Hi Guys,
I am updating my SGR for the first time, I had some queries, so if some one would answer, I would be really thankful.
Official ICS update is not for my country, so how should I take backup so that I don't lose my warranty.
Also which version of ICS is better, Nordic one or Austria or anyother country?
Also can you please help me with how to update like which software to use to install ICS, like someone was saying odin and others?
Thanks, Your help will be greatly appreciated

Buddy, A Very Warm Welcome to our Forum. For your queries Here is the answers:
1) Official ICS update is not for my country, so how should I take backup so that I don't lose my warranty.
A: ICS is announced to world by Samsung, so flash this wont loose any warranty but yes, rooting may be.
So, If you would flash Official ICS from Sammobile then no need to worry
2) Also can you please help me with how to update like which software to use to install ICS, like someone was saying odin and others?
A: you can install it using ODIN 3.07V - here is the procedure: Click Here for everything you need
3) Also which version of ICS is better, Nordic one or Austria or anyother country?
Approx, all versions are same except bloatwares providing by them. Few might be extra features then flash the latest one.
In the last, We have Q/A thread it doesn't mean every 2nd thread would be asking HOW to or From Where I can flash ICS.
Use Search option in thread. Coz every question you have asked, already been resolved earlier. There need to search only. Lil bit time taken, but good for our forum.
Thanks Kataria and Nilesh, So if I just update the firmware, I wont be losing any warranty.

Better Take CWM backup before updating to ICS, So if you have problem then you can revert back to GB easily.....

Yes...
mj is right...
there are cases when you downgrade..you tend to stuck on boot loop or on Samsung screen..
so the best way to downgrade is simply restore your cwm backup and then reflash the stock firmware..
Thanks MJ and Vipul
Can someone please provide the link of how to backup using CWN?

Flash CWM first and take backup, Root is not required for it....
Download any version of CWM from the below link and flash it using ODIN.

Hi, What should I add to pda section?
CWM: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?u98qal9rxwwvud0 (or)
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?50bkbbtblok3b02
ODIN ie pda section always takes .tar file.
Thnx!
Thanks, Actually It was not moving forward so I disconnected and now phone is not opening up, Should the tar file be the one of ICS nearly about 650 mb for galaxy R

MAKE SURE YOU FLASH THE CORRECT RECOVERY VERSION CORRESPONDING TO THE 4.1.1 BOOTLOADER.
Sorry to all caps, but so many people have been bricking because they ignored that.
Will it be possible to bring it back to 4.2.1 stock rom?

Yes, I have been between 4.1 and 4.2 and back five times without a problem. You need to use stock rom to downgrade from 4.2 or at least that is my experience.
Downgrading you will loose apps and data. Upgrading you don't loose anything.
hey everyone I have a question about Gnabo Rom v6. I have the 2012 n8013 and I was wondering about the flash process. I am on android version 4.1.2. Do I have to do anything else before i flash Gnabo? I have CWM 6.0.4.6 installed on my tablet and am already rooted. I was about to give up on this device since it doesnt look like we will be receiving an official KitKat update and then i found Gnabo Rom. Looks awesome. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

No problem, just backup your data, because you will have to do a full wipe within CWM. Install strictly the way posted in tbe Gnabo section first posting. After all finished, you can restore apps and data. Do not forget to finally clean dalvik cache!
Wait a few days more for Boefflas Kernel will be public, the you will have perfekt running Gnabo with 4.1.2 Bootloader
Markus.
What's the difference between the 4.1.2 Bootloader and the 4.4.2 Bootlader?

To be able to flash into a Kitkat Stock-based ROM or KatKiss 5.0.1? I need to stick with stock based so my flashed touch firmware will stay.
If someone could link me to the proper tutorials/guides that would be great.

In order to use the new KitKat ROMs, you actually have to upgrade to the latest stock firmware (JB 4.2). The new TWRP and ROMs require the newer bootloader. I'm not that familiar with the touch firmware and how that works, but I'm not sure if that is upgradable too?
First OTA to 4.2, then install any recovery (see Question and answer section) and then flash ROM.

You would need to aquire the stock firmware file which you would then flash via fastboot using the comand prompt.
Watch the videos of by Windroidica on youtube. He has video about to go back to stock rom lollipop latest firmware.
