NOTE: This is for the Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535
Since I'm a new member I wasn't allowed to post this into the developers forum and before I continue: YES, I have searched valiantly for a fix to my particular problem and I spent the entire day new years and most of the day today trying to get CM10.1 to run on my SCH-I535 but ran into problem after problem. Every time I installed any version of CM10 or higher I ran into multiple problems: mainly being that I wasn't able to attain signal, the keyboard wouldn't load or there would be multiple problems with initial setup including having to restart during install so many times I gave up. In the past two days I have Odined back to stock at least 15+ times trying to get CM to run and now that it finally is I believe this is worth sharing.
Before I continue I should mention that your phone should be properly working so if you're in stock and you can't make phone calls or your IMEI is messed up then none of what I'm about to mention is going to work. After you Odin to stock using Root66.tar (http://www.megashare.com/4384479) then type *2767*3855# to reset to factory defaults everything should be running correctly. If not you may have bricked your phone or you have bigger problems for which I cannot help you and I apologize. There's also a torrent file available of the above stock tar file that downloads much faster here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030.
So I assume, before I start this, that if you're on these boards you know how to properly root, unlock and flash then recover your phone through CWM 6+. If you do not know how to do this, then you will need to before continuing on.
Use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
Now follow Section 1 and pay attention to detail because if you don't you can mess something up and end up having to backtrack which can take valuable time and be amazingly frustrating.
Once these things are done you will need to reboot your phone back out of Recovery mode so you can properly move the necessary zip files onto your internal SD card.
Download CM10 Stable, you can find this here: http://get.cm/?device=d2vzw&type=stable
And download Gapps 4.2.1 here: http://www.teamandroid.com/gapps/ (I used version gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip)
Put these files on your internal SD card and use EZ Recovery to Flash and then Reboot Recovery, I need to mention as well that when I dragged both of these zip files onto my internal SD I had EZ Recovery open while doing so. I don't know if that had anything to do with it but I thought it was worth mentioning. Clear the cache and data/factory reset then install CM10 followed by Gapps that you installed on the SD earlier.
Once you boot up you should have the phone working but the keyboard will constantly flash a message that it can't run, don't worry about that right now. Now download a nightly version of CM10.1 located here:http://get.cm/?device=d2vzw&type=nightly
(I used cm-10.1-20121231-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip)
Now put this on your internal SD card as well and hold the power button for 2 seconds and press restart then select recovery. Now that you're back into the recovery menu CLEAR ONLY CACHE then install the new CM10.1 nightly you just put on your internal SD and then re-install Gapps 4.2.1 from before and reboot. This all worked for me and writing this message is the first thing I wanted to do afterward to make sure no one has to go through the frustration and heartache of constantly failing at installing the ROM they want. I hope this helps at least one person, if you have any questions I will try and answer them to the best of my knowledge but I'm fairly new to all of this.
Or you can just flash CM10.1 first and do this.......
Tap the 4 corners of the screen to bypass activation screen then go into settings> more> mobile networks> and change CDMA Subscription to RUIM/SIM and System Select to Automatic then reboot...

Dirty flashing CM10.1 over CM10 is a much longer way then just clicking a couple buttons Its simply the fact that CM10.1 doesnt have the correct cdma subscription on default boot for our phone.

I have everything working properly now but I wish I would've known this was the matter that would've fixed my problem without all these extra issues. Now my phone app is crashing in the 12-31-12 version of CM10.1. It just suddenly started happening and I can't seem to get around it.

What are the correct settings?
I have been doing this a while... and I was already on the 10.0 stable build. So I flashed the 10.1 nightly... Now Play Store closes immediately after opening. I have tried to uninstall and install from .apk without success. CWRM opens and closes immediately , also uninstalled and reinstalled from .apk without success (You can get to it from booting to it with the phone off ). My Gmail app and account nowhere to be found. My attempt to go back to 10.0 were unsuccessful.
Hi!
I installed the latest SlimBean on my i9000, I came from CM10.0. It all went smooth, but when the OS started, I was quite surprised: all my old apps from CM10.0 were still installed!
I'm not sure whether this is a bad thing or that a complete clean install is more preferable? I think it was kind of handy, but maybe other things remain as well and make the system go slower?
I followed the official steps exactly:
From another JB or ICS Rom to SlimBean
Download device_x.x.zip, slim_gapps.zip.
Enter CWM, wipe data, format system ( in mounts and storage)
Flash Device_x.x.zip***, then MUST flash slim_gapps.zip (other files optional)
*** - If the flash is too quick ( < 5 seconds or so), reflash device before flashing common or other zip files.

