Currently letting it sit in a bag of rice like I probably should have done in the first place. Obviously can't remove the battery and opening it up seems to be more work than it's worth. So i guess my questions are 1) am I screwed and 2)How long should I REALLY keep it in that bag? I've heard anywhere from overnight to a whole week just to be safe.

First of all in the first place you shouldnt have used it because it could have even caused short-cut in the motherboard.
Now keep it in that bag of rice for 1-2 days that would be enough.

Okay, clean water is better than dirty water. However, tap/toilet water has mineral impurities which tend to make the water conductive, thus allowing short circuit conditions to occur. You're probably screwed as something obviously caused your device to stop working. Now, (most) components can tolerate being shorted once, maybe twice, provided currents remain low and brief. You might be lucky.
Next time, rice right away. Also, leaving the battery in is not a good idea, no matter how difficult it is to get to. Plus, removing it will allow you to perform a visual inspection.

excuse me for the very long title. I being the brilliant human being that i am went into a pool on the day of our independence with my beautiful HOX in my pocket. i sat there for about 5 min, totally sober mind you, then realized what an ass i was. i immediately went inside, shut it off and placed in rice. the next day i turn it on to see if it works and indeed it does. The only visible problem was water under the screen though the screen worked fine. i turned it back off and put it back in rice so as to give the rice ample time to perform its magic. 3 days later i check again and it still works. i decided to switch back to the HOX and things were great. 2 days later however it would randomly shut off and take AT LEAST 30 min before it would turn back on. at the end of the day i took out the sim and threw it back in rice. the next day it wouldnt turn on and thats the way its been ever since. no light when charging ether. ive left it in rice for the past 3 weeks checking every once in awhile but to no avail.
so i know that water damage is the culprit as is my stupidity however im asking to see if there is anything that anyone can think of that might revive my phone? perhaps a batter replacement? or screen replacement? or find out what i shorted? ive taken it apart a little but have held back out of fear of being unable to put back together my already broken phone lol
any help is appreciated. Thank You

Sorry about you phone. Being an electronic technician, I would say you unfortunately made a fatal mistake by turning the phone on before it was totally dry inside. Almost anything on the circuit boards inside could have shorted or partially shorted while wet. I don't think anyone could guess as to what component is bad now without swapping in known good parts. It might have been damaged considerably before you got the chance to turn it off after the soaking, and there's nothing you could have done after that point, although it seemed to OK for a short time. I'm sorry that I can't recommend any further remedies.

alright i assumed as much but thank you for the help. i feel like i can finally let go off my HOX
Take it apart and sell for parts. The digitalizer probably works fine.

You really have to take it apart before putting it in the rice. These things are sealed up pretty good these days.
Might just be the battery. If water got in the pack, it would behave as you described from internal shorting.

Open it
At this point, you have nothing to lose by opening it up and drying it out for a week or 2. At least you'll get out any remaining moisture. You may just get lucky.
Also if there is corrosion, use 99% alcohol to remove it.

Hey everyone,
I wish I wasn't here under these circumstances, but yesterday my phone got drenched by the faucet when I accidentally dropped it in the sink. I turned it off right away and tried to dry it by blowing out all the holes/buttons/etc. with canned air. then (maybe stupidly) I turned the phone back on and used it the rest of the day, not really noticing that it wasn't charging when I plugged it in until later when the battery got very low and I plugged it in again and noticed that the charging symbol didn't appear.
Ultimately, what I found DID work, (at least temporarily, sometimes it still stops charging) was turning the phone off, then plugging it in, then turning it back on . When I did this, usb (and wireless) charging work, as well as the USB connection for getting files off the phone on my computer.
It's a bit odd that this is what worked, but so far, it seems to. I'm just not quite sure if there's anything else I can do other than maybe send the phone to LG for repair, or find a local shop that might be cheaper...
Just looking for any suggestions or information anyone may have to help me fix this. thanks in advance!

You should have not used the phone but put it turned off in a bowl of uncooked rice for a few days. Optional also removed the back and the battery if possible. You will have corrossion now and maybe worse electrical damage.

Yeah, I recognize that it was a bad idea... but there's not much I can do about that now. I'm just trying to figure out what my best course of action going forward is.

Try to remove the back and battery and place it in a bowl of uncooked rice asap for 2-3 days, this will limit the damage. Your warranty will also be voided i`am afraid as the moisture indicators are colored now.

what do you think the chances of the moisture indicators NOT being colored would be?
I had the phone inside a bumper case which covers the sides of the phone and the back. Some water got inside the case, but maybe not enough to wet the indicators.. I'd hate to open the phone and then realize they weren't colored. I hate opening phones if possible, but that'd be the only way to know for sure , I guess...
I'm working on getting my hands on a back up phone to use currently , but I hate to see the condition of this one get worse... (my nexus 4 that I was going to use as a backup hasn't wanted to power on in a couple months after I botched Rom flashing attempt and subsequent failure to accept a charge)

Water goes through the tiniest cracks and openings so i guess the indicators are colored. Only one sure way to find out and that is looking inside the phone. Look on YouTube for a Nexus 5 iFixit dissasembly video.
Opening up the phone doesn't really void the warranty. Breaking something while opening it does. You still had the headphone jack and the usb port open right? That means water got in and tripped the sensors. This is pretty much guaranteed. IMO, those sensors are too sensitive. Just using the phone in a humid place (bathroom while shower is running) trips them.
If everything works fine just try a wireless charger

The fact that your charging doesn't work reliably anymore probably means the moisture indicators would be coloured... I've had phones where the water didn't damage it at all and they still were

