Are you trying to wipe the phone or refresh a new ROM?
Can you try a different recovery?
What about a USB push?

I am trying to use the Wipe Data/Factory reset option. I have tried, ClockworkMod, CWM Touch and TWRP with no success. I am not sure if it has anything to do with flipping the internal sd card and external sd card

From what I can remember, you are not supposed to do a "Factory Reset." It has nothing to go back to. You are only supposed to wipe data and caches. If you can, reboot into recovery doing 3 finger, it still works, and reflash your rom. If you do the wipe data it will do what you need. The factory reset is a no no.

Not sure what you mean by that...
If you have a rooted phone with a custom recovery - or a factory phone and able to access their recovery...
Factory Reset should wipe the phone and user data and reload whatever ROM is on the phone - fresh...
If you have tried multiple recoverys to no avail...
You may want to try and reinstall your ROM and then do a reset...
If that still don't work - you are on Samsung right? - Grab Odin and push a new package to the phone and try that way.
Have you checked to see if your phone "Privacy" menu has a Factory Reset option?
Does that work?

In CWM, there is just one option to wipe data/factory reset. My ROM is working perfectly but its just that when i switch ROMS, I cannot do a full wipe. I have been flashing ROMs the same way for years now and only for past month I have been facing this issue.

I disagree with my experiences... Struggling for years with a Thunderbolt, I flashed tons of ROMs...
While I didn't like Factory Resets, I did do them from time to time to see if it would help (never did with the Thunderbolts)...
When I Factory Reset, even with a custom ROM, the phone was reset like factory - but using whatever ROM was loaded on the phone.

CWM has two mainstream wipes...
Wipe Cache - a menu option
Wipe Davlik - under Advanced...
Or it should...

I would say flipping the SD cards might be what is causing the issue. If you can, save whatever data you need and go back to 100% stock! This includes relocking the bootloader, which will FORCE ALL DATA to be wiped. After you do this, reroot and try again!
P.S. I believe you can run the fastboot oem unlock command without having to relock the bootloader. Again, this will COMPLETELY WIPE ALL DATA out!

Guys thanks for your inputs and help. Appreciated I found out the issue. For some reason /data does not get mounted automatically. I had to mount and then do a factory reset. That fixed the problem. Thanks again guys!:good:

I believe that you have a bootloop... Can you tell us what is your bootloader version or firmware version? What is your TWRP version also? You may need to wipe your system to get it up and running again...
Thx LetMeKnow,
I'm using twrp 2.6.1.0. Bootloader number is 10.6.1.14.10-20130601.
When you tell about a wipe, full wipe with full install of the rom again? I will have to do a backup, data only is enough for apps installed?
thx

Your TWRP and firmware are good... I think that your data partition is corrupted and these are my suggestions..
1. In your TWRP, go to Advance and file manager, copy all your personal stuff to your external SD so you will not loose them when you format your data partition.
2. In your TWRP, do a nandroid backup of system, data, and boot
3. Try this first, Wipe everything except your system and your external SD and reboot...:fingers-crossed: If your device is up and running then it is telling you that you have a data partition corruption.. So your data backup from TWRP is useless..
4. If step 3 did not work, then your system is corrupted..You may want to do these.
--Format your data partition
--Wipe everything except your external SD
--Reinstall Cromi x and reboot so you a totally clean installion...
--Now you can restore your data backup and hope that it is not corrupted
--Good luck ....:fingers-crossed:

It's not a bootloop if he's stuck on the boot animation. If it keeps booting back - then yes, but getting stuck on the boot animation has happened to me numerous times (and always when I was on a Hund's kernel - sorry LMK, but Hund's just doesn't work on my tab), which a simple Factory Reset (the default option in the TWRP "Wipe" menu) took care of.
If that doesn't work, then yes - you will have to format data.

The only way to diagnose the cause of "stuck at boot animation" (i.e. to gain insight instead of trying random things involving data loss) is to read the logcat.
Hello guys
Thx for all these infos. Finallly, it was the data...
Just before your answers, I've tried a wipe of cache and dalwik cache. Android's apps updated, and stuck again on logo animation.
So I've tried to update to 5.2a, with no format of data, the same arrived.
I've reinstalled the 5.2a with full wipe, and now it's ok (I will have to do it again, some options unselected are finally necessary. I will go back on 5.1.2 one if no update of 5.2a in the week.)
How can the data be corrupted? I remember, I've had installed an apk from googleplay, this apk can be faulty?
Thx
I seem to be having the same issue with the same version of CROMI and TWRP 2.4.4.0 so I wiped the tablet and put the ROM on a microsd to reflash. For some reason, I'm not seeing the zip file in the file manager or the install option. Please help.

Try with a microsd formated in fat32, this should help.
TF700 with Chrimi-x 5.2a
Hi Guys,
First post. I installed Chromi x 5.2a to my TF700 and it was working great.
I was looking at the options and it said I was using the 4.1 JB theme but I could switch to 4.2 Theme of JB. I did, and when my tablet restarted, I get a black screen and a bunch of errors once in a while.
Is there a way I can change it back to 4.1? I can't access the OS only TWRP.
Thanks!

