[Q] What type of brick is my Galaxy note 10.1 gt n8010 stuck? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Two days ago my Galaxy Note 10.1 gt-n8010 got stuck at the initial screen (Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1)
It was working normally, and it was last successfully upgraded to a custom rom and CWM 6.0.3.6 a month ago.
The custom rom was (to my best knowledge Android Revolution HD 11.2 - 4.1.2)
Booting into recovery and download modes works.
CWM recovery works partially. Erasing Cache en resetting to factory works, and sometimes results in getting to the second splash screen of the boot process where it again gets stuck (Samsung animation keeps glowing), but more it keeps getting stuck at he first boot screen.
Erasing Dalvic cache leads to immediate reboot.
CWM log files cant be opened / external sd card can't be reached/mounted.
So CWM is only working for a small part.
I've attached images of the CWM screens including a log-screen that shows that files and folders cannot be found.
Using ODIN, to flash a new CWM or custom/original ROM result in a FAIL message.
Tried different ODIN version, two original Samsung data cables and two computers. Alle the same result. FAIL.
I'm hesitant to continue now without some help. I might do more harm and destroy all chances there are to recover this tablet.
I've flashed all my phones and tablets before. I'm not an expert, but never had a mishap, because I triple read the instructions. The situation that arises now is not a result of a failed upgrade/flash, but suddenly appeared one morning.

On the last days i thought i had also broken my tablet and i had more or less the same problem. If i were you i would directly download an official 4.4.2 and flash it via odin. Then if you everything works i would try whatever you want to flash

Try changing recovery. Give TWRP a try. Had it happen with a phone and switching recoveries solved it.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Free mobile app

Well I had the same problem due to toooo many consecutive reboots
I was on gnabo then wid twrp
then I reflashed 4.4.2 update via odin and everything was a breeze after that
and one more thing
be sure to change the recovery cause the same one might not work again
well at least it didn't do worth me
I use philz now

Can't flash anything
Tried everything I could find but nothing works. I'm using windows 7 and cannot flash anything using Odin.
Download mode and CWM recovery still boot.
Are there other ways to communicate and reprogram the galaxy note 10.1?

are you sure you do not have a bad cable

I've used two different original Samsung cables. Same result.

Brick?
Change a Odin version like odin 3.07 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837605?
your odin shows your device is Samsung I9505 Galaxy S4

Where does Odin show the device is a i9505? It's a n8010.

reCAPTCHA
I am having similar issues (Galaxy Note 10.1 N8010 Gnabo ROM) - stuck on the samsung logo (never managed to get past it though) boots into recovery but can't mount sd card OR internal storage. Can't flash anything using Odin, always gets a Complete(Write) operation failed. Any suggestions ?

Looks like we're both in the same sinking boat.

Sorry for late reply

I join u guys as well....
also was on gnabo rom and suddenly stuck on Samsung screen... however what's different from you is that I have a N8000 and Odin flashing shows "PASS". But whatever I flash doesn't boot... I think I need to open a thread about it.

Same here with Ganbo v7 since ysterday....
Just get stuck on Samsung logo and nothing works, even reverting to older backup image

Nothing yet.... I've tried one old backup of v5 I've had and that won't boot now as well...
Really strange. I'm hoping to get it working somehow over the weekend latest, since I'll be on business trip next week and would like to have operating device on airplanes.

maybe it's a problem from Gnabo ROM itself??? What's really sad is nobody on the threads knows how to help us

I've seen few other occurrences of this on different roms on various forums, so probably not Gnabo issue. also, nobody nowhere had a fix for it

I had similar problem last November with a stock 4.4.2 ROM. Fortunately it was still in warranty (2 years in the UK) and Samsung took it in and replaced both battery and main board. They did not explain what was wrong, only that they were seeing quite a few with this issue. Could it be flash failure?

I don't think it was flash failure, at least not in my case, since device worked without any issue for quite a while after last flashing... what was different now is that my battery was drained out for the first time i quite a while...

[Q] Note 10.1 4G N8020 messed up

Hi all. Tried my first root + custom rom installation and i messed up the device..
i had the newest KIES firmware update (phone XXBMA5) and (XXBMA6) and i rooted the device with odin (3.07). That went OK.
Then i installed the CWM recovery with odin and that was OK too.
Then i downloaded the latest Omega Rom (i missread that it supports N8020) and followed the installation instructions to the point where it started installing Omega V2.0 from SDCARD and then it asked me to select device from a list that included only (N8000,N8010,N8013)..
So the situation now is that i have working odin, working CWM and backup of the EFS (img+tar) but no working recovery. i live in Finland and the device is Sonera locked i think, so the stock roms (international) do not work i guess.
KIES has a backup of my Note but i can't even get to a point where KIES discovers the device.
So basically i think i need a working ROM for my model (Note 10.1 4G N8020), or can i recover the original samsung software somehow ?
Any advices ?

