Can anyone address me to a dark themed google now launcher? I had it in Thyrus dark theme for terminus rom and, since I don't know how to extract that feature (for my own personal use, of course) from the theme, I was wondering if there's a ready-made version somewhere.
Thanks for any help

Yes, the nexus 5 themes and apps section. There is a dark theme. It has different parts, such as settings.apk and Google launcher

Thanks a lot. I'll look for it. Could you tell me which one, if at all possible? I don't if this is the right place to ask, but I sure know you're the right person to ask something to! What makes a theme specific to a rom or group of roms? I'd like to know because I'd love to learn how to make my own themes or use some theme for my purposes (I hope there's nothing against the unwritten rules of this world).
Thanks

There's a few material / dark themes. I had a look but it wasn't in the one I thought. That's either because it was the wrong one or it had been removed. Maybe ask in each thread if they theme Google launcher. I've definitely seen it but I thought it was the one by vivek.
As for why themes are ROM / build specific...
Themes are a combination of replacing images and editing XML files. These are mostly in framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
The easiest way to make a theme is to use these apk from a specific ROM. However, these apk ate specific to a specific ROM or build. For example ROM SlimLP has different features to stock so therefore has different code in these apk, so wrong apk, phone will boot loop. Same is true between 5.0.1 and 5.0.0 etc
There are more complicated ways to theme using things like ZipThemer. This will add your changes to the files that are on the phone already. This means it is more compatible than the easier method, as long as you don't change files that have special code from the Dev in them.

Thanks a lot for the explanantion. I will investigate a little more along the line you indicate.
Happy new year and thanks again (already hit the button!)
Theoretically, if i have a theme for a specific rom but for different update (same Google version, same build), i could extract the the file, replace the framework and system apks with the ones of the new update, re-compress the file and then flash it as a new theme? Seems a bit too easy, but IT makes sense, I think.

I was reading around and I read that with cm7.1 you get t mobile theme chooser, I just wanted to know how to get that on our hybrid version???
Since the theme is specific to the device as it is certain files that are modified, you would have to extract the parts of those files that actually make up the "theme." Most of the files, if I am correct, are .apk such as framework-res.apk, settings.apk, etc... You can't just extract those from any ROM as it will leave you in a bootloop or bricked. However, I would say that it is possible to get the theme chooser for our device, but there would be many parts that would have to be change in order to get it to work correctly. The theme that you would download with that app would download another app that changes the necessary files for you... However, with lots of research, lots of time, and lots of patience... anything is possible...

Hi,
I you feel this issue is solved please add [SOLVED] to the OP title

Shouldn't the themes for the International One X work for us as well? Especially since there's a new way of theming that just replaces the graphical stuff and not the actual apk. They say it should work on most devices with same sense versions. We have the same sense version, same resolution same buttons etc. I've tried a few but the developers have a model check and they abort. The one that i found over there that did not do a model check worked fine. Could someone with experience with themes chime in please? thanks!
EDIT. I'm only talking about themes With the villain theming system. It does not replace the apks, only mods them.

As a user, you don't need to know much - just flash this zip like a regular zip, and you'll get your theme running. But you should be able to apply themes to any device, ROM, and version of the ROM, without it causing adverse effects. That means less time spent by themers making the original theme, and less time spent modifying it constantly for new versions of ROMs.
Features..
Will modify APKs in a ROM, without changing signatures, and can be used on any ROM where the filenames of themed files is the same.
Should not need updated between versions of a ROM
Zipaligns all APKs before installation
Stores a backup of all files being modified in /cache/vrtheme-backup/
Requires no coding abilities or editing of files - just drag and drop
Can copy "raw" files, though at risk of not working on other devices

What "new theming method" are you talking about?
The only type of themeing I've seen is replacing system files, like SystemUI.apk and stuff.
It that's the case, then no it won't work.

I installed this theme without issues. Was made using villain theme system for the International one X
Quote from changelog of this theme
UPDATE 21 May: After a lot of tweaking and tinkering, have managed to make the theme work with the VillainTheme system. This means that it should now work with any ROM, and shouldn't affect any of the ROM dev's individual tweaks.
The theme modifies the following system apks:
framework-res.apk
SystemUI.apk
com.htc.resources.apk
fusion.apk

That's definitely not a good idea. Most Sense themes contain the SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk. So if the rom your using on your AT&T One X has any mods done to any of those apk's you will loose them and if the rom that the theme was built for has any mods done to those apk's you will more than likely have issues. If there is a specific theme you like, get me the link and I will try to port it over.

