[Q] china phone rom update - Android General

hi , i have a chinese phone (ULEFONE-U692___alps _mtk6592_2GB.ram_8GB.ROM_6.5"screen).does any one know if this device is a clone or hardware-simmilar to a well known brand. i'm asking this because it is impossible to find update roms upper than 4.2, like 4.4 or even 5.0 compatible for this model.
even if the phone is rooted and has a working recovery i can only find roms for as i told popular devices . of cource i could use one like samsung s3 or s5 (which i think is the most simmilar configuration) and if something goes wrong , roll back to my stock rom
but i need someone's oppinion (if there's any)
thank you

Chinese Android Phones can you flash?

i want new phone unlocked because my g1 is slow but i was curious if there was a way to know if the chinese android phone is flashable and using which rom? and which is a good phone to buy ...
bumpppppp/
It hasn't even been 3 hours, there's no need for a bump. Also I don't think those cheap knockoffs can be flashed but it's possible. First you have to root it though which is probably possible with one of the "one-click root" apps. Actually flashing one is a bit more involved because of hardware differences. Next time just get the real phone instead of a knockoff, save yourself some headache and heartache at not being able to do everything you want.
i actually have a g1 thank you very much handsome
Well then take out the "next time"s from my previous post and I stick by it. Knockoffs generally aren't that great. Getting the real version from a store is better, even craigslist or ebay.
I rooted my galaxy note replica with bin4ry it worked perfectly as for flashing i have flashed a few things but to flash a rom it would be harder because i have found out i would have to port the custom rom to work with my device.

What did I miss? Why the assumption that the OP is talking about a "cheap knock-off". Maybe he means a Huawei, or ZTE or something.
Rooting android from China

It will depend on the device you have. You should search xda for your device name, but if it is a cloned device, you may not be able to find anything, because some clones are not well supported.

Galaxy W Stock Rom Install

Hi all,
Okay as you have noticed I'm rather new here and still reading some of the posts on rooting and installing ROMs but basically what I'm trying to achieve here is to remove a Carrier logo from the phone (Galaxy W I8150T) (Vodafone) Phone is unlocked and I wanted to give it to me dear ole Ma and she is on a different carrier.
To be honest not really into rooting it I was just looking for an easy way to re install a stock gingerbread rom minus the stupid logo's.
As I'm in Australia would the ROM's here be ok ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654643
My phone says Ver 2.3.6 I8150TDULM1 .... if any devs want this rom let me know ...not sure how to copy it but am happy to give it a go and transfer it if required.
Basically just wanted everything to work for her like radio etc if she wanted to use it .... so maybe when I get a few more clues I can try things like rooting phones ( that just sounds wrong) anyway help a noob out please.
hey i have the T version as well id recommend getting "cyanogen mod 9" if you want to get rid of the Vodafone branding as i did. it will also be running ice cream sandwich. it is completely stable and has no carrier branding although is is a bit more complected. you could also get jelly bean but is unstable and so i wouldent recomend it for your mum to get cyanogen mod 9 go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874

[Q] Use Cyanogenmod of Galaxy Note for ZTE Blade Q Maxi

Hello,
Is it possible to use the Galaxy Note N7000 version of the Cyanogenmod for ZTE Blade Q Maxi?
Hardware-wise, the only difference I could see is that the Note has a Cortex A9 and the ZTE has a Cortez A7.
I'm assuming that resolution, screen and camera sizes are irrelevant.
I have rooted the phone and have made a back-up of the current firmware to the card (which is Orange bloatware weighing a massive 1.1GB).
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's impossible, why don't you search for a custom rom and kernel that are built specially for your device?

Damn...I thought it was just like on the PC
@Ferris Cruiser : As far as custom ROMs for it go, there aren't any at the moment.
Stock Android 4.2.2 has about 450MB. The back-up made with CWM to the zip card is...drum-roll please...1.5GB, because Orange bloatware. I didn't install any apps except something to root it and CWM.
Can I just flash stock Android 4.2.2 on it? I mean, the Google Nexus 4 ROM. Or would that brick it too?
I'm searching for something, anything, any Android version that might work for it because in the Orange branded version you don't have :
Options for calls/keyboard/home-screens etc. It's very very limited.

flashing any rom that is not ment for your phone will brick it, this goes for almost every devices. there are a few phones suck as the (t-mobile)T989 Galaxy s2 and skyrocket galaxy s2 (at&t) are able to flash each others roms with a mod i think, i have yet to try to flash one of their roms. it looks like your phone has almost about stock android, with a new keyboard or a new launcher. got a perfect status bar already. other than that it should look like a nexus 4.