Just a thought, but can't you reflash CWM or the stock recovery?
If you didn't install the rom why do you need to re-install anything. Just powering down and powering up should have left you as was....

Maybe i'm missing something but isn't CWM your custom recovery?
It doesn't sound like you've actually installed any rom yet.The Omega installer doesn't actually install anything until a few steps after the one you mentioned about the model type.
I'm with ultramag69 on this one. You should still be on a stock rom unless you already wiped your original rom.
Hi again. Problem solved, just had to do emergency thing from KIES. Like i said this was the first time trying root + custom ro install and to be honest it went to ****. Somehow i managed to delete the stock firmware so that is why the recovery gave me (no files). I did make some backup but when tried to restore it said MD5 mismatch or something. At first the KIES emergency recovery could not find the device, but after i switched from CWMcto stock recovery it worked.
So what did i learn from all this ? Nothing, because i am getting too old (tired+lazy ) to do proper investigation. So one could say my strategy is to bang my head to the wall as long as it takes to go trough. Even if i could just go around it
So basically i am now at the point where i started, with stock 4.1.2 rooted. Used the triangle away to wipe the (6) custom installs or something away, but it still says custom in the settings> information. Does this mean that OTA won't work ? Any way around it ? Because i would like to check now and then that is my version of android the newest one..
Could someone recommend a custom ROM for my Note 10.1 4G (LTE) N8020 4.1.2 because the only one i was able to find was the CyanogenMod (or something) and it basically makes the S-Pen (almost) useless. What i would like is the Omega ROM, but like stated before the installation only supported N8000, N8010 & N8013...
Added screenshot from info.
Thanks anyway
What is truly amazing is that i did not brick the device tough..
switch from cwm to stock

I was not easy, i just tried the download mode over and over again with KIES open in windows and somehow it finally did find my device and offered a emergency restore. That is it, and the device was restored to default "original state".
OMG.... one would think after nearly having bricked your device you would either A) stop messing around with it or, B) read and learn more about what you're wanting to achieve and THEN maybe trying something with the ABSOLUTE certainty that a backup to restore is available to you in case of any mishap!
Moral of story :
Don't do anything until you are absolutely sure you have read EVERYTHING about what you are going to do.
For others wanting to mess with their devices, take heed! You may not be as lucky as OP (or troller) whichever is applicable.
There comes a certain point, that when crossed one does not care what happens to the device at hand. After fighting with my n8020 for several days in a row i couldn't care less, and like said before i dont have the level of enhusiasm like i had when i was younger. Of course i know now what went wrong.. But seriously, these are just overpriced toys, so it's not a matter of life and death.

[Q] Galaxy display is very pixelated after Android update

Hi, hope someone can help me.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500), it was on Android 4.3 and I upgraded to Andorid 4.4.2 via Kies.
This was a legitimate provider update.
Immediately on the first boot the Samsung Logo was blocky and pixelated, so was the Samsung animation.
This blocky-ness persists on the desktop and any app I open.
UNTIL I lock the screen and unlock it. Then everything becomes clear again.
I since then I installed a new 4.4.2 ROM via Odin, but no luck.
I have ClockWorkMod installed too. The strange thing is that when I boot into recovery mode (into ClockMod) the resolution is fine.
Any ideas?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's got to be config or software related beacause if I turn the lock screen back to swipe, restart and then lock it's fine again.
I just took a look at the screenshots I attached.
They look fine!
that's very odd. What would cause the screen to display the images badly but save the screenshots as normal?

well if CWM looks fine, try flashing twrp and see if twrp is pixely, if not get back to stock 4.2.2 or 4.3 and see whats up. maybe you had a bad install on 4.4?

I tried flashing back to 4.3, but Odin Failed.
I am trying to get a different 4.4.2 ROM now.
Once I download the new ROM (my bandwidth is terrible), do you think it's worthwhile to re-partition in Odin as well to fix the blocky issue?
Do you think it could be boot loader related?

I fugure if the pixelation is config related or a corruption then a repartition would fix it.
I will put a 4.3 XFA rom from sammobile and see if the problem goes away. It will have to be on after the easter weekend though

No matter what I do, I can't get a 4.3 ROM on my galaxy.
I have flashed back to an official Samsung 4.4.2 for my region but the blocky-ness is still there.
I'm going to take the device to a Samsung store and see what they say.
Thanks for the advice.

