Hey there, I've recently managed to get root on my tablet, and I want to now fix this issue.
The feature simply doesn't show up in the Settings app. Using this app makes it appear there, but if I reboot, it goes away. Is there a way to make it permanently enabled?
Hi,
We need to know your device make and model number to point you towards help.
Thanks!

Sorry, I assumed the fix would be general and wouldn't have to be for a specific model or such.
As for the tablet and it's model/specs, all I've managed to find is a mention of it being a ZTE E8QP on the "instructions" manual, and a bit of Google searching told me that it is a ZTE E8Q actually.
You can also find the tablet's page here, but it only lists the specs basically.
I am thinking the issue is how you rooted. Did you use towel root or something similar? Those root methods don't survive a reboot or power down. So any root system changes you make reset after rebooting.
The only way to avoid this is with write protection disabled, Usually by unlocking the bootloader, or using an exploit. But those exploits are usually for the more popular devices, and many don't work on newer Android updates.
All that said, for further help, you'll need to ask for help here,

Good luck!

Nevermind, I found another way to enable it, there is this Xposed module which does the exact same thing, and keeps working after reboot! Still, thanks!
Awesome! Thread closed. ?

I bought a used XT925 today. While the previous owner did go to some trouble to clean it, it still has a bunch of apps and some settings that I really don't want. Also, as a privacy paranoiac, I'm worried that there may be something malicious (however slight the possibility).
The device is rooted and running JB 4.1.2. I would love to factory reset it but having read a few reports of people losing root or worse (here, here, here and here, to list just a few) that plan seems ill-advised.
I've been toying with trying to script some kind of fs compare against a fs from a rom, but I'm not sure if this is even feasible. So far the only other thing I can think of to do is uninstall all the apps and manually sift through and delete all the other junk in the filesystem.
Does anyone have any suggestions on returning my device to the most "virgin" state possible while retaining root?

Simplest way is to use RSD Lite to send your device back to stock 4.1.2 -- then you can use the recently posted root method to gain root back. It should take < 15 minutes to do, most of that spent flashing with RSDLite. It'll actually take longer to download all the ADB drivers, Moto drivers, etc -- if you don't have them already.

Whats up,
Cpudan80 is right, your best bet is to flash stock 4.1.2, and to reroot. And it does take about 15 minutes if you don't already have drivers and stuff, but I can help you out, by linking you to my utility, which essentially does the heavy lifting of finding all of the programs and stuff, and puts it together into one convenient package.
Find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241788

Thanks for the replies! Would you link me to that root method, Cpudan80? All of the root methods I've been able to find say that you must flash 4.0 or CWM first in order to root, then protect root and upgrade to JB again. Is there a new better way which doesn't require downgrading?

There's a thread on here somewhere -- but here's the thread I followed (after using RSDLite to go back to clean 4.1.2). No hard steps at all, just run a bat file - press enter and viola - you're rooted.

Amazing, thanks! I had seen that exploit at one point when I was considering getting an earlier RAZR version and was looking into how easy it was to root it. I thought that exploit didn't work with the XT925 since there was no link to it in the forum (and searches only revealed many tales of failed root attempts and downgrades). Thanks again!
Greetings! I need assistance rooting an LG Optimus F60 that has been tinkered with before. What I mean is, I had a guy unlock my phone since I switched carriers, and if I recall correctly( though not very sure) he used a few apps like kingroot to gain permission to unlock the device. He did not root the phone though, and I want to root it now(several months later).
The problem I stumble upon is that flashing SuperSU zips did not work. I have the app, but the binaries could not be pushed. I have tried manually pushing the binaries, but I was denied access...
I hope someone understands my problem and is able to help. I am more of a PC tinkering guy, never got into "hardcore" android customization, but I would really like to install apps on my sd card.
Thank you for reading, It should be solvable, and also sorry if my issue is common and/or has been posted before, I tried searching, but couldn't find anything(maybe I did not search good enough, sorry!)

Thanks for dropping by, I have tried the guide you linked to me, but I couldn't get it to work. When updating the binaries, SU gives the error "Installation failed. Please reboot and try again". Root checker says I don't have root access too. If you want to assist me whist i'm trying this again, or have any other solutions, feel free to add me on skype (s1ckzombie)
Edit: If I access busybox installer, it says i'm rooted, but I don't have busybox (Busybox location: N/A)
Edit 2: Maybe this screenshot will provide additional info. http://imgur.com/34hnjrP
Edit 3:Turns out I had my device on MTP, will try again on PTP
Edit 4: Doesn't work even with PTP turned on. Bummer
Edit 5: Doesn't work even with the one click application... The one-click app outputs a succesful root but my device is still not rooted... I tend to believe that it's not my fault by now
I have a phone with a tiny market (SGHITECH EX-SG001), and there are no available rooting softwares/guides around. I've been trying to find different methods to root it, and most methods I've found seem to require root access already (eg editing the boot.img file), or use a toolkit of some sort.
I understand that the bootloader is unlocked, and the kernel is insecure. It uses an ARMv7 processor, running 4.4.2, and does not have any custom recoveries that I can use. Will be using the su binaries and supersu apk from chainfire. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
You are right, I don't see any custom recoveries for your phone. In fact, you seem to be the first to ask about this device. So you will have to use a toolkit.
Here is a good start:
http://www.xda-developers.com/root/
I would recommend documenting your progress in a new thread in the following forum:
> General discussion > Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking
...this way, your fellow users can find you, and hey, they might have some wisdom to share. Please note, you will have to be registered for an XDA account before posting there.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Thanks! I tried the toolkits there already, except for kingroot which I have my reservations about because of some concerns raised in the thread. Is there any manual way to root without using any toolkit?

