will dirty flashing make my device slower? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

iv'e been dirty flashing new updates to the rom iam using (euphoria) ever since i first got it, and was wondering if i should do a clean install once every few versions.
1. if i dont have any bugs, any point in doing a clean install?
2. does the device get slower after a few dirty flash upgrades?
thanks =P

No to both questions. I dirty flash every cm12 build and I can't attribute slowness or bugs specifically to a dirty flash.
Euphoria isn't cm but its still android and the same basic logic would apply. I would clean flash when switching Roms, not necessarily when updating to a later version of a ROM.

Can I Upgrade Gummy?

I currently have Gummy's 2/9 Nightly running on my S3. Is there an easy way to update to the most recent nightly build? Or is a clean installation the only way?
Clean flash is always recommended, but you can dirty flash too. Worst comes to worst, things go wrong and you end up clean flashing anyway. Just make sure you back up anything important first.

[Q] CM12.1 nightlies to CM12S

Hi everyone! First of all, I was wondering if is it worth it to install CM12S having already CM12.1 last nightly; and if you say so, is it enough to make a clean install and flash the CM12S zip? Cause I don't wanna mess it up forgetting about flashing the correct boot.img or something and make my One a wonderful paperweight.
Thanks!
I haven't used 12.1 for a bit, as I went to 12S and have remained there until the official full 12.1S release arrives, but my suggestion is always to do a clean install. It provides the most assured way to have the most secure/error free system, and it takes a very short time, as well.
So there's no need to flash any boot or kernel?

No, the kernel is included in the zip. But always clean install.

updating Validus rom

I updated my bacon Validus ROM by simply downloading the latest update and flash it. It seemed to work.
However, on the forum I read you need to wipe system, data, and cache for every update in TWRP.
Is this really necessary? And if so, why is flashing the update over the previous build not recommended?
Thanks in advance!

It's not mandatory, but it's recommended. Because if there's any issues, we want to make sure it's not caused by dirty flashing. But most of the times you will be fine with dirty flashing. If you encounter any issue, be sure to make a clean flash before reporting it, otherwise you are safe to make a dirty flash until the device maintainer states that you make a clean flash.
Enjoy your Validus

Dirty flashing custom rom over stock rom [Rom works without GApps?] [i tried it]

Hi guys, sometimes dirty flashing is helpful to fix some bug but there is also chance for bug and even bootloop. To fix the fp gesture in RR rom dirty flashing any los based or los rom is useful (I flashed RR rom over crdroid rom). Likewise i thought flashing a custom rom over stock rom is useful ? Can fix onekey ? Or only bootloop ?
So finally I just flashed RR ROM over stock ROM, but the result is ROM got boot properly, but there is no use improvemwnt.
I also done a exp of flashing ROM without GApps, Basically Lineage os can run without GApps likewise other Roms can work ?
I tried with lineage OS based ROM and the result is , LOS based ROMs can work without Gapps.
#this is my personal experience #proceed at your own risk
Generally, dirty-flashing isn't recommend other than maybe for updating within a custom rom as it may cause "random" bugs up to bootloops. But, as always, simply do a backup and give it a try to be able to report back
It's not worth it. Rom will suffer

I tried and there is no improvement, it is better to do a clean flash always.

I wouldn't know too much about the technicalities, but it certainly doesn't hurt to do a clean flash. If it would be too much of hassle and/or you experience no issues, you should be fine with a dirty flash.

Should I flash Stock Firmware to Switch Between ROMS?

Hi all I am on my Redmi Note 8 running Pixel Experience 11+, I would like to switch to CorvusOS to mess around with Kernels (Bear with me it's a phase) and because the Dirty Unicorns thing intrigued me. I started the research phase by reading some articles and watching videos on YouTube, but many of them contradict each other. Some say you need to flash the Stock Firmware before flashing the ROM Zip, some say it doesn't matter no matter what ROM you come from. I'm getting mixed feelings here because they flaunt their ROM in the end of the video after contradicting each other. What should I do here esteemed developers? As an afterthought I also read that flashing Stock firmware would bring the Mi Recovery and I'm afraid it would overwrite TWRP and if I **** something up I wouldn't be able to restore my NANDROID Backups. What do I do?
These are the methods of flashing a ROM:
Dirty Flash = Flashing over current ROM
Clean Flash = Wiping EVERYTHING to make way for a new ROM.
A dirty flash keeps system data from the previous ROM. If the ROMs are not compatible with each other, you'll run into problems.
I always do a clean flash even if it's the same ROM... Takes away the headaches of trying to figure out the problems of a dirty flash.

Well PE and CorvusOS are definitely not compatible with each other, and my understanding is that Dirty Flashing Works only when updating a ROM. So should I flash the stock Firmware before flashing CorvusOS or is that not required since I'm planning to format data and then flash Corvus.
Thanks in advance.
In my opinion, the only thing that matters is that a backup of the /efs partition is made before installing a new ROM that fits the device.
I can not understand why an intermediate step should be taken. But of course you can do what you think you have to do.