Hi,
Earlier today I was in the pool, I grabbed my Z3 and started taking pictures. (of course I checked twice that all the flaps are closed).
After 10 minutes, I put the device on the table near the pool to dry.
I went out for watching the pictures but I was surprised to find out that the device doesn't recognize my touchs.
I already tried restarting the device using the power + volume up buttons, but I can't see any change.
Important to mention that all the buttons work well, the same goes for the speakers, the microphone, the light sensor, LED light etc.
Do you have any idea what should I do?
Thanks and sorry about my grammer mistakes.
I got quite the panic attack the first time I experienced the same thing. For me waiting a while worked, and it came back to life. I still have trouble a couple of hours after soaking it when it comes to sound, though. Sometimes it thinks that I have a jack connected, for instance. I'm guessing you just have to wait for it to dry properly.

same as me! It also thought I connected my headset, for some reason.
when you waited a while, the device was turned-off or on?
I never turned it off. Might be a good idea to try to connect a useless headsets jack (I take no responsibility for whatever might happen though. I have no good concept of whether this might be a bad idea or not) to try to clean it.

I have connected a headset already and it worked fine. I will let the phone to dry until tomorrow.
Very strange. I get my phone wet a lot and never had any issue. Of course touch does not work well when phone and hands are wet. But after a couple of minutes, it is good to go.
If your phone stops working properly after being immersed in water then it is defective and water got inside of it. Bring it to a service center, they will test it and if they find a leak with flaps closed they will replace under warranty.
I've immersed mine in water a few times and I never had any problem (not pool, mostly in the sink for cleaning purposes and to test the waterproofing). If water goes and stays into the headphone jack the phone will detect headphones, but you just have to blow the water out of it or shake it a bit to get the water out. Underwater the screen will not work and it will detect fake touches if a lot of water is still on the screen, but it should work perfectly as soon as you dry it with a towel or something.
If you experience a malfunction after drying up your phone with a towel and getting residual water out of the jack then water got inside and you should get it replaced ASAP. It doesn't need any drying period, drying it with a towel is enough.
Hey all,
Water damage success story:
One night after a night of some heavy drinking, I awoke to find that my GFlex 2 had been literally puked on... Yeah.
However I fished it out of the muck and saw that it was on and working fine. (It was plugged in and charging, the battery was at 98% by the time I got the screen cleaned off, didnt use water or any cleaner at all. I also tried to blow the water out of the back of the case, at this point I didnt realize the back popped off).Took it with me to class, and by the end of the day it was at like 12%. Soon after it sorta turned off mid text, and only showed a battery icon with a question mark next to it (kinda like the "Battery too low to turn on" message, but closer to "What is a battery")
At this point I wasn't worried, I just figured it was weird low battery glitch, or over heating. I got it home and put it on the charger, and it came on for a few minutes and shut back off with the same behavior. After that point it wouldn't charge.
My first thought was that the charging connector was all gunked up, so I gave the whole phone a nice 99% isopropyl bath, and cleaned all of my connectors with a q-tip. Still didnt work. I tried cooling it off in the freezer, thinking it was a an issue with my battery being too warm, still no joy. I was pretty much thinking she was a goner at this point.
Then i found this LG Gflex 2 disassembly guide while googling: [In comments below] and decided I had nothing to lose, so I decided to pop everything open.
The first thing I did was unsnap the back, and *i found there was still a little dampness inside the back cover.* I cleaned this up, and let the phone sit with the back off for a while. Hoping this was all it would need, I tried a charger again with the back still off...
It charged fine!!! The phone battery was at 0%, so I had to let it sit for a bit, but it charged up okay, and then turned on fine too. I have yet to snap the back cover back on, and I haven't tried my rapid charger yet either, but I have no reason to think either will hurt anything now. The phone seems fine otherwise. I'll update this thread with my back cover results
Anyways long story short: if your flex2 gets wet at all, pop the back cover off and dry it all out ASAP. Hope this helps someone.
Still to new to post the disassembly link, if you search" High on Android GFlex 2 disassembly" you'll find it.
Also putting the back on didnt break anything
Good luck guys, hope it helps someone
Hey all, new owner here. So I spilled some ginger ale on my phone, not a lot, but I thought well hey, this phone is water resistant, I'll rinse it off. So I rinsed it off in cold water, and put it under and inch or so for cool factor for a minute or so. I then dried it off, and shook it to get the water out of the ports. All seemed fine, but an hour or so later I went to use it, and the screen wouldn't turn on. The back/recent lights came on, and the blue notification light came on for a bit too with more prodding, also the screenshot combo seemed to work, and seems to have taken a picture of the lock screen. I let it sit for another half hour or so, at which point I tried power/volume down or up, can't remember, either way it rebooted. Finally it's on now, I use it for a bit, and it does the same thing. I let it sit another 10 mins, and do the button combo again. This time it seems to stay on. I charge it that night, and unplug it once it's charged and turn it off. the next morning I turn it on, 92% battery left. Weird. Using it through the day today it doesn't seem to be draining extra fast or anything. Is this anything anyone else has encountered? Should I be worried?
Needless to say I'm a little scared to test water resistance any further right now...

Have to say that in my opinion the phone is really water resistant. Tried it in normal and salt water couple of times exceeding the recommended 30 min. Even use it underwater to take pics and videos. Probably you should dry it very well. After every water situation i noticed that it wont charge until the connector is completely dry. Sometimes the phone says that 3.5 mm jack is in use (can assume that water is fooling the software) Just try to dry it really well and maybe is just a coincidence and your firmware is faulty. Than reinstall using odin and if the problem persist - claim waranty. Good luck

You can make this test.
How to test if your smartphone is waterproof or not, without putting it in the water?
