I recently picked up a Xoom that had been rooted. I took it back to stock with the help of the information I found here. I have been prompted for multiple OTA updates. I just finished installing ice cream sandwich.
My question is, if I install the jellybean update (4.1.2), will I still be able to install a custom Rom like Kitakat at a later date?
Thanks in advance.

I have two older Xooms that have been updated to 4.1.2 They both run fine, and I'm planning to up them (one at a time if all goes well) to 4.4.4 soon On of my was an original Chinese Xoom and it had to been hacked to get it to update the first time. But the other updated automatically all the way to 4.1.2 . I plan to use OmniRom 4.4.4 from schischu's OmniRom 4.4.4 thread.

Hi,
I have a droid 2 that is currently running the leaked version of the gingerbread ROM that was released a few months ago. Now that Motorola has finally rolled out the official gingerbread update, I'd like to switch back to that. How would I go about doing this? Is there an official ROM that I could flash on to go back or an update that I could do?
Also, once I get on the official Gingerbread release, is there a way I could root the phone again? Has anyone tried rooting this release yet?
Thanks for your help,
Josh
Hi all,
I am receiving a factory refurbished Wifi-only Xoom next week. I am guessing that it will be on 3.0, and I'd like to bring it up to the latest JB and install a custom rom (probably EOS 3 for the moment, then EOS 4 at the next MR).
What's the best procedure for this? Should I take OTA updates up to 4.1.2, then unlock, root and install a ROM? Or should I just unlock, root and flash a ROM from the start, i.e. skipping the OTA updates? Or does it not really matter?
Thanks in advance.

Not really answering your question, just an opinion .....
Why not just leave it on OTA 4.1.2? Unless you have a real need to unlock or some pressing need for 4.2. In my experience the difference between 4.1.2 and 4.2 is insignificant. EOS 3 is conceivably a back step on the OTA updates. Continually updating for updating's sake is fine if that is your hobby (and that is why you are here in these forums), but it might not achieve much. And you could replace a smooth stable 4.1.2 with a buggy and laggy 4.2 - for what?
If there is some app or function you need that requires root or a custom rom then that is a different story.
I am awaiting a refub MZ604 myself so I share you impulse, but I am taking a wait and see approach and giving it some thought.

Hey, thanks a lot for your advice. I wasn't so much counting on jumping ahead to 4.2 just yet, so I'm with you there.
Regarding a 4.1.1 ROM vs the 4.1.2 OTA, I had thought (just based on my personal experience with other Android devices, my Razr in particular) that a nice 4.1.1 ROM like EOS 3 would outperform stock, even a version that is one minor update ahead, since the ROM would (presumably) be optimized, free of bloatware, etc. Perhaps that's not a big issue with the Xoom?
Again, thanks. I'll probably take your advice and see how things go with 4.1.2 OTA for a while.
Interestingly, the refurbished Xoom came with 4.1.2 pre-loaded. I wasn't expecting that. Seems to be running fine.
Mine arrived today. It only took 11 days to cross the world. An MZ604 GED device. Came with 4.04 then promptly updated itself to 4.1.1 then a few minutes later it upgraded itself to 4.1.2. It is pure Android and runs fast and smoothly.
More than happy with this refurb - it looks brand new and 4.1.2 is new enough.
All,
I am mobile android/web developer and I just wanted to get a better insight on when and if Jelly Bean will be released on the Motorola Xyboard. I head rumors that it is staying on 4.0.4 but I wanted to see if you guys have some better sources :cyclops:. Thank you.

Xyboards getting Jelly Bean
Looks like the Verizon Droid Xyboard 8 & 10 is getting Jelly Bean 4.1. As of yesterday, according to the Motorola Software Upgrade Time-line website. fyi

I am also hunting for a technique for rooting xyboard mz617 devices (I've got 10 of them I want to update to the latest they will support and they are stuck on Android 4.0.4).
Please update if you come across a good set of instructions / tools.
( also hunting on xoomforums.com )

As I have a XOOM 2 running Android 4.0.4, I'm searching for further update for this device.
I found that the EOS Team has released Android 4.1.2 nightly build for XOOM, but not the XOOM 2 version.
Actually I haven't seen any 4.1.2 build for XOOM 2. So I want to ask,
can I use XOOM rom on the XOOM 2? if Not, is there any stable room for XOOM 2 in the entire forum?
if there is, i hope that you will send me a link of the thread.
thx for your help!
No
I Dont know much about the xoom 2 but the bootloader was never unlocked therefore no custom roms thats why theres no dev support

I've recently received a Xoom 2 but it's running 3.2.2 , You've updated it or it was the original version came from the company?
another interesting matter is that I've not seen any motorola device managers that support Xoom 2!

Tablet is upgradeable directly from Motorola to version 4.0.4 (versions can be checked e.g. https://motorola-global-en-uk.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/1994). Some time ago in some language version there were not clearly stated, that 4.0.4 would be the last version for Xoom2, but now it seems that it is.
Device manager at least for US version: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/78644/p/7901,8197

Hello! I have been running CM12 (lollipop 5.0.1) on my XT926 for months now, only updated it once from the original version posted. I decided to update it again because a few things have become wonky; however, it seems the thread no longer exists. AM I GOING CRAZY?!?! Did it ever exist? Did it have to get taken down? Can someone please fill me in? I have absolutely been ENTHRALLED with this ROM and do not want to put something else on here if an updated version of CM12 is floating around here somewhere. I saw Validus is on here, which will serve as my next ROM if this has ceased to exist. Any info is much appreciated!
Thanks!

There is no way to downgrade if you're locked. Please search next time, this has been asked and answered a lot.