There is no need to decompile and recompile. You can just copy/paste same named png-s in .apk/res/drawable nodpi or drawable xxhdpi for our device. That works for all apps from factory image.

Whith respecr dear Lethargy! You don't need to decompile and signing properly stock app. For example: if you want to change almost all of UI, you just have to change images in framework-res.apk. You don' t need to do things mentioned before. When I was on Xperia I made this way too UI look like AOSP as possible.
I think that for noob is enough to know that. But off course, if you are UI designer and developer that isn't enough.

If your referring to V4A instead of a different addon by the Viper Rom community then just d/l either of the OGD Deodexed Roms we have and V4A works perfect and if you have a car with a system hold onto your windows, it sounds pretty sweet! Like wake the neighborhood with a factory Ford Shaker 1000 system have my phone hooked up with a aux cable running V4A with the Super Driver and Advanced Controls tuned. Has been a few years. I quit making roms and themes about two years ago. Well roms first, then the themes. When Samsung came out with the QMG images, that was it. I had enough of jumping thru loops to make a theme for the Note 4. Love the phone, hated the OS for the phone.
So bud, are you do any theming for the Note 5. Maybe you can give me a hand. I am a little confused on what can and can not be done. The reason I was able to do a basic theme was the framework-res and systemui was already converted. I read the previous app used to convert the images to png's doesn't work for this phone. So let me know if you know how to convert the qmg's to png's, or anyone here that can help.

No problem I tried yesterday on the settings apk and had no problem with any png's. So the conversion still works for the Note 5. That's what I get for reading one post and taking that as fact. I use VTS for decompiling and reconpiling and had no problems with the framework-res, systemui and the systems apk's. But when I try to recompile a couple of other's. Like the Samsung keyboard even without changes they give a Java error. I have updated both apktooland smali files to the latest. But that didn't help, still get the same error. I applied for Samsung Theme it twice and was declined both times. Something about I didn't provide enough information about the themes I have already done. Not sure what they are looking for. I provided linked images to some 20 themes and roms I have done.... Maybe that's it, they don't people who know how to hack their phone.

In the search field, type picconv. Should be the 1st link. Beware V2.1 converts the 9.qmg to regular .PNG images. If u want to edit .9. images u will need to add the black lines. Hopefully the developer will get this fixed soon.
As far as Samsung goes, I think if u provide proof of themes u have make. And the link is a post on XDA u are blacklisted. Samsung straight out told me in a phone conversation that they do not want us rooting our phones. Yeah, they want to control the themes available and make money doing it.

See how u can work with this info for your own convenience.
There is a way but you must know how to use apktool and have knowledge of what goes where. If unpack a theme store theme you will be able to say swap the lockscreen apk for another themes.
Edge of insanity
You can in fact disable parts of themes if you have root. For example if you want to keep stock keyboard theme and everything else be black, you need to find the apk for that portion of the theme and delete it after the complete them has been installed and reboot. Freezing them won't work.
You can use this tutorial to find the part of the theme that you do not want to apply. Hope this helps.

You can replace the icons for any app inside a theme without root. I mean the ones which are already in such theme. You don't even need a PC!
I have just moved to the s7 edge and I am temporarily unrooted and it took me something like 5 minutes to figure how to do it lol!
Apk extractor plus apk editor (the second one is a paid app) and the trick is done. Just extract the theme you need and replace the icons inside with your favorite ones. Just remember that png files must be renamed to qmg (just renamed, not converted). Recompile and install. Apply another theme and then apply the one you have just modded, that's all!
Weird nobody has shared a guide yet. If any of you appreciates it, I can share a detailed how to.
Apk editor is not compulsory, but it is one of the few paid apps I bought.

Sorry
Easy : if you want for example not the icons of the theme : use ''Debloater'' search it on xda, kill ''Theme ... apicon'' and on your phone you can now see it in app, uninstall, reapply theme and that's all ^^
Hey bro have you managed to make the tutorial? As the previous poster said... Many would like to do the same. For example I'm looking for a way to rip icon pack from touchwiz theme. I don't know how.
The theme is called Grey_abstraction from guy called Alex pie. I like the theme but I love the icons but he does not have it in the theme store. Would you know how to do that?
I'm NOT rooted
