Starting advice please
I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 quite a few years ago but would like to check out other ROMs. Doing some research I found that the sgh-i727 is NOT the skyrocket version. I'm not exactly sure how they are distinguished, but I do know they are different because I went to install [AOSPA's] Lollypop 5 only to discover the message that it was designed for the i727.skyrocket and that I have a i727 (just the plain vanilla version).
I'd like to keep using it but I want a newer ROM for it. Can anyone here who knows the difference recommend a ROM they know will work on the s2 that is not the skyrocket?
By the way, I always thought I had a Skyrocket. I believe it was sold to me as such for all I can recall. Under the battery it does in fact read just sgh-i727 with no R or anything after it.
Thanks.

OK, but then Paranoid/Android [AOSPA]'s custom ROM has an error in it. I have the link, but am not permitted to post it.
I used that one and it gave me the error mentioned - that the ROM was for an sgh-i727.skyrocket and my device was an sgh-i727 (without the skyrocket qualification).
Thanks anyway. I'll try Sultan's.

it will/should give u the same error as install scripts should be the same
i repeat :best guess ur using a non skyrocket rom. the one ur on now not the new one ur trying to flash.
what does it state(phone model) in settings>about
reason: ur current rom is not using the proper model name for ur phone, new rom is looking at that and stating it will not flash itself on to phone.
its about software not hardware, easy fix if u truly have a sgh-i727.
for a newb though it would just be simpler to flash stock jellybean w/odin then flash twrp or cwm recovery w/odin then flash whatever new rom u like.

Thank you. I have read sickies and researched. I have a Samsung Model SGH-i727. Its current Android version is 4.1.1.
It as originally an AT&T un-rooted phone. I terminated my contract after the period and went with other carrier but my phone kept using all the factory ATT apps. So, I rooted it. I was able to get the 4.1.1 using Cyanogen Mod 9.
It's not that I'm unhappy, but I'd like to try to install a newer OS version, maybe 4.4 or even 5 if possible.
Every version I've found here has not worked for me.
I have gone as far as reformatting my SD card, wiping with DARKSIDE, doing the complete wipes, Dalvik (reminds me of Dr. Who's Daliks) wipe, and tried to flash different ROMs found here.
Have CWMR Touch v.5.5.0.4.
My latest version loads Cyanogen Mod 9 and then the Android 4.1.1. I've asked for anyone to point me to a custom ROM they know works on the sgh-i727, but have gotten no answer. Guess I'll just have to keep searching and failing until one works.
I appreciate experienced people's impatience with newbees. I happen to be very experienced in my field, but I don't mind helping and mentoring less experienced people.

The CWM recovery your running is not compatible with 4.4 or 5.0 and will not install either one. Always go with the latest recovery. That is most likely why you're having trouble.

you gotta read and search my friend. Questions go in Q&A btw. XDA isn't going to spoon feed you, the info to get back to stock is all over the place. if you got to a custom rom, I'm confident you can flash odin back to stock
Moved to Q&A. I'm almost sure this might be covered somewhere else but at least have it in the correct forum
Cheers

This is your actual question. By now you may know Xda organizes those answers in the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket Android Development forum section. Look for the pushpin icons at the top of the list of threads. they are your "stickies", like an FAQ.
Remember OTA updates, when offered, do not mix with custom recoveries like CWM. You will need to flash a stock recovery.

Galaxy S2 HD LTE i757m Bell 4.0.4 ICS Root/ Downgrade

Hey Guys,
I currently have this phone and have installed the 4.0.4 ICS update from Bell. However, I just realized that I am not able to install CWM on this 4.0.4 which is very disappointing. I tried to follow the rooting procedure but I kept encountering stock boot which does now allow me to install ZIP for root/super user. One of my buddy told me that I have to downgrade. Can anybody confirm that. It seems like all the rooting procedures are only for gingerbread 2.3.4-2.3.6. If anybody can help me, much appreciated. Thx in advance
It will not work (someone correct me if im wrong) because you have the HD LTE version and this forum is for just the LTE version.

But the skyrocket is basically the HD LTE without the HD screen, these two devices are crosslisted and always mentioned in the same discussions.
Not sure if the same applies to SR HD but I would lean towrd it's similar ...
Use ODIN to flash CWM recovery (use .tar format NOT .img = search the development section "sk8.... recovery")..Check only auto reboot in ODIN and click PDA tab and point the browser toward the .tar recovery then click start ... It will reboot automatically ...
Reboot again into recovery and install the zip for rooting , reboot , open SU and update as it asks you , you're done
See Vincom's thread about all that....It's sticky in SR forums development ..
Hit Thanks if I helped you , an idiot was bragging on me on how many thanks he has compaired to his posts count forgetting that , unfortunately ,too many douches are here on the forums like himself(he has a sig like McDonald's billboard on the interstate saying "Hit thanks button" ...

you just need to downgrade back to the stock GB rom and then load the cwm and it will work perfectly, thats what happen to me this morning.
Maybe I need to refrain responding here for SGH-i757m, but please refer the the following thread.

General Questions Answered!

