[Q] Few Questions Regarding Updating - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm finally updating to 5.0 but I'm rather confused since I couldn't find answers to my questions.
My phone is rooted and I'm running a 4.4.2 rom. I'm looking to flash a 5.0 custom rom.
1. I'm coming from a 4.4 rom called purity. Is there any special procedure I have to do before flashing to a 5.0 custom rom? I know some phones need to flash additional files like a radio but I'm not sure if it's the case with the Nexus 5.
2. Do I have to flash a new bootloader? Or will flashing a custom 5.0 rom update the bootloader for me ?
Thanks and much appreciated.

Bump. Any help is appreciated.

1. No, you can use any radio as long as it's one for the Nexus 5.
2. No, but its recommended to update the bootloader anyways.

Hi There,
As far s your question Yes you should go and root your phone and install a custom ROM you can try CyanogenMod Roms for Nexus but thet are Battery Hungry. You can also go for AOSP roms . The alternate name for your device is Crespo.might help you in finding custom roms for your phone.
Inorder to root your phone See my thread in XDA. How to root Nexus S. It aslo tells you how flash a custom recovrey.

Once you have a custom recovery installed, you are good to go. Before Autorec came out, the only way to install a custom recovery was to downgrade to Jellybean, that isn't the case now. So just pick your ROM and happy flashing.

[Q] Stock 4.4.4

Hi all, it's been awhile since I've done any ROM flashing (older phones) so I'm a little rusty now. I'm currently root, unlocked, CWM with stock 4.1.2 (never flashed any custom ROMs on my S3). I'm wanting to get closet to stock 4.4.4 as possible. Can I use the Nexus 5 4.4.4 firmware on my phone? Or will it not work due to it being GSM?
If this won't work, can anyone recommend a ROM of the latest android version that is closest to stock as possible? Thanks.
I wouldn't recommend flashing anything on an s3 that isn't made for s3, unless of course you happen to like buying new phones to replace a brick that you made.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Wrong firmware = BRICK
Before you flash ANYTHING read, read, read,...then read some more.

The current CyanogenMod 11 nightly builds for the "d2lte" device are mostly-stock Android v4.4.4 and very solid on this device.

Gummy also runs great. You can find it in the android development section.

There are plenty of 4.4.4 roms you can flash in the development section...just make sure you update your firmware first. Super easy to do (much easier than returning to stock to take OTA).
Read the OP in this thread carefully and you'll have what you need.

My bootloader is already locked so I have Safestrap for now. I'm currently on 4.4.2 via OTA. I'm just wondering if that affects the use of Odin at all. I'm still new to this and really paranoid with this locked bootloader but i wanna try flashing either superliterom or PaulPizz to the stock slot without having to worry about not being able to flash back to stock.
right now im rooted(towelroot) with unofficial safestrap and supersu installed to system.
Upgrade to stock 4.4
Hi,
I am still in stock 4.1.2 rooted and BL unlocked, however I need to upgrade to latest version (4.4) stock firmware in order to bind my company account. I understand that may never root the phone any more and I can accept it. What's the best approach for me?
If I do not care about root and custom rom, can I just follow the procedure as follow?
1. since I already rooted, I just download safestrap and install it
2. download Stock 4.4 VRUDNE1 rom and install using safestrap.
Can anyone confirm it for me? Or anyone can suggest a better solution for me to upgrade to stock 4.4? Thanks
