Just got my Sprint s5 recently and I wanted to root it but its on 4.4.4 already. I was looking in the rooting thread and it says to flash an old kernel with odin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737724&page=15) ( scroll to bottom). My question is, how do I use odin to flash it? I'm just not too familiar with Odin and I don't want to mess my phone up...
Thanks.

Install odin to your pc along with the kernel. Put your phone in download mode, start Odin, uncheck auto reboot, click pda, find the kernel, start it, run it, when it's done, you should see green light. Reboot, profit you can root from there. Good luck!

Those .zip files are intended to be flashed in custom recovery. What you need are the .tar.md5 kernels. Here is a link to all the kernels. You are probably looking for this one.

NK4 is the update. Towelroot won't work on it, and if you have the update, you already have that. You need to flash NE5.

Here are the steps:
1. Download towelroot from towelroot.com and install but don't run it.
2. Odin the NE5 kernel to your phone and reboot. Your phone will run slow and you will have to close and cancel a lot of error messages because of the wrong kernel installed.
3. Run towelroot and click on make it rain. When completed reboot in to download mode.
4. Now odin the NK4 kernel and reboot.
5. Install chainfires SuperSU from the play store, run it, select normal way for the binary install, select yes when it asks to disable knox. Reboot and enjoy your rooted NK4 phone.
If you want hotspot, download Galaxy Tools from the play store and select enable native hotspot.

No, it will not trip Knox. The only way to trip Knox is if you install a custom recovery.

I am 100% sure, the only way to trip knox is to install a custom recovery. That is why cf autoroot trips knox, it temporarily installs a custom recovery to gain root.

As stated above I just received an update to my 8013 which was already running 4.1.2. Does anyone know what this is? Once updating I lost root and have yet to find a way to re-root. The method i was trying previously fails each time. this way : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv8440QhHsw
Anyone know what this update is/does and how to re root once updated? Thanks
My note downloaded this overnight and I installed it today. I suspect these may be more minor security tweeks. Lookout reported that 3 apps (screensaver and two others, not individually identified) were updated and were safe. I've not noticed any significant changes.
Were you able to obtain root? And if so how?
Sorry, I'm not rooted. Were you using the one-click method?
I am rooted. I used mobile odin pro to install firmware. I set it to inject root, mobile odin, su. Cannot see differences yet, but still rooted.

You just root the same way you did previously. It should work fine.
Is there anyway to update and keep root? Has anyone tried this update with mobile odin pro's "ever-root" feature? I would prefer not have to use the original method I used to root because it increases flash count and it's annoying to have to go through the process of removing the count.
Or could someone upload an odexed completely stock version?

first page of this thread bro
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2227512
as for your triangle count, thats easy. Just use TRIANGLE AWAY from the play store...
I had already read the first post but it didn't say anything about having tried to use mobile odin to update and keep root which is why I posted my question. Plus as I mentioned I would prefer not to have to go through the whole triangle away process. I always wind up having to flash a new firmware and do a complete restore in order to remove the 1 binary count even after using triangle away. That's a short explanation of the whole process I always have to go through and it takes a long time.
If it was quick, I wouldn't be asking how to update and keep root.

Do note that if your phone has the nasty habit of sometimes not booting up when charger is plugged in, it will fail and you'll have to flash a new stock firmware with odin.
This happened to me yesterday.. Very nasty.. Recovery wouldn't boot neither except for download mode.

Geohot has found a vulnerability in the New ATT/VERIZON S5 and confirmed by users it works on our i337 ATT NC1 FIRMWARE ONLY. Check out his thread HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157

So I downloaded Alliance rom and it boots up just fine. But there's only one issue, the WiFi won't turn on. I tap the toggle, and it says on for a second, then it turns off. I have no idea why, but I've tried different kernels and roms and its the same thing. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Go back into the Safestrap thread and download the VRUCML1 kernel modules. If you want working wifi whenever you flash a TouchWiz rom through Safestrap, you must flash these as well. These will only work if your baseband is VRUCML1 (Settings/About Phone/Baseband). If you are on VRUCNC1 then you need to Odin flash VRUCML1 tar then root and run Safestrap.

Cool, let me know how it goes. Remember, once on VRUCML1 and Safestrap, flash the rom then kernel modules. If the rom has an option for Safestrap then choose that and see if wifi works BEFORE reflashing and flashing with VRUCML1 kernel modules.

The original one I had was only 2 megabytes compared to the 19 Megabyte one I just got. In the description of Alliance rom, it says to flash the module, then the rom. I did that, chose the safestrap kernel and it reboots after 30 seconds on the rom. It keeps doing that. So then I wiped it, and tried a different kernel, which is the stock Alliance one, and it boots up and works fine, but no WiFi. I'm completely lost here, as I just got this phone 3 days ago. And I took the 4.3 update with no knowledge of the locked bootloader If you have any more suggestions, please inform me. Thanks.

Any android device that has NFC and any working card will work fine, although it won't work if you are rooted

odin to stock OKC, then odin philz and after that flash this supersu zuper. 2.66 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
this allows you to retain stock kernel while be rooted.