Furthermore: do you guys think there is a lot of battery life gain with this SlimBean OS?
Thanks.
You should always wipe data when switching ROMs

I think you forgot to wipe data which is a "dirty install" and sometimes everything will work with no problems and sometimes you can end up with countless little problems. The more closely related the two ROMs are, the more likely a dirty install will be head ache free. Just remember if you do a dirty install and end up with problems, that you shouldn't report them as bugs until you have tried a clean install (wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache).
Changes in battery life will depend a lot on how you use your device, so it is best for you to test it yourself. I noticed that you mentioned that you have a i9000, the best place to get questions answered about that device is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=748
I am quite ashamed of myself, sorry guys. The "problem" was that Google Market automatically downloaded the apps that I had installed on a previous installation because they were "my apps" and somehow Market thought I wanted them in my fresh install :S Thanks...

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else having lag, slowdown and force close issue when using rom with bmm? I have tried Cm, PAC, Aokp, Mokee and many more, but keep having serious lag issue and fc after few hours of usage, and keep having to reboot my phone so that it is usable again.
I've tried putting 2gb for system.img, data .img and cache.img on bmm0.3.2, and 1gb for bmm 0.3.4( for some reason 2gb doest work), but to no avail
Just curious if its only an issue with my phone or everyone else is facing the same thing

That was one of my first setting, it was the recommended size I've read somewhere, i guess the issue is down to my phone.
Fxz back to 4.1.2 jb leak 3, running fine, but damn how I miss the quick setting panel on 4.2.2 rom

Hey,
TO me, they are very quick and good interface providers, First when i started using custom roms main thing bothered me is camera. How many camera apps i try results in no use. BY the time (continues updation by developers ) Now it is fun and pleasure to use custom rom. BUt some times they showing blank image and no ringtone when some call is coming, that is the only reason we use phone for (to call n receive) and so to avoid custom rom for.(weak signal reception of custom roms than my stock rom). some roms even restart as when they want to.
according to me, roms good to bad on my atrix2 are
mokee pac(battery drain) aokp pa.......bad :slim cm dirtyunicorn

Custom ROM on System 1
Can anyone please let me know on, how do I install a custom rom (e.g.Slimbean edision) onto system 1 using BMM.
I am already using JB 4.1. Leak 3 on system1 and Slim Bean 4.3 on system3. I wish to install slimbean to system1.
Do I have to follow the same steps as noted through the rom installation process. If so, will it create a problem to BMM as it is installed on system1.
I have searched the forum for such issue, but couldn't find a proper tag.
Thank you to all developers for creating such a wonderful ROMs and Mods for Atrix 2.

The reason it is suggested that custom ROMs be installed on system 3 and up is because bmm is not the same as most other recoveries. It is installed in the system folder rather than on a separate partition. If you have a problem with whatever is on your first system it could cause you to loose the bmm recovery forcing you to flash an fxz and start over. This is also the reason that a factory reset on first system will wipe ALL other systems. As a general rule you should follow all instructions to have the best possible experience. You can always change the default system in bmm to have it automatically boot the system of your choice.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
hi
hi, i have installed cm 10.2 unofficial JB4.3 on system 3.. but rotation not working.. and other roms are working fine.. i am using main system as JB china leak and miui on my atrix 2
I never have that issue..,except force close issue but maybe its because of my fault i tought...
actually i never use custom rom as my main system,so i have 3rd,4th,5th n 6th system to test a custom rom ...
i try diffrent tweak, mod, script like Fly on Mod,V6 Supercharger,Operation Killjoy etc ... and it works very well ...
So AFAIK, we should never do something stupid on BMM 1st system.., and we will be fine to use BMM recovery and want to playing safe with this device..
That my opinion... Happy multi booting .....

PLease dont flash anything new on System 1 you will lose all the data on the remaining systems and you could end up screwing up everything.....
Just flash it on any other system leave the system 1 alone..........

Use the JBX kernel for the ROM it should solve your rotation problem its a common problem with the new 4.3 ROM s
Just flash the JBX kernel on the system your using the ROM on and wipe cache and davlik ..........(Use 1.xx series on the kernel for 4.3 ROM's)

bmm backup
Is there a way to make a reliable nandroid with bmm or other recovery. I tried using the backup via bmm. When I went to restore, it kept failing, even when trying on a clean system. After about the sixth attempt, it finally recovered, but only reinstalled three apps, and was missing some system apps like the camera.
Thanks for any advicez

Why don't you try Titanium Backup it has a update.zip package option which will restore all your apps and settings if it is only the apps your worried about..........

