Not clearing cache on ROM installs

hey guys, getting an error when I try to clear my cache's on my epic in clock work, I don't remember the exact error but its when i try to clear the davlik cache, it gives me an error that the file already exists? Is this normal? I'm still pretty new at this so any information is definitely helpful.

I dunno, When I clean my Davlik, it cleans properly, as do all other cache's on my phone. Perhaps it's a defect?

Yes from what I gathered around the forums, this is normal. The fact that it claims that something cannot be mounted / already exists is because it is looking for a component pertaining to froyo. Since we do not yet have this update, it will continue to display that msg. Clockwork dev claims it still wipes the davik cache successfully. If this information is incorrect, please let me know.
Alright, as long as it's normal, just don't want to screw things up. Makes sense if it's designed for froyo.

Sounds like not a big deal, if it actually lets you clear the cache your fine. If not, you may just want to not clear it Other than that try flashing back to stock with Odin.

I always get the same error but it always works.
Clockwork is not clearing my dalvik.
I get "can't mount /dev/blocl/mm3yxxxxxx; file exsists" or something to that effect. I have to clear it manually sans adb or root explorer. Just out of curosity, for a completely clean wipe...what directories should I be clearing? My factory reset works, but what dir should I clear for dalvic and cache? On the norm, I clear /data/dalvik & /data/data/ but still feel I'm missing something.
You only need to clear /data/dalvik-cache. Only rarely do you need to wipe /data

Getting Error in Clockwork

I am trying to create a backup rom of my system. I was clicked on "Backup Current ROM" and it takes me to the boot screen and then it gives me the following errors:
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verfication failed
Installation aborted.
When I use the volume down/camera/ power button I only get these options:
Im getting blue text
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
I have seen screen shots of people with green text and a lot more options. When I go into rom manager it says I have clockworkmodrecovery 2.5.2.0 installed.
I know I am rooted cause titanium works like a charm in freezing programs I don't like.
Do I need to try re-installing everything? The superuser programs says that rom manager was allowed every time it tried accessing, so I dont think it is a permissions issue.
Did you flash cockwork on your computor cuz the stock kernal isn't compatible with rom manager.

hmm I didn't know that. What would be a good kernel to use? Preferably one that won't cause me any trouble as I am noob.
I eather recomend the froyo leak or ee with pheonix for best battery life

[Q] Adfree java.io.IOException Error on Samsung Admire

Hi, I have a Samsung Admire and have been using Adfree perfectly fine before. However, after upgrading Android from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 to fix the WIFI error, I can't seem to get Adfree to work again.
I get the following error message when trying to install the Hosts:
java.io.IOException: Error running exec(). Command: [su] Working Directory: null Environment: null
How do I get this app to work again?
Uninstall & reinstall. Try to clear cache & dalvik cache in recovery. Worst case scenario, I think, is to wipe everything and install from scratch.

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and wiping cache in recovery before, but to no avail. I didn't try wiping dalvik cache before. After uninstalling, wiping out cache and dalvik cache in recovery, and reinstalling, the error is still there.
I am not sure what you mean by "wipe everything and install from scratch". I would understand how to do that if it was on my PC, but not on my smartphone.
By that I meant, as a last-resort option, to completely wipe everything as if you're gonna flash a new ROM. Format everything through recovery, flash ROM, kernel (if applicable), gapps, whatever else. Then set up your google acct. & restore apps from titanium backup, or reinstall all apps from scratch.
BTW, you shouldn't restore Adfree, it should definitely be installed fresh from Google Play.

As much as I would like to give your method a try, it seems too complicated to do. First of all, I never format my phone before. Even though I know how to format a PC, doing the same thing on the phone seems to be new and unfamiliar to me.
Second of all, it seems to be quite a lot of troubles just to fix that error. I wonder if there is a manual method of removing the ads.
Ok, just to be sure you don't have a problem with su, go into the Superuser app, check for updates, and force an update even if there's no new version (it also makes sure the file has the proper permissions).

Yay! That was the problem. Thank you so much! Wow, AdFree app didn't get rid of most of the ads as it used to, but oh, well...it is better than nothing.

[Q] Why do I keep getting this error when trying to download pandora?

I tried both ART and dalvik, I also tried installing it through adb and I keeps giving me a failure message about an id or something
Can you try clearing data/cache for the Play Store and try installing Pandora again?

Had this issue too. Install root file browser and in your sd folder search for "pandora" and delete the folder. Once that done, it will install correctly
