Hello,
I have an HTC One M8 32 GB from Verizon that is GSM unlocked and unrooted. The phone is running android 4.4.2, so I went to the settings to try and do a software update, but that option is greyed out and says "Update only works in CDMA mode". And then I found this link, not sure if it helps, but can anyone help me as to how I can update my phone? Thanks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845
Also a couple of questions are:
-Do I need root or any type of special permission to run an RUU?
-Does this factory reset my phone in that it clears all data?
-Does the RUU included have the HTC Sense UI
If someone could give me a step-by-step guide it would be awesome.

You don't need to root to run those. They won't wipe anything. If you are stock your data will remain. These are all official sense ruu.
You MAY want to s-off using sunshine first. The reason i say this is some unlocked and non-vzw users have apn issues that they were only able to fix by downgrading. If you are s-on and upgrade there will be no downgrade possible.

1) you mean Sim - unlocked right? In that case it won't get locked even if you update the phone software.
2)First and important step is using the search function and I known its very hard for you but once in a while try using the search function, trust me you won't get tired
Follow the instructions in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30741993

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't know how to do that. I guess I'll hold off 4.0.4 for now...
You need to read some more, before running things willy-nilly without the proper research.
I would advise against running the 2.20 RUU. As I already mentioned, it updates the hboot, which robs you of the ability to flash kernels and radios. There is no upside to it, since you can flash the ROM in other ways. Your phone is bootloader unlocked, and has full ability to flash kernels and radios. These are all good things. Don't take a step backward by flashing the 2.20 RUU.
If all you want is to update the ROM to 2.20, just flash the pre-rooted ROM (which will not replace the hboot): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812459
But in fact, these are more recent versions:

Ya know, you guys CAN extract the rom.zip from 2.2x ruu and pull each image and flash them individually to get the 2.2x updates and keep your unlocked 1.09 hboot intact. That way you dont have to do the kernal flashing and what not. It will be fully updated, sbl's, radio everything.

Thanks a lot guys. I should have done some research. I bought this phone second hand thinking "unlocked" meant I could use it on other networks --didn't know the previous owner meant he unlocked the bootloader...hahaha...I guess i'll do some research to relock it.

Didn't read a thing I typed, apparently.
No need to relock it. Just run one of the stock rooted or custom ROMs in Development. Flash a new radio if you want.
I'm sorry, i really don't know how to do any of those stuff...
I just got the phone a couple of days ago and i am still waiting on my t-mobile non-gba micro sim that i ordered online, now im really not sure anymore if its unlocked to other networks...
I won't know til that sim card gets here, but in the mean time i'll do some reading on all those stuff you mentioned =)
I went to the HTC site and did a manual update, but I dont have sense 4.1. anyone know if the ATT version will get it?
plz help
I have a at&t one x I bought last night that is unlocked and I am using on telus.
The phone isn't rooted and is running on android 4.0.3 and HTC sence 4.0
When I try to update it nothing happens. My brother has the same phone thro telus and has received updates. I have went to settings about phoneat&t updates but when I search it does not do nothing .
An AT&T phone won't get the updates unless it's on their network it seems. Just download the ruu

Bump. I unlocked my Rogers One X a while back, because I am planning on selling it. Since that time though, I have run an RUU on it. I no longer have another carrier's SIM card to test, so I just want to know if the unlock is permanent , or if it gets relocked when an RUU or factory reset is run.
The SIM unlock is permanent and will survive any RUU or factory reset.

I loved my ChaCha so much I bought a second Black version from Canada's mobile network Telus. Of course it must be tweeked to get the most benefit, so I went to HTCDev to unlock the bootloader. When I run the RUU it tells me that I don't have the latest version. The Telus RUU on HTCDev is 1.24.661.1, but I already have 1.24.661.2 installed. I am lost as to what to do next. I've looked through the forums to find a similar situation but am unlucky.
What I am trying to do is make it so I can get data using my AT&T SIM (voice works, but not data), and run Didije's Custom Stripped Rom.
I guess what I am asking is ...
1. Is there a way to roll my RUU version back?
2. Does anyone have the Telus WWE RUU version 1.24.661.1, executable (.exe)?
3. Is there a way to get root with my current setup.
4. Any workarounds come to mind?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I ended up finding a thread that explains how to work this. Simply put, just go to the next step. At the HTCDev site, you do not have to install the Updated RUU. Just scroll to the bottom and click, "Next Step."

Thank you! I reported this to HTC back in August, but they said just keep checking back. I didnt notice that there is now a notice on the RUU page saying "If your RUU is newer than the one listed below, skip this step and go to the next step"
Had given up hope for rooting this device - 4 apps and i am already getting "no memory" messages
Before anyone tries to flame me, I've read all of the recent ICS and JB rom threads, as well as most of the generic question threads. I've unlocked, rooted, and flashed several roms before settling on CleanROM so I am not a complete noob. The master q&a thread doesn't cover RUUs much, and people aren't that interested in applying non rootable RUUs, so info on going back to stock on a newer or even older RUU doesn't seem to be widely available. My biggest concern is bricking my phone or losing major functionality, as some people using asian based roms seem to be having reboot and/or wifi issues.
1. Applying a different carriers S4 JB RUU is perfectly safe as long as I relock the boot loader, even with Super-CID.
I've seen conflicting reports of issues with RUUs when you have Super-CID, even with the original shipping RUU and a relocked boot loader. Can someone confirm that using RUUs is safe as long as the boot loader is relocked? What if it isn't relocked? Just an error or a bricked phone?
2. Once you unlock your phone on 1.14, you are stuck with that radio forever unless you apply an RUU or switch to Cyanogenmod.
3. Assuming RUUs are safe, applying a different carriers' RUU on my AT&T One X won't hurt anything. There may be apn issues, but otherwise everything should work (especially the camera and wifi).
Again, I understand that without root, I may not be able to add apns anyway. AT&T at least seems to have blocked the ability on their stock rom; not sure if other carriers do the same.
I really appreciate the help. I have searched, so this is more of a confirmation than anything else. Just trying to avoid bricking my phone and learn something new at the same time.

