My question is how to identify the 2G, 3G and 4G networks discovered on ( selecting network Operator Manually ) in samsung Galaxy S series (S4 in my case) ..
I have used other android set and it was showing all networks with indication of 2G or 3G beside it ..
but when using S4 i can see the names only with no sign and no repeat ..

So you have the 4G model of the S4?
Then you should ask in the Galaxy S 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
I know that there are different mobile signal indicators for the statusbar.
Some show "E" (for Edge), "G" (for GPRS), "H" or "H+" (for HSDPA), "4G" or "LTE" (for LTE), other show "2G", "3G" and "4G" ... this might be carrier specific. But on some custom ROMs, you can change it.
If your phone is rooted, you can also use various Xposed modules to modify those statusbar icons.

You got my question wrong .. I am asking about discovering the operators rather than my operator that are available in my location and what services they are providing ..
Actually it is not specified to my set only ..
Almost all Samsung smart phones have this . So I preferred to put my question here ..

Ok. You want to see additional information when manually selecting your mobile operator.
AFAIK this is ROM related.
So please ask in the q&a forum I linked in my previous answer.
XDA Assist is not for public discussions - only for pointing to best places on xda to get help.

Don't have any clue on my next step and rogers blaming the hardware as they don't have any other resolution
is 4g the same as LTE and maybe I just don't know..is there anything I can do to test the lte antenna? I would like to rule out the hardware but I don't think its the hardware......
any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Open your dialer and enter this code:
Code:
*#*#4636#*#*
That will open a menu from which you can select Phone Information, once in the Phone Information screen, scroll down and you'll see a drop-down menu where you can select network types, try selecting "LTE only" to see if you can connect to an LTE network.
Also, what phone are we talking about here?

Seems that you have changed the frequencies of your mobile network connection.
You may try to change it back to the original frequencies ... if you know the original settings.
If not, you may ask your mobile carrier.
For more detailed help, you have to register on xda and search your device's sepecific forum.
I found some threads about the system menu, you have used to change your mobile network frequencies:
5.1 supporting *#*#4636#*#* by zivoro
[Q] *#*#4636#*#* doesn't work on i9305? How to disable radio? by poggle

No general solution. You have to check for your specific device how to reset the original settings.

[Completed] How to access Samsung J1 (SM-J100H) service mode to change 3g bands

Hi!
I got this phone (SM-J100H) in Ecuador and now, back in Argentina, I found out that it is not able to connect to 3g networks. As far as I know, here in Argentina the 3g bands are 850-1900, while the specs of the phone state that it works for 900-2100 :/. I couldn't find any concrete information on how to change the bands (or if it's even possible for this specific phone), but it seems that there could be some option in the "service mode" menu. Anyway, I'm not being able to access it. Apparently, I should be able to do so by dialing *#0011# and then doing some kind of trick. For example, going "back" and then giving the keyinput "Q" and then "0000". Also found some other guy who said that you should go "back" and then giving keyinput "1". Neither worked for me despite the phone is rooted.
Details:
Android version: 4.4.4 (stock, came with the unlocked phone)
Baseband version: J100HXXU0AOF2
Kernel version: 3.10.17-333157 [email protected] #2
Build number: KTU84P.J100HXXU0AOF2
Does anybody know how to access this menu and/or if it may let me change the 3g bands? Or better, how to change the 3g bands, if it is even possible?
Thanks in advance!
Hello Thank you for using XDA Assist
I am sorry but we do not have a forum specific to that device.
You can try searching through our General Forums here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android
Or maybe asking in the Q&A section here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
You can also always try searching in Google.
Good Luck

You said your rom is not rooted? That probably means the default network settings for your phone is LTE/3G/2G. That option will look for the best signal you have in your current location, then it will choose that data network i.e., EDGE .
It seems like your 4g/LTE signal is weak on your vicinity Perhaps, if you could force LTE (by rooting and installing Advance Signal Status app from Playstore [Device Info >Set Preferred Network Type > LTE only) you can have at least lte reception. Unless, 4g is not available in your area
Try going outside your house, and find open spot and see if your device was able to detect it.
Just let me know if you still have some concerns. Cheers!

Same problem for me. Same galaxy s6 model and same original android version 5.1.1 (g920fxxu3q0kn)
From a couple of days it doesn't connect on lte. But the big problem is that if I choose lte/3g/2g it doesn't connect neither in 3g. I have to force it to 3g only to let the device connect back to internet.
I don't know why but when I came back home, if I switch back on lte/3g/2g, it connect back again on 3g (no lte in my home area)
I'm not sure if it is involved with transit in/out wifi spot or some kind of lte cells. I will try other tests next days
I fear it could be a bad bug