Latest update: The Samsung Service centre is not particularly helpful.
I left my phone there yesterday and explained the problem.
Got the phone back and all they had done was wipe the data and reinstall Android. It has not fixed the pixelated problem.
I explained the problem again in excruciating detail and have left the phone with them once again.
let's see what happens.
Can anyone tell me what actually kicks off the graphics processing as soon as the phone boots?
As in when the very first image is displayed on boot (the Samsung logo with device model number).
Is it the bootloader? If so any ideas on what I can do to reinstall the standard samsung one?
Problem solved.
So after all of that Samsung replaced my screen and it sorted the problem out!
Still, it's very odd that it failed immediately after the 4.4.2 update.

[Q] GT-N8010 stuck in logo and won't enter recovery

Hi folks,
I've seen other threads where people report similar but perhaps not quite the same issue I am having with my GT-N8010. For context, I installed 4.4.2 a while ago (February?). This was one of the Omni nightlies, omni-4.4.2-20140210. In preparation for this I had installed twrp-2.6.3.1-n8000. All was well and I much enjoyed kitkat until a few weeks came back from a trip and noticed the device had run out of juice. Connected it to the charger and then...
Symptoms:
* Seems to be stuck displaying the Samsung logo
* Download mode works
* When trying to enter recovery (Power+VOL_UP) it briefly shows the Team Win screen logo and then just reboots
Things I've tried:
* Reinstall twrp, using Odin and download mode; Odin succeeds, the device reboots, same symptoms as before
* Install some other recovery (HighOnAndroidv1CWMRecoveryGTN8000), same result; it is as though NOTHING gets flashed???
* Install stock (4.0.4 or 4.1.2, I don't remember) Samsung ROM; Odin succeeds (it takes a few minutes), device reboots but HECK I'm going insane NOTHING has changed, symptoms as before
Please please can one of you ninja dudes help me out as this is such a precious tablet and hopefully not just a brick now .
Among the things I haven't tried, but heard can do wonders, is to re-partition. So if you happen to have a PIT file from your N8010 then would you mind sharing it through a PM please.
Also am currently downloading the "official" 4.4.2 release for the N8000. I've heard this is NOT for the N8010 but as a last resort, I might flash it??
Many thanks in advance for all the help!

Thanks, have just flashed the 8010 4.4.2 stock fw. Symptoms remain. I'd be very grateful for a PIT file as I've waded through the other threads and not too sure about the links to PIT files there. PM, anyone, please please .
I've got the N8010 PIT file from here:

Sadly, this didn't change a thing. I'm still stuck at the Samsung logo, and still cannot enter recovery mode which still briefly shows the TeamWin logo and then reboots.
This N8010 is just over a year old. Bought in Germany, I wonder whether Samsung would repair under warranty. I guess they won't as it's been fiddled with. I've heard about JTAG repairs but something tells me this isn't going to help as I have a feeling that I just can't flash the darn thing. Eeek, faulty flash memory??

Sadly not. Others have reported that having gone with one of the Omni 4.4.2 builds they cannot get the official 4.4.2 release from Samsung installed, at least not with desktop Odin. They do succeed with mobile Odin but yeah, that's not an option here as I don't get past the Samsung logo and no recovery. This is really frustrating.....

Err well I ended up bringing the tablet to a Samsung service store where it was repaired under warranty, free of charge. Dunno what they did to it but it works and has the latest 4.4.2 firmware on it. Glad I have it back.
I have exactly same problem with N8005!... Can't reinstall twrp or any other recovery with Odin. ( "failed")... Can't enter twrp... Can't boot... I guess my tablet decided to suicide.

Looking for second opinion before I replace the board.[GT-N8013]

I have the GT-N8013 note 10.1. It was rooted, running Omni 4.4.4 rom from about a year or two ago, using TWRP custom recovery. I mainly use it for Plex movie streaming and Pandora while I work. Yesterday I noticed it was sitting at the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 splash screen, and it doesn't seem to want to boot anymore. At this point, it will only allow me to get into download mode and ODIN does recognize it. When I try to boot into the custom recovery, it will show the TWRP splash screen for about a second or two, then reboot and go back to the Galaxy note 10.1 splash screen. Below is a list of everything I've tried to fix it.
Through ODIN on pc:
-Flashed stock 4.1.2 rom from Sammobile, It "passes"
-Flashed stock recovery, It "passes"
-Flashed Philz recovery, It "passes"
-Tried having ODIN erase the NAND, but it always fails
Disassembled tablet and pulled battery for about 5 minutes and reconnected.
After all that, it still does the same thing. Turns on, and stays at the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 splash screen and doesn't boot. From my searching around, I've found that the N8000 models(I would assume all models) seem to over time have faulty NAND Flash modules. It seems like that model has a modular NAND flash, however the 8013 doesn't.
Does anyone else know of anything else I can try before I replace the mainboard? Thanks in advanced for any info.
Same problem
My wife's N8013 is in the same condition. It had gotten slower and slower and I planned to reset it. Somehow it seemed to lose Root awhile back. She said it behaved weird then did the hang at Sammy screen. Odin flash said pass but we know how it ends. Where do we go from here, I have been researching this Nand problem for most of the day and what people say works for their tablet is not fixing mine. Is it even repairable? She is considering Iphone and Ipads after this and problems with her locked bootloader GS5. Not happy with samsung lately.