So, since I'm already a seasoned reader of the forums and a member of the Samsung Galaxy Ace forums right here in XDA, I bought myself a SGT2 7.0: it's great. Mine's the P3110 (Wifi only) and it came with 4.0.3. Now, I'd like to root it and mod it as I see fit but I don't see much information on the current status of things. I dug around the CM Forums and there's no SGT2 7.0 dedicated forums over there. Here I see guides on rooting and the like, but no one talks about the stable releases and/or nightlies of CM9 and CM10. So, to sum it up, here are my questions:
Is it safe to root and mod the SGT2 to CM9?
Where's the buglist of the latest stable release of CM9 for the SGT2?
Can you see a better battery life on CM9 compared with stock?
Should I download the latest OTA on my SGT2?
Now, I wouldn't have asked these questions if I see them answered here or any other forums, so that's that. Thanks in advance for any information you might offer.
As a seasoned reader, you created a question thread in general?
Please keep all question/help threads in Q&A only. Thank you.

Yes, it is. You can root using CF-Auto-Root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957160) or other methods that can be found in the same section. I think CF-Auto-Root is the simplest of all. Note that you don't need to root your tab if you intend to flash CM9 (or CM10 which is also available), just follow the instructions in the dedicated thread.

There's basically none, except the official keyboard dock is not working (although it works in AOKP). You're not concerned by IR-Blaster issue since you have a p3110.

I'd say the battery life is similar. Do not expect anything battery-wise. However, you'll be able to notice improvements in performance.

If you intend to stay with stock firmware, yes. The 4.0.4 is much more fluid than 4.0.3, and p3110 has also an official 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) update.
The only drawback of JB (in stock and CM10) is the loss of the Tablet UI, replaced by Phablet UI. However, you can restore Tablet UI on CM10 by using a patch, or natively in AOKP or Paranoid Android. I greatly encourage you to go through a few threads in the development section, to get a better sense of all of this. Do not hesitate though if you feel lost or puzzled.
Thank you very much for your fast responses. Yeah, @PeartFan40, I guess I embarrased myself, haha!
@Einril, it's not that I don't like stock, it's just the bloatware that Samsung installs that makes me go all kinds of green but I'd like to keep my options open if something ever happens to my tablet I can use my guarantee, you know? I read about the Triangle Away app, so I'm good in that area, but just a tiny question: is it mandatory to have it or can I live with that triangle? Also, could I install the official stock firmware later down the road if I'd like? Right now I'm downloading the latest update for my tablet so I can save an image with CWM for safekeeping.
And just for kicks, what's new in CM9 for tablets? I'll google myself what's Phablet UI, don't worry
Thanks again!
What Triangle Away does is that it resets your custom binary counter, which is incremented each time you flash a custom recovery. Flashing a custom recovery on the Galaxy Tab 2 won't show up a triangle at boot, so you can live without using Triangle Away. However, it is necessary to reset it before sending the tab for guarantee.
You can always flash official ROMs via Odin. You can look at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-P3110&pcode=0&os=1&type=3 to find the latest firmware for your country.
What's new in CM9 ? Compared to stock? Basically a lot of customization tools, performance tools, and a more "pure-Google" experience. But it's quite complicated to list all the differences. The best way is to try it yourself

I already installed CM9. It was complicated at first because I had some trouble with ODIN (it seems the button Auto-reset shouldn't be marked) when I installed the CWMRecovery. Now I've downloaded ROM Manager and I'm thinking if I should install the Recovery the app offers. What do you think?
I also was tinkering with the system options and the kernel doesn't have a lot of governors. Any tips on the matter?

[Completed] [Q] Where do I start

I have a galaxy note 2 (SPRINT)
My details are
SPH-L900 GALAXY NOTE 2 (SPRINT)
Android version 4.3.1
cyanogenmod version 10.2-20131214 snapshot
kernal version 3.0.64-CMg9d16c8a
I am simply trying to learn where to go from here. I tried getting a new rom from room manager premium but it always says download error. I was trying to get 10.2 rc2 stable. But none of the other work either. I think I might need a new kernal but am lost on which one is right for me. Any help is appreciated. So basically I'll take the Eli5
Approach and go from there. How to get the right roms for me, kernels etc.? Thanks guys
Hi!
Easy, here's the forum section for your device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-sprint
Now you need to go through the development section, and original development section. Read about the ROMs and kernels in the opening posts. See what appeals to you...and flash away!
Do a nandroid backup in recovery first...in case you need to restore.
And read the flashing instructions very carefully.
Good luck!! ?

[Completed] [Q] Im new to XDA Help me out :D

Hey all just made my first XDA account, I've heard amazing thing about this site. I'm posting here in hopes to get directed to a place where some people could help me with rooting and putting a custom rom on my Sprint S3 (SPH-L710). It was previously rooted and had a jellybean LS rom on it (Not Done by me) But due to a soft brick i flashed it back to stock with the stock tar (thanks to CNexus for supplying that) This left me unrooted and without my Liquidsmooth rom, since i wasn't the one doing the original rooting and so i have little to no knowledge of how to root or install a custom rom on my phone. I was told by my brother (He rooted it and put the rom on it) how to flash it back to stock using odin. but as far as that i have no idea how to root or put a rom on a phone, i've been told you can root using odin but from many people they've only told me it can be done with ToolKit, which i have absolutely no idea how to use.