Thanks. I do use TiBu but have not used the zip option. I think my main concern was having to restore all of my settings, widgets, homesrceens, etc. My guess is that TiBu zip doesn't do that, correct? It just reinstalls the apps, right?

Yes, you are correct. You really don't want to use TiBu to restore system apps and settings. It's really only good for user apps and the zip does do that well. Not to mention that it is not at all relevant to your question about BMM. (Some people don't read the questions properly and give bad advice as a result of inexperience.)
As for your problem, I would say that you should make sure that you're using the fast backup option in BMM and make sure that the partitions you set up are large enough for what you're trying to restore.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
hi,
i have a question regarding BMM and kexec.
are kexec roms of slot 3 to 6 related with rom (said stock) of slot 1??
i had been noticed that if i changed some system setting of slot 1, my kexec roms get more stable.
i used pimp my rom at slot 1, and did not know that it changed my system a lot. i used its restore function but did not work.
thus i reverted it back one by one, i guess, there are some left.
as soon as i reverted back, my kexec roms at slot 3 to 5 run longer than before.

Ya just reinstalls the apps and data like i said ..........if thats all you wanted its a good option
as badwolf said it just might be that your not setting aside enough space for the full backup
Have a look at ur partition size and then go ahead with your earlier steps....

You mean to say you cannot boot into CWM recovery and flash a different ROM? Interesting. I have an HTC, and the steps to rooting it are in a different order... that after unlocking the bootloader, you install CWM, and then optionally root the stock ROM with the SuperUser package (those who don't do the last step are usually flashing a ROM instead of mucking around for another second with the stock OS).
SU shouldn't be needed for custom recovery. But maybe Chameleon does something weird like not give you a custom recovery you can boot into? If that's the case, you could pop the device into download mode and go back to stock with Odin, effectively starting from scratch.
still need help, thank you.
I am starting to believe more than before that the actual problem is that somehow my phone got unrooted. How do I set my phone in download mode and use Odin? I usually wipe the cache, install the rom, install gapps, wipe cache partition, and wipe dalvik cache. I have never flashed a rom before. Or even better what is the best way to root my phone again now that I am using chameleon? I believe if I can do that it will fix my problems and I can install cyanfox (the latest rom I have downloaded). Do I use super one click? That is what I think I used before but now that I am not using stock rom I don't know what to use.

If you are unable to get into ClockWorkMod recovery (hold Vol-Up+Vol-Dn keys while pressing Pwr button) and have it do anything (so your wipe, install, gapps, dalvik - that process would be called flashing). Then I would Odin back to stock.
For this, you would need to get into download mode. IIRC (just sold my Infuse), it is (with the device fully turned off) hold both volume buttons in while inserting the micro usb cable (that is subsequently inserted into your PC). The ODIN program comes with the download packages (hopefully), so extract the whole package, and run that.
Odin should pick up the phone in the first column as "COMX" (e.g. "COM5"). You are good to flash. To the right, there are PHONE and PDA buttons, click on each, and select the corresponding file (that was also in the package) for each (so PHONE will have something like PHONE.tgz.md5). Once both files are loaded, make sure re-partition is UN-checked, and press Start (or Go, or whatever the action word is). This will take a few minutes, but the COMX column should highlight green with "SUCCESS" in the end.
That's all there is to it. The reason why I'm shying away from SuperOneClick is that it was designed for stock gingerbread/froyo, so it has the potential of breaking something. Hope this helps.
EDIT:
Alternatively, you could try pushing su to the device with adb (depends on how you lost root):
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system /system
adb push su /system/xbin/
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
... with this file (extracted).

I am now running cyanfox which runs android 4.4 and Google.process.gapps has stopped keeps popping up. To get rid of it I have to do a factory reset but after a few days it always comes back. I have Googled the problem and tried numerous things to try to fix it but everything only works temporary. What should I do besides get another phone? I can't afford that right now.

I wouldn;t suggest another phoen is things are working well genrally. The problem could lie in the GApps package or the ROM itself. I use the PA Gapps package. If you are having rouble with that one, try from a different date. Just wipe dlavik in between to prevent any nastyness.
If it still persists, try another ROM, like Carbon.
tried installing the new gapps
So far, so good but I won't know for sure for a few days. I'll keep you up to date. Thank you
what version of android is carbon?
Do you have the link for carbon rom for Samsung infuse 4g? And what version of android is it? My phone runs better with those gapps but I am still getting the same problems. I will give it a try but if carbon doesn't work I am definitely going to have to just get another phone. So far I'm. 0-2 on custom roms for this phone. I thought cyanfox would of worked cause I got it off of xda, which really makes me think this phone has some sort of hardware problem but carbon has been around longer. So maybe it will work better.
Carbon is on XDA as well too, and it is based on CM 11 / Android 4.4 Kitkat:

Hope this works for you... :fingers-crossed:

Phone has been operating 100% better. :victory: My cache needs to be cleared frequently and some minor problems with the Facebook back but when isn't there problems with Facebook lol. But as soon as I clean out the cache from my apps, everything is running like new again. I greatly appreciate your help. I can't thank you enough.

