I'm trying to use my Hero to "stream" video from TVersity, whenever I click on a link it tries to download it (as TVersity won't actually stream video to it), and then fails almost immediately. It works ok from my PC. I'm using videos converted to work on an iPod so the actual media should play fine (.MP4) but for some reason the system downloader doesn't want to work.
If I click on a .mp3 then the Streaming media player kicks in and downloads the file which then plays fine.
Any ideas?
Is there currently a DLNA / UPNP PLAYER (going from a server to the phone.... not the other way around) for Android?
I believe the Galaxy S phones were supposed to have one? If so, did anyone extract them?
I also would like to know if something like this is available. I can play back mp3 and jpg on my Desire HD, but not video files.
My GT-I9000 Galaxy has a program called AllShare. I just use Media player 12 on my WiN7 machine and it allows me to stream to AllShare. I can play divx movies, tv series, and other videos just fine off my home wifi network.
Gmote for audio works great.
I was looking for more for the video option. I have a ton of divx / xvid on my server.
When I use astro with the smb addon..... I can search the server but then I get an error when Rockplayer tries to play it.
estrongs isn't able to let me login for some reason.
But since my NAS has dlna and upnp I'm just looking for a simple player or app that can search dlna.
I've been looking for an app of this nature for over a year. Still no luck. I would guess that the developers that would be closest to being able to get this going would be one of the video player developers such as Rockplayer or Vplayer alpha. They've already got multi format playback for videos. Now if only they could playback these formats as a stream from dlna/upnp.........
Bumping. With the release of android based tablets dnla / upnp video players are going to be a huge win.
Anyone with a good answer?
Skifta?

I agree, AllShare works great with my Samsung TV and my laptop being the server with all the video files. My laptop has ubuntu with MiniDLNA as the server. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732005 has a link to dlna.apk (which is allshare) weird thing is all the permissions it asks for when installing :/ even wants access to SMS which i thought was weird
for video try http://www.appbrain.com/app/vlc-stream-convert/com.gmail.traveldevel.android.vlc.app with vlc on your pc
if you want only music http://www.appbrain.com/app/twonky-mobile-free/com.pv.twonkyremote works nicely with windows media player library shararing on local network
i've been searching for a good solution for a long time now. I have an ampache server setup now but its cumbersome, none of the ampache apps on android are that great.
Does twonky work over the internet?
no it doesn't but you can smoho get vlc stream and convert working over the internet
The best I have been able to come up with is using UPnP with an app called UPnPlay - in conjunction with VPlayer (which for me is working smoother than Rockplayer).
It's not dlna but it's something.

I have played with lots of different dlna players but by FAR.... the best app is called
iMediaShare - it works perfectly with windows 7/XP (windows media player). You can play music and videos that are on your pc on either your PC (using your phone as a remote control) or play them on your phone streaming them from your PC.
Also there are TV channels like Nasa or Youtube you can use your phone as a high tech tv remote.
Amazing!
P.S My frav before this was Twonk
P.P.S My frav phone browser/streamer is 'Browsix' (again AMAZING!)
P.P.P.S my title is not right sorry, it should say IMediaShare
Hello all,
I have finally made the jump into the honeycomb hideout from my rather comfortable gingerbread house (deck's stable evo build). On GB, the qqplayer was/is the perfect media player for most of my needs, plays mkvs, ogm, subtitles. On the newest update on our 7.0+'s, the player installs fine and can play videos that are placed on the internal storage (the program doesn't see the microsd for whatever reason), but the settings cannot not be accessed to change anything. I thought that the bottom status bar was hiding the options, but even with the bottom bar hidden with Honeybar, no options appear. I installed Rockplayer too, but had the same issue on not being able to access any options. At least Rockplayer sees the microsd and can play from it, although it won't find/play the embedded softsubs, like the qqplayer.
So, what media players are people using that work? Or can anyone think of a workaround?
I've been using MX Player, though I just picked one and it worked for 1080p mkv so I didnt bother looking further
found one!!!
I tried MX, it plays files, but didn't support internal subs. I have found a damn near perfect player, "mvideoplayer" version 2.91. Plays 720p mkv's with internal subs no problem.
Also there is Dice Play which let you play additional format regardless of system codecs
Have you tried Mobo?

