, a newer build than I had before. With this clean state, I didn't do much except set up the car pairing, and within a few tries it was back to the problem. I started using Apollo and uninstalled GPM, and have been running for a few weeks without any problems.
I listen to music from my N5 a lot.
Before I got my N5, I used PowerAmp. This is not possible anymore, because certain audio glitches happen every roughly 5 mins (sometimes more/less often). The audio glitches can best be described as a short sound (not longer then half a second) that is a mix of a pop and some sort of electrical noise, IN the headset. Basically, very difficult to describe but incredibly annoying nonetheless.
Anyhow, PowerAmp is not the only player that has this audio glitch. N7 Player has the exact same problem. Oddly enough, both Google Play Music and Rocket Player does not have this issue what so ever. I've only tested these four players, but as stated two of them has this issue.
Does anyone know why this happens? And even better, does anyone know of a possible fix?
What I know the problem is not:
A problem with the audio file itself. I can experience the glitch, rewind a few seconds and it's not there when I listen again. Also using Winamp on my desktop has 0 audio glitches.
A problem with the headset. Tried this on my SoundMagic E30's and Razer Tiamat 2.2, both get it.
A problem with the "OK Google" hotword detection, turning this off did nothing. (Suggestion from PowerAmp bug forums)
A problem with the kernel/ROM. I've experienced this with PA, PA+ElementalX, SlimKat and Slimkat+ElementalX. Also tried Franco and Linaro at some point. (All based on AOSP, so maybe it's a problem with that, I dunno)
Everytime I play music... I've tried spotify and Play Music. There is a loud high frequency noise that happens for like .5-1 second frequently throughout the playback. This is through using headphones. It really interferes with the music. It's extremely obtrusive. This happened to many roms I have installed, but never really got around to asking for help.
I used to have that problem with the earlier builds of CM12 but they don't appear in the newer ones, however now it's too quiet to actually hear.
Have you gone into developer options and changed from Nuplayer to Awesome player (or vice versa)?
Same Problem here. On stock rooted ROM the problem was existent but not that often and annoying like on Temasek SM 4.7 CM 12 build.
Changed build.prop setting (can't remember the option and value)
Set screen off cores to two.
Installed Viper4Android with High Quality driver.
Changed from Nu to Awesome Player.
Nothing took effect. The issues are unpredictable and sometimes every 20secs and sometimes every 2 minutes...
I have the same problem when listing to audiobooks.
Tried changing av.offload enable to both true and false. dident work.
One thing that seems to have work is change minimum cpu frequency to something round 400 MHz.
I have the same problem with Temasek's 2.5.1 with stock kernel. Its very annoying and it comes on with screen off or screen on. Doe anyone have a fix for it?
I'm posting this based on my testing on various sources that the ZF6 sounds with my 3.5mm earphones sound different than my laptop, desktop, and galaxy S7. Desktop, laptop and my S7 sound identical.
Any rock song seem to be overly muffled on the ZF6 on my 3.5mm earphones and I can't seem to fix it. I have tried testing with various settings in AudioWizard and also tried disablling it to no avail.
Not sure if it was like this in Android 9 and also in Android 10.
Anyone else notice this?
I don't have any problem with audio. Have you tried another media player? I use Poweramp.

Tried different media player, youtube, twitch. Everything sounds off on the ZF6 compared to my mentioned examples.
Can you elaborate more about what exactly makes it sound off? Weird frequency response, some kind of sound effect, distortions/cracks? I will try to compare my phone once more.

Sorry, English is not my first language.
As far as as describing the problem, there's no inherent "problem" with the sound per se, but most songs I listen to on a daily basis sounds very different and off in a really bad way. I've disabled AudioWizard, and also tweaked with the equalizer, bass, treble in AudioWizard and nothing.
I've kept my best in keeping everything same for testing. Like, listening to the same song, using the same earphones, and pretty much tried my best in keeping things in stock settings and same across my laptop, desktop, s7 and zf6 as best as I could.
I think there's some funky equalizer setting that is muffling certain "tones" in music and I can't access it or something. I have no idea.
Not rooted/locked bootloader if that makes any difference. No funky app or add-on that could possibly affect this.
Edit: try listening to this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3x8geNo31yg
the first 30 seconds sounds so obviously different to me. If this is not the case for you then something is wrong with my zf6 whether by some setting or defective
I can't hear any significant difference between my Zenfone 6 and a Acer Laptop without EQs. The music is quite old and not a high quality one but other than that everything plays fine.
Hi,
I do not own a Zenfone 6 but did own a Zenfone 5 last year and listened to a lot of music. I was coming from an HTC 10(the brand I went back to).
I did experience issues with the sound quality on the Zenfone 5 both on the external speaker and through headphones. The problem being an eq setting (which I had no power over) that lowers automatically the volume when low frequencies (any kind of percussions or beats) played fom either a music player or streaming app. The result was a "wavy" sound where volume fluctuated in a noticeable way, plunging down when low frequencies kicked in (I guess it's a way to stay under a certain maximum dB level?). The rest of the frequencies sounded muffled and blended together. Basically there wasn't a good sound separation even through the headphone jack.
No setting on AudioWizard could solve the issue and it was widely reported on the ZenTalk forums.
I remember a software update which claimed to solve the problem but simply ended rising the max volume through the jack, mantaining the sound distortion as it was. I found no solution whatsoever and switched brand.
I don't know if this problem changed on the 6 but what you describe sounds to me almost exactly what I experienced on the Zenfone 5.
It sounds like there was an output limiter of some kind which was altering the sound to avoid speaker distortion. I didn't notice this on my Zenfone 6. I've never had an Asus before though.
I had several problems with the audio from the 3.5 jack after updating to andoid 10, especially with the fm radio. I had to downgrade to android 9 to fix it.