Hello again,
Some toolkits (like SafeRoot) are scripts run from the PC end, which can be analysed at every step. I wouldn't mess with any of the steps, except make sure SuperSU (or at least some superuser app) was there as a gatekeeper. It just allows for a sort of quality control in the end.
In the end, rooting methods are now complicated enough that it is easier to push them out by a script. So manual ways are a lost art.
Hope this helps.
so like the title states, i'm trying to flash twrp and get root. i've tried idk how many different methods and i'm hitting a brick wall. bootloader is unlocked, recowvery is giving me an error before closing itself, not doing anything. verified device is recognized by adb.
also tried flashing recovery using flashboot, but obviously that doesn't work on a20. i'm open to suggestions as i would really like to have a custom recovery
i could flash a rooted .kdz/.tot but i have yet to find one that is a20 or higher.

Sorry, to hear that it didn't work for you. In my experience, this has to be related to not following the instructions to the point. I was also stuck myself initially, only to find out later that I missed something in the instruction. Give us more detail, otherwise no one can help you. Which firmware version are you on? Which method are you trying? Is it an automated script or manual. IMO, the manual method works best, and easier to troubleshoot.

If this worked, good for you.
But I don't think it should work. Last time I checked, the very fastboot flash command is disabled in LG G5. Recowvery is supposed to be the only way.
BTW, I don't trust root and unlock methods outside of xda. There are lots of clickbait articles, which has the potential to brick your device.

THIS!!!!
Other root methods and apps that root and all that stuff are just BEGGING for your phone to be destroyed. I used a KingRoot solution once on an old phone that no XDA certified method still worked on....it rooted it just fine. But all the added junk it installed as system files with highly restrictive permissions that made them impossible to remove essentially made the device unusable. This was an old phone I was just using for an experiment anyway so no loss. But it illustrates why any root methods not found on XDA are highly risky.
I mean, sometimes a questionable root method gets posted on XDA too. But it's usually debunked as a bad idea within a day or two. (Sometimes within an hour) So you can read about real world experience with that method on a specific device and know if you should avoid it or not.
And there are other Android developer sites like XDA that can give good root options and solutions, as well as good advice for a phone in general. I'm not suggesting that anything outside of XDA is crap. If you find a good root solution on another website that has a reputable history and you trust it, great.! But never google "Root my phone" and try the first option that pops up on some sketchy Chinese / Russian / Martian website.
Were you on updated nougat version and rolled back to v20a using lgup?
Hello XDA Community,
I have an old tablet, the Huawei T1-701ua. In recent times I haven't used it as much, but it's because it's running slow.
I want to root it and repurpose it for something else, like a portable media device. Because this tablet is my only one with a moderately big screen. But I've been running into some issues.
The bootloader is locked with a code, that I just cannot unlock. It's argubly the dumbest system Huawei has invented for locking a bootloader. But even if I really was able to unlock it. What do I do with it? Paying a small fee for the code is okay.
And even if I went through all these roadblocks and successfully rooted my tablet, I can't see any officially supported custom roms/images for it, and I don't want to risk bricking it. I've wanted for a long time to install another OS on it, but I wasn't knowledgeable enough.
*I don't want to use Kingroot, Kingoroot, or other one tap root apps, since to me they seem unsafe, and it also makes this rooting process way less interesting*
So with this post, I am kindly asking anyone who sees this to answer a couple of questions, that will help me greatly.
1. Is it worth it to root, in order to remove all bloatware and make this tablet run better, or is there another way?
2. What do I do in order to unlock bootloader with the code?
3. Can I install a custom rom/image/OS through recovery, that isn't supported, and not get my tablet bricked? (eg. LineageOS, even if it's an older version)
I still haven't figured out how and with what exactly I will root my tablet eventually, but due to the lack of information about rooting this kind of tablet, and almost no custom rom developers including this tablet in their support list, I haven't decided.
I will greatly appreciate if anyone who does have information about this topic, link me to another forum post or etc. if this sort of stuff can be easily answered there.
Thanks in advance.
bump
Simple. No. It is not possible to install another OS. Most, if not all Huaweis, has 3 states only: EMUI, off and bricked.
Thanks for the reply! I guess Huaweis are just the worst devices for rooting/installing another OS. Bad luck I got right there.
I am not gonna root it, maybe just a factory reset and debloating wherever I can.