Joel,
Carbon was running great for me but then all of a sudden android.process.acore has stopped kept popping up along with all sort of other things stopping then eventually GApps not working again. I have erased my contacts, Erased Media, unchecked all my Syncs, I have tried all sorts of other Gapps packages and even another ROM (cyanogen 11) and they work to begin with then the same problems keep coming back. Is it because I went from Gingerbread right to Kitkat? My phone hasn't worked for about a week now with me trying all different ways to fix it. Do I need to install Ice Cream Sandwich then Jellybean before going to Kitkat or do I just need to try even more GApps? I used to install new ROMs all the time but android has changed so much over the last couple years and when i had to get rid of my old phone and went back to my Infuse 4g the old ROM was just completely outdated and now I can't seem to get this right. The phone itself is still a great phone and I don't understand why I am having these issues. I factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, install new ROM, install GApps, wipe cache again, and wipe dalvik again. I usually don't wipe the cache or the dalvik until after the ROM and GApps install but just lately have been doing the extra wipe just in-case because nothing else is working. But that has failed too. You have been a great help so far and I can't seem to fix this on my own, so again I turn to you for help. Please help me figure this out.

It's possible. I mentioned this before somewhere, but this could be the after-effect of a small /datadata partition, which having a separate partition is standard in a KitKat ROM (at least for this phone). When it fills up, there's no telling what happens.
Both BeanStalk and CM11 have /datadata partition alternatives (the separate partition has been abandoned) built in. You may want to try one of those:

Unfortunately I couldn't find something similar for Carbon.
Thank you!!!!!!
I hate to count my chickens before they're hatched but I truly believe that was the problem. Even Facebook works now. But I thought I had it fixed before then just under a week and it completely messed up and I couldn't even get it to work for a day after that. But it works now. I can't thank you enough. If you ever come across one for Carbon ROM please let me know. This is a good ROM but I liked Carbon better. Again, thank you Joel. :good::good:
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to bother you again Joel but I have a major problem again and I dont even know wht happenned. You have helped me through evrything so far and I couldn't be more thankful. There may be nothing you can do to help me, I don't know. I was using my phone as A Wifi Hotspot when out of know where as soon as i got on facebook on my tablet my phone rebooted on it's own into Clockworkmod recovery. when I reboot it, it goes right back into recovery, it wont read the internal sd card and it wont install any zip off any inserted sd card(it reads them but wont install anything, it always pops up with android guy on his back with a red X and a generic error). it lets me erase cache but won't erase delvik cache or format anything, the screen just flashes and it pops back a screen. I dont think the phone overheated because it wasnt hot to the touch at all. I was only using it as a wifi hotspot for about 30 minutes when it happenned. i had used it as a hotspot many times before with no problems and i dont know how it woud be a virus when i wasnt on any abnormal sites. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If you can get into Download Mode, I would Odin back to stock. Are you AT&T or Rogers? There are a couple recent threads in this forum with download links, although people have been having difficulties with finding the AT&T variety.
Unfortunately, that's all I can recommend. Good luck.
we'll see how this works out
I just checked and it will go into download mode. So I guess I just need to find the AT&T thread of Oden and hopefully that works. I have never done it that way before but I read your previous response much earlier in this thread on how to do it and it sounds pretty simple so hopefully I can do it. If you can find a link to the at&t version before me it would definitely help but I will see what I can find.

Looks like you are all set for the files then.
I just PM'ed everyone who I've recommended those packages in the past. Hopefully I get a bite.
found a thread but need your help
I found a thread with links but with what is written on this thread I am confused. The thread link is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
I'm not sure what to download and if anything needs to be changed after downloading it or if this link is a waste of my time. I was hoping you could help. Thanks.