I understand now, thank you very much for your help.
I've done some late-late-night research and was unable to even install Clockwork Mod on it, it still has the basic Android system recover (3e) from Orange.
I will keep on searching for a way to install recovery on it and flash it. The phone is good, the firmware ruins it.
So thank you all once again for your help.
Love&Peace!

[Q] Samsung galaxy ace q/appeal

The phone i am looking to get is called the samsung galaxy appeal in USA, or the samsung galaxy ace q in canada.
the main draw to this phone is its design - a real slide out keyboard.
but im just confused as far as which directions for rooting i would follow? I cant find any directions specific to that phone model, only the "samsung galaxy ace" but that and the phone I want are quite different. the model number for mine is sgh-i827D, if that helps.
My plan was to play around with it and put the latest (stable/recommended) version of android onto the phone before adding any personal touches. I know its operating system is older now but i really do enjoy the physical style of the phone itself.
Any advice would be great, thanks!
If it helps, once i root, as far as i know the only thing id want to do is upgrade the android version.

Latest official Rom--> NOT AVAIABLE (or may be i'm dumb)
But i thought that was the point of rooting, so that way technically every rom is available to every phone?
Ive seen people say they got their regular ace running version 4.4

Ace on 4.4 is possible but not recommended as its just a bit too slow for KitKat. The point is that custom roms are communtity made and if there is no community, bacause of neraly no one owns the phone you have, there will be no custom roms.
I was not even able to find the stock rom for i927D provided b samsung on the internet. I would always inform myself about the abilities to mod a device before buying it.

HTC Desire 620G Dual Sim

I recently came into the possession of a HTC Desire 620G Dual Sim (it was my father's) Android 4.4.2, Kernel 3.4.67, Chipset Mediatek MT6592 (Online is liste as android 4.4.4 but that is a lie). After days of searching the web and reading countless forums I came to the conclusion that this is a very unpopular and abandoned smartphone. I really want to change the android version on this phone, I know how to root, I learned from this forums. The only problem I have is that I can't find any android versions ported for this phone, I need anything newer than 4.4.2, I would like 4.4.4 or lollipop as i heard it runs better. I checked all custom androids none has support for this device, I cant even find this phone on the clockworkmod and TWRP list of devices. What do I do now? If I can't even install a custom recovery on this phone? So to sum this up, I need a custom recovery mode for this phone and a ported android version newer than 4.4.2. I would appreciate any help.

Hi, even if my answer has nothing to do with what you asked, you seem to have the abilities to make a backup copy of your stock rom, that's waiting that you still have your stock rom in that phone and it's european model.
Could you please be so kind to make a backup copy of your rom?
And by the way, there's at least one russian guy that has cooked one rom for this phone, even if it seems to have some issues yet.
Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm very sorry I flashed MIUI v5.8.27 Beta, a rom found on these forums ported by a guy, maybe the same guy you speak of. I regret it now, I need the stock rom back, I liked it better. I did found something over the web a stock rom but I'm to wuss to try it because there is a chance I'll brick my phone and this is the only phone I got. Do you want to try that stock rom? I'll find it again for you.

That's very kind of you. I have in fact found also a stock Rom, but is not the same the version as my phone's, plus is a Rom for phones sold in India and I bought mine at in Europe, so I prefer not to "risk" this time.
There are some sites that really have all the roms, but they want money to let you download anything, is quite "strange" and I will not say anything else about that.
Sadly, HTC doesn't provide free download for any of their devices, like they used to do and I am not sure about what could happen if I download and install one of those branded roms that can ba apparently downloaded.
Finally, what I want is simply recover the "normal" functionality of this phone, because after rooting, I lost the camera function, the whole system became absolutely unstable and getting worst, so now it resets itself without warning just like that and it's not providing any acoustical messages anymore, so I know I will never root again a phone with any of those "tools", I will do it old style, connecting with a command line terminal.
So maybe that Rom you're using may fit the bill for me, but I couldn't find a way to install cwm or twrp on this phone to install any cooked Rom and I've been really out of this chores for quite some time to know enough to find the right way to do this on my own.
So thanks for any help you can provide and I think it would be really nice to provide this Rom here because it's more than one person who needs it and apparently no one really cares about this phone, there are several people with these problems.