Weird. I would re-flash the rom. It installs to the 4.1 launcher by default - but something is off... That shouldn't have happened.
Did you clean install CROMi-X?
Now it's my turn. Pressed factory reset by accident in boot loader. Can get to TWRP but it says E: Unable to mount storage
e:Unable to mount /sdcard/TWRP/twps. when trying to read settings file. etc...
Advanced File manager in TWRP shows /sdcard/TWRP
Any ideas???? If I try to mount data in TWRP my Mac wants to initialize.
Thanks
TWRP shows internal storage 0 mb
I flashed the stock recovery, then ran it and somehow it booted right into CM11. Everything was lost, but it's working again.
Factory reset wipe everything! Including SD card.

Possibly, but how come CM11 was still on there? I think that the Boot Loader in Moonshine's factory reset is not compatible with CM11. Luckily the stock recovery fixed things for me.

I had the same issue, pressed by mistake factory reset in bootloader some time ago. I was pressing vol down to reach recovery, there was a slight lag and I pressed it a second time the immediately I've pressed power...so cursor has jumped 2 rows then executed. I've solved it only by flashing stock recovery and resetting to factory settings again, then flashed TWRP.
Now why you still had CM11...well not 100% sure but in TWRP when you wipe to factory the system partition is not formatted. I've paid attention once to the messages during a wipe and it was formatting data, cache, dalvik and android secure but not system. A reason can be that while flashing any ROM, the install script formats system at the beginning so theres no need to do that with factory reset.
Now I can only think that the factory reset from bootloader does the same and system is not wiped. Theoretically it is correct...system is read only especially on a stock non rooted device and resetting it to factory practically means that any trace of personal settings/aps and so on should be erased. And those are not stored on the system partition. There is also no hidden place on the phone where a recovery image of the original android OS is kept so this is not like on the laptops where you reset to factory and Windows is reinstalled from the recovery partition. My guess is that the factory reset just wipes all partitions that contain personal data and settings and leave system intact. So after a wipe and reboot is like you first start it.
You still had CM11 cause the wipe didn't format system...If anyone has a better explanation I would be glad to hear it. So From my point of view nothing went wrong and has nothing to do with the Maximus recovery or it's compatibility with CM11. It would have happen the same if you have used any other stock recovery
Factory reset, resets youre phone to original settings.
Anyway, its good that the phone works.

Yes. And it is not formatting system when doing this. So any os is installed will be kept

I don't want to try it again but I wonder if moonshine's factory reset is incompatible with cm11?
Dont understand what do you mean by "incompatible". The factory reset from bootloader is not the same thing as the one from a custom recovery. You shouldn't do a factory reset from bootloader regardless of the ROM you're using
Moonshine is an S-Off method, I didn't used it myself so I don't know what factory reset option is in there

I never said anything about the custom recovery. If you should never use it, why is it there and why does it make the SD card not available?
Wow, HTC says you can use it here:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-x-att/howto/313779.html
I'm sure you know something others like me don't, but I when I mean "incompatible" I mean that I don't believe that it should make the sdcard unavailable and make the phone think it has zero MB. I think what you might have missed is that I used factory reset from the custom boot loader from moonshine. I was wondering if that factory reset was compatible - that's all.
Again, it was a mistake - it's not like I chose it on purpose. Thank you for the help.

The reset to factory from bootloader exists because on stock ROM there's no custom recovery that has that option....so it's in bootloader. For it to work properly though, you must have the stock recovery also. If you have a custom recovery like twrp/cwm and use the wipe from bootloader it'll mess your sd cause phone is not able to perform the wipe properly with that custom recovery. That's why, in order to get back to normal you should flash back stock recovery and perform the wipe from bootloader again.

Thank you for the clarification. It makes sense. Too bad that reset is so close to the recovery command. It's pretty weird that I didn't have to run the wipe from the stock boot loader again. It ran and rebooted the phone into CM11. Anyway, I am glad I am back to running. Thanks.
A week ago, more less, I installed KatKiss-5.0_TF300T_014b.zip on my Asus tf300t and everything was ok until today. When I have turned it on this morning I have noticed that it was staying in a reboot loop.
After that, I tried to reinstall this rom again through TWRP 2.8.0.0 but the reboot was there again. Then I tried to flash CM 11 snapshot m12, but the reboot was earlier. And now i don't know what I should do.
More info: when I flash superSU and gapps, the screen says "E: Unable to mount data" . Perhaps I should do a format data to fix it. What do you think?
Thanks for your answers

I actually got the same problem with it when I flashed that. I did a factory reset from TWRP, then reflashed the ROM and Gapps to make the rebooting stop.

The Format data within TWRP will delete all your apps and settings.
Now my tablet is ok after formatting data.
Hello all,
Hopefully you will be able to help me with this problem as I am currently without a phone until I can resolve this.
To run you through the process, I flashed Nitrogen OS, rebooted to recovery, flashed gapps and all was well. I decided to attempt to encrypt the device once I had setup my Google account. The battery was 100% and plugged into the charger. Shortly after the process started, the phone went into a bootloop. Since, I have attempted to wipe system , cache, dalvik and data, then reflashed Nitrogen OS, but it is still in a bootloop.
When I wipe system , cache, dalvik and data, I also get the error "Unable to mount storage" in TWRP.
I have even attempted to restore the backup I took before flashing Nitrogen OS, with no luck.
Any ideas?
SOLVED.
If anyone else has this problem and looking for a solution, you need to completely reflash stock firmware via fastboot. PM me if you need any help or info regarding this.