I would recommend Option D for what you need, but AFAIK, the links on this page are dead.
If you go to the last page though, there is a link for Option C, which would work for your needs. Hope this helps.
I don't know if I missed a step or not, but every app and settings screen now takes about 20-30 seconds to open, booting takes 3-5 minutes. The phone is set up with the same ROM, kernel, apps, etc. as a few weeks ago when it was running super-fast.
I reflashed this version of CM 11 which had worked perfectly for me for about a month (this is a Samsung Galaxy Blaze S 4G):
cm-11-20150119-NIGHTLY-t769.zip
I was downgrading back to that after trying a nightly that made staticky lines all over my phone and made it lock up constantly...
When I reflashed, here's what I did (after backing up with TiBu):
In recovery I wiped to factory
Cleared the cache and Dalvik cache
Formatted /system and /data
Flashed the zip of CM 11 from my external SD
Flashed the zip of GaPPs from the external SD
Rebooted
Rebooted fine, I installed TiBu and Link2SD and started restoring apps/moving to 2nd SD card partition.
The phone is much much slower than stock. I don't know what the difference is... can someone please give me a checklist to try or tell me what I might have done wrong in the re-flashing process?

Hi
There are newer versions of CM11 t769 up already.
You should wipe cache and dalvik after restoring your apps. If it doesn't help, make a clean installation of cm and try if the speed is better. Restoring apps via Titanium Backup while using Link2SD can easily cause errors. May be you have reinstall apps without restore. Also new partitioning of your sd card could help.

How do I choose a version of CM to use?? This is new to me, just rooted for the first time last month. I don't know how to choose... I was using that one I mentioned above for a month with zero issues, then upgraded to a new nightly, but had to downgrade back due to problems and that was where my issue here started...
I did wipe cache and Dalvik after restoring my apps, and I did repartition my SD card as Link2SD wasn't working for me after reflashing (I got a new beta version of Link2SD from the developer that worked perfectly).

The CM11 builds are sorted by date. Newest build CLICK HERE are always on the top. Latest is 02/23. Keep in mind that CM is still under develpoment and may not run stable.

Should I pick the newest build then, and reflash with that? I see there's a stable one for CM 10 for my phone, but it's from 2012...
Should I go with something other than CM? I'm just confused at this point. I like Kitkat and would like to stay with that if feasible (my stock phone was ICS).

I haven't tested the builds as i don't have the phone, its usefull to read the CM11 thread for your phone to check out bugs. You can try newer builds, but theres no guarantee that everything works. All in all you should go for newer versions from time to time

Hmm. My build was stable, I upgraded to a new one, and my phone stopped working. Going back isn't working either.
CM 10.0 is listed as a stable release, I'm wondering if that would be better (i.e. less time spent wiping and reflashing repeatedly) than a new nightly for CM 11?

CM10 = Android 4.1.2
CM10.1 = Android 4.2.2
CM10.2 = Android 4.3.1
CM11 = Android 4.4.4
CM12 = Android 5.0.2
CM10 means you have NO bugs, everything runs stable at the cost that you have a really old rom. If you don't like maintain your phone continuisly its a good choice. I really like trying new stuff, so i flash nearly every new build of used roms / kernels for my phones. So I would stay at CM11. But thats just my personal opinion. By the way you don't need to create backups with Titanium Backup all the time. Just make a backup with your recovery. After installing a new rom, use Titanium Backup with the option "Extract from nandroid backup" to restore your apps. On previous phones I also used tools like Link2SD or Int2Ext, but after some time it always caused problems and never ran 100% stable and fast, so think about if you really need it.

Ack. Well... I like Kitkat a lot. I might get the latest CM11 nightly and new GAPPS and try that first.
I have so little memory, kept running out of space and that's why I use Link2SD. But thanks for the advice on TiBu, I did make a Nandroid backup last night from CWM.

PA GApps are quite good and still up-to-date. Use "PICO" to save some space.

That looks great, thanks very much!
I'll post back here once I get my phone straightened out in the next couple of days to say what happened, in case it helps someone later.
Possibly stupid question - do I need to do anything with the kernel or pit if I'm just installing a new ROM? That was only for rooting, right?

Kernel is always included in the new "rom". So everytime you flash a rom, you automatically flash the kernel with it. PIT is the partition table of the phones partition. As long its not clearly necessary, DON'T ever change it!
Got it, thank you for your help!
So last night I wiped the phone and flashed the latest CM 11 (from yesterday) and the Pico package from PA-GApps. The phone is now super-fast again. I restored a few key apps to try out for the next day or so before restoring the rest, but so far so good, everything is back to normal. Thank you so much for the help.

Sounds great
Quick question - if this thread is still open. The phone's been fine since I flashed CM 11 and Pico GApps, until this morning, when it now does 'Android is Upgrading' every time I boot and every user app crashes as soon as it's opened. I have all auto-syncs and auto-updates disabled, and haven't added any user apps to the phone since Wednesday.
Do I need to flash again, and then have to go through the restore process all over? Or could it be an app causing this? I'm not sure where to look for a source of the problem.