Im on hboot 1.14, firmware 2.20 att. Unlocked , rooted , flashed Rom. However , I had some problem then decided go back stock.
1. Downloaded ruu2.20 for att
2. Relock bootloader
3. Boot phone to bootloader mode then run ruu. Now my phone is stock
P/s :
- you don't need to root your phone to add apn . I can add T-Mobile apn just fine after I flashed ruu.
- ruu.exe can't run if you bootloader is unlocked.

Thanks - that answers my RUU questions as far as going back to stock using RUUs. I assume the same applies to other carrier's RUUs, i.e. Telus/Asia. What about using an OTA on a phone with Super-CID?
redpoint73 said:
A factory reset or running the RUU will not change the CID.
SuperCID doesn't prevent you from getting the AT&T OTA (although root and unlocked bootloader will).

Okay, I think that answers my questions. No problems with using a RUU, AT&T or otherwise, as long as it is for the XL. Stuck on my current radio unless I use a RUU. And I need to relock my bootloader before applying a RUU, although I can unlock it after. I will lose root, however. Thanks!
Hello. I have an HTC One from C Spire (Cellular South). The bootloader is unlocked and I am rooted with no custom ROM. I am using TWRP and SuperSU. I had to use the Sprint Version of TWRP and SuperSU in order to root. I have not had any issues but I am stuck on 4.2.2. I would like to get my phone back to stock so that I can update to 4.3.
After doing: fastboot getvar version-main
It returned: version-mian: 2.04.563.2
My boot menu says:
M7_WLS PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBoot-1.54.0000
RADIO-1.00.20.0725
OS-2.04.563.2
I'm fairly new to rooting and I'm not sure how to undo this. I know with other carriers it is quite easy. That's not the case with CSpire. The only thing I can think of is to somehow get S-OFF, although I'd rather avoid doing so. I thought I needed to find the CSpire RUU files, but I do not think that is the case. Since I have not installed a Custom ROM can I just do an Android OTA?
Have you had any success as of yet finding the RUU for CSpire ? I too have an HTC One from CSpire. I have gotten as far as unlocking the phone but until I find the factory flash for our device I am afraid to root my phone... Please help me if you know where to find this... Thanks.....

No luck. I took my phone to CSpire since my SIM card was not working. They saw that it was rooted and wouldn't touch it. They wiped my phone and during the process wiped the OS. So the phone was then useless. The guy suggested that since I had purchased the warranty that I should just drop my phone in a pool so that they could replace it. So I did that. Now I have a brand new one. I wouldn't suggest rooting until someone releases the ruu files. :/
I also tried to use Cyanogen Mod for sprint devices but I could not get cellular data with it. So do not root if you ever plan on restoring.
Thanks

I just picked up an HTC One this afternoon. I was hoping there would be some development going on but like everyone else mentioned, I can't find any stock files for C Spire. I hope something will come out soon. When the HTC Hero was released, C Spire had all of the RUU files and updates on their website....
Stock Backup
Is it possible to switch to an alternate recovery such as TWRP or CWM without rooting first? If so, couldn't we just make a backup of a non-rooted stock rom and just revert back to that if there is a problem?
I have posted a non rooted backup of my htc one, we also have a working 4.4.2 rom made just for c spire if anyone wants to check it out. Voice, Data, sms, mms all work.

Hey, how is it going? Some months ago, I received an used HTC ONE M8 Harman/Kardon edition. It was almost new. The thing is that since I got it, it has a custom rom (Bad Boyz Sprint ONE M8 Harman v2.1 ART).
I recently want to update to Sense 7.0 (currently 6.0) and also update android to 5.0 (currently 4.4.4), but I just can't from the update software section. If I press to verify updates, it just never appears to find something. I think it has to be something related with the fact that it is not the original rom. The phone was bought in US but I'm not in the US. I'm just worried that the ROM was installed in order to function out of the US, I mean, with other network.
So, I'm asking if you think that uninstalling the custom ROM may affect negatively to my phone.
Hi.
It is a Sprint based ROM, so going back to stock shouldn't affect it.
You could run the RUU that is available on the official US HTC website. But please realize that Sense 7 isn't out yet. If you go back to stock you will get the update via OTA when it is available.
Here is a link for the Sprint Harman/Kardon RUU. Scroll down to the manual update instructions and read them. The RUU download is at the end of them.
All data on your phone will be erased, so make a backup of anything important to you.
Also, if you are S-On, you will have to relock your bootloader first. If S-Off it is not necessary. You can check if you are S-Off by booting to your bootloader (turn off your phone, then boot it by holding power+vol. down).
If you are S-Off, it will say at the top under where it says ***unlocked***.
If not you will have to use ADB/fastboot to relock it with this command:
fastboot oem lock
Then run the RUU, and you will be stock Lollipop.

Can't get my phone recognized in HTC Sync Manager, as the process of the manual update indicates. I already toggled debug usb, re-installed software, selected mode on the phone, etc. And nothing seems to happen. Can't find either the solution online. And the Sync manager is at the last update.