My personal N8000 issue is somewhat like this.... Im noticing this is quite common for this device, also still waiting for a reply on my thread, but will be keeping close watch on this thread as well.
Which NAND module?
I'm ready to pull the trigger and order either a new motherboard or NAND chip but for the life of me I cannot pull up the right part number for the NAND. I want the part in hand before I tear it completely down. Mine is the;
GTN8013EAYXAR
Anybody able to help? the chip is on the underside of the board and I have the case open but want to see if part is even available first.

Unfortunately for the n8013, the nand chip is soldered to the board and surrounded by glue. It's possible to replace it for a skilled technician with the right tools [IR or dark IR reflow station]. Similar to replacing the xbox 360 gpu's, but these and solder beads are much smaller. The board would need to be replaced. I managed to find a couple on ebay that were pulled from working systems, but you really don't know how long it will last since this seems to be an issue that is starting to pop up more and more.
I'm planning on ditching the tablet and probably most Samsung devices and either build a small pc, buy a raspberry pi, or other "open" android device.
Here's the teardown guide from ifixit. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Note+10.1+Teardown/10144 You can see the NAND chip in step 14.
Replaced the entire tablet, nm
I picked another one off eBay. Sofar sogood. Wife is happy. No need to root it. Finished with sammy devices. Upgraded from my S5 phone to a Motorola X pure, never looking back. No crapware or locked BL hassles. Peace.

I didn't even bother replacing the board in mine. I'm just not using a tablet anymore. I too am done with Samsung devices. Upgraded my phone from the S4 to a Oneplus One. It's an awesome phone, everything I was looking for and then some.

GT-N8010 - Firmware Upgrade

Hey there!
Just ran into some troubles with my GT-N8010. I had been using stock on it for quite awhile, but have been noticing that many of the newer apps do not work with JB. I had rooted and used my Asus Transformer before, figured that it was probably about time to get some more life out of the Note 10.1.
My first option was to upgrade from JB to KitKat. Unfortunately there is not an official update in Canada, but using Odin I should have been able to upgrade it. This is where the issues came. First, it failed twice. I restarted the computer, and tried it once more. Success! It was downloading. It took a few moments, but eventually it failed as well. The download stopped and I was left looking at my tablet having 3/4 of the install complete. I left it for awhile, hoping that it would restart itself or reload. Nothing happened, and I had to restart the tablet.
Situation now: I am stuck at the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
First thing I tried was getting to the download screen, so I have that. I figured I could just flash it back to the offical JB from Canada, but now it's like the computer won't recognize the device. Even unplugging and plugging the USB back in does not even give me the PC Recognizing sound. I moved to a laptop, and it could read the device, but once I installed Samsung USB and Keis, it stopped. Odin doesn't recognize it and I am not sure where to go from here.
Is using the SD card an option? Can I somehow force the computer to read the tablet?
I have looked through the forums, but didn't really see much in the way of help.
I hope to hear from you guys! Thanks in advanced! If I need to provide more information, please ask.
Is using the SD card an option>>> NOT for stock custom rom only .
I don't mind installing a custom rom at this point. If it is still an option at this point the I don't mind at all. If there is anyway you could point me towards that option, I will definitely give it a shot.
The development threads.
You will need to flash a custom recovery tar through Odin .

Part of the problem is that the Odin, even my PC, are not recognizing the the Tablet is connected through my USB. So I cannot flash anything right now.
I figured it out. It was all because of my cord. I went out and got a new one, flashed 4.4.2 easily. Hope that helps everyone who has issues as I did.

Hi, I've read your posts. Helpful.
I'm in the situation of having tried to flash a custom recovery, to then flash a custom ROM.
Started Odin, began to flash, then Odin showed failed.
Now the n8000 no longer starts, just hangs after the Samsung logo/music.
I do have two different cords, so will try that later.
Question, did you end up flashing a custom ROM later, and if so, which one?
Thanks.