So I use showbox constantly and today there was an update and now I can no longer use showbox with all cast it made me download mx player. OK so no problem but there is no casting option for mx player? What kind of a mobile player doesn't have casting options these days? I even bought the premium one hoping that there was a casting option on that. I hope I'm doing something wrong but please I want to be able to cast movies to my roku and my chromecast and now I can't and what's worse I can't even use showbox anymore.
MX Player doesn't yet support casting; I'm not sure why Showbox would select MX Player as the default. If anything, you should ask the developers of Showbox why they would make such a change.
showbox mx player work around
I have a fix it's not perfect but it works. Open showbox and click download for the movie you want once it is downloaded open your file manager then internal storage and locate showbox folder. Once in that folder long press the file you downloaded it will be an mp4 file, select move then move to your video folder on device. After it is complete open allcast and select device then choose gallery and find the video, then you can play the movie on your supported device. I start downloading the next movie I want to watch in showbox in the background while watching the one that I just completed. Its not simple but it works
Nope you're doing nothing wrong. There is in fact no Chromecast support built into MX Player which I for one think is absolutely crazy. The developer of MX Player keeps banging on about transcoding which I for one think is a ridiculous excuse considering how any other apps on the Play Store supports Chromecast casting...
How is it crazy? Casting and playing video are completely different tasks that have nothing in common. You don't expect ftp-server functionality from media player, right? And chromecast is exactly the same thing.

I've had exactly the same problem, but what I came up with was to play using MX player on device but then go to Chromecast app and cast screen, this works, the only problem is that it plays on the device as well as the TV, but it works. If you have lollipop you can cast screen from the settings menu also.
Use The Chromecast App

We are all used to just bypassing the Chromecast App using a myriad of casting applications, with Allcast being the front runner, to push our videos from various sources. Thanks to the developer of a certain app...we were forced to download MX Player which eliminates casting abilities. I say...hahahaha..
JUST GO TO YOUR CHROMECAST APP....MENU...MIRROR SCREEN.
Watch the video through MX Player... But let the Chromecast connect to your device to mirror what you are seeing.bit works flawlessly....just watched Interstellar
done with showbox
I just installed HD cinema APK and it works beautifully with allcast. So for me so long showbox. Easy to switch apps

There is no chromecast support built into mx player. However within mx player, if you click on the three vertical dots (the settings) on the top right of the player, then tools, and then share. You are able to share the current video playing, for example to allcast or localcast which allows you to stream to your chromecast. That was one of my workarounds for the annoying partnership between showbox and mxplayer. One other way was by installing an older version apk of showbox, which is perfectly fine apart from the fact that it requests for you to update the app every time you open the app.
I just think that HD Cinema doesn't have nearly enough content as showbox. Especially the tv shows, where HD Cinema is quite behind. That is just what I think. Please let me know if there's anyone who is using any other apps to watch their movies and tv shows.
I hope I helped

Barely any devices support screen casting, so this is not a viable solution.
and I don't know wtf Jdmccall02 is on about, how does HD cinema help when you can no longer choose which app to stream to.. I'm guessing you haven't updated.
If you go back to an old version of showbox, you get the 'this video is available yet' problem on 90% of the videos.
Going to 1 star mx tards
I don't know if you've seen this yet.. but here's a fix from the developer of Allcast. I tried it and it works.
http://www.reddit.com/r/showbox/comments/2xeiwi/growbox_a_solution_for_not_being_able_to_cast/
1. Uninstall MXPlayer
2. Make sure you install Growbox and run that first.
3. Make sure you install the beta version of Allcast (the one in the link on Reddit).
3. Showbox will now ask you which app you want to stream with.. choose Allcast.

showbox fix
I have tried the same instruction after installing growbox app its all working big thanks to big man who developed growbox and to the man who shared it good work guys.
BIG Thanks
So far I think the most practical option is to install the version available online 3.84.
As yet, no issue found with the older version but with multiple benefits.
older versions

With older versions like 3.84 you get "video unavailable" with ALL new movies and shows.

Uninstall mx player and download and growbox! Works as before!!!
Open in MX and then share
I always used LocalCast directly from ShowBox to cast to my Chromecast so I was a bit miffed when it started only playing in MX Player, but I just read on Reddit that if you let it open in MX Player, whilst it doesn't have a cast option, you can then click the options menu and 'share' then you'll get the option to open the stream in Local Cast or Allcast or whatever you choose to use and it apparently works a treat.
I'll be trying this tonight.
Does anyone know why Showbox did this though?

Hi,
Just got my S7 Edge in the post today
and coming from/abandoning IOS
i feel a little out in the blue
I have been using the Infuse Media app for ios for a long long time
and for me it feels like that app got everything.
what's important for me that i'm looking for is the following
- Play media from NAS/network storage.
- Subtitle support (online and saved subtitles locally).
- Download files/videos from network storage/NAS.
- Chromecast support (maybe AirPlay too)
- Swipe fastforwarding option.
dose anyone know any media app that is identical to the Infuse one i've been using with these functions?
it would be of great help for a new android/samsung user.
Kodi seems to be the most popular alternative for infuse. I haven't used it myself but worth giving it a shot.
Kodi or Plex will give you full media player capability. I just use File Manager HD to browse my NAS, and view thru MX player, which allows substtitles to be downloadsled. When playing thru a NAS, the filename received by MXplayer isnsome weird coded thing, so MX can't automatically locate subtitles, I just enter the name manually and it gets me the subs I need.
You should try the MX Player app. According to me this is the best video player for Android.
I have also migrated from ios recently and kodi is what you are looking for. It's the best on Android.
